Happy Easter everyone! It’s the perfect time of year to draw cute art of a character I don’t nearly draw enough but who makes me happy.
Fabergé, despite his own wishes, is a very Easter themed fellow. While he doesn’t like chocolate or being compared to an Easter bunny his artistic skills do make him a talented egg decorator. It’s a skill he finds very therapeutic, and it means he can leave them around as gifts to brings others joy without direct interaction (something he struggles with thanks to his crippling shyness).
The rare exceptions to this are Rabbiteen, with whom he can happily share his love of egg decoration, and of course his best friend Wunderlee. Wunder is mute so expresses joy in unique ways, many of which catch Fabergé off guard XD.
Easter CandyCorn is a thing that exists and I want it 😭

Keeping it real.
Tw for one mention of gr00m1ng!
I'm gonna keep it real with yall, idk if I'm gonna keep posting on here.
This is gonna be me basically rambling but ive been meaning to post this for a while now.
Its been really hard recently to find the motivation to post here. Don't get me wrong, I'm so incredibly grateful for the support I've gotten, 700+ followers is a lot, and I don't think I deserve it but whatever you guys just have bad taste lmfao
I've realized a lot about myself on my time here, more so recently looking back on some things that happened back when I was younger. Realizing someone basically gr00m3d you isn't fucking easy. I won't say who it was, nor will I ever probably, I just know it happened and I know they will see this. You know who you fucking are. I've also just been struggling in general with college and depression, basically imagine if a meat grinder didn't kill you but just left u a little more mangled and in debt lol
Shit like that really kinda made my memories of this app shittier, which fucking sucks because I love interacting with you guys when I can, I've made so many amazing friends on this site, and I'm so grateful for all of them. But I think it's time to let this account retire for a while, I'll definitely still be lurking every now and then tho so don't be jumpscared by random posts
If you like my art and want to support me, please follow me on my twitter and on YouTube where I plan on posting some fun commentary type stuff!
But yeah, I've got big plans going forward, thank you to everyone who's supported me here, every last one of you are my goobers
I'll end this with shamelessly plugging my friends, go follow these talented assholes /pos
@lockandkeyhyena, @elesketchii, @abnormalceiling, @jack-o-phantom, @lithiums-corner and everyone else!
Anyway, I'll see you on the other side
With love, Cris Wunder :]

The AM: May 22, 2023
Tumblr media
Calgary may be in the midst of a smoke-filled Armageddon, but it's also the May long weekend, so, take your solace where you can get it. This week's episode (The AM's ninth anniversary, for what it's worth) alternates between blissful tunes and moments of anxiety, but hopefully lands on the right side of reassuring. Hope you enjoy it.
Some highlights:
Hollie Kenniff’s We All Have Places That We Miss is quite possibly my favourite ambient release of 2023 (which has been a strong year so far). Harrison’s foray into more complex, jazzy arrangements has been a pleasant surprise from an already fascinating producer. Joni Void’s “Tape” is possibly the most pop thing I’ve heard from the Montreal producer. Superior Viaduct’s reissue of Byard Lancaster’s debut was a great introduction to a joyous jazz release. Alejandro Bravo’s take on “(There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me” has the most delightfully playful phrasing. And Mega Bog’s apocalyptic synth-pop is a perfect soundtrack for smoky skies.
(But honestly, it’s all great)

when you study philology (polish, german, scandinavian, english... whatever you pick), you focus mostly on literature and linguistics but also theater, film, art, music... i truly had all sorts of classes, including history and philosophy as well. basically everything important to understand not only literature and language but also culture of the country. and yeah, you also answered your own question about latin haha 😂 but the sentence is actually from the 13th century 😉 not that it's important lol. btw my year in uni was the first one who didn't have to take old church slavonic... truly a blessing because historical grammar was already hard and imo it counted as a foreign language... proto-slavic is nothing like modern polish 🥲
yeah, jewish people lived everywhere. from big towns to small villages. i always try to read and learn as much as i can, even about the most traumatic parts of their history here, and it always makes me feel like there's a big hole here which will never be filled.
