Week #35: Blood For The Blood God!!!
My first ever Khorne model painted. Now, I know what some of you may be thinking, but no, I am not starting a Khorne army. This is actually something I'm doing for a friend. I've been taking my time and slowly chipping away at a World Eaters combat patrol. He's a good dude and if it means I get to learn how to paint red then gosh darn it why not.
The recipe for this Khorne berzerker I do not think I will be using across the combat patrol. Especially the trim, it was a lot of back and forth with different colors and styles and the lick to try and figure out exactly why I wanted. It cam out a really beautiful weathered looking gold, but I could not tell you how I did it. I have a new recipe I'll be using with the rest of the Khorne berzerker's trim that's a lot more manageable. First time I'm using blood effects, super fun to dirty up a model and add a little story to it. Also, my first time really using texture paints in a larger way. I think the way I managed to do the base was super simple and easy, but it does take a little more time then you would normally want to take on a base. I enjoyed the process regardless and think it came out really nice.
I also think I really figured out how to do red here. I actually decided to do 10 Berzerks with helmets and 10 Berzerkers without because I want to challenge myself a bit and do more skin. These guys don't have a lot of skin on them, but the Cultists in he combat patrol do. So I want to make sure I have SOME practice before I go all in on them. I don't expect these to come out absolutely incredible looking, but I am trying to challenge myself while painting them.
It's been a fun experience so far.

so I was looking through my camera roll when I encountered this
[ID: Screenshot of one of Disco Elysium's dialogues. It reads: "I like theory more than story. Outward movement, not vortices." End ID.]
it took me about 5 mins of squeezing my brain to finally realise what the fuck this meant or why I had saved it in the first place, finally coming to an answer upon reading the name of the character who said it, Bird's nest Roy. This is what he says after you ask him about his backstory and some other things.
The reason I had saved it was because when I read it it seemed so obvious to me. Almost, if not, poetic. Outward movement, not vortices. This man just told me how a nuclear waste spill doomed this whole town, how him and other volunteers spent like time out of their lives trying to clean whatever they could, knowing it would be worthless. Why would anyone ever risk their life like that? Knowing that wouldn't change anything? But just like when I read the quote, the answer to this question also seems obvious. They weren't gonna get anything from staying still either. What other choice did they have? Watch how the land where families live turns to an inhospitable hell? Shit okay I know one man cleaning it isn't going to solve it, nor two, three, forty men but shit it's something it's movement. better than overthinking it inside your brain, better than creating countless spirals, better than vortices.
And then he just goes and tells this to the men -the cops- who've come to his small business, after going away from his home, the one he hopelessly tried to clean. Movement. And he receives them wearing sunglasses while staring at this blinding ray of artificial light. Movement. And he tells them the story and how he's travelled to places and the act of telling it is also movement because, hell, it's better than keeping it to yourself. You know it happened, you know it was a disaster and you know you screwed yourself over trying to clean something you didn't spill in the first place so the only thing you have left is to acknowledge it. And to communicate it. It doesn't solve it, it never will, it's already over so don't let it stay inside you making pointless vortices, just- Outward movement.
Maybe I'm reading to much into it, maybe it's just some dude addicted to medically prescribed speed trying to forget trauma but you never really forget these things, you just move them aside and they move you. Outwards.

Sometimes the best way to break a lee is with soft tickles. Sure, I can be fun to scrub a hair brush on their feet, or drill your thumbs into their underarms as they fall apart. But there is nothing more entertaining than just drawing shapes into their cute belly for minutes on end, and watching as they slowly go from stifled giggles to desperate hysterics, laughing too hard to form a sentence, let alone beg for mercy
