#gerd treatment
if anyone who struggles to eat because of digestive issues has words of advice on how to eat more (*for the purpose of having energy + gaining weight), i'd love to hear them.
i have weird yet mild (undiagnosed?) stomach issues, probably due to the small hiatal hernia my GI found. 90% of what i eat triggers the symptoms- my best guess is that physically filling food is the common factor. other than that, my symptoms are basically just acid reflux and the effects of having it chronically for ~9 months 24/7.
im on medication, which lessens most of it, and lemon honey tea has helps. surprisingly, i can eat cherry tomatoes by the handful and the last time i had a banana it was awful and triggering. so if your advice can be found on the first page of a 'foods for acid reflux' google search, uh, no thanks lol.
i also have adhd and an inconsistent taste palate, so im hesitant to start any structured diet or to plan meals days in advance. (but its not completely off the table)

Finding Relief: Acid Reflux Treatment Options at PACE Hospitals
Acid reflux, also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), is a common digestive disorder affecting millions worldwide. It occurs when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest (heartburn) and other uncomfortable symptoms.  If you're experiencing frequent acid reflux, PACE Hospitals offers a comprehensive range of treatment options to help you find relief.
Understanding Acid Reflux treatment at PACE Hospitals:
PACE Hospitals' team of experienced gastroenterologists understands the causes and complexities of acid reflux treatment. They take a personalized approach, considering your individual medical history, lifestyle habits, and the severity of your symptoms to develop the most effective treatment plan.
Tumblr media
Treatment Options Available at PACE Hospitals:
Lifestyle Modifications:
The first line of defense against acid reflux often involves simple lifestyle adjustments. PACE Hospitals' doctors will guide you on:
Dietary Changes: Identifying and avoiding trigger foods like spicy or fatty meals, citrus fruits, chocolate, and caffeine can significantly reduce symptoms.
Weight Management: Excess weight puts pressure on the abdomen, pushing stomach acid upwards. Losing weight can offer significant relief.
Eating Habits: Eating smaller, more frequent meals, and avoiding late-night meals allows for better digestion and reduces pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), the valve that prevents backflow.
Sleeping Habits: Elevating the head of your bed by 6-8 inches with pillows helps prevent acid from rising into the esophagus while you sleep.
Smoking Cessation: Smoking weakens the LES, allowing for easier acid reflux. Quitting smoking is crucial for long-term management.
Medications:
If lifestyle changes alone aren't sufficient, PACE Hospitals doctors may prescribe medications to manage acid production and provide relief. Some common medications include:
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs): These medications are the mainstay of GERD treatment. They work by reducing stomach acid production, providing significant relief from heartburn and other symptoms.
H2 Receptor Antagonists: These medications also reduce stomach acid production but are generally less potent than PPIs. They may be suitable for mild cases of acid reflux.
Prokinetics: These medications help strengthen the LES and improve the emptying of stomach contents, reducing reflux.
Endoscopic Procedures:
In some cases, more advanced procedures may be necessary to address the underlying cause of acid reflux. PACE Hospitals offers minimally invasive endoscopic procedures performed by qualified gastroenterologists:
Endoscopy with Esophageal Dilation: This procedure widens a narrowed esophagus caused by severe acid reflux damage.
Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication: This minimally invasive surgery strengthens the LES by wrapping part of the stomach around the lower esophagus.
Choosing the Right Treatment:
The best treatment for acid reflux depends on the severity of your symptoms, response to lifestyle changes, and overall health. PACE Hospitals' gastroenterologists will discuss all treatment options with you, considering your preferences and medical history. They will work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that offers optimal relief and improves your quality of life.
Additional Support at PACE Hospitals:
Beyond medical treatment, PACE Hospitals offers resources to help you manage acid reflux effectively:
Dietary Consultation: Registered dietitians can help you create a personalized meal plan to avoid trigger foods and promote healthy digestion.
Stress Management Techniques: Stress can worsen acid reflux symptoms. Their team may offer stress management techniques like yoga or meditation to help manage stress levels.
Support Groups: Connecting with others who understand the challenges of acid reflux can provide valuable support and motivation.
Conclusion:
Acid reflux treatment can be a disruptive and uncomfortable condition. However, with the expertise and comprehensive treatment options available at PACE Hospitals, you can find lasting relief and manage your condition effectively. Don't hesitate to schedule a consultation with a gastroenterologist at PACE Hospitals to discuss your specific needs and embark on your journey to a heartburn-free life.

so i had a short, minor procedure done a few days ago. it was to shove a camera down my esophagus/stomach to better explain my chronic GERD symptoms. anyway. i didn't know what some of the terms on my discharge paperwork meant, so i googled "diaphragmatic hernia". [keep in mind that it was described as both small and without obstruction. and i am not experiencing a medical emergency.]
there's a hole. in my diaphragm. and my stomach is poking through.
what the fuck
that explains... way too much jfc.
also yesterday i saw my massage therapist, and when i told her about my issues she literally pushed my stomach down through my chest.
"sometime those problems are caused by the stomach being too high up! :D" she told me, while i was experiencing a solid 7/10 local pain in that area (it subsided and high spikes of local pain are normal when i see her; she does her job as a masseuse very well)
and! and! she was right! LMAO! (/still kinda freaking out)