oh i do like paris, it's a lovely place, so full of art and history 😍 i hope i can go at least one more time and experience it all again. that reminds me i went to a small shop with turkish pastries with my friend and the owner didn't know the word poland in english but he really wanted to know where we're from (he was super nice) and we tried everything, including explaining that it's where chopin was from but it obviously didn't help 🤣 luckily a younger guy came and explained it to him in turkish lmao. and another time i was standing in a line for something and some old guy approached me and started talking a bit in polish (he heard me talk on the phone), said he worked on ships and lived there for a bit so he still remembered some of the language 😂 so yeah, i met some nice people...just not "native" parisians 😬
we do study some history of music in schools but my passion comes from my mom who loves classical music and opera! i basically grew up on it. of course, i am not an expert or anything, just an enjoyer, but i listen to it a lot, go to many, many concerts and just love it dearly. and yes, film music can be classical music, of course :) as for chopin...i can't pick a fave, it really depends on my mood. my mom's ringtone is the so-called revolutionary etude 😊 if you want you, can try listening to ingolf wunder's chopin (he's my fave classical pianist) and if you like jazz, definitely check out leszek możdżer's impressions on chopin! but please don't feel obligated or anything, these are just my little recs 😳
oh and as for jp2, he actually saved the entire world. just so you know 🙂🙃🙂🙃
that genuinely sounds sooo interesting and fulfilling to study! also can't believe wikipedia lied to me like that about the date 😤 old-church slavonic does not sound fun lol
a huge part of the country's people and history is gone with them... even though they built this country as well and are part. I read last year a fantasy novel titled sinning silver and its main character is jewish and I think the author is polish-lithuanian-american so it's heavily influenced by the history of jewish people in the region
I'm glad you had a good time here (and also that I'm not the only one who didn't know where chopin was from 😂) there are so many nice things to do and see (and eat!!)
it's so cool that your mother shared her passion with you and that now it's also yours, that's a lovely thing to have in common 😊 my parents didn't listen to a lot when I was growing up and for some reason the only type of classical music that I can remember them listening to (although I know they listened to a bit more than just that lol) are some stabat maters because my father had a compilation cd or something like that lol but my grandmother loves it so I did go to an open air violin recital with her once (I don't know if you've heard of the menton music festival but it's her region and the setting of the concert is gorgeous, I love this town) and she once offered me a subscription for a program of operas being broadcasted in cinemas it was really cool! I've came back home this weekend for my birthday so I listened to some ingolf under (I picked the chopin recital album) and it was perfect to listen to as I watched the landscape go by my window on the train, but I do like jazz so I'm looking forward to your other rec!
also another fun info : we had my birthday lunch today (even if it's tomorrow) because it was more practical and so we got to also have a little celebration for my brother's girlfriend's birthday, anyway I love most cakes and her fave is what we call a tropézienne (named after the town, St tropez, where it was created) so that's what my mother made and by researching a recipe she learned that it was created by a polish pastry maker who came to france after ww2 and adapted a recipe from his grandmother to the south of france so after a week of chatting about poland and france I've had a french-polish cake for my birthday 🥰

Short Courage Square fic??? day 7. Just wondering what the Nevermoorians saw of Courage Square.
“Rastaban!” shouted Jeremy, running to the unnamed square that the fight was taking place in. “I know I’m not a smith but I can help you! We all can! Don’t fight on your own!”
“Hear hear!” shouted someone else, and all of the Wundersmiths’ closest friends gathered to march into the square. Some were powerless, others Mundane or Arcane, but none as powerful as the Wundersmiths they wished to help. With a hearty battle cry, they charged into the square, wielding what little weapons they could find.
All they saw was devestation. The square had been ruined, burned in some places, frozen in others, the buildings surrounding it falling even as the reinforcements arrived. Some parts of the square were masked in stange, unnatural shadow. From the ground grew knotted, thorny vines and shards of rock so sharp they could slit your skin with just a touch. There were corpses all around, those of monsters and smiths. The sun was setting on a battle that was already finished.
“Over here!” shouted Arabelle, Owain’s younger sister. At her feet lay Owain Binks. His arms and legs were wrapped in the thorny vines, so he couldn’t escape. His chest had been impaled, likely by the dead monster beside him, a fearsome vulture-like creature with a long sharp beak. It had clearly been burned to death. Others had found a few the remaining smiths, each who had died their own gory deaths. Rastaban himself was frozen in a large block of ice.
It took the group a while to find Ezra, as his monstrous features made his body look quite like his dead creatures, and he had lain on the ground as if dead. Sam, an armadillowun, shook him awake. When Squall opened his eyes, he saw a strange group of people, all in a circle around him, wielding everything from balls of fire to swords to kitchen knives.
“Like what I’ve done?” snarled Ezra. He stumbled to his feet. “Using this much Wunder takes a lot out of someone, but I reckon I can kill you all quite quickly,” He raised his arms and shadows appeared, morphing into terrible creatures. "Attack!” shouted Squall, but his creatures didn’t move. “I said attack!” Squall said again, waving his arms to give the command.
