If you ordered fast food with the Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens), it would definitely steal your fries. This species is known for its kleptoparasitic behavior, meaning it specializes in snatching food from other sea birds—harassing them until they let go of their catches. But this winged pirate won’t stop there. The Frigatebird will even pester competitors who’ve recently eaten, forcing them to vomit up their meals! Then, it will chow down on its regurgitated prize. Males’ prominent red gular sacs are used to attract a mate and can puff up like balloons. This bird can generally be found soaring along the coasts of southern North America, Central America, and South America.

I caught this magnificent frigatebird chick in the middle of an absolutely enormous yawn but he somehow looks even more ridiculous with his mouth closed

Another Spondylus shell ornament, Culture Jama-Coaque, Ecuadorian North Coast 500 BCE - 1530 CE, w3.4 x h6.9 cm. Museo Casa del Alabado / INPC. Listed as a "zoomorphic ornament," but the first thing it made me think of was a male Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens), a native species…

The reason it hurt Lizzie so much to see Jay that first time on Joaldo wasn't just because Jay reminded her so much of Ava.
It was because because Jay was, of all things, a pirate.
It was because Jay was living proof that Lizzie had failed. That there was a way Ava and her could have been together, succeeded together, on the same side.
If she had just tried harder, finally convinced Ava to leave the navy for good, they could have been together. Ava would still be alive.
To Lizzie, Jay is an afterimage, a reflection of what Ava could have been.
A reminder forever following her, close to the one person from Lizzie's past she could never bring herself to abandon, forcing her way into Lizzie's life, forever a reminder to Lizzie that she failed, she failed, she failed-
Jay is Ava's ghost, and Lizzie is being haunted

Listen
I know that jays all upset over the navy/pirate war being fought in avas honour because “that’s not what Ava would have wanted” but can we plEASE step back for a moment and think about how deeply Lizzie must have felt for Ava in order to sTART A WORLD FUCKING WAR OVER HER DEATH?????
LIKE IDK ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT IF I DIED AND MY LOVE STARTED A WORLD FUCKING WAR TO AVENGE ME. ID SWOON A LITTLE. CAUSE LIKE YEAH THATS VIOLENCE AND DEATH BUT ITS ALSO KINDA ROMANTIC???
If my lover ain’t causing anarchy in the aftermath of my death, I dONT WANT HER.
