Hey y'all. With the Writer's Guild of America on strike, you might be hearing a lot more about something called "residuals," which are payments that the writers get for the studios continuing to air their work on reruns and such. Already I'm seeing people trying to frame the union trying to bargain for better residuals as greedy and unreasonable, so I just wanted to give you guys a peek into my dad's full, 100% real residual payments for writing some of the most watched episodes of American late night television.

Yeah lol. If u hear anyone trying to frame the conversation around residuals as writers being greedy, please do me a favor and punch them straight in the face ❤️🙃🙃

After 146 days, the Writer's Strike has ended with a resounding success. Throughout constant attempts by the studios to threaten, gaslight, and otherwise divide the WGA, union members stood strong and kept fast in their demands. The result is a historic win guaranteeing not only pay increases and residual guarantees, but some of the first serious restrictions on the use of AI in a major industry.

This win is going to have a ripple effect not only throughout Hollywood but in all industries threatened by AI and wage reduction. Studio executives tried to insist that job replacement through AI is inevitable and wage increases for staff members is not financially viable. By refusing to give in for almost five long months, the writer's showed all of the US and frankly the world that that isn't true.

Organizing works. Unions work. Collective bargaining how we bring about a better future for ourselves and the next generation, and the WGA proved that today. Congratulations, Writer's Guild of America. #WGAstrong!!!

That comment claiming the NY times is burying this and not quoting the man is a lie. I just reblogged with screenshots showing otherwise. That person is spreading misinformation.

the commenter didnt say NYT times was burying it, just that NYT “did not mention” it, but youre right. ive seen so many news sources with Aaron’s statements included. some share more than others. Honestly what i think is more important is how almost all news sources ive seen call the genocide the “Israeli-Hamas War”. Its even called that in Aaron Bushnell’s wikipedia page. Its not a war is a genocide.

Variety writers, like the writers on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, have been particularly messed over by streaming. Their residuals are notoriously low, and a lot of their content is shown on platforms like YOUTUBE with little or no compensation. Also, the studios are trying to move them from weekly guarantees to a day rate. So protecting them is one major issue of the strike.

Aside from variety writers, we're all suffering from depressed earnings because streaming residuals are far too low and don't reflect the value we add to the companies. That's another big issue.

8 TV shows to get to know me

Supernatural- I can't escape. This is literally the first show I ever watched on Netflix once my family first got a streaming service in 2019 and now I'm insane. I love how fixated this fandom is on the behind the scenes of the show- childhood me would’ve eaten that up and I wish I discovered this earlier.

Fleabag- amazing show I have no notes

The Good Place- made me cry and laugh and I will always love it

Sherlock- Middle school me was insane for watching seasons 1-3 on dailymotion with a dark vignette always covering the screen to avoid copyright. I just really wanted to watch it lmaoo. Me and my dad bonded over this show because we both like the character and it made me read some of the original books. The meat knife quote and the rotisserie chicken wedding murder live in my mind rent free. Actually this show should probably be in 2nd place bc of how much I remember from it + it was the first tv show I watched all the way through.

Boys Over Flowers- the only k drama I've watched and it makes me laugh so hard. They don't make them like these anymore. So fun to watch with friends/family

Star Trek Original Series- I'm still in the middle of watching it but anyway if I wasn't so into spn I would probably be a full on trekkie

Fairy Tail- probably the first "fandom" I was involved in where I learned more about shipping. I watched way too many episodes of this as a 6th grader

Attack on Titan- I didn't even get past season 1 bc of the long hiatus but idk I feel like this show had a large impact on me. Especially in terms of getting me motivated to draw lol. And my cousins still facetime me in the middle of the night to keep me updated on it. Oh yeah and it made me buy my first fandom shirt from Hot Topic.

I spoke to my dad who's been on strike a few hours ago, and he said this is absolutely true. The studios were still hoping they could starve out the writers, and didn't expect the general public to be so strongly on the union's side still 5 months in.

He's lived through four WGA strikes, and he says the energy and solidarity he's seen both inside and outside the union has been far beyond what has ever been present before. The internet ate Drew Barrymore alive for scabbing, and within days the studios were back at the negotiating table giving in to almost every demand.

'Uh, no,' he shakes his head, forcing a smile. 'I need to go upstairs already, but you can finish in peace. I brought you some pie. You seem to like it a lot, and I noticed you didn't take your dessert.'

Dean's eyes flick to the other slaves, and he seems to be flustered. Castiel wonders if he did something wrong.

'Oh, t-thanks,' he stutters, but he does take the pie, so Castiel just nods, satisfied, and goes upstairs.

I present to you the latest written lines of Evil that Men do, starring (not yet full detective) Dean and (police Captain) Bobby Singer.

“You wanted to see me, sir?” Dean asked, peering over the door he just opened. He had no idea why the Captain asked for him, there was no hint of what was going on; and he had no idea if it was good or bad.

“Get in and shut the door, will ya? You’re letting the draft in.” Captain Singer grumbled, rummaging over the piles of papers that were on his desk. He seemed like the type of a person to hoard old books and everything that might contain information of any sort. His desk was littered with papers and files, but he normally seemed to know exactly where everything was. Ignoring Dean, the Captain continued to grumble and Dean had a feeling it was about good old Rufus again. “That damn idjit, thinking he can come in here and mess up my system, I should have him demoted down to the evidence locker…”

“Anything I can do to help?”

“Nah, just have a seat, I just gotta find the new file officer Turner dropped off.” Dean couldn’t help but chuckle as the Captain sneered, but when he moved the chair to do as ordered, he found it was currently occupied by a file folder. Picking it up, Dean offered it to the Captain. “This what you’re looking for, sir?”

“That slimy little… Gimme that!” Dean handed the file over, lifting his hands up in mock surrender, smiling, and the Captain scoffed at him then sat down and opened the file. Dean followed suit. He sat there and watched as the Captain skimmed the file, his frown deepening with every new page. When he came to the end, he sighed and flipped it closed before looking up at Dean.

“I know you got a lot on your plate with yer school and exams, but I was hoping you could help the Feds with this one? They've been after this drug dealer for a while and supposedly, he's moved to our town, but it's only speculation. Those idiots couldn't catch a field mouse if the damn thing presented itself for them," he grumbled as he handed Dean the file who immediately flipped it open.

"James Otis AKA Famine? Who names these people?"

"Beats me! Probably some young dimwit, sitting in his nice office, in his nice suit and thinking about spinning a good story. I don't know who is worse – those reporters who come up with these names, or the Feds who keep using them." Dean nodded, agreeing.

"Apparently, he is selling some new Japanese stuff that'll make you super addictive to it. CPH4, I think it's called."