The ground rippled under the Nevermoorians’ feet, as if it was the heartbeat of the very city itself. The cobblestones under the mosters shifted, and started to engulf them as if it was quicksand.
“What’s going on?” asked Ezra. “Who’s doing this?” The Nevermoorians looked at each other, but nobody spoke up. “I’ll kill you all for this!” Ezra waved his arms and spikes of black metal shot from the ground, stopping mere inches before they could have impaled anyone. The spikes slowly started to be pulled underground. “WHAT?” shouted Ezra. “Why isn’t this working?” but he cut off as he saw fog start to surround him. “No no no no!” he shouted, but soon his cried were muffled with a thick white cloud. When the cloud dispersed, he was gone, the only evidence he had ever been there was the destruction around him.
Years later, the Nevermoorians named the square Courage Square, for the people killed by Squall. Squall’s monsters had killed the smiths, but they had also remained after he left, continuing to kill anybody in their way. There were very few left. Over time, people forgot that the Wundersmiths fought against Squall, only remembering the tale of how one Wundersmith killed the brave men and women that had fought for Nevermoor’s freedom. The Wundrous Arts became the Wretched Arts, and the Wundrous Society became the only ones to stand against the creatures that lurked in the dark corners of the Free State.

You may have seen an earlier post with the cover art and description for a new book called “When Will This Be Over?” and this is the first chapter! If you want me to, I will continue to post the chapters here, but the story is available on my wattpad. Let me know what you think of this. I am very excited to keep writing!
When Will This Be Over?
Chapter One
The sound of knocking coming from her bedroom door pulled Morrigan out of her book. She had been in a field, the sound of birdsong filling the air and clouds rolling peacefully through the sky.
As she closed the book she called, “Come in!” to whoever was on the other side of the door. When she heard it click open, she looked up to see bright yellow pants paired with a white dress shirt and turquoise shoes. She looked up at the ginger haired man with a large grin on her face before running over to him and wrapping her arms around his waist. “You’re home!”
Jupiter chuckled and squeezed her tightly.
“Oh, I missed you,” Morrigan said into his chest.
“Each time I’ve gone away from home over the past five years, your reaction has never changed. You’re sixteen now, Mog! Most sixteen-year-olds are begging for their fathers to leave them alone.”
Morrigan pulled back and looked up at his face. His eyes held a glint of mischief. “No one has a dad like mine.”
Jupiter smoothed the crinkles from his pants with a rather smug grin. “I am pretty cool, aren’t I?”
Morrigan lightly punched his arm, earning a look of mock shock from him. “Don’t get cocky, buddy.”
Jupiter laughed before walking over to her bed and sitting at the foot of it. “So, how’s school? Almost done your junior years!”
Morrigan moved to where Jupiter was and sat down next to him. “Yeah, school is great. Just a lot of work.” She rubbed her hands over her face as she remembered what classes still needed assignments to be handed in.
“I didn’t much like the workload either, but it’s all worth it in the end, is it not?” asked Jupiter.
“I guess so.” Was it worth it, though? Morrigan was constantly being harassed over her knack so she wasn’t even sure if completing her Wunsoc training as a Wundersmith was worth the effort. If she was going to graduate with nothing to do then what was the point? However she didn’t let Jupiter know she was feeling this way and plastered a fake smile across her lips.
“Exactly.”
Morrigan rested her head on her patron’s shoulder. “Hey, Jupiter?”
“Yes, Mog?”
Morrigan looked up at him with a small smile. “Did you bring me anything from wherever you were?”
“Of course I did! It’s in my study, but we have to wait for Jack to come home before you can open it.”
She rolled her eyes and groaned. “I’m always waiting for someone to come home before I can do anything! Whether it’s you or Jack, I wait and wait and wait!”
Jupiter stared at her for a moment before sighing. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Morrigan giggled and jumped up before walking out of her room and leaving Jupiter to follow her. The closer she got to the study, the faster she walked. Jupiter was constantly telling her to slow down, complaining his body was not what it used to be, but Morrigan wasn’t listening.
She was always excited to receive the presents that came from Jupiter’s trips. The bottom drawer of her dresser was filled with these gifts. Whether they be clothes, or books, or little souvenirs from gift shops, the drawer held them all.
The items always held some importance to the country Jupiter had travelled to. His suitcase once held a replica of the crown that belonged to the queen of the country. That one isn’t in Morrigan’s drawer. Alternatively, she placed it on the head of her skeleton coat rack.
When Morrigan made it to the study she waited for Jupiter to catch up to her and unlock the door. She tried to stay patient but it was impossible; she was too excited for the new present. Instead, she stood rocking back and forth on her heels.
