OKAY OOF SORRY IF THIS GETS LONG

so the basic premise of the game (originally from 2010, they made a remastered version in 2021 and a sequel is coming out later this year! and theres also technically also a sequel? from i think 2012 but its apparently non-canon but anyways we dont dwell on american nightmare its fun in its own right but no way a deserving full sequel lol) is that a crime writer alan wake takes a little vacation with his wife in hopes of getting rest and trying to break his writers block of two years. they go to a small town thats ridden with a dark past as something dark and terrible lurks under the waters surrounding the town. eventually, alan loses his wife in a freak accident, driving him slightly mad so he ends up taken over by dark forces, making him write an evil manuscript where everything he writes comes true, in the most horrible dark way possible - cause the dark presence wants it that way, as i feeds from the death and horror of the script, making it stronger and more powerful so that it can one day finally manifest itself back in human form. in return of alan writing this thing, the darkness promises him his wife back alive

and alan breaks free of this curse before the manuscript is finished, giving him time to try to figure things out, how to save his wife and try to stop the darkness before it eats the entire town alive as it keeps growing stronger with each passing day, as he has written in the manuscript

the game basically follows the manuscript alan has written, you keep finding and collecting pages throughout the game, where sometimes they give you little glimpses to different characters, other times its events that have already happened or are still about to happen. the pages come in a random order so its just lovely bits and pieces of lore here and there which really gives emphasis on the story which i really like. its also written super well, as alan is a writer and the manuscript pages are his handiwork, so its all viewed through a very artistic lens which is just. fucking incredible and inspiring

the game itself is more action and exploration oriented than really just horror, but the darkness is definitely there as is the psychological aspect, which is really what drew me to the game the first time (plus its made by a finnish studio so obviously i have to support my locals lol). its really just an incredible story about love above all else, trust in the people around you and yourself and its just. its incredible i cant do this game justice by talking about it tbh lol

I got the idea for this picture yesterday and decided to paint straight thru until it was done. I’ve been struggling with rendering lately, and it felt good to let myself relax and have fun taking something to this level of detail. 

Style inspirations for this one include Chris Van Allsburg, René Magritte, and those baking recipe blogs that shoot all their photos in super low, moody lighting and leave twine and pinecones and powdered sugar scattered all over the table in every one.

rereading 17776 rn and noticing that Nine’s hesitance to accept their new reality is something I didn’t fully take in before. Like a majority of their concerns are all focused on the idea of purpose, which actually makes a lot of sense for them to solely be hooked on that specific concern. Nine was built with the intent of space exploration and to help humans achieve that goal. Being thrown into a reality where that purpose has essentially died and doesn’t really exist anymore would be very alarming for someone whose whole reason of existence is that specific thing. Nine’s arc of acceptance in existence so to speak. sorry I’m probably last to get to this but man it just hit me like a ton of bricks

He was like, a modern progressive Christian “I’m absolutely not gay but god loves gay people in a “you should stop being gay” kind of way :))” having a raised voice argument about homosexuality with Vasco, a gay atheist who he just met at like,,, idk maybe a church fundraising event? It seemed like Machete was taking it very personally and it was pretty intense. But my like,,, narrative dream brain definitely meant it as a meet cute 💕 ty for your time :)

Sometimes I see posts about how "I, Strahd" Tatyana has the personality of a cardboard but I don't think I agree honestly.

We only see her in very few scenes (all from Strahd's POV) and she's always very gentle and soft spoken.

Which makes completely sense since she was a lowborn orphan trying to make a good impression on her future brother in law, who is not only the ruler of the valley but also a feared war criminal. Of course she would try to be as nice as possible in front of him.

I also think that Strahd was extremely genuine in thinking he was in love with Tatyana, it's just that he never really knew her the way Sergei did. He only knew a facet.

You ever heard of My Friendly Neighborhood? Its another puppet horror game but its very cute and surprisingly wholesome!

i've watched a playthrough! it was cool! a very neat concept overall and well executed. very charming, very thorough, Highly enjoyable!

This scene in ACOFAS is iconic. ICONIC! This was such a respectful, kind thing to do Az did. Even though they’re a family and super informal, it re-iterated how much he does pay attention to Elain, her presence, her efforts to be part of the family. (ALSO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW THIS WAS SUCH A HUSBAND THING TO DO - yes one of my headcanons is that Elriel is going to get a human wedding LOL)!!

The fact that it was clear he meant, wait for Elain to sit before eating, the fact that nobody began eating till she served herself, the fact that after she said hello to him she excused herself to fix her hair and apron, the fact that at this dinner table, Az breaks the tension between Elain and Amren… it’s so fascinating and sweet to see how innately he seems to be aware of her feelings her thoughts. Even if he doesn’t know what she’s thinking, he always seems to be trying to understand. Which is more than can be said for most of the IC, at the moment.

And in this same scene, when Rhys tells Feyre that Az told everyone to wait because he’s sensitive to how women are treated because of his mom (which I fully do believe!!) but then doesn’t seem to be able to connect the dots that this moment is very much about Elain when Feyre very obviously pokes holes in his explanation… SIGH. Rhys unintentionally pulls the wool over what is obvious to Feyre.

Sometimes I feel as though Rhys misunderstands Az’s feelings for Elain as purely physical. Perhaps he doesn’t expect it, perhaps he doesn’t want to face that he is asking his brother not to pursue the person he loves for political reasons. As if Az hasn’t been emotionally tapped into Elain’s every emotion, laugh, helping her heal from her trauma, from the second she arrives in Velaris. How in the midst of everything he tried to be her FRIEND, he wanted to and did save her from Hybern, the necklace, the talking about her garden plans. How Az seems to care for Elain in a way where he ‘sees’ her. And it’s understood how important this is for Elain, (who is ironically now a Seer) - to be seen. She commented much earlier in ACOWAR, how Graysen ‘saw’ her when nobody else did. When Az comes for her in Hybern, she ‘devours’ the sight of him, even says the words ‘You came for me.’ I always found Az’s response to her words, a mere incline, cock of the head so.. telling. As if it was unfathomable that he wouldn’t come for her, as if he was implying that it made all the sense in the world for him to be there for her and get her home, unharmed and safe. He sees her, he notices her, puts her first, prioritises her, is as aware of her laughter as he is of her sadness.

And that is WHY it isn’t purely ‘physical.’ And I know that when Elain and Rhys comes to a head about everything (because let’s be honest, Elain is going to pop off at Rhys for interfering, albeit unintentionally, with her choice, and maybe even at Az if he doesn’t tell her). And Feyre and Nesta will be right behind her and things will work out because Az and Elain deserve to have a happy ending, just as much as everyone else in this damn story.

Honestly Jason Todd is real as fuck sometimes.

Like yeah, it does suck having the kind of PTSD that doesn’t make you sad, but makes you angry instead. So angry that your eyes cloud up, so angry that your throat burns. So angry that it’s hard to remember who you are anymore, who you were, if you even count as human anymore or just a rage-filled pustule which bubbled up one day on the small of humanity’s back. When you’re so angry that you can’t love anymore, that when you try to it does more harm than good.

To the point where you don’t know who you would be without it.

It also sucks when that illness becomes all you can think about, your excuse for everything. When you stop trying to change because it’s just a part of you.

That’s why I like him so much, I think. That’s why he’s in everything I write. Because I have to see him get better a thousand different ways, again and again and again. To reconcile how much I see myself in him.
