Day 7 of Queen Being Allies to countdown Pride month
“this concert is primarily a celebration of and a tribute to our dear friend and colleague—Freddie Mercury. It is also a means of using the tragedy of his death to some good affect in bringing a greater awareness of the fact that AIDS affects all of us: rich, poor, famous, not famous, young, old, black, white, red, yellow, gay and straight. This is an important message, especially for the younger people of the whole world—especially NOW”
-Roger Taylor about the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, 1992
obviously “red and yellow” are outdated words we’re not gonna use anymore 😃

April 20th, 1992 - 'The Freddie Mercury Tribute'
”Hey today it’s for Freddie, it’s for you, it’s to tell everybody around the world that Aids affects us all…that’s what these red ribbons are all about…and cry as much as you like…
- Roger Taylor
“Good evening Wembley and the world! We are here tonight to celebrate the life and work and dreams of one Freddie Mercury! We are gonna give him the biggest send-off in history! ”
- Brian May
”First of all, Brian Roger and myself would like to thank all the artists who are performing here today in London, and they are giving their time and energy to make this tribute to Freddie a reality to happen today.
First of all, the show must go on and we’ll start with an American band three times Grammy Award winners, please welcome Metallica!
- John Deacon

It was so good omg! They actually sounded so real and he did Freddie’s voice rlly well. They weren’t trying to be them, just like them. They sounded better irl than in the videos I took but you could feel it in your soul. It was so loud and I loved it so much and had such a good time.

you ever think about the fact that the Elton John/Axl Rose tribute concert pairing only happened because Roger Taylor was out here trying to single-handedly solve homophobia

Good evening. It seems very unlikely but Freddie and I were very good friends, and many an evening I'd go up there and he'd be practicing his fluent Gaeilge on me and as the evening wore on we'd start talking about indigenous music and things, and eventually we got to writing some songs. I want to do this afternoon a song that we wrote together, and it's particularly apt for this occasion. It's called ‘Too Late God’. -- Bob Geldof, Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, April 1992 --
I played with Bob Geldof at the Freddie Mercury Tribute, at Wembley Stadium. And that was pretty cool. [Interviewer: What did you play, do you remember?] Oh! Uh, a song called 'Too Late God'. Which you wouldn't know, and I can't even remember how it goes now myself… -- Jamie Moses, Interview, April 2015 --
