Gamzee regression drawing. i think Karkat would be his caregiver and i think they would watch shitty romcoms and Gamzee would probably throw a fit about it.

I think Karkat would be really gentle with him though, and i think for the most part Gamzee is well behaved. hes really clingy and gets jealous easily if others are talking to Karkat or hes giving them more attention than hes giving to Gam.

Gamzee loves to color and draw while regressed, and his sippy cups always filled with cotton candy faygo. Karkat makes sure of it. He also loves tag and silly games like hide and seek. although he usually falls asleep while Karkat looks for him. hes a sleepy guy after all.

Or: let's make wild, uninformed guesses about the troll Ancestors, based solely on the lives of their descendants!

As a bearer of the lowest blood on the hemospectrum, Aradia’s ancestor was probably as poor as she is. She may have been an archeologist like her descendant, assuming the field existed in her era, but I'm much more interested in her potential necromancy.

On the instruction of your ANCESTORS, you have recovered MYSTERIOUS TECHNOLOGY from the ruins, and convinced a friend to adapt it into a GAME THAT WILL BRING ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF YOUR CIVILIZATION.

See, due to her bloodline, Granny Megido is the most likely ancestor to be behind the Voices. She's the only one who can claim a direct relationship to Aradia, and I think she was probably still around in the modern era - as a ghost, of course - guiding her young protege, as she worked to trigger the apocalypse.

What's your story, Granny Meg? How did a lowblood medium discover the secrets of Sgrub, centuries before it arrived? How much did you know back then - and how much influence do you still have, even now?

If Alternia's past is anything like its present - and it certainly seems to be - then I can't see Tavros's ancestor surviving there for long. If he survived to adulthood, then it was probably as a peaceful nomad, or perhaps some sort of ranger.

Either way, I don't think he'd involve himself with other trolls, instead preferring to spend time with his planet's wildlife. Basically, I'm picturing Snow White with a mohawk.

Sollux’s ancestor is undoubtedly still a techhead. I know it's centuries in the past, but this is proto-Sollux we're talking about. He'd invent technology if he had to.

Actually, that might have been his role. He could have been one of Alternia's first engineers, leveraging his Sgrub foreknowledge to contribute to Alternia's technological advancement.

Congratulations, Sollux Senior - you helped turn a nation of pirates into a space empire.

Karkat's an interesting one. In a more primitive society - ie, one without Imperial Drones - it might have been easier for him to hide his blood color.

...actually, he might not even have Karkat's blood color. It's possible that Karkat's candy red mutation is unique to him, and the other Vantas has yellow-green blood, like his Trollian position implies he should. That would result in an ancestor with a very different social position to Karkat, and the two could be substantially different as a result.

Nepeta’s current lifestyle would translate perfectly to a primitive Alternia. Her ancestor could easily still live in a cave – and since shipping is probably her calling, too, I'm picturing her as an accomplished matchmaker.

Kanaya’s situation is rather unique. Jadebloods are rare, and inextricably linked to the Mother Grub, so her ancestor has some of the strongest ties to her counterpart.

We're actually aware of an ancient Mother Grub, who may have been alive in the time of the ancestors - which hints at a relationship between Kanaya's ancestor and the next troll on our list.

That would be Terezi's ancestor, whose symbol adorns the Doomsday Scale. This device was probably a collaboration between the Pyrope and Maryam ancestors. Its purpose is unknown, but the Gate symbol is proof that someone had Sgrub foreknowledge. Curious.

Anyway, aside from this side hustle, Pyrope was probably a legislacerator. I wonder if the Alternian legal system was as broken then as it is now?

Equius... well, I don't really know, actually. He certainly feels like the kind of guy who’d model himself off his ancestor, so he was probably a pro-hemospectrum horse enthusiast.

Gamzee’s ancestor could have gone one of two ways. If Sopor Slime existed back in early Alternia, he might have been as docile as his descendant used to be. If it didn’t, he was probably the exact kind of bloodthirsty monster that Gamzee is currently regressing into.

