Kim Taehyung never knew why men that had their girlfriend’s pregnant, all of a sudden, turned desperate for them. He didn’t understand what was the factor that made them turn into total simps. He really didn’t get it at all. He understood pregnancy was a beautiful step to be taken in a relationship, sure, but what changed?

Tae had some near experiences like when Nam and his girlfriend announced they were expecting a baby. Their leader had told them how his girl suddenly had this glow around her, that she was even more beautiful than ever.

But Tae never saw it.

Sure, Namjoon’s girl was really pretty, but he didn’t recognize any change in her, at all. She looked just the same to him.

Until it happened to him.

He met you a couple of years ago through Seokjin. You were a friend of Jin’s cousins, and Tae was invited to a party his hyung had made, and you were there, and he couldn’t help but fall in love with you instantly.

You started dating each other a couple of months later after a few dates and there you were. Two years into the relationship and you were three months pregnant with his child.

Your baby bump wasn’t really there yet, but as he had memorized every single part of your body, whenever his hand would trace your stomach, he’d sense a little hill there. And it was adorable.

He could see now why people would say there was this pregnancy glow shit.

It was real.

You were glowing, and he couldn’t think of anything hotter than thinking that you were pregnant with his baby. He got you pregnant.

Now, there you were.

You were in the kitchen, making yourself a snack out of strawberry and apple pieces mixed with some chocolate syrup. Something you started doing out of the famous cravings you started having.

He approached you lazily and walked behind you. Tae wrapped his arms around you and pressed his nose against your neck, inhaling your scent.

“Yeah…” he whispered, and started rubbing his nose against the skin of your neck. His lips kissed the curve of it, his teeth leaving slight bites on its wake.

You left the knife on the counter, afraid that you would cut yourself by accident by your boyfriend’s ministrations.

You bit your lip and sighed, “Tae…”

“What?”

“What are you doing?” you asked him, giggling, arching an eyebrow curiously with a smirk.

He chuckled and his hands came to touch your stomach. “You just look so beautiful carrying our baby, I just felt the need to show you how” he whispered.

You chuckled back and turned around in his arms, curling your arms around his neck. “Then, show me…”

Soon enough, you found yourself on your shared bed, both of you naked while his length was buried deep inside you.

You laid on your back, while his hands were placed one on your waist, and the other right above the bump on your stomach.

“Fuck, I hope our baby doesn’t remember any of this because I’m gonna be fucking you any chance I get” he moaned, throwing one of your legs over his shoulder, applying more pressure as he hit the sweet spot inside of you, making you throw your head back in pleasure.

And man, did he truly keep his promise.

It happened everywhere you went.

“No, baby” he shook his head. “We’re keeping you pregnant forever” he said, making you laugh.

“Yeah, next time you carry this baby” you scolded him.

“But you look so sexy with that bump, you have no idea” he said, and you could see he truly meant it, due to the lust that his eyes carried. His hands brushed over your stomach and then to the underwear you were wearing, brushing his fingers over your core.

You got wet in an instant, and gasped, nails digging into the skin of his arms. “Tae… what if someone sees or hears?” you whispered and then let out a gasp again when you felt his fingers brush over your sensitive clit, making you press your head against the wall of the changing room.

Taehyung couldn’t believe his luck. Seeing you pregnant with his child, laughing along with his friends, something so mundane, somehow made him feel like the luckiest man in the world.

His thoughts were cut short when he saw you pop a piece of fruit in your mouth and his eyes fixated on the juice from said fruit running over your lips. Your finger came to lick the remains off and said fingers came to brush over your pregnant stomach, a habit that you started developing since you found out you were expecting.

Tae bit his lip, his eyes only focused on you while Yoongi was talking about something that was pointless and irrelevant to him at this point, and his hyung could feel that he wasn’t paying attention to him in the slightest. Yoongi turned his head and understood that Tae had that dumb look on his face because he was focused on you. Typical, he thought.

He cleared his throat, which caught Taehyung’s attention, who turned his head to look at him. “Hey, I get that ever since Y/N found out she was pregnant with your baby, you just can’t seem to stop drooling whenever she’s around, but if you’re gonna pop a boner, do it away from me, man” Yoongi scolded him with disgust in his tone, mirrored in his face.

Tae laughed and pushed his shoulder, standing up from his seat.

He walked towards you and his heart did a backflip when your eyes met his and instantly smiled.

“Hey, honey” you flashed a toothy grin at him.

Taehyung smiled at you and offered him your hand. You took it, giving him a curious look.

“Where are we going?” you asked him, as you two exited the room and walked towards the elevator.

“To our room”

You frowned. “Did you get hard again over my pregnant stomach, Tae?” you asked him and then looked down at the front of his pants. Yep, he was indeed hard. “Oh my God, Tae, did someone see?”

Tae didn’t say anything.

“Shit, who saw you?” you asked him and he laughed.

“Yoongi”

“Oh no, he’s not gonna let that go, you know that right?” you asked him as the doors of the elevator closed in front of you.

He grabbed your hips and pulled you close. “It doesn’t matter. All I care right now is making you come at least three times on my dick and then getting some kimchi for dinner” he smiled feigning innocence as he arched his eyebrows a couple of times.

No one said it aloud, but war was in the air.

[Y/N] stayed in her room for a week, resting. Jun-seo rarely left her side, only doing so when absolutely required. The others rotated in silently—her mother-in-law bringing soup, Ji-yoon braiding her hair, So-min reading reports aloud in a soft voice. Even Ji-ho, awkward and stiff, left her a tablet full of pre-recorded lullabies.

Her pregnancy had done something irreversible.

She wasn’t just their beloved now. She was sacred.

Yoon Ji-hwan's spirit visited often, lingering in doorways like a sentry.

“They’ll try again,” he warned. “Guilt always becomes desperation.”