“Quit that,” said Jupiter as he walked up to her. “That’s what I do. That’s my thing. Get your own thing.”
Morrigan playfully rolled her eyes. “Yeah, yeah, alright. Just hurry up!”
Jupiter grabbed keys from out of his pocket and stuck them into the door. He turned them towards the left and pushed the door open.
Morrigan slipped under his arm and sat at the couch she had claimed as hers. It was placed perfectly in front of the fire place. She would get enough warmth while staying perfectly comfortable. On multiple occasions she had fallen asleep in this couch after reading while Jupiter worked.
“You ready, Mog?” asked Jupiter.
Morrigan looked over her shoulder to find Jupiter with his back toward her. “Yup!”
“Okay. Close your eyes and put your hands out.”
She did just as she was told, and after she heard Jupiter’s footsteps coming nearer to her, she felt a weight in her hands. Morrigan kept her eyes closed and squeezed the gift. The wrapping paper crinkled under her fingers which gave her some idea as to what was inside.
“You can look now.”
When she opened her eyes she was met with a somewhat rectangular-shaped package wrapped in brown wrapping paper that featured some gold glitter accents. Morrigan wondered why on Earth people spent so much money on gift wrap if it was only going to end up in the bin.
She flipped the present over and saw a sticker that read “To: Mog. Lots of love, from: Jupiter.”
Morrigan found a taped edge and tore at it. She continued to rip the paper apart until a pile of fabric fell out. She picked it up and fumbled with it until she could spread it out and see it for what it was: a dress. It was black but shone with gold glitter in the light.
She placed it on the couch and ran up to Jupiter to hug him for a second time that day. “I love it. Thank you!”
Jupiter kissed the top of her head before replying. “I’m glad you like it. That dress is extremely special.”
Morrigan sat back down in the couch and waited to hear the story about this certain present. This was always her favourite bit of Jupiter’s return. It was a couple of minutes alone with him. Whether it be with him and Jack, or just himself, it was something she took pleasure in. She enjoyed learning about where the new item came from and the significance it held.
Jupiter took a seat in the couch next to Morrigan and got comfortable. He then began his story.
“Years and years and years ago, there was a Wundersmith.” He paused and watched as Morrigan’s smile grew wider and she sat up straighter. Presents that had something to do with Wundersmiths made Morrigan feel special, like Jupiter had personalised this gift for her.
“Go on...” urged Morrigan.
“No one knew her name, but everyone knew she had a talent for clothes making. She would use Wunder and work it in fascinating ways to make something new. Her most famous works were made for the young children who lived in poverty around her. She would make sweaters and cosy pants and beanies for the winter, as well as cooler clothing for the summer.”
Morrigan was in awe of this woman. Maybe finishing at Wunsoc would be worth it. Maybe once she left, she would be able to do great things like this lady had. Maybe she would be able to make people happy.
“Nobody knew the reason of her death. No one had heard from her for a while, and it was then announced that she had died. A couple of months later, news broke out that there was one more dress that had not been sold or given out. It was found inside her old home and placed in her country’s Wundrous Arts Museum—“
“Hold on. Wundrous Arts Museum?” Morrigan was shocked. Was there a museum in Nevermoor that was dedicated to Wundersmiths? How did she not know about this?
“Sorry, Mog. There isn’t one in Nevermoor,” said Jupiter solemnly. “There used to be but they took it down after the Courage Square Massacre. People thought if you stepped foot in there you would get attacked by a Wundersmith. I would’ve loved to take you there, but unfortunately I cannot. You can thank your friend Squall for that one.”
Once again, Squall had ruined something for Morrigan.
“Okay, so the dress was put into the Wundrous Arts Museum,” prompted Morrigan.
“Yes. Correct,” nodded Jupiter. “It has stayed there since it’s discovery. Well, until now,” he said gesturing to the dress Morrigan held in her hands.
“This is it?”
“Yes.”
“The dress?”
“The one and only.”
“It’s not a replica?”
“Nope.”
“How did you get it?”
“I know people.”
“Jupiter, thank you so much!”
Morrigan sprung up from her couch and jumped onto his, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Jupiter chuckled, “Mog, you’re gonna have to stop doing that. I’m getting old.”
“Right. Sorry.” Morrigan hastily moved off him and back to the dress. “How do you know it’ll fit?”
“That’s simple. It’s Wunder. You’re a Wundersmith. I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”
Morrigan chuckled before realising something else. “Is Jack’s present as good as mine?”
“Oh goodness no,” laughed Jupiter. “I’m kind of glad you wanted to open them at separate times. I can’t imagine how he would have reacted if he saw the two gifts in comparison.”
