My mother studied what was at the time known as Germanic languages and has since been rebranded to language & literature studies which basically means she has a library about three times the size of mine (especially since she, unlike me, is unable to get rid of books) and of course I deeply enjoy perusing said library and found her school copy of Gawain & the green knight full of her notes. Very cool shit.

#am probably gonna do a media studies masters program which is derived from lang&lit but like #sometimes i do wish id gone into lang & lit instead of art... theres just a bit too much focus on lang unfortch #my mom studied english dutch & german though so some books i unfortunately cannot read #her first language is also french so i cant read those either unless i try very hard but fortunately i dont usually care for the french ones #ANYWAY. thought this would interest the hashtag studyblrs amongst you

(in my case, mostly reread because (unfortunately?) i can name only four new books as my favorite: 'villette' (kisses to marg!), 'stoner', 'my cousin rachel' and (this time 100% unfortunately) only one non-fiction, which is 'the father' by luigi zoja (and welllllll the title speaks for itself, of course i LOVED the book about the origin & evolution of the father figure from a jungian perspective, lol)

I think one of the funny things about me deciding that Kidd and Killer are bilingual and Law is trilingual is that I have decided on specifics on the German front so when Kidd and Law are trying to learn each other's respective languages they are learning primarily from the other so Kidd opens his mouth and Northern German comes out and when they're driving to Italy he's like Law? Babygirl? Darling? Sweet pea? What the fuck is up with Bavarians.

I wish I could draw horses so I could make stupid jokes about Seb's horses in all my historical AUs 😭

But fyi all his horses in the boy king au are the preexisiting names but in Latin. My prof always emphasizes to us how royals back then held latin in high esteem. So it would be so funny to me for Seb to have these absolutely majestic, high bred horses with these seemingly fancy names, but it's just Hungry Heidi in Latin(Avida Heidia?)

I see a lot of language comparisons that completely shit on German for being a silly language. But what a lot of non linguists forget is that 1. Most of the languages you’re comparing are Romance languages, and only English and German are Germanic languages, 2. English is an absolute abomination of a language. English may technically be a Germanic language, but half the words we use stem from Romance languages. English is so much an amalgamation that people have stopped noticing.

You wanna know what maths is called on Icelandic?? Stærðfræði! Fucking SIZE SUBJECT. Chemistry? Efnafræði! STUFF SUBJECT???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????