I know which option I'm putting my money on, and it's the one that would make Gamzee proud of his 'Subjugglator' ancestors. Can you guess which?

Eridan’s ancestor is the Orphaner, which makes me think he has a similar role as a slayer of lusi. My best guess is that he killed the custodians of adult trolls.

Feferi is an odd case, because her ancestor would probably be an extremely famous historical empress. Fuchsia blood is so rare that Feferi is literally the only modern troll who has it, so I wouldn't be surprised if her ancestor was revered in her time.

What did you do to Alternia, Pexies? Did you help make it what it is, or - like your descendant - did you try to make it better?

The one net positive that harenglishcrockberts have with being treated with less attention by Homestuck is they get marginally better fates in postcanon than in canon.

So we have the Strilondes:

Dirk: literally becomes a sulking evil hypergod who isolates himself on a dirtball manyfacturing a destiny where he must die from Dave’s sword. So far he has done nothing cool or ironic.

Dave: had his 2 major relationships ruined and turned into a robot slave of calliope in candy, and in meat is a nothing character devoid of any relevance.

Rose: unfaithful wife and spineless “friend” to Jade in candy, and is nothing more than a robot assistant and nagging critic of dirk. Removed of authority and damned to villainy.

Roxy: got off the hook easy. Essentially a pink Dave in meat, and an ex-housewife and secretive ally to the troll cause in candy. Just don’t ask meat Roxy who she voted for in the 5016 presidential elections.

Now, the Prospitan humans, and their fates.

John: well he does lose his house and ends up becoming a depressed aimless coward but when you read the above descriptions he got off easy the most. I’d rather be a depressed weight than a robot slave or a god-chud

Jade: possessed for a while in meat, but then freed herself, gets to stay in irrelevant background with dave and karkat, as a functioning platonic throuple (i’m coping) In candy she’s a touch-starved homewrecker who gets killed, but at least she’s not Dirk who only has the evil version of himself survive.

Jake: I forgot what happened to meat Jade and I don’t care. In candy he’s the trophy husband to the president and even grew some balls and tried to tell her off. He’s one of the few characters in postcanon that consistently progresses in his character arc, rather than regress (like John and Dirk) become entirely different than what’s in canon (Jane) or just become a flanderized caricature of who they are (Karkat)

Jane: literally rules the world with an iron fist. Married the love of her life, had a kid, had an affair with Gamzee, rich as fuck, millions loyal to her, and unmatched in her rule over Earth C. Ironically the character with the least development in all the human cast gets the most development and happiest ending in the clusterfuck of postcanon.

The lesson here is: try not to be relevant to canon, otherwise you will inevitably become doomed by the narrative.

Rose as a Light Player should make her not as relevant in meta sense. But that also may be because Vriska is here and she is also a Light Player. So all the more relevance goes to her instead of Rose.

ok, i know in the past ive been on team "axe the trolls" but you make a really good case for keeping them. so how much of the trolls would we actually see? obviously we're not going to get shit like sollux losing his vision or troll romance or anything, but how much time are we spending on alternia? at first i was thinking basically no time at all, but now im considering making the back half of the movie a sort of pseudo-hiveswap where the kids go to the seat of HIC/LE's power to defeat them

the fact that we even see alternia at all in homestuck is one of those things which in retrospect is kind of like... why did this happen at all? obviously we can appreciate act 5 because it was fun to read and introduced characters we like but from a purely craft perspective it makes no sense as a digression LOL. even the way hussie talks about the introduction of the trolls kind of insinuates to me that the whole thing was an exercise in running away with an idea that seemed fun at the time and got a strong reaction from readers. so i think the trolls' inclusion in an adaptation needs to be tempered by awareness of that and steps taken to avoid getting similarly carried away. (but i'm sure these are all the same things you thought about when you came to the conclusion that they don't belong in the movie at all haha)

