NEVER TWICE

I'm not the review writing type. After watching a show I just go to Tumblr to reblog posts that have moments from the show that touched my heart, made me laugh and then I move onto the next show. But I think 'Never Twice' tag deserves to fill so much more than it already is.

Never twice, I came upon the show freshly after completing 'Its Okay to not be Okay' after being impressed by Kwak Do Yeons amazing acting in the show. It was either this or completing 'Vincenzo' which I forget why I had put on hold. Something about the Kdrama poster of 'Never Twice' and it's description felt so nostalgic to me, i decided to watch it.

Before I say anything more, I think the formal description deserves its place here:-

An old stately inn stands in the heart of Seoul. It may be old, discolored, and weathered, but Nakwon Inn exudes old-world charms. As the typical cold uneventful winter comes to an end at the inn, guests start to arrive one by one as if each had promised to be present. Strangely and coincidentally, each one of them repeats Never Twice as they enter. The truth is, they all have a fateful reason to be there. What could have brought these individuals together? And what do they all have in common considering their long-term stay, assigned room numbers, gender, age, and hometown? The real reason for coming to Nakwon Inn unfolds.

Despite having smart phones in the show and being set in recent years it still does not fail to give 90s sitcom vibes the familiarity of which I felt was very comforting to me. The plot follows stories of lots of different people but the pacing was very well done and nothing felt rushed, all loose ends were tied in the end and the ending gave a neat little bow of completion of which you see pictures of, above.

Recently I've been going through a bad time and the comfort of watching the show felt like being sick in bed being nursed with warm soup. Its not a grand show where amazing things happen, it's a slice of life where you end up caring for each of the characters and their flaws. No one is perfect and at the start of the show all of them are at the lowest of their lives but they get to meet in Nakwon Inn and in their misery they work together to raise each other up. It's a show that makes you hopeful, gives you the message of keep holding on, tell you good things happen and the bad guys will never win, But it also makes the bad guys human. No one is truly evil at the core.

It's a simple show, nothing fancy, a very stereotypical plot where the good win and the bad suffer but sometimes you don't need something too complex. Sometimes all you want is to be feel comforted. And when you need comfort I hope you will turn your eye to this show.

I wish I was more eloquent in voicing how much this show has warmed me from inside. Because I want this show to get the recognition it deserves, it's so amazing in its simplicity, and like I will be back to Nakwon Inn whenever I need to feel comforted I hope you who is reading this will also consider joining me here. I hope it will become as much as a home to you like it was to me.

Long post, spoilers, and wishful thinking for Never Twice

Okay, I'm just going to say I'm glad Geum Bak Ha was fired. Yes, I know Oh In Sook is shady af and I'm ready for her to go down. But...I'm such a nerdy rule follower that I cannot abide by Bak Ha going through In Sook's drawers. In Sook is the manager of that gallery. What if there was confidential data (like a doctor's note or performance evaluation) on one of the other employees in that drawer? What Bak Ha did was unethical and In Sook's past behavior doesn't excuse it.

Also, if Bak Ha doesn't work for Guseong anymore, I feel more comfortable with her dating Hae Jun in the future. I'm not a fan of executives with secretaries due to the power dynamics.

Ok, here's what I hope will happen so that Bak Ha can learn about the art show:

Geum Bak Ha should tell Na Hae Joon about the Singapore art show and her suspicion. Hae Joon will book a flight and hotel for them to go to the art show together in Singapore using Kang Jin Gu's invitation. Bak Ha will dress up for the art show like she did when she was the fake fiance. They share a hotel suite to keep up appearances. That engagement ring makes another appearance.

And I hope that enough time has passed that she's confronted her own feelings but not yet accepted his confession so that the trip is filled with romantic tension. And Hae Jun will be respectful about giving her space and agency on the trip even though he's already confessed (because that will make us and Bak Ha love him even more).

In the course of the two of them looking like a perfect couple, they'll uncover Mr. Son doing some shady af smuggling/embezzlement operation and Bak Ha will headbutt a bad guy while wearing an evening gown and diamonds. Hae Jun and Bak Ha will run off holding hands after uncovering enough evidence to set a trap for In Sook when they return to South Korea. (Hae Jun buys another stuffed animal for Yul Mu while in Singapore. He buys stuffed animals for Yul Mu during every business trip for the rest of his life. This is now fact.)

If the writers don't have them go to the Singaporean art show, what is the point?! Think of the product placement opportunities: jewelry, clothing, tourism, luggage, hotel chain, conference center, handbags, etc.

Judging from their experience, they are both right.

Na Hae Joon grew up constantly having to prove himself being capable and trustworthy in order for people to actually trust him. Being trusted unconditionally was a new experience to him. And when you live your life never knowing unconditional trust (love), you are extremely grateful to anyone who showed such compassion to you.

Geum Bak Ha on the other hand, has always been someone who trusts other people unless given the reason not to. It only made sense for her to say that Na Hae Joon shouldn’t be thanking her for trusting him in this case.

AND HONESTLY WHO WOULD’VE THUNK THAT NA HAE JUN WOULD BE SO..SO...SO SOFT FOR GEUM BAK HA LIKE THIS?! from the snooty “never show me your face again” to smiling giddily at the sight of her. from being all exasperated at Yeol Mu baby acting like all babies to having that PROUD smile on his face when that air-hostess said YeolMu looks just like his father i.e NA HAE JUN! HE HAS THAT FAMILY PICTURE TUCKED IN SAFELY IN HIS COAT SO THAT IT’S CLOSE TO HIS HEART. HE FREAKIN’ HANDMADE TENS OF CHITS JUST TO GET BAKHA THAT STROLLER FOR YEOLMU IN A WAY THAT WOULDN’T OFFEND HER.

THINGS THAT I NEVER IMAGINED WOULD HAPPEN HAVE HAPPENED AND NOW THAT THEY HAVE HAPPENED I AM ASDJKHASDKASD TRYING TO PROCESS IT.

LEGIT WHO WOULD’VE THOUGHT I’D BE THERE GOING CRAZY OVER A WEEKEND KDRAMA. WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO ME?!

OMG I can't with Na Hae Jun's sad face when Geum Bak Ha tells him that she doesn't want to see him any more because his mom has something to do with her late husband's death. It hurts my heart to see him so hurt and defeated.

It's really time she figures out her feelings for him like everyone else already has. I just want them to be happy!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! watch the first 2 eps full to get a feel of Geum Bak-Ha’s backstory with her husband and the rest you can skip. 

that’s what I’m doing. I skip all the scenes with the second leads (YIKES) and all the scenes with the old actors (MEGA YIKES!!!!!!!) I don’t skip the scenes with Oh In-Sook (Na Hae-Joon’s mom) when Na Hae-Joon’s in taling to her or when Geum Bak-Ha’s talking with her or she talks with the shady old guy but trust me you can skip all the rest!!!!!!! I i do that and understand everything. all the other scenes with the other actors feel like filler anyway. they don’t do anything and are boring af. 

so I only watch the scenes where Geum Bak-Ha or Na Hae-Joon are in it or are in a scene together and if they aren’t in a scene I’ll skip it like i don’t give a single fuck about those other characters lmaooooooooooooo

trust me Geum Bak-Ha and Na Hae-Joon are soooooooooo funny and cute and adorable and the way he tried to ignore her in the beginning kljshdfakjsdhflakjdsf I’M SCREAMING THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE I LOVE THEM HEART EYES WHENEVER THEY ARE TOGETHER