“What did you get him?”
“A book.”
“A book?”
“Yeah.”
“Nothing special about it? Just a book?”
“Unfortunately it’s just a book.”
Morrigan’s lips curled at the edges but she tried to hide her smirk.
“What?” It seemed as though Jupiter saw her struggling.
“Nothing.”
“Come on, Mog. You’re doing your weird smile-smirk-face. What is it?”
“It’s just that I sense some favouritism, that’s all.”
Now it was Jupiter’s turn to roll his eyes. “There is no favouritism, Mog. It’s just that there was an opportunity to get you an amazing present, yet I was not able to live up to that standard for Jack. That’s all.”
Morrigan nodded sarcastically. “Sure, keep telling yourself that.”
“Well, it is the truth, so I will.” Jupiter stuck his nose in the air with what he must have thought was authority. “Now, go put that in your room and wash up for dinner. I’m hungry.”
“Yes, Jupiter,” said Morrigan playfully.
“And I don’t want to hear anymore about this favouritism nonsense.”
“Oh, no, definitely not.” Morrigan shook her head as though to prove a point but as she left the room, she called out “I’m your favourite!” before sprinting all the way to Room 85.
While she was running through the halls of the Deucalion, the dress in her hand, Morrigan let the smile take over her face. She was glad she had found happiness after all those years, but there was one question nagging at the back of her mind that she had tried to forget about for the past five years:
When will this be over?

Weekend Reads: Museums
Taking the lead from this week’s publishing event – DR. SEUSS’S HORSE MUSEUM – we’ve reined in “museum” titles for all ages and interests. Here is fiction and nonfiction worthy of exhibiting!
DR. SEUSS’S HORSE MUSEUM by Dr. Seuss; Illustrated by Andrew Joyner
A never-before-published Dr. Seuss book about creating and looking at art! Based on a manuscript and sketches discovered in 2013, this book is like a visit to a museum—with a horse as your guide!
THE MUSEUM OF INNOCENCE by Orhan Pamuk
It is 1975, a perfect spring in Istanbul. Kemal and Sibel, children of two prominent families, are about to become engaged. But when Kemal encounters Füsun, a beautiful shopgirl and a distant relation, he becomes enthralled. And once they violate the code of virginity, a rift begins to open between Kemal and the world of the Westernized Istanbul bourgeoisie. In his pursuit of Füsun over the next eight years, Kemal becomes a compulsive collector of objects that chronicle his lovelorn progress—amassing a museum that is both a map of a society and of his heart. Orhan Pamuk won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2006
MUSEUM: BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART by Danny Danziger
Using more than fifty interviews, award-winning writer Danny Danziger creates a fascinating mosaic of the people behind New York’s magnificent Metropolitan Museum of Art.
THE DEAD FISH MUSEUM by Charles D’Ambrosio
This masterful collection, ten years in the making, establishes Charles D’Ambrosio as a major writer in the tradition of Carver, Denis Johnson, and Richard Yates. FIRST TIME IN PAPERBACK
 POETRY
THE OCTOPUS MUSEUM: POEMS by Brenda Shaughnessy
This collection of bold and scathingly beautiful feminist poems imagines what comes after our current age of environmental destruction, racism, sexism, and divisive politics. Informed by Brenda Shaughnessy’s craft as a poet and her worst fears as a mother, the poems in The Octopus Museum blaze forth from her pen.
MUSEUM OF THE AMERICAS by J. Michael Martinez
Longlisted for the 2018 National Book Award in Poetry
Engaging beautiful and otherworldly Mexican casta paintings, morbid photographic postcards depicting the bodies of dead Mexicans, the strange journey of the wood and cork leg of General Santa Anna, and Martinez’s own family lineage, Museum of the Americas gives accounts of migrant bodies caught beneath, and fashioned under, a racializing aesthetic gaze.
 FOR YOUNGER READERS
THE MUSEUM BOOK by Jan Mark; Illustrated by Richard Holland
Jan Mark’s humorous and conversational insights take readers through museums’ multifaceted history, while Richard Holland’s eye-catching mixed-media illustrations lend their own quirky flair. With vivid examples from all around the world, this wonderful book puts museums — and the many artifacts lovingly stored there — on display in a whole new light.
LOIS LOOKS FOR BOB AT THE MUSEUM by Nosy Crow, Gerry Turley
Little readers will love helping Lois search for her friend Bob behind museum artifacts and encountering their friends along the way in this quirky lift-the-flap book with a retro feel.