for instance i've taken it for granted that kanaya, karkat, terezi and vriska are The Troll Characters. you can maaaaybe stretch that to include gamzee if the cast ends up starving for antagonists but there's never going to be, like, a vriska and tavros arc. characters like sollux can EXIST for karkat etc to bounce of off in their introductory scenes, but ultimately the movie should be About the humans with the trolls as supporting characters, and there is obviously a limit to how many supporting-supporting-characters a film can feasibly hold the weight of. and to this end alternia and the trolls' individual backstories can pretty much be relegated to implication over explicit flashback.

& the thing about alternia and implications is that alternia as a concept is at its strongest when compared and contrasted with earth. so if you cut the literal alternia out of the equation and transpose all the troll stuff to earth, you can really make that comparison WORK for you; karkat's alien suburb is implicitly a dark mirror version of john's suburb in the comic, so why not make troll suburbs actually a corrupted version of earth suburbs, as the invading trolls corrupt earth in the image of their own homeworld? (again, basically just doing the 'synthesise salvageable parts of the alternia concept into post-scratch earth' thing that Act 6 already demonstrated is possible.) i agree journeying to alternia to beat English could be a strong backdrop for the climax, but it needn't be a literal journey; LE's villainy is best communicated thru his corruption of alternia, and i think in this version of the story the most explicit way to communicate that corruption is to have it happen to the earth before the characters' very eyes. from there you get to explore all these key homestuck questions about toxic cycles and regression vs moving forward and leaving them behind, ultimately approaching the realisation that 'the game', whatever it is, isn't about saving the earth from destruction (after all, the trolls are probably only doing this to save their own asses from extinction, right?) but rather creating something entirely new from the ashes and locking lord english out of his own origin story

that being said i can also see this being approached as a much more literal time loop story where the ending involves travelling back in time to caliborn's / the condesce's youth/s and breaking the loop. and that way you still get to do the whole riff on planet of the apes when they realise Evil Planet was actually Earth's Future All Along. but i think this is another point where it matters whether we're just doing one movie or a series

hi never apologise ever i love getting asks . anyway YAY ilove sharing good headcanons agere gamzee has been in my mind for awhileeee i think it makes sense . i think it ahppens involuntarily when he is overwhelmed which obviously sucks quite a bit but he clings to tavros anywhere she goes so at the very least she can get him to chill out a bit shes good at that otherwise it absolutely becomes a comfort + fun thing for him he likes being looked after and doing things he missed out on on account of Bad lusus ( and also alternia generally sucking ) . he likes colouring books a lot id imagine ... also cartoons but that is a given i think he watches childrens cartoons Regardless umm bonus hcs bc i like talking abt them . i think he already has poor motor skills and stuff like coordination which gets quite a bit worse when hes regressed so he does tend to use like . items ( ?? i need to learn more words for Things ) that are aimed at a bit of a younger age than he actually feels like . ie a sippy cup or somehting image arrow pointing down emoji

Gamzee woke up groggily, turning over to face his clock that sat next to his recuperacoon. It read 11 AM, which was earlier than he’s woken up in a while. The troll lets out a sigh before sitting up, cracking his joints as he stretches. 

He feels different this morning. Not a bad different, but a good one instead. He felt hazy, but not the usual haze he felt after smoking a bowl the night before. He feels… small.

Oh. Oh! He had regressed while he was sleeping.

He takes a few deep breaths before getting out of bed to find his phone. He needed to text Karkat to let him know he was regressed. He really wanted to see his moirail, but he wasn’t sure how busy Karkat would be today, and he really didn’t want to be a bother.

The troll hums, deciding that he would message the other anyways. Anxiety be damned, he wanted to see his best friend!