He was right.

The Batfamily didn’t back off.

Bruce sent letters through embassies. Dick tried to get in through diplomatic channels. Tim used old contact networks to pressure South Korean officials. Even Damian, quiet and cold, hacked into estate systems trying to “check” on her.

Each effort was met with a swift, ruthless response.

So-min traced the hacking attempts. Ji-ho countered every bug. Nam Ki-ha personally visited a Gotham embassy and delivered a “friendly warning.”

Still, they didn’t stop.

Because something had broken in the Batfamily.

Once they knew [Y/N] was carrying a child, something primal clawed up from beneath their regret. She was blood. She was theirs. And they’d let her go.

Now, they wanted her back.

[Y/N] walked the halls like a queen.

Pregnancy made her softer in appearance, but not weaker. She was sharper, more confident, completely embraced by the Han empire.

Even the staff adored her. Woo-jin bowed lower. Seo-jun anticipated cravings before she voiced them. Lee Hyun-woo stationed guards in her hallway even when she asked him not to.

She stopped asking.

Her child would be safe. No matter what.

Vivian called again.

The screen flickered, and there she was—same perfectly styled hair, same tear-glossed eyes.

“I’m sorry,” Vivian whispered. “I was jealous. You were always stronger than me.”

She ended the call.

Then Bruce tried to come again.

This time, he got as far as the outer gate before being met by Han Tae-joon, Han Jun-seo, and Han Byung-chul.

“You’ve made this personal,” Tae-joon said.

“I’m her father,” Bruce replied.

“You were,” Jun-seo corrected.

Byung-chul stepped forward, cane tapping stone. “If you try to take her, we will end you, Wayne. You don’t understand what family means. But we do.”

Bruce left.

But not forever.

At seven months pregnant, [Y/N] had a dream.

She was walking the halls of the manor. Every room she entered contained a different version of her past—childhood bedrooms, cold birthdays, empty chairs.

Then she found a door she didn’t recognize.

She opened it.

Inside was her child. A boy with her eyes and Jun-seo’s mouth. He looked up and smiled.

“You chose the right family, Mama.”

She woke up crying.

The Batfamily returned once more. This time, not with diplomats or weapons.

Just themselves.

They stood outside the estate gates like ghosts. Hopeless. Desperate.

She walked slowly. Regal in hanbok, belly round with the future.

Bruce stepped forward.

“I made mistakes,” he said. “But I raised you. You’re still my daughter.”

“No,” she said. “You raised a shadow. The Han family raised me.”

Dick’s voice cracked. “Please. Just let us be part of your life.”

Jason muttered, “We’ll do anything.”

[Y/N] looked at each of them.

And smiled.

“I’ll send photos. That’s the best you’ll get.”

She turned away.

That night, the Han family dined together. Jun-seo held her hand. Soon-ja gave a rare toast. Tae-joon nodded in pride. Ji-ho smiled—truly smiled—for the first time in months.

She had chosen her family.

And they would never, ever let her go.

Story notes: You and Namjoon have been married for 6 years, and to keep your relationship spicy, you like to send him naughty pics via text message that end up distracting him from working and causing him no end of embarrassment to his bandmates.

When Yoongi entered 'Rkive', it was to see his long-time friend and bandmate staring off into space as he sat at his control board.

“Oh not again!” he chuckled to himself as he closed the door. “Nam!” he called out, trying not to startle the man.

Namjoon blinked twice before looking up at his friend. He cleared his throat, his cheeks tinting pink and Yoongi knew what, or rather who, had been on his friend's mind. “Oh! Hey! How long have you been there?”

“Long enough to see you thinking about your wife again. What did she send this time?” Yoongi wondered, sitting in one of the empty chairs next to him.

Yoongi (all of the boys really) absolutely adored the woman that had captured his leader and best friend's heart. It was an accidental meeting (Namjoon had been out riding his bike, got distracted by a duck in a pond and nearly ran the poor woman over. If she hadn't jumped out of the way, falling into the pond, she would have been hit with his bike. He was completely embarrassed as he helped her out of the pond, apologizing over and over again as she wrung out her soaked clothing. She waved him off, giggling and the moment their eyes met, it was love at first sight) that turned into something long-term and on a sunny day, 3 years later, in front of the same pond they'd met at, they got married. Married now for nearly 6 years, she still found ways to embarrass her husband, and one of her favorites was sending her husband selfies. Not tame ones either – ones that made him question everything about life and caused him no amounts of embarrassment if he was out in public with his friends and popped a boner after looking at the pics.

If anything, his question made Namjoon's cheeks even redder and he couldn't help the laugh that bubbled up from his throat. “That good, huh?”

“You don't understand, man! That woman can make angels want to commit sins!” Namjoon burst out, making Yoongi laugh loudly.

“And you married her.” Yoongi reminded him.

“Well I couldn't let anyone else get their grubby hands on her! I saw her first!”

Yoongi wondered if he had channeled Jimin for a minute, he was laughing so hard he nearly fell out of the chair. Namjoon sounded like a pouty 5 year old.

“So why are you here, and not at home asserting dominance over your fiefdom?” Yoongi smirked. Namjoon gave him a dirty look.

“Did you just really say 'fiefdom'? Dude.” Namjoon shook his head. “Besides, we have work to do.”

“Work that can wait until later.” Yoongi assured him. “Go home. Be with your wife. You know you want to.”

“...I kind of do.” Namjoon looked down, cheeks and ears red.

“So why are you still here?”

“The music guides-”

“I can call Jungkook.”

“And the ad-libs need-”

“Jimin's free.”

“But the ra-”

“Hobi's down the hall in his studio.”

“But-”

“Jin and Tae are downstairs in the practice room. Go home, Joonie. We got this covered.” Yoongi chuckled, patting his friend on the leg.

