Rewatching the same romance animes I used to watch when I was like 9 almost every year has become a weird tradition of mine.

AND I EAT THAT SHIT UP EVERY TIMEEE.

Obviously, I haven't included all of them (mainly just ones I'm decently familiar with, enough to know that the anime adaptations are completely). Some I also made executive decisions to exclude. For example, I left out the Legend of Basara and Please Save My Earth because they're less familiar to most people on here. And D.N. Angel and My Love Story!! have male MCs, so I'm not sure if they count as shoujo. And Shugo Chara technically isn't fully adapting since they made up the Party! arc after the Easter Arc (manga ending is much better in my opinion lol...)

However, I hope I got most of the popular ones! Or at least that ones that still make me sad aren't finished lol

this is a boy who never says how he feels. he just pinches and hugs instead. (mostly featuring ruka and mikan)

exhibit A: indirect touches that are teasing but still sincere and comforting (ie pulling/tugging/bonking with an object)

exhibit B: this noogie/bonking thing he does whenever he wants to reassure someone

exhibit C: holding hands (there's more instances of this obviously but i dont want this post to be ten feet long)

Gakuen Alice/ Alice Academy needs a reboot like crazy! You do not understand how much it needs a reboot that covers the entirety of the manga! The 2004 anime didn't even scratch the tip of the iceberg that is the plot of Gakuen Alice! Anime studios make it happen!!!

No because look at this from the synopsis

"Gakuen Alice is a heartwarming comedy"

Hartwarming comedy?! Gakuen Alice?!!? THE DEATHS?!?!?!?!?!

I came out mentally scared. This manga left me on such a deep emotional anguish and was a traumatic experience on the same level as Fruits Basket and they have the gall to put "Fun for all ages" sticker on the anime synopsis

rereading gakuen alice is fucking insane. I'm like 80% sure that it's in THIS MOMENT, being chased by adults with guns who want to sell you on the black market, that Natsume falls in love with Mikan. She's like "stop being so accepting of death! we have to go home together!" sparking hope in him and he just goes "if anything happens to Mikan I'm killing everyone and myself" LITERALLY. bastard saw her get pushed down and he goes into rage mode, using his fire magic and setting off the explosives he was threatening to set off earlier in his suicidal game plan.

he's now devoted to her.

AND THEN, LIKE, WHAT, FIVE DAYS LATER, HE'S EXPERIENCED:

jealousy bc Mikan climbed Tsubasa like a tree to seek comfort (fr Natsume's tormenting). Well, from Tsubasa and Mikan's relationship in general.

getting the guy who can read minds to pick out Tsubasa's genie lamp so he can better release his irritation fr aforementioned jealousy, but the mind reading guy is like "ah, all I'm seeing in his mind is Mikan, he must want her genie lamp," and ending up getting her as his lackey instead

fear bc his abusive teacher threatened Mikan's life so that Natsume would continue playing nice

despair bc he had to stop getting close to Mikan else his shitty teacher would do smth awful to her otherwise

after all this he ends up saying this to her!!

one of the first things Natsume does to Mikan is steal her underwear.

he ends up being literally ride or die for her. he will die for her. he does die for her.

god. this was the shit i was reading when i was 12. no wonder I'm like this.
