MWW Artwork of the Day (2/23/23) Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471-1528) Self-portrait with Fur-trimmed Robe (1498) Oil on limewood, 67.1 x 48.9 cm. Alte Pinakothek, Munich
The last of Dürer's three magnificent self-portraits was painted early in 1500, before his 29th birthday on 21 May. The picture is proudly inscribed: `Thus I, Albrecht Dürer from Nuremburg, painted myself with indelible colors at the age of 28 years.' It is a sombre image, painted primarily in browns, set against a plain dark background. The face is striking for its resemblance to the head of Christ. In late medieval art, Jesus was traditionally presented in this manner, looking straight ahead in a symmetrical pose. Christ's brown hair in these images is parted towards the middle and falls over the shoulders. For the first and last time in Western art history, an artist was to portray himself in a Christ-like scheme.

This is me before the scrunch sock obsession started. Sans scrunch socks is definitely kinder to my shorter figure, but oh well Ima wear them anyway

SELF-PORTRAIT WITH FUR-TRIMMED ROBE (1500) by ALBRECHT DÜRER
This painting of DÜRER as CHRIST may be seen as a bold and provocative statement, but more likely, it is an expression of belief along with a faith in DÜRER’s ability as a creator. It portrays DÜRER as the artist, GOD’s gift to him.
The artist’s face is directly in front of the viewer’s face. The artist’s right hand is raised to his chest with his two fingers spread wide like a blessing. The artist has curly hair falling down to his shoulders. The artist has his monogram prominently displayed on the right side of his body.
The convention for portraits during the RENAISSANCE era was to have the sitter’s face in three-quarters view, mostly in a realistic setting. DÜRER’s choice of a frontal view with a dark, undifferentiated background reminds us of medieval religious paintings, particularly the devotional paintings of CHRIST, the son of GOD.
With his blessed hands, his long brown hair (although DÜRER was a dark-blond), and his idealized face, the artist in this painting clearly portrays himself as JESUS. And since the painting was made in the year of the apocalyptic, it would be a powerful representation of DÜRER’s self-consciousness as a Christian.

We are getting close to Halloween so it’s time to show this year’s costume… which is SUBLIME! ✨ Slugger is feeling Kenough in his Barbie Movie Mojo Dojo Casa House Ken faux fur robe! I made some minor alterations to the fabulous @shadowonthemoonart ‘s boy pony shirt pattern, and a necklace and bandana! His hair was already trimmed short when I got him, so it was easy to shape into some bangs! The backdrop is from my childhood Barbie house in the 90s! 👠

The Hezhe people 赫哲族 (also known as Nanai 那乃) are one of the smallest recognized minority groups in China composed of around five thousand members. Most live in the Amur Basin, more specifically, around the Heilong 黑龙, Songhua 松花, and Wusuli 乌苏里 rivers. Their wet environment and diet, composed of almost exclusively fish, led them to develop impermeable clothing made out of fish skin. Since they are part of the Tungusic family, their clothing bears resemblance to that of other Tungusic people, including the Jurchen and Manchu.
They were nearly wiped out during the Imperial Japanese invasion of China but, slowly, their numbers have begun to recover. Due to mixing with other ethnic groups who introduced the Hezhen to cloth, the tradition of fish skin clothing is endangered but there are attempts of preserving this heritage.

Hezhen fish skin jacket and pants, Hielongiang, China, mid 20th century. In the latter part of the 20th century only one or two families could still produce clothing like this made of joined pieces of fish skin, which makes even the later pieces extremely rare [image source].

Although Hezhen clothing is characterized by its practicality and ease of movement, it does not mean it’s devoid of complexity. Below are two examples of ornate female Hezhen fishskin robes. Although they may look like leather or cloth at first sight, they’re fully made of different fish skins stitched together. It shows an impressive technical command of the medium.

The Nivkh people of China and Russia also make clothing out of fish skin. Like the Hezhen, they also live in the Amur Basin but they are more concentrated on and nearby to Sakhalin Island in East Siberia.

ralsapril 22: star
My design of Outerrune Ralsei. Ralsei is leaning forward with his back slightly turned to the viewer. His head is turned towards the viewer and his hands are behind his back. His fur is very dark blue with lots of tiny stars, like a night sky. His lineart and eyes are white. There are clouds orbiting the ends of his ears. He has a golden halo with a shiny star on it, gold-rimmed  glasses with moon and star corners, a dark blue scarf with a gold rim, a gold-trimmed blue sleeveless robe, and a dark blue and gold diagonally striped long-sleeved shirt underneath the sleeveless robe. He is standing on a gold star that radiates light under him. His scarf acts like an arm as he is holding a bright star with it.

hello!! from the love language prompts, maybe 24 or 26 for the library boys?? 👀👀 :)
HI! Thank you for sending the first ask for the food prompts I posted a while ago! I'm gonna post those that I've finished over the course of the day. 24 would be weirdly shaped food and 26 would be breakfast in bed for my lovely library boys. here you go! (betaed by the amazing @ml-nolan)
Murphy wakes to the sound of softly clinking dishware, sleep still heavy in his limbs and eyelids, the smell of Hob's warm body not quite gone but faint. He stretches with a groan, unwilling to open his eyes just yet.
When he inevitably does, blinking, he is greeted by the sight of Hob, dressed in his pants and the robe Murphy has already labelled Hob's in his head, the lace-trimmed satin gown that showcases Hob's soft, furred body with a different kind of softness, sleek and shiny like water. It suits him very well.
He's carrying two things; a fond grin and a tray with a big plate and two mugs. The smell of eggs and toast and coffee hits Murphy all at once, and his stomach growls. Hob chuckles.
“Have you finished stretching? Wouldn't want to risk this five star breakfast landing on the floor, you know.” The humorous slant of Hob's mouth turns a little self-deprecating, and Murphy wonders why. He's usually an excellent cook.
Murphy sits up and nods, eager. “Yes. Thank you for making breakfast.”
When Hob sits down at the edge of the bed, setting the tray down between them, he can see exactly why.
After a small, careful silence, Murphy asks, “What… is that?” It looks like some weird sort of French toast, but there's too much egg, the edges of it spilled over and folded onto the toast, while the bread is oddly shaped, almost mangled. There's also no sugar. Or cinnamon.
Hob clears his throat. “Well… I wanted to do a thing I've seen on the Internet. You know, you take a cookie cutter and then put a fried egg into a fun shaped hole in the toast?” He rubs his earlobe and then scratches through his hair, dishevelling his already sleep-tousled braid further. “Well, turns out it's not as easy as it looks.”
Murphy keeps quiet once more, and then, finally says, “I am not going to lie and say it looks wonderful, but I am sure it will taste good.”
Hob snorts with laughter and then pokes his tongue out at him. “How gracious of you, my lord. Will you require a fork or is His Grace going to use his fingers?”
Raising one eyebrow at him, Murphy picks up a stray piece of egg with two fingers and eats it. Still chewing, he tells Hob, “You can rest easy, I am afraid I left my manners at the library yesterday.”
“Well then, let’s hope nobody picks them up accidentally,” Hob deadpans with a twinkle in his eyes. “They’re terrible, anyways.”