“You s-”

“Kim Nam-joon! Go home!” Yoongi laughed, grabbing his friend by the arm and dragging him out of the studio, Namjoon grabbing his bag and jacket before they could be left behind.

“Fine!” Namjoon sighed as he slipped on his jacket, grabbing his bike from beside the door to the studio. “Don't call me unless it's an emergency!” he yelled as he headed for the elevators.

“We won't!” Yoongi yelled back with a chuckle.

The elevator doors closed as Hobi poked his head out of 'Hope World'. “The wife?”

“Yep.” Yoongi chuckled, moving to the door of 'Genius Lab'. Hobi just shook his head with a laugh, going back inside his own studio.

Namjoon entered his apartment to the smells of delicious food. “Y/n, I'm home!” he called out.

“You're home early! I'm in the kitchen!” you returned as he hung up his coat and bag. He followed the smells to the kitchen and found you at the stove, dishing out a soup into some bowls. You looked up and smiled at him. “Why are you home so early? I thought you were going to be a few hours?”

“Yoongi kicked me out.” he shrugged, moving to stand behind you.

“Why would he do that?” you frowned, looking at him over your shoulder.

“Because he caught me staring off into space again.” Namjoon replied, pressing against your back. You hid a smirk, now knowing the reason why he was home early.

“You were thinking about that photo I sent this morning.” you told him, making it a statement and not a question.

“What do you think?” he replied, leaning down to press a kiss to the exposed skin of your neck. You hummed in thought as you moved out of his embrace to take the empty pot to the sink. You could have sworn you heard him growl.

“I think you need to get your head out of the clouds.” you chuckled as you washed the pot, setting it in the strainer to dry. You felt his body heat at your back again, this time his hands resting on your hips as he pressed his nose into your hair.

“How am I supposed to concentrate when I am having the most unholy scenarios about you and me in my head?” he whisper-growled against your ear, making goosebumps break out along your arms. “Especially when you keep sending me those pictures!”

“Well... just keeping you interested.” you smirked, giving him a side eye. You found yourself spun around and pinned to the counter at your back, his lips inches from your own making your pulse rate spike.

“I'm always interested, love.” he stated, his tone dropping an octave and making desire slowly curl in your stomach.

“Yeah?” you whispered, voice shaky and he smirked hearing it.

“The things I want to do to you right now on this counter...”

You couldn't help it – you moaned, the sound seeming to come from the back of your throat. It was rare when Namjoon became so dominant and it turned you on completely.

Using his free hand, he slowly unbuttoned the shirt you had put on that morning, realizing it was one of his. You wore nothing beneath it, reminding him of the photo you had sent him that morning; you wearing this exact shirt while laying in bed, the fabric barely covering you.

“You drive me crazy, do you know?” he whispered, leaning in to press a warm kiss to your sternum.

“A girl has to have goals in life, Joonie.” you replied, shivering against his touch.

“And yours is to make me insane with lust?” he glanced up at you, arching an eyebrow and hollowing his cheeks, a look that never failed to make you wet.

“Yes.” you answered honestly, staring him directly in the eye. He just gave you that look again. You waited to see what his next move would be and he surprised you by wrapping his hands around your waist and hoisting you up onto the counter. You gasped in surprise and desire. “Joon!”

He smirked at you, getting to his knees and pulling your legs over his shoulders. “I am not.” Jungkook waits for the alley to reset after Jimin’s absolutely terrible throws into the gutter. Jimin and Taehyung really had given up and were only invested in making sure you could beat Jungkook.

“Yeah right. You’re all tense. Chill it’s all in good fun.” Jimin shakes Jungkook’s shoulders trying to get him to chill out. It does get him to smile but Jungkook was still planning to beat you. "Now go, it's your turn."

Jungkook picks up his ball, trying to initially think of something clever to say. You weren't just winning the game, you were also winning this trash talk back and forth. He honestly still couldn't believe your comment earlier, mostly because Taehyung keeps laughing about it.

Jungkook had been so quiet mostly because he was trying to think of a good comeback but was coming up short. He glances around for just a second to see where you ended up at. You were talking to one of the guys that came with your coworkers.

You didn't look exactly thrilled to be talking to this guy, you had a similar look on your face talking to this guy that you did when talking to him. It quickly seemed to shift into a more uncomfortable expression, this guys seemed to have trapped you in this conversation. You were looking around at your coworkers and searching around yourself, probably trying to find any excuse to leave. This guy wasn't budging it seemed.

Jungkook didn't really know what to think. He just was speaking before he knew what he was doing.

“Listen… uhh Jackson.” You started but before you would say something else.

"Y/N." Jungkook called over, he really didn't know where he was going with this. It at least seemed to give you and opening. Which was confirm but your reluctant but relieved face coming over to him.

Your job is "mom" to everyone at the label, you make sure they're okay, you look after their well being, you're an assistant, a therapist, so on and so forth. You've been there for about 8-10 years, you're just months older than Jungkook (this is after the Stuck In An Elevator one)

A Day In Life

Namjoon and Seokjin

"Okay~, snackies check, movie check--my phone?" Ofcourse my phone is ringing on my day off, ofcourse you answer it.

"Where are you?" You hear Namjoon ask, he sounds different though, like a older man. You hold back a laugh, "At home? It's my day off"

"What are you doing?" It was so hard not to laugh at this living, breathing, walking, talking, absolute embodiment of Vine in human man form, speaking in this tone. "I'm about to watch a movie. They just put the new Beetlejuice on Max and I haven't seen it yet; you know I love Beetlejuice, I've got snackies. Namjoonie~, please tell me this isn't a emergency?"

You can hear him smiling and see the dimples even through the phone, "Come over," he says in that same ridiculous voice.