SQUIRREL IN THE MUSEUM by Vivian Vande Velde; Illustrated by Steve Björkman

MY MUSEUM by Joanne Liu
A young boy learns that art is all around us in this captivating picture book about a day at the museum. With a wink and a nod to serious museum-goers everywhere, Joanne Liu’s whimsical illustrations remind us that sometimes the best kind of art is the kind you make yourself.
THE GIRL IN THE CASTLE INSIDE THE MUSEUM by Kate Bernheimer; Illustrated by Nicoletta Ceccoli
Once there was a girl who lived in a castle. The castle was inside a museum. When children visited, they’d press against the glass globe in which the castle sat, to glimpse the tiny girl. But when they went home, the girl was lonely. Then one day, she had an idea! What if you hung a picture of yourself inside the castle inside the museum, inside this book? Then you’d able to keep the girl company.
SLEEPOVER AT THE MUSEUM by Karen Lefrak; Illustrated by David Bucs
Imagine spending your birthday at the museum! Join Mason and his friends on their scavenger hunt through all the exhibits that make any natural history museum so special.
THE MUSEUM OF INTANGIBLE THINGS by Wendy Wunder
“A crisp, beautifully crafted story of adventure, love, and the limits of friendship…” –Booklist (Starred Review)
YOU CAN’T TAKE A BALLOON INTO THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM by Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman, Robin Glasser
While she’s in the Metropolitan Museum with her grandmother, a little girl leaves her prized yellow balloon tied to a railing outside. But its string becomes untied, and the balloon embarks on an uproarious journey through New York City. With an ever-increasing cast of wacky urban characters in tow, it soars past a host of landmarks. Eighteen famous paintings and sculptures are reproduced in this delightful, wordless book that explores the magical relationship between art and life.

TikTok’s Refreshingly Anti-Establishment Take On The Met Gala
Tumblr media
NEW YORK, NY – MAY 07: Rihanna at Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 7, 2018 in New York City. (Photo by Jackson Lee/Getty Images)
In the fall of 2019, Stella Wunder and Carol Tchiakpe, both 19, met in a Facebook group for NYU’s incoming freshmen class. Two drama majors with a mutual obsession with the Met Gala, the aspiring actors immediately hit it off. “The beginning of May, every year, we were both the type to be on our phones at our respective high schools, checking to see what everyone was wearing,” Tchiakpe told Refinery29. They became fast friends, and eventually decided to move in together mid-pandemic. When April came around, and Page Six and Vogue announced that the gala would be pushed back from its typical first-Monday-in-May date to September timed to the Costume Institute’s dual exhibitions — “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” — Wunder and Tchiakpe, intrigued by the theme, came up with a way to get in on the action.
“When we heard that the Met Gala was officially being scheduled, we were both like, Who’s going to be there? What are they doing to wear? Who’s going to flop?” said Tchiakpe. They began jotting down their thoughts on a notepad before quickly realising just how many opinions they both had. So, they took to their apartment wall, colour-coordinating Post-its in three different sections — American commentary, people who pay homage to an American designer, and those who missed the mark — with predictions for every supposed attendee’s outfit scribbled on them in permanent marker. Then, they documented it all on TikTok.

On 5th May, Wunder posted a video to her TikTok account, @lungtimes, titled “Met Gala predictions part 1”. In it, the two roommates narrowed down their laundry list of questions to three big ones: who will be there, what they will wear, and how it will be received. Overnight, the video went viral.
“I thought maybe a couple thousand people would watch and I’d be like, ‘Oh my god, that’s so cool,’” says Tchiakpe. “And then suddenly the next morning, Stella was like, ‘It’s fully hit like a million views.’ And I was like, ‘Come again?’”
Four months later, that number has more than doubled, with two million views and more than 565,000 likes. In the wake of their viral video, Tchiakpe and Wunder posted the remaining three parts of their initial prediction, made the wall into a shareable spreadsheet, and even considered a podcast. Wunder posts regular one-off predictions about particularly buzzy celebrities like Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Zendaya, the least successful of which still got more than 20,000 views. She’s often asked questions only Anna Wintour, the chairwoman of the Gala, could possibly answer — from info about the guest list to what said guests will be wearing — but her 51,500 followers don’t know that. To them, Wunder is an expert — one that’s using her personal opinions and knowledge of the gala, accumulated through years of fandom, to introduce millions to the “Oscars of Fashion”.
@lungtimes
WHAT DO I WEAR AND ALSO SHOULD WE MAKE THIS A THING #nyc #metgalawall #metgala #fashion #nyfw #party #nycparty #metgala2021 #style #outfit
♬ Coffee Shop – Late Night Luke
Wunder and Tchiakpe are planning a watch party for the night, inviting their followers to join IRL as well as digitally, and creating a virtual Met Gala experience that anyone can take part in. And no, they’re not charging $30,000 per seat (£21,640) for theirs.
