A little-discussed detail in the Lavender AI article is that Israel is killing people based on being in the same Whatsapp group [1] as a suspected militant [2]. Where are they getting this data? Is WhatsApp sharing it? Lavender is Israel's system of "pre-crime" [3] - they use AI to guess who to kill in Gaza, and then bomb them when they're at home, along with their entire family. (Obscenely, they call this program "Where's Daddy"). One input to the AI is whether you're in a WhatsApp group with a suspected member of Hamas. There's a lot wrong with this - I'm in plenty of WhatsApp groups with strangers, neighbours, and in the carnage in Gaza you bet people are making groups to connect. But the part I want to focus on is whether they get this information from Meta. Meta has been promoting WhatsApp as a "private" social network, including "end-to-end" encryption of messages. Providing this data as input for Lavender undermines their claim that WhatsApp is a private messaging app. It is beyond obscene and makes Meta complicit in Israel's killings of "pre-crime" targets and their families, in violation of International Humanitarian Law and Meta's publicly stated commitment to human rights. No social network should be providing this sort of information about its users to countries engaging in "pre-crime".

On 7th June 2022, Afro-Palestinians of the Old City of Jerusalem rejoiced; their brother Mohammad Firawi was finally coming home.  It had been five long years since Firawi – then a twelfth grader in the middle of school exams – was accused of throwing stones at Israeli police, taken away from his home and shuttled around nine Israeli prisons. Now aged 25, he was ready to be back in the African Quarter, and they were ready to welcome him.  The community’s joy was interrupted, however, when two days later, Israeli intelligence re-arrested and expelled Firawi from Jerusalem for a week. Their reason? That he “defied Israeli orders to refrain from celebrating [his release].” Re-arrest is common practice after prisoners’ release, for reasons as impossible to justify as they are to fight. When one’s existence is made a crime, even moments of joy are closely monitored and policed.   “[The] Israeli occupation wants to prohibit any expression of happiness in the community,” Firawi tells Skin Deep, “even adopting the policy of prohibiting any symbols resembling Palestinian identity, including the Palestinian flag. They fight anything they believe negates their alleged sovereignty in Jerusalem.”

An investment firm led by former Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper that is devoted to launching security companies in Israel has a new “success” story: helping that country’s military conduct secret mass surveillance of Palestinians in Gaza.
According to The New York Times, hundreds of Palestinians have been targeted by an “expansive and experimental” spying effort to “collect and catalogue” the faces of Palestinians. At times, civilians have been “wrongly flagged” as Hamas militants and then interrogated and tortured. [...]
Three out of five members of the Israeli company’s board of directors are Harper’s partners at Awz Ventures, meaning the former Canadian Prime Minister’s firm effectively controls Corsight.
Using Corsight’s spy tech, the Israeli military picked out Palestinian poet Mosab Abu Toha at a checkpoint in central Gaza in mid-November, as he was attempting to flee with his family to Egypt. He was separated, detained, and beaten. [...]
A former commander of this unit, retired Israeli Brigadier General Ehud Schneorson, is another of Harper’s advisory partners at Awz Ventures. According to a report in Israeli outlet +972 Magazine, Unit 8200 has also overseen an AI-based targeting system that has marked tens of thousands of Gazans for assassination. [...]

Note from the poster @el-shab-hussein: The murder of tens of thousands of Palestinians, and possibly my own extended family members, wouldn't have been possible without the investment of Stephen Harper. It wouldn't have been possible without the settler colony known as "Canada" and its bloodthirsty genocidaires.

Appeal from Gaza journalists: Boycott the White House Correspondents’ dinner and stand with your colleagues in Gaza
Palestinian journalists from Gaza are calling on fellow journalists to stand with their colleagues in Gaza and refuse to whitewash the Biden administration's complicity in genocide by publicly boycotting the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Worst part of getting into a taxi cab is having to listen to commercial talk radio and realize just the sort of unashamed, bold-faced lies and unexamined premises that the public is marinating in. Heard a show where people called into vent about things and the host just blamed Justin Trudeau for everything, and then finally someone called on and asked the host to just define "woke" for the audience, and there was this kind of stammering moment where she eventually settled on "pandering to left-wing political correctness" (unfortunately the caller didn't ask her to define "political correctness"). Then the caller talked about the genocide in Gaza and she flat out said that it wasn't happening. Just flat-out genocide denial, right on the air waves. Perfectly acceptable use of limited AM radio bandwidth, apparently. Just absolutely loathsome shit, completely bold-facedly presented.

Shuaib Abu Snina was kidnapped and sentenced to life imprisonment for 99 years by Israeli occupation forces on Oct. 25, 1998. After spending 13 years in prison, Shuiab was among the prisoners to be released in Wafa al-Ahrar. But he was also among the prisoners exiled to Gaza. Shuaib was devastated that the faces of his children, Sumira, Mimona, Khaled, and Qtayiba, and his wife, Manal, would not be the first things he would see after being freed. Manal managed to meet her husband after trying several times. She visited Gaza three times, returning to Jerusalem to take care of her children in between each visit. Every time she visited Gaza, she faced harassment and inspections by the Israeli occupation forces.  Shuaib reported that Manal gave birth to a child named Mou'taz in 2012. Israeli occupation refused to issue his birth certificate for 10 months. The occupation also prevented the family from traveling back to Gaza. "Israeli forces detained Manal and raided our house and stole the money that I sent for my children," he said.  "After several arrests and home raids in the Silwan neighborhood of Jerusalem, the Israeli occupation told Khalid, my eldest son, that they 'will not deal with your [family] as citizens with rights in Jerusalem unless your father divorces your mother,'" Shuaib explained. With a lump in his throat and a voice full of sadness, Shuaib said: " I was forced to go to court in Gaza and divorce my wife in a sham divorce, but the occupation returned the divorce document. I was compelled to formally divorce my wife." He divorced his wife because he loves her, and he wants his family to live as citizens with rights. "After more than 30 years of patience, is this the reward for her kindness?" he lamented.

What part of "killing children is wrong" does Palestine not understand?
I'm sorry, the last time i checked it was israel that had murdered 13,000 innocent children?
Can't believe "killing is children wrong" would be a controversial statement in 2024