"Come over wh--hello?" You hear a click and the call ends, "Namjoon -Kim Nam-"

Y/N: WTF 😑

Namjoon: I was on a show; they said call your wife

Y/N: We aren't married 😂, so no emergency? Everyone is okay?

Namjoon: Yes everyone is fine. Sorry about the shenanigans. You can still come over, Max and smash 😏

"She said again." Uncle Taeyhung says sternly, he has the crazy eyes, she likes the crazy eyes so she giggles

"Eomma play!!"

"Tae, I need a break," she sees Jimin laugh as they walk to her, "Baby, Y/N is working today," she's picked up by Uncle Tae Tae

"Eomma~," she whines

"Okay, okay, don't cry. We can go see her if Oppa and Uncle Taeyhung can stop"

"Okay," she smiles and lays her head on her uncle's shoulder as they leave

"I'm too dizzy to drive," Jimin laughs and Taeyhung agrees. The playground isn't far from the building so they walk over

"Delivery," there's a knock on your door and you answer, "oh my goodness, what could it be? Ah~ is it my Ava?" You happily take her. "You guys look.....dizzy," they nod

"She had us be the rocky horses in the playground," Tae explains as you pass them drinks from your mini fridge in your office and they start gulping them down quickly

"Did she not let you guys get dressed, you're in your jammies still"

"Not really, she had a rough morning and a bad dream so I even had to call in reinforcements," Jimin points to Taeyhung

"Well stay and rest a bit, cool off," you sit and work holding her until she wants Jimin again, he's passed out next to Taeyhung, you place her on his lap and move his hand to her back she wants Taeyhung so you do the same, sitting her on him and moving his hand to her back and she lies down, they all crash there while you work; Ava on Taeyhung's lap/chest

"Jungkook, we have someone here who really wants to tell you something," the host of the show Jungkook is performing on tells him and he brings attention over and scans for where to look. You wave and Ava is waving, you may be recognizable enough having gone to events with the guys for work, Ava however wasn't and you and Jimin preferred to keep her connection to him private for now. You thought it wouldn't hurt to take a trip to support Jungkook and see him perform and she was really missing him.

"What's your name sweety?" The host asks her and gives the microphone to the toddler. She grabs it and brings it close, "not that close baby," you help her. "Ava!!" "Ava, what did you want to tell Jungkook?" The host, who has no idea they know each other asks. "I luv youuuuu"

"I love youuuu tooo~~," he smiles and giggles

"I go up GooGoo"

He laughs, she loved to be on stages during practices and GooGoo is what she called him, you assure her he can see her and hold her after the show and he has to perform

"Yooooo~~~, ARE YOU FORGETTING SOMETHING VITAL TO BABYSITTING?" You call from your room, shaking your head as you finish helping Ava get ready and you two giggle at him being silly and starting to leave

"No, why? I've got the bag and the toys-oh shibal~ the baby," he laughs and comes back to grab her

"Thanks Yoogi Bear," you reach up to kiss his cheek

"Aish~," he throws his head back, "don't tell anyone else I let you call me that," he kisses your other cheek and tells Ava to give you a kiss before they leave for their day so you can finally catch up on everything you need to do and Jimin can work on his shit; you two need a mediator that isn't you the past few weeks with how he's been working your nerves; other than time with Ava, you've been avoiding each other; you both knew the love was still there but you were just going through normal couple squabbles; only despite everything, there was still no label on you too so you had no idea what was going on and that was one problem the other and where this seemed to start was when Hoseok asked you out; because of everything you hadn't responded and he understood; his theory was that Jimin was getting jealous of him and Namjoon. Little did you know that later today after your work was caught up he and Namjoon had planned to trap you and Jimin to work all of this out, another reason they asked Yoongi to watch Ava. While you worked, Yoongi had Ava, and Jungkook was taking Jimin out on a Best Friend Day to put him in a better mood for later

Kdramas i've watched this year

Some of these are older dramas but i'm a procrastinator

Black Knight (2023): Loved this one! I have watched it probably 5 times now. Kim Woobin kicking ass is all i need!

Under the Queen's Umbrella (2022): I didn't watch this when it aired (no idea why). I was worried that the plot would be overrun by romance but thankfully i was wrong. Loved Kim Hye-Soo's performance (i cried a little).

Island seasons 1 & 2 (2022-2023): Honestly i only started this one for Kim Nam-Gil. I loved the cast, but the flow of the plot was a little off (don't know how, i can't put a finger on it). Was positively suprised by Cha Eun-Woo's acting, i think he needs more roles like this! Hot villain alert no.1! Sung Joon as a bad guy is either a blessing or a curse. Cgi could have been better.

Taxi Driver season 2 (2023): Loved the first season so of course i had to watch the second one. Love Lee Je-Hoon. Love the main characters. Love the plot and the message of this drama. A masterpiece. Waiting for season 3.

Weak Hero Class 1 (2022): Only heard of this drama wayyy after it aired (thanks tiktok) and god does it deserve every award there is! I was a bit hesitant because Park Ji-Hoon was the main lead, but boy was i wrong because his talent got me speechless (weren't we all). I cried, i cheered, i shadowboxed, i cried a little more and in the end i called my therapist. Thankfully season 2 is coming.

Bloodhounds (2023): Woo Do-whan and Lee Sang-Yi in the same drama beating people up? Yes please! The plot wasn't mindblowing, but sometimes just simple ass kicking is enough. Bromance was bromancing. Park Sung-Woong with another great villain character.

Revenant (2023): After dropping Mr.Sunshine i wanted to see Kim Tae-ri in other dramas, so when this aired i gave it a go. Her range is phenomenal! I have only seen couple spookier dramas, so i made a mistake and watched this at night (slept with the lights on). The eerie vibes and plot twists were well made. Hong Kyung had great chemistry with Kim Tae-ri and his cop role was refreshing to see after his performance in Weak Hero Class (if you know you know).

