Geistflame (1st Level, Transmutation)
Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 min.
Classes: Cleric, Paladin, Wizard
You call on the fiery rage of the restless dead, imbuing their anger into one weapon you touch, which begins to glow white-hot with flame. For the duration of the spell, all attacks made with the weapon deal an additional 1d8 fire damage on a hit. While holding the weapon, a creature can use its action to launch a vengeful spirit from it, creating a line of fire 30 feet long and 5 feet wide. Each creature in the line must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 3d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a success. After doing so, the spell immediately ends.
Flashback. If you’ve already cast this spell since the end of your last long rest, you can instead choose to cast it as a Flashback spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher. If you do, attacks made with the weapon deal an additional 6d8 fire damage on a hit, and the weapon can be used to create a line of fire any number of times before the spell ends.

Unholy Heat by Kari Christensen

I want a series of Alchemy cards where when you cast it the spell becomes a random card from a list of cards with similar effects.
So “Wild Card Shock” would be an instant that costs R and can target anything, but then the actual spell you get would come from a list that includes like:
Burst Lightning, Galvanic Blast, Play with Fire, Shock, Tarfire, Wild Slash, Lightning Bolt, Geistflame, Searing Touch, Spark Jolt, perhaps a few others.
And since it becomes the card perpetually, Geistflame would go to your grave and you’d be able to flashback it. I’m imagining if you end up with Searing Touch you’d then get an option to pay the buyback cost.
Essentially I want high variance cards that are usually more or less what they suggest they will be (Shock), sometimes better (Lightning Bolt), and rarely worse (Geistflame, arguably). And since it’s digital you could play with the “actual randomness” on it. Like maybe spells that are more or less Shock are chosen 90% of the time, Lightning Bolt is chosen like 8%, and then the 1 damage spells only happen about 2% of the time.
Just love the idea of what Alchemy can do with this since it can work with any card type. I could also be one that’s like a 10MV spell and then what you actually get is a random 10MV spell from a list that’s wildly different--different effects, different card types, just a real wild card.

Geistpyre
This is based on the art from Geistflame and is thus a complete homebrew.
Rarity: rare
Slot type: weapon
Weight: 3 lb.
Attunement cost: [2][R]
Aura: necromancy
This is a +1 longsword.
The sword gains a charge each time a living creature is slain with it; charges drain each dawn. A charge added to this in this way is the soul (geist) of the creature housed in the sword temporarily. Due to this, any magic used on the dead creature which requires the soul to return to the body, during the time it is charging the sword, does not work.
The sword deals +X fire damage where X is the number of charges on it. Creatures immune to fire damage are only resistant to this fire damage; and creatures resistant to fire damage do not resist this fire damage.