But TikTok, a share-everything type of platform, couldn’t be more different from the uber-exclusive nature of the Met Gala. At the annual fashion benefit, phones are not allowed (though some enterprising guests have snuck them in and taken now-legendary photos that show more rule-breaking). Hell, until this year, Vogue had never live streamed the event in an effort to keep every aspect of the evening under lock and key.
Still, social media has long been a place of discourse for all things pertaining to the Costume Institute. In 2015, despite the Institute putting in place a social media ban for those inside of the event, the hashtag #MetGala garnered over 1.5 million tweets on Twitter over the course of 4th May, the day of that year’s China: Through the Looking Glass gala, a controversial theme about Orientalism and cultural appropriation that engendered some heated online discourse. There, people shared their opinions on celebrities’ interpretations of the theme in real time, in some ways eclipsing the event itself. The Met Gala also has its own peanut gallery on Instagram, as red carpet images are often shared by both fashion publications and stylists just minutes after a look is debuted, which are commented on and regrammed. The most popular Met moments among Instagram’s one billion users are often ones for the record books. See: Beyoncé in Givenchy in 2016, Ariana Grande in custom Vera Wang in 2018, and Cardi B in Thom Browne in 2019. Twitter took back the Met Gala from Instagramin 2020, when High Fashion Twitter Met Gala, a virtual red carpet held on the platform, exploded on the scene during the pandemic.
“TikTok is going to change the world of media by granting access and reach to [talent] that wouldn’t normally have gotten it.”
Stella Wunder
But TikTok’s algorithm and content style are different from any other social media platform we’ve seen before. The Met Gala’s hush-hush and rule-bound structure could use some of TikTok’s levity, and its ability to make anyone an overnight sensation could prove to supercharge the event’s fame-making and trend-setting powers.
“TikTok is going to change the world of media by granting access and reach to [talent] that wouldn’t normally have gotten it,” Wunder says. For example, if the Met Gala was able to make or break a young designer before it was introduced to TikTok’s 100 million-plus monthly active users in the U.S., think about what it can do now that it has an all-powerful algorithm behind it, which can turn any small business into a crown jewel with just one video. The same goes for wardrobe and hair stylists, makeup artists, and even first-time attendees. If the two million people who watched Wunder and Tchiakpe’s Met Gala predictions were to rally behind a certain look from the night, it could reach viral Rihanna-at-Heavenly-Bodies status many times over, giving all those who played a part in the look on a digital pedestal.
Since we already know that Gen Z enjoys an underdog mission, especially when it comes to fashion, it’s likely that Met Gala fans on TikTok will root for looks that aren’t heavily publicised elsewhere, giving opportunities to those among the new guard at the event. And for the first time, TikTokers will have a platform to amplify their opinions in a way that could potentially be even more popular than the PR-filtered messages put out by the fashion establishment. Not only does this create an entirely new kind of Met Gala experience, it also democratises the event, which is famously elitist and exclusive.
No, the 73-year-old benefit isn’t going to be overrun by TikTokers, nor will iPhones suddenly be allowed to vlog every detail of what happens inside. But the Met Gala in the age of TikTok is different, if only because it’s opened itself up to millions of new, young, and opinionated people, all of whom can get in on the action simply by posting their thoughts regarding the star-studded event, speaking about it in the same off-the-cuff way so many do on TikTok, in one 15-second video. It worked for two 19-year-old drama students who’ve been fangirling over the Met Gala since high school. What’s to say it won’t for you, too? (Just don’t forget to hashtag #MetGala).
Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?

A Year in  the Life”, “Fuller House”, “Girl meets World”, “24: Live another Day”, “Heroes: Reborn”, “90210″, “Melrose Place”, “Dallas”).