Flower of Evil (2020): Okay, this is one of the dramas i procrastinated hard on. It's been sitting on my "have to watch" list since it aired and i'm the only one to blame (i hype up a drama in my mind, then don't want to watch it because now i'm afraid it doesn't go the way i think it does and then i get disappointed blaablaablaa). This year i finally got over myself and why. didn't. i. watch. it. sooner!!!! It is all i ever wanted in a kdrama. 1. serial killers 2. a psychopath (but is he really?) w/ an effed up childhood 3. mindgames 4. marriage problems (but has a lot of soft & cute scenes) 5. Lee Joon-Gi. Also as a plus (hot villain alert no.2) the bad guy is kindaa (i'm sane i swear). I would be lying if i didn't say that i found the wife slightly annoying (might be me, but she went too much back & forth and sometimes i had to take a breather while watching), but all in all this drama will be hard to top and i fell in love with Lee Joon-Gi.

Moving (2023): Honestly one of the best dramas of the year. I don't usually really go for plots that have a lot of romance in them (if you haven't noticed), but i found this one to be really well balanced and the romance scenes weren't "cringy". Although Bong-Seok and Hui-Soo were great and had great chemistry, i looooved the background stories of the parents. Park Hee-Soon also pops up as kind of a non-villain villain. I hope there is a season 2.

Song of the Bandits (2023): Kim Nam-Gil again. 1920s Korea and gunslingers... what more could i need? After Mr. Sunshine left me with a disappointment (this might be an unpopular opinion) i craved for a drama set around the same time period, but with a little less romance (i know, i am defective). I think dramas should explore this time period more, but i understand it might still be a touchy subject. The skills of the cast were obviously great, Kim Nam-Gil killed his role like always, but Lee Ho-Jung as Eon-Nyeon shined with her performance (i am now a new fan). Hot villain alert no.3! I have seen Lee Hyun-Wook in Remarriage & Desires and seeing him as a villain made me feel things. If there isn't a second season i will cry.

The Killing Vote (2023): A "serial killer" in a dog mask making the public vote on punishing criminals and everyone suspects each other? Cyber crime? Chemistry between two cops? Major hot villain (no.4)? Sign me up. I love when crime dramas make you question your people reading skills (i have the tism so i really got none) and have all kinds of theories flying around. I liked that even Kim Mu-Chan and Joo Hyun had obvious chemistry between them it didn't overshadow the main point of the plot. I liked Seo Young-Joo's delivery and i hope he gets more bigger roles. Kim Kwon.... why does the psychopath have to be hot? He also needs more bigger roles. !spoiler! Also Park Sung-Woong killing (heh) yet another morally grey character.

The Worst of Evil (2023): Okay, first of all i have to say... the wife ruined everything (some agree and some don't). We get another bromance duo of the year with Wi Ha-Joon and Ji Chang-Wook. Loved the crime organization infiltration plot, heavily despised the romance plot (sorry Bibi baby). I was constantly on the edge of my seat and the characters started to get so morally grey that in the end everyone needs group therapy. Action scenes were chefs kiss. A honorable mention goes for Lee Shin-Ki as Seo Jong-Ryul (or Chief Seo, knife guy, the man has many names) and Bibi for her performance as Lee Hae-Ryeon.

Evilive (2023): Heavily underrated. Kim Young-Kwang doing what he does best, playing a psychopath. This combined with a bromance plot with the one and only bromance master Shin Ha-Kyun? I'm sold. The dramas literal title "villain story" really sums up the plot. Sometimes you are not sure who to cheer for. Sometimes you are not really sure about your own sanity. But to be fair, so aren't the main characters.

Vigilante (2023): Love it. Currently re-watching it. Needs more attention. Needs more episodes. I'm in love with Nam Joo-Hyuk. The best crime drama of the year, the title is all i needed to hear. Beating up criminals in well made action scenes is my favorite genre. No romance. One sided bromance? Morally grey characters (am i repeating myself now?). Yoon Ji-Tae as a beefy cop and Lee Joon-Hyuk as a slightly insane admirer? If we don't get a season 2 i will start a riot.

2023 End of Year Post - kdrama edition

Yes, we have a some of December left, and I want to check out Death's Game but whatever. I got time for this now and not sure if I will have later so here goes.

This is only going to cover kdramas that aired in 2023; if I watched it but it was made in a different year, it’s not on the list. This was an excellent kdrama year, the likes of which we hadn't had in a long time.

DRAMAS WATCHED

In order of liking from least to most as opposed to pure quality so pls don't come for me, fans of some popular dramas that are on my nope list. Also, I am including if I’ve seen enough to make up my mind; yes I realize that’s inaccurate, but that’s my list.

33. The Escape of the Seven - this is so aggressively stupid and mean that it feels like the makers are playing a practical joke seeing how much their audience will take. This has a season 2 coming, so the answer is a lot.

32. Behind Your Touch - the FL gets superpowers by touching people's and animals' butts. Yes, you read this right. Do I really need to add anything?

31. King the Land - yes, it was a hit. Yes, it stars popular actors. I HATED IT LIKE IT TOUCHED MY BUTT TO GET SUPERPOWERS!!! Plastic people in paint by the numbers story, with about as much genuineness or retability as a barbie aisle in walmart. I never expect much from Yoona so whatever, but to have LJH go from The Red Sleeve to this boggles the mind.

30. Mrs Durian - this is so dumb that I think I lost a few IQ points watching this, but its insanity becomes entertaining - I mean what kdrama can you name where a daughter in law declares her love and lust for her mother in law at a family dinner?

29. The Matchmakers - there is nothing offensive about this drama at all. But there is nothing in the least interesting either. If elevator music took drama shape, it would be this show.

