So anyway, Goots is prone to being pulled into the red world against his will, and it can happen any time and anywhere.

Sometimes he can tell when it's going to happen, and that feels like something trying to suck him backwards until he blinks, and when he blinks he's there. He often tries to prolong that by going as long as he can without blinking.

Other times, something will snap him there and it will be sudden, either it'll just happen, or he'll get scared, or he'll touch something that's reflected in the red, and he'll be there

That's why he always wears his key necklace, because if he doesn't have it, he's effectively stranded in the red world, because once he's there, he can't get back out again until he can find the Dead house and unlock its front door and step through it.

Goots' body stays in the physical world while this is happening and he can hear people talking to him, but it's like a very faint echo, and he can respond as well, just by speaking normally. This is very helpful to him because he can communicate what's happening and stay grounded.

He can also bring people to the red world with him, by touching them, or if they touch him, the only thing is that they aren't bound and can leave at any time, by not touching him anymore.

Eventually he learns how to control it better, and can occasionally switch into the red on his own free will.
