Pssst…
Guess what?
Me and @randombush3 have a new series coming out. Well two actually, two series, one universe.
Please acquaint yourselves with Antonia and Charlie Sinclair.
Gutta Cavat Lapidem
Fata Viam Invenient
-
Antonia could’ve sworn these boxes used to be bigger. As she settled into her seat, cramped between her father and her sister, she couldn’t help but feel the walls closing in. The buzz of the crowd seeped unwantedly through the glass windows of their private room at Wembley Stadium, amplifying her discomfort. It was supposed to be a special occasion, a chance for the family to bond over a shared interest. But for Antonia and Charlie, who shared a mutual contempt for football, it felt more like a prison sentence than a privilege.
Charlie, true to form, voiced what Antonia only dared to think. “Do we know when this is set to finish? I’m meeting someone at nine, and I need to find time to cut my nails.”
“You’re disgusting,” says Antonia as she turns her lip up at her sister. “All you think about is girls and sex.”
“Can’t help it if I have a more interesting social life than you,” Charlie shot back with a grin.
Their father sighed, a familiar exasperation in his voice. “Can’t you two just enjoy the moment for once? We’re here to support the Lionesses, not worry about your social calendars.”
Antonia rolled her eyes, resisting the urge to point out the irony of their father lecturing them about priorities. “I don’t see why we have to be here at all,” she muttered under her breath.
Charlie snickered. “Maybe we should just start drinking. That might make this bearable.”
Their father’s eyes flicked over to them. “You know, when I was your age, I would have given anything to be in a box at Wembley.”
“And now you’re stuck here with us,” Charlie quipped. “Life’s a cruel joke, isn’t it?”
As the game dragged on, Charlie leaned over to Antonia, her tone dripping with sarcasm. “Do you think he’d notice if we just slipped out?” Antonia snorted.
“Dad would hunt us down. Probably drag us back by our ears”
“He’d try,” Charlie said, eyes sparkling with mischief. “But I’m faster.”
It was difficult for Antonia to suppress her eye-roll, despite being aware of just how public the box was. The crowd was screaming names of players she had never heard of, impressively filling the stadium to the brim, and, beside her, their father was no different.
His hands clapped together as the ball went out of play for a corner kick, head turning to either side, hoping his daughters were at least pretending to share his enthusiasm. But no, they both seemed to be prisoners; caged in luxury with such entitlement that they had not bat an eye at the plush seats or the hand-on-foot service.
They were too comfortable, he decided. Far too comfortable.

Empress Maria Feodorovna's dresses (or Minnie's closet)
I have already published a post with some of Minnie's dresses. But Minnie was a fashionista. She loved to dress well, and she had to. After all, she was the face of the monarchy in Russia since Alexander III was less visible to the public than she was. She did a great public relations job and made sure she had the tools...dresses by the latest French designers, shoes, hats, fans, and a lot of jewelry. It seems that Sacha did not mind the huge bills.
So I went looking in her closet and pulled out a few outfits to share with you...there are capes, mourning attire, and visiting/dinner/day dresses. I did not get any ballgowns. I will next time. (gcl)

Below a lovely sketch of Maria Pavlovna (1890 - 1958)
Tumblr media
This young woman did not have a very happy life. She lost her mother when she was not even three years old. Then she lost her father when Grand Duke Pavel Alexandrovich entered a morganatic marriage without the Tsar's permission and was banished from Russia; he was not allowed to take Maria and/or her brother, Dmitry. The aunt and uncle they stayed with adored them (especially Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich), but the children also lost them. Sergei was blown to pieces by a terrorist, and his wife, Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, entered a convent.
Maria married twice; both marriages ended in divorce. She had a child with her first husband, who was raised by the father, and the baby she had with her second husband died very young.
I admire Grand Duchess Maria because she never gave up even if "relationships" were never her forte due to the many times she was abandoned (the only human being she truly loved was her brother Dmitry). She escaped Russia without papers and held a number of jobs, earning her own living. She lived in several countries, including Argentina.
Toward the end of her life, Maria and her son were able to rebuild their relationship, and she came and went from his residence. He buried her in the family palace in West Germany when she died. When Maria's brother Dmitry died, her son ensured he was interred next to his sister so she could rest close to him. (gcl)

Grand Duchess Elizaveta Mavrikievna, Princess Tatiana Konstantinovna with her children, Prince Georgiy Konstantinovich, Princess Vera Konstantinovna
The family was probably in exile at the time this photo was taken. The "Konstantinovichi" suffered many losses during WWI and the Russian Revolution. Their splendorous wealth was taken away, and for a while, Mavra had to "steal" her own property from what used to be her palace to sell the articles and feed her children.
Her son Oleg died at the beginning of the war (in battle.) Her husband, Grand Duke Konstantin, died of natural causes shortly after that. Her daughter's first husband and the father of her children also died in the war. KR's brother, Dmitry Konstantinovich, was executed by the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks arrested her sons, Princes Ioann, Gavriil, Konstantin, and Igor. All but Gavriil were executed.
Grand Duchess Elizaveta Mavrikievna survived all those losses and lived to finish raising Vera and Georgiy, her youngest children. Gavriil settled in Paris with his wife. Tatiana married again, but her second husband died within a year of the marriage. After that, Tatiana finished raising her children and became an Orthodox nun.
Vera died at the age of 94 in New York. Konstantin and Mavra are known to have at least ten descendants living today. (gcl)

Baby Album: Grand Dukes Nicholas and George Alexandrovich (future Nicholas II and Tsarevich George Alexandrovich)
Nicholas and George were very attached to their beautiful mother as young children. When they were small, Tsarevna Maria Feodorovna was not as busy as she would be later on, so she had more time for these two than she would have for any of her other children. They spent a lot of time playing with her. She let them "ride" on the trains of her dresses, they would always come to her room when she was finishing dressing, and she would let them hand her the jewelry she would be wearing that evening. She told them stories and played with them. When Xenia came along, both of them adored their "little sister." But things were different by the time the third little boy, Mikhail came along; Nicholas and George's teachers reported to Dagmar that the children were "dull" (depressed) because they missed her company. They were beautiful children who turned into handsome adults. (gcl)

I am beginning to fall in love with Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig’s boys. They are very cute. And there is a definite resemblance between Alexey and this two cousins. They all have that Hessian cutie gene. (gcl)