28. Destined with You - sorry, Rowoon, I am still fond of you, but you are two for two in drama duds department this year. This is a drama where I loved ep 1, liked ep 2, was indifferent to 3 and...you get the point. Each ep was worse than the one before, and I bailed before I was dragged into a cosmic singularity.

27. Oasis - great first two episodes. Unfortunately it was not a two ep show. The performances are solid but the story is just not there - the effect is like a fancy chef making an amazing sauce to put on pig slop.

26. Boyhood - it's not you, it's me in action. I can see why people would like it but a 34-year old playing a high schooler in a Weak Hero Class 1 Slapstick Edition is no go for me.

25. Castaway Diva - it's so precious and kooky in the most annoying ways, with the most well-adjusted abused castaway in history. I like magic realism when done by Jorge Amado, but this ain't Amado.

24. Island - it had a good concept, good cast and fun visuals but the execution deserved one of ML's swords through the neck.

23. The Worst of Evil - if I wanted an American show, I'd watch one. Very solid performances though.

22. Song of the Bandits - period edition of what I said about The Worst of Evil.

21. Welcome to Samdalri - and goodbye to any hope of emotional involvement.

20. Joseon Attorney - I have yet to like a single sageuk centered around a profession and this was not an exception. I guess it could be worse but it also could have been so much better.

19. Twinkling Watermelon - everyone loved this drama. Everyone except for me. It's the kind of precious that sets my teeth on edge and I couldn't stand half the main characters we were supposed to root for. I guess I like my fruits to shine steadily.

18. Our Blooming Youth - probably the biggest disappointment on this list. This is not a bad drama by any means, but with that cast and that story (I loved the novel), I was hoping for a memorable sageuk not merely all right.

17. Vigilante - it has the emotional complexity and nuance of a punch to the throat but it gives us quasi-gay openly-murderous dudes going after psychos and Yoo Ji Tae holding feral Nam Joo Hyuk by his hoodie at his feet.

16. The Forbidden Marriage - expected nothing but it was a surprisingly enjoyable trifle of a costume drama that was also quite pretty.

15. Arthdal Chronicles: Sword of Aramun - a hot mess but such an entertaining epic one. And it gave us TWO Lee Jun Kis in period gear and who am I to cavil at the bounty of God?

14. The Story of Park's Marriage - it's a trifle, a souffle, so light it might blow away, but it keeps my attention and is so fun and sweet.

13. My Lovely Liar - a huge surprise, that manages to mix a murder mystery and a romcom, and shocked me by showing Hwang Minhyun can act.

12. Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 - the original ToNT was my fave drama of its year and I did not think it needed a sequel. But this is not a sequel but more of a side-quel and is such a total delight with brotherly love, adventures, romance and hijinks. It's a joy.

11. Perfect Marriage Revenge - it's actually very hard to do a soap right but this slim 12 ep drama managed. So fun, so crazy, such a good ship!

10. My Lovely Boxer - not really about sports, but about two broken people finding salvation because of and in each other. Also, if you like age gap romances, this is delicious. Sort of loses steam by the end but c’est la vie.

9. The Secret Romantic Guesthouse - this was a sageuk that was not on my radar with a bunch of actors I was not familiar with but it took my heart away. A good plot that was perfectly paced, characters and ships I adored, a logical ending. This is one of the biggest positive surprises of the year for me.

8. Tell Me That You Love Me - a slice of life remake (sort of, it's more "inspired by") of my favorite jdrama of all time. It's not as good as the jdrama because nothing could be, but it's an aching lovely story with some incredible performances.

7. See You In My 19th Life - funny and romantic and haunting and hopeful and odd. This was one of my favorites of the year.

6. Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow - it's rare for me to like a (1) sequel (2) with FL actress change (3) that is a Hong Sisters drama. But this was such a gorgeous, surprisingly achy story of love and loss and love regained with some cool monster fighting in the middle. Between the two seasons, this is the first Hong Sisters' drama I enjoyed from beginning to end in well over a decade.

5. My Demon - so tropey (chaebols, supernaturals) but it proves that these tropes are popular for a reason. The chemistry is fire, the story is unpredictable and the whole thing is an addictive delight. A rare drama where I like each new ep more than the last one.

4. Goryeo Khitan War - an old school sageuk in every meaning of the term (no romance, no eye candy, lots of bearded men, battles and politics), this feels like watching an epic movie more than a drama. The vast cast all earns their place and the performances (mainly from character actors given a chance to shine) are incredible.

3. Call It Love - two very very damaged people finding love and healing with each other. This is a narrative very hard to do to my satisfaction but when it's done well, as here, there are few things that can hold a candle to it.

2. My Dearest - a masterpiece of cinematography, narrative, performances. This is an old-school epic romance in the best sense of the term. If it doesn't make you swoon or break your heart, there is something wrong with you. A story of two untraditional, strong-willed, flawed people who fall in love in the middle of the horrifying Qing invasion of Korea and have to deal with all that the world throws at them, this is a bona fide masterpiece.

1 - Moon in the Day - who knew my favorite kdrama of the year will star a store brand Domyoji from Extraordinary You and an actress I was never familiar with. But this part period/part modern fantasy tale of doomed cursed lovers is everything I knew I wanted and everything I didn't know I wanted but did. Two lovers where their love did not save them and in modern day it might not again, has got me obsessed the way I haven't been in years.

FAVORITE DRAMA

Moon in the Day - if there is such a thing as a drama made perfectly for me, this gorgeous, emotionally haunting, utterly romantic, twisty tale is it.

WORST DRAMA

The Escape of the Seven. This drama is proof that demons exist and not sexy ones like Song Kang but horrible nasty ones who delight in the torment this hot mess inflicted on its viewers.