Day Trip to South Wexford
I had learned that the pharmacist friend knew her way around Co. Wexford, so I asked her if she would like to take a day trip to see an abbey or something. Also, she had given me a book called “Medieval Wexford”, which had given me some ideas. I had to choose between Ferns and Dunbrody, but from the book, it looked like there was more to see at Dunbrody Abbey. So we went there. I had taken the day off in the hostel; I only had to be back in the afternoon to work in the Hole in the Wall. So we started quite early. It so happened that we arrived at Dunbrody Abbey an hour early, because they only opened at 11, so she suggested we go to Hook Head peninsula and lighthouse. I hadn’t been there before, so of course I agreed. It is apparently the oldest lighthouse still in use. We didn’t climb it, but instead had tea and scones and I took some pictures. She had lent me her camera, because the ones my phone takes are no good. So I had the camera strap around my neck and went to walk down the cliffs to take that nice shot there and said to her: “Don’t worry, I won’t jump.” Her reply: “Not with my camera, you won’t.” I was perplexed, but very amused. I didn’t anticipate her being so funny. Very much my type of humour. Anyway, on the way back to the abbey, she decided to take a detour to Slade to show me the little harbour and the castle. I only took three shots of the castle, but there was a car parked really unfavourably. Finally, we went to Dunbrody again and got the key for the abbey. It struck me how similar it is to Jerpoint Abbey. It is no wonder, because they are both Cistercian abbeys, but still. It was a pity that one couldn’t really see the River Suir from the abbey, because apparently, the monks had a tidal mill there. Dunbrody was founded my the omnipresent Willliam Marshall. I decided to sit on the fence for a while to sketch the abbey and she decided to explore the cemetery and do some bird watching. After that, we had a very nice home-made vegetable soup.
A very nice day in good company.

I learned to embroider the summer before starting college; my friends and I decided we wanted to make cute embroidered shirts so we just went for it and the rest is history. I fell in love with embroidery, the way it’s so versatile. I originally was only embroidering items that could be used such as t-shirts or pockets, but then I realized I could make art with the miles of string I had.
At the time of this epiphany I was reading a book, The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder (it’s a fabulous book, it really gets you thinking). The book is about a girl named Hannah and her best friend Zoe, who also has a younger brother with autism. Being the great older sister Zoe is, she makes him museum exhibits in their basement of intangible things to help him better understand, like emotions such as fear and whatnot. Zoe decides she wants to get out of town which is exactly what they do. Little does Hannah know Zoe has some plans to teach Hannah some intangible things she’s been missing in life. The first intangible thing Hannah is taught is insouciance. According to dictionary.com, insouciant means free from concerns, worry, or anxiety; carefree. That has been my favorite word ever since, because I think I need to be a little more insouciant in my life. This was my inspiration for the insouciant piece you see here; I wanted an everyday reminder to be a little more insouciant.
In making the insouciant piece I came to the conclusion that I love keeping the embroidery hoop on as a frame; it just works in my eyes. Another piece I made was inspired by The Gay Beards, specifically a picture they featured on their Instagram. As you may know, The Gay Beards are known for decorating their beards with all sorts of different things. In this particular case they had put flowers in their beards; I fell in love with the image and overall look of it. This inspired me to create an embroidery piece. This time it was all about experimenting and texture. I wanted to see how watercolors would work on fabric in creating the face of the bearded man. Although they bled a lot more than on paper, it worked pretty well. Then came the task of actually creating the beard; I wanted it to be textured similar to a beard and for the flowers to really pop.  It took so much longer than I thought it would but that could just be the impatient millennial within me.
I recently touched up a piece I did earlier this year. When I originally made it I was very pleased with it and felt as though it was done for good. I gave it a title and everything: Music Never Dies; it’s of a skeleton couple lying on the floor listening to a pink vinyl record (in my eyes the record is My Chemical Romance’s Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge album that came exclusively in pink vinyl). When I came home for summer break and saw it again I felt as though it was missing something. I realized the white bones of the skeletons were blending with the cream colored patterned background too much; they weren’t distinctive enough for my liking. Therefore I took a chance once again and undid the backing to allow me to embroider a thin black outline of the skeletons. I was nervous because I had never done any outlining of any sorts with embroidery and didn’t want to mess up the piece since I liked it otherwise. I’m also one of those people where if I finish a work and consider it complete I don’t like to change things since it’s how I once wanted it, or maybe I have a fear of messing things up, I’m not sure which it is but anyways, this piece may have swayed that mentality of mine since I’m very happy with the way it turned out in the end.
Just like with any new medium for me, embroidery is all about experimenting and learning as I go. It’s like a challenge and a hobby wrapped up together; on one hand I have no idea what I’m doing but on the other hand I learn as I go and enjoy it. Not to mention I end up with awesome things I can hang on the wall or t-shirts that say exactly what I want them to; simple things I can cherish since they’re handmade therefore meaningful to me. On an ending side note, I’ve found them to be awesome presents for friends as well.
Also, I’m finishing up an Etsy shop that will feature embroidery and other art, more to come on that soon!
Francesca, art therapy, shares her developing love of needles and thread in "The Old-Fashioned Art of Embroidery" I learned to embroider the summer before starting college; my friends and I decided we wanted to make cute embroidered shirts so we just went for it and the rest is history.
