Once again thinking about Ford and Billford because of the interview

I think one of the more interesting but less obvious things about their relationship is how, despite Ford being weird and having few social skills, he has this this sort of freak charisma where the people who do stick around to become his close friends (Stan, Fiddleford, Dipper) can get just obsessed with trying to keep up with him and win his favor, while Ford himself has an oblivious disregard for the existence of this dynamic that tends to leave himself at the center of all of his relationships.

But with Bill this dynamic is flipped, and then Ford becomes the one scrabbling around trying to please someone who is, to him, just so much better and smarter and worthier. Even when he flips over to hating Bill, it's still so much easier for him to castigate himself for being stupid, shortsighted, outplayed by Bill than it is for him to act lesser than anyone else. With Bill, it's Ford's turn to get sucked into the inexorable pull of reorbiting his life around some oddly charismatic disaster guy.