FAVORITE MALE CHARACTER

Do Ha, Moon in the Day - a Silla general and a consummate killer who committed atrocities on the orders of his monster father and yearned to die for them, who found the meaning in life in loving his enemy but it did not make him better, a man so obsessed he literally was around for 1500 years of horrifying ghostly existence and still went "worth it" for a woman who killed him as long as he knew she loved him while she did it. He's intense and competent and beyond fucked up and has never had a normal day and I love him so so so very much from a safe distance.

FAVORITE FEMALE CHARACTER

Gil Chae, My Dearest - she starts out as vain and spoiled but the horrors that break so many others bring out all her fierce survivor potential and she becomes such a force of nature - capable of incredible love but also sacrifice and strength and compassion.

Runner Up: Shin Hye Sun's reincarnator in See You In My 19th Life - quirky, damaged, strong, so odd and so vulnerable at once.

NEEDS TO BE MURDERED

There are a lot of characters who fit that category (King Injo in My Dearest? My God) but the crown belongs to So Ri Bu from Moon in the Day. You think you've seen abusive parents but until you've seen a man abuse his son his whole life and then continue for 1500 years after his death, you ain't seen nothing!

FAVORITE SHIP

The doomed by the narrative OTP of Moon in The Day. Only thing that's better than enemies to lovers is enemies while lovers and their impossible relationship where her killing him is a supreme act of love and his refusing to let go is so strong that he stays around for 1500 years watching her, helpless as she dies over and over again, is everything you ever want.

Runner up: Jang Hyun/Gil Chae, My Dearest. They are so strong and so damaged and it takes them so long to figure out what they feel and what the other person feels but their love and sacrifice and complexities are perfect.

FAVORITE SECONDARY OTP

Kim Shi Yeol/Hong Joo, The Secret Romantic Guesthouse - an assassin bodyguard pretending to be a carefree scholar and a widow of the man he killed to protect his king (and whose life was destroyed as a result.) I enjoyed the main OTP of this drama but I was utterly and completely unhinged for the secondary couple.

I'd have probably picked Rang and his mermaid from TotNT 1938 even over them, but they really were the main OTP of that drama.

NOTP

King the Land couple seems like an easy target but honestly, they are both so terribly bland and antiseptic and marketing by committee, they kinda deserve each other. So I am gonna go with Destined with You, one half of which thinks supernaturally roofying someone into loving them is cute and the other half thinks dating one woman while wooing another is totally a-ok. Ugh.

FAVORITE SCENE

There is no competition for the scene in the slave market in My Dearest, where Jang Hyun finds Gil Chae - the way he screams and tries to clutch the hem of her skirt will live in my head forever.

And the scene where he 'wins' that horrifying bet, or the scene where she finds him in a pile of bodies - they are as good also. Or when he fights off a squad to protect her even though he's sick. That whole drama is perfect.

Runner up: the scene of Do Ha executing Ri Ta's family, covered in blood, as she looks at him from the crowd in Moon in the Day.

Or the scene where he talks about how he cannot live as a person but at least maybe she will kill him and he will die as one. Or when her confession in the past intercuts with his walking in the present, or when he comes home in his bloodied armor and she finds he has a fever and it's the first tender touch he's probably ever known. Her murdering So Ri Bu saying she knows she's going against filial piety in loving her parents' murderer, the way they hug, both bloody, as he says "let's live." The way she says she can't go on as she's hit rock bottom and he replies she cannot quit because she must accompany him to his rock bottom now. Honestly, the drama is a font of amazingness.

Also, the opening scene of Goryeo Khitan War or the scene of Yang Gyu ordering to shoot the captives and having to do so himself.

The OTP meeting again at the intersection at the end of ep 1 of Tell Me That You Love Me. SHS comforting ABH as he's having a traumatic breakdown in 19th Life. The love-making scene in Call It Love. There were a lot of great scenes this year.

BIGGEST CRUSH

Lee Jang Hyun, My Dearest - is that even a competition? He's flawed - vain, often emotionally closed off, not great at processing emotions, lashing out when hurt. He is also incredibly heroic in a real, knows the cost but bears it, kind of way. Whatever he does, he commits utterly but it's never without understanding the cost. He felt both larger than life and utterly real. He went through hell and maintained his soul and the way he loved Gil Chae was breath-taking to behold.

Runner Up: Yang Gyu, Goryeo Khitan War - an experienced military commander who wins an impossible victory even as it ravages his soul. Competence is sexy as fuck.

BEST SCENE STEALER CHARACTER

Rang, Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 - 1938 really was Rang's chance to shine and he took it. For a character I started out disliking in the original, he really stole my entire heart in this drama. I am so glad he got his happy ending with his brother and his girl.

Runner Up: Crown Prince, My Dearest. He started out as a sheltered, spoiled aristocrat, convinced the world owed him for existing. He grew up slowly and painfully into an amazing man. And then was murdered for it and I cried.

NEEDS A SEQUEL

Arthdal - it leaves the story at a good stopping point but it's very much a "world in flux, adventures and conflicts continue" ending and I would love to see more of these characters. I know we won't but it would have been nice.

NEEDS SCISSORS TAKEN TO IT

Behind Your Touch - should have been snipped at birth.

TOO MANY SCISSORS TAKEN TO IT

Vigilante - I don't mean it had scissors taken to it because it's not cdrama and there is no NRTA, but this drama would have benefitted from being longer. I mean, I love fights and gay polycules as much as the next tumblr person but a bit more character development would not have come amiss. (ahaha - I said come. Leave me alone.)

TROPE THAT NEEDS TO DIE

I don't care about cops/doctors/trash collectors/whoever - workplace drama centering on their "cases" needs to die. I hate procedurals from any country and Korea is no exception.

FAVORITE TROPE WE’VE SEEN A LOT OF

Supernatural critter devoted to their OTP with all the power of their long life.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

Our Blooming Youth - it was far from terrible but it was a giant meh. I was so excited to see Park Hyung Sik in a sageuk (that wasn't the hot mess that was Hwarang) and I adored the source novel. It actually started well and then...it's like Revenge of the Beige!