Gamzee smiles at the exchange. As he waits for Karkat to get to his hive, he starts to get ready for the day. The troll quickly showers, or, really, just runs water and stands underneath it. He feels so much better afterwards, relaxing further into his headspace. He rubs moisturizer into his dreads after his rinse, brushing his teeth and finishing up his normal routine. He smiles at himself in the mirror - he’s come so far from where he used to be, mostly thanks to Karkat. He’s helped him feel like himself again, and now the troll finds himself doing things he never would have before, like this “self care” stuff Karkat had been pushing onto him.

He spots the scar from Nepeta’s claw that spanned across his face, it has since faded since he… yeah, best not to think about that right now.

Karkat arrives soon after Gamzee finishes getting ready.  He knocks on the door to his hive, and Gamzee excitedly goes to open it. He smiles as he’s faced with his caregiver. Karkat smiles back, seeing that Gamzee was dressed in one of his own old sweatshirts, large pajama pants, and some purple fuzzy socks. He looked extremely comfortable, not to mention adorable.

“Hey, little grub. I came over as fast as I could”, Karkat says. Gamzee smiles lazily, going in for a hug. Karkat held the other as best as he could, but it was a little difficult with the height difference. Gamzee towered over Karkat, but his head was bent so his forehead was touching the other’s, his dangling arms wrapped around the shorter troll’s body.

Karkat smiled despite the awkward position, leaning into the touch. Gamzee’s hair smelled like the loc oil the other had gifted him a while ago. The scents of passionfruit and pineapple filled the troll’s nostrils as his hair was pressed against his head.

They stay like that for a while, until Gamzee pulls away from the hug, quietly saying “Thanks for coming over”.

“Yeah, of course, I love hanging with my best pal! What did you have planned for today?” Karkat asked the little.

Gamzee shrugs, fiddling with his shirt a bit. He moves from the entryway so Karkat can properly come in. His hive was a bit of a mess, but nothing compared to what it was a few months ago. Only a few dishes were piled in the sink, a couple of pieces of clothing littered the floor, and a few pieces of paper covering the kitchen counter. It was a huge improvement from how it looked before Karkat had intervened; he couldn’t even see the floor of the hive. The other troll was so proud of Gamzee, as silly as it sounded.

“Can we play video games?” Gamzee shyly asks, eyeing his T.V. and gaming set up in the corner of the living room. 

“Sure, do you want anything to drink?” KK asked. Gamzee shook his head and plopped onto his couch, moving some of the blankets out of the way so Karkat could sit next to him. Karkat walks over and grabs the controllers that sat on the T.V. mantle, handing Gamzee one as he sits on the couch next to him.

“What did you wanna play?” Karkat asks, booting up the other’s gaming system to the home screen. Gamzee shrugs, saying something that sounded like “You pick”. Karkat noticed he mumbled a lot more while he was regressed, the other troll couldn’t understand him most days if he wasn’t reading his lips. 

He selects Mario Party, hoping it was a good choice. It was a simple enough game, something Gamzee could play and actually have fun with while regressed. He guesses it was the perfect choice, considering how Gamzee wiggles in excitement as the title screen plays. 

The shorter troll chooses to play as Bowser, while Gamzee is still trying to decide who he wants to be. “Need help deciding?” Karkat asks him, and Gamzee shakes his head as he clicks on Princess Peach. He smiled softly, she was just so pretty, he had to play as her!

They play a few rounds of Mario Party before Gamzee is practically falling asleep while sitting up. Karkat looks fondly over to the other, deciding that he needs a nap. He gently takes the controller out of Gamzee’s hand, which the troll barely registered as he moved another hand up to rub at his eyes sleepily. Karkat gently moves the little into a laying down position on the couch, pulling a spare blanket over the other.

Karkat decides he’ll make them something to eat while the little one sleeps peacefully, so he can get some food into Gamzee whenever he wakes up. The shorter troll gets up from the couch gently kissing the top of Gamzee’s forehead. The other troll smiles a little in his sleep. 

“Sweet dreams, little grub”, Karkat whispers.
