Many people could say things in a cutting way, Nanny knew. But Granny Weatherwax could listen in a cutting way. She could make something sound stupid just by hearing it.

Discworld AU where everything is the same except it's traditional for noble families to send their children to be educated at the Fools' Guild instead of the Assassins' Guild school

Behold! My Moist von Lipwig Cosplay from Comic Con today! I've worked so hard on this and it was an absolute delight to spend a day in Moist's (rather uncomfortable) shoes. 10/10 would recommend being a shiny little con/postman.
Also, I'd like to thank @vampirejuno for helping me write my prop letters (especially the one from Margolotta to Vetinari, which I will admit I kept for myself rather than handing it out to con-goers like the rest), @sybilvimes and @potato-lord-but-not for drawing such excellent Moists that helped me guide my rather haphazard creative decisions, and @lilprince for being so so nice at con when I was going into autistic overdrive over meeting my cosplay idol. Much love, and on to the next one 💕.

RE lrb . Vetinari working out a few years back, actually, now, that Vimes looks and acts and is just a little too much of that mysterious John Keel he had to trail for a week, that week the city boiled with change. Vetinari realising what Vimes is going to have to do. Vetinari seeing Vimes in the morning hale and hearty in full dress uniform and seeing him that evening naked and bloodied and with a scar and an eyepatch and fresh tear tracks and knowing. And he's not stupid, he knows that this doesn't negate the existence of a separate John Keel, cos of quantum, but this is here, and this is now, and Vimes is standing by his own grave trembling with the birth of his son only hours-fresh in his mind, and besides some loony monk sweeping the doorway of pseudopolis yard, he might be the only man in the world who knows what just happened

“He never forgot. He just put the memories away, like old silverware that you didn’t want to tarnish. And every year they came back, sharp and sparkling, and stabbed him in the heart.” ― Terry Pratchett, Night Watch

This is part of my ongoing Discworld jacket embroidery project. Of course Great A'Tuin has to be on there. And of course it has to be the biggest one of them all.
I'm going to put the finished product in my masterpost, but I'm so proud of the thing that I have to put it in an extra post beforehand. Enjoy!

It’s not a Discworld joke unless you read it, don’t parse it as a joke, and then carry on with your life for ten years until someone stops you to say something like “It’s a pavlovian response because the dog ate a pavlova” and you scream Terry’s name with enough indignant rage you hope it rattles the pillars of the multiverse so wherever his soul is he’ll hear it.

Today is March 12, sir Terry Pratchett Memorial Day, a day that is important for me to remember. This man, his books, helped me a lot in my childhood and are helping me up to this day. Therefore, every year I draw a lilac - this is a kind of a way to say "thank you" to a person who unfortunately will never hear it. But the world will hear his name once again, and a man is not dead while his name is still spoken.

Of course I love how Benoit Blanc is so shamelessly, fabulously, himself. How he’s gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide [GNU Terry Pratchett]. How he doesn’t hide that his brain is peculiar, for better or for worse. How he picks the cases he likes.
But I also love that in Glass Onion Rian Johnson shows us that Blanc can choose to be himself because he’s protected by his privilege of rich, upper-class, white man.
Which in turn leads me to notice how in both movies Blanc uses his privilege to protect a working-class woman and a Black woman, but he always refuses to be their saviour. He just creates the conditions in which they can choose to be themselves and save themselves—and punish their oppressors.
[Edit: A couple of people pointed out that Marta is actually white, even if the Thrombeys would probably disagree. I’d add that Helen isn’t exactly working-class, she’s simply less rich than the Disruptors shitheads. Anyway: I apologise—I’ve edited the post.]

He took another sip of his cocoa. It was only lukewarm now, but along with the cigar it meant that both his hands were occupied. That was important. He wasn't holding a weapon. No one could say afterwards that he had a weapon.