BIGGEST GOOD SURPRISE

I want to say Moon in the Day but to be honest, I was excited by posters and trailers so it wasn't wholly a surprise despite not having much of an opinion on the actors before I saw them. So I am going to say My Demon. I was bored by the trailers, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a Kim Yoo Jung drama and before this year I would have said Song Kang was an incredibly limited actor in everything I've seen him in and not appealing to me at all. And here I am rabidly rabiding for this drama!

If I am not limiting myself to dramas but can use this for actors - Hwang Minhyun in My Lovely Liar. I genuinely did not think the man could act and then he gave such a pitch-perfect, nuanced performance out of nowhere!

2023 DRAMAS I HAVEN’T SEEN THAT I MOST WANT TO WATCH

I have actually watched all the kdramas that aired this year that I wanted to check out except for Evilive. I am saving this for when I have time.

BEST NON-2023 DRAMA I’VE WATCHED IN 2023

I don't know if I'd say it's the best but Say You Love Me (2004) with Kim Rae Won as a quasi monk seduced away from his true love by an evil older woman was a hell of a ride.

MOST ANTICIPATED

Love Song for Illusion (Lady assassin falls for her royal target who has two personalities), Captivating the King (lady spy falls for her royal target who is tormented) - notice a theme? Also Flower that Blooms at Night because Honey Lee in a sageuk, The Life of Mrs Ock (Lim Ji Yeon in a sageuk), The Love Story of Chun Hwa (an "erotic" sageuk, hmmmm, what?!), Hong Rang (Lee Jae Wook in a super angst sageuk), Queen Woo (that cast and set in Goguryeo!), Wong Kyung (about Lee Bang Won's wife and I love the cast.) Basically, if it's period, I am there with bells on.

Kim Young Dae | Allure Korea - November 2024

I feel proud when I’m praised for my work. For me, acting isn’t complete until it resonates with the viewers. When someone resonates with my performance or feels inspired by it, that’s when I feel like I’ve done well. That’s why I prefer being called by my character names like Kim Ji Wook, Joo Seok Hoon, Oh Nam Joo, or Gong Tae Sung rather than my real name. I just wanted to get through the year without any major issues. It’s been an eventful year, but here I am, still standing. I want to get back into reading. I feel like I need to detox my mind and spirit. In my early 20s, I loved reading and did it often, but these days, I just end up watching Reels when I could be reading. That’s probably the cause of my emotional highs and lows, right? I want to get rid of all the things I see as problems—like sleeping in, binge-watching Reels, and overeating. I want to resist the impulse to make unhealthy choices as a way of dealing with stress.

“What are you doing here?”

Taehyung stands outside her door, feeling a mix of guilt and relief in the pit of his stomach. You’re wearing Nam Joon’s hoodie and it makes him want to throw up. It hurts him so bad.

Yuna asked a good question. It’s weird. He doesn’t know why or how he ended up at her door. From the moment he read her texts about being with Nam Joon, he just couldn’t sit still.

Truth be told… There were no plans with Addie made for tonight. He just needed an excuse to see you. Then, he remembered leaving his hoodie at your place. From there on… Well, you all know the rest.

“I don’t know,” he confesses, taking a step inside. It had begun to rain and the mist made him look sweaty. Yuna does her best to slow down her breathing, in attempt to stop it from racing so much.

It’s true what you had said to her once before… Boys always look so much more romantic with wet hair.

“I came for my hoodie—“

“No,” Yuna interrupts him. “You said you didn’t want to see me.”

And Yuna can’t help it. Her voice crumbles like dry clay as she finishes her sentence. Her lips, curved into a smile earlier because of Nam Joon, are now tingling with ache as she tries not to let a sob out.

Taehyung looks at Yuna and feels so much hurt. The air between them is stick and like never before. In the past, they have fought and had a few tantrums with one another… But this was different. This felt like the beginning of their end.

“I didn’t mean it…” Taehyung takes a step closer to Yuna. Yuna stands still, letting him close in the space. Suddenly, his arms wrap around her. Yuna can’t hold it in. A sob escapes her lips and her eyes quickly shuts as her tears begin to stream down her face. “Shhh, I’m here… I’m sorry—“

“You’re not—“ Yuna suddenly pushes Taehyung away. “You’re not sorry. You said you were tired. You said I was a bad friend. You said you needed to move on—this? This is not us moving on. Don’t you have a girlfriend—“

Taehyung huffs, “she’s not my girlfriend.”

“But you’re seeing her. You’re taking her on dates. You’re kissing her. You’re—“

“I’m with you,” Taehyung says it like a plea. “Do you think this is easy for me? I’ve waited for you for so long… I can’t just not be here for you. I can’t let go of you that easily—“

Yuna shakes her head profusely. “No, Taehyung… I refuse to be the other woman. I refuse to be caught in this yes or no game with you. We’ve played it enough.”

“Yuna… I don’t k-know what I want.” Taehyung chokes on his words. “I wanted you for so long, I don’t know what it’s like to not want you.”

Yuna lets out a small laugh. “Then why are you with Addie?”

Taehyung gulps.

He takes a step back, not knowing what to say or do. He isn’t sure there is anything that can change what he had done and said to Yuna. He made his bed… Now, he has to lay in it.

As he opens his mouth to speak, Yuna goes over to her bedside and holds Taehyung hoodie in her hands. Turning to Taehyung, she shoves the hoodie to his chest and pushes on him a little. It’s enough to move him.

“Go,” Yuna cries, letting go of his hoodie. Taehyung holds it, feeling his heart breaking like never before. “I can’t do this right now.”

“Yuna—“

“Taehyung,” Yuna breathes. “I’m tired too.”
