how the FUCK am I supposed to change the lightbulbs on the twenty-foot ceilings in this apartment????

ALL of the overhead lights in this apartment are like this. (there are a handful of hanging lights that I can change myself.) I understand that there's some kind of grippy lightbulb changer suction cup or basket on a pole you can get at Lowe's or Amazon but a lot of these lights aren't normally recessed, they're beneath covers. And a lot of them are already burned out. (I can also tell that several have normal bulbs behind the cover, which means they were replaced before with the wrong kind of lightbulbs -- the one in the laundry room has two regular bulbs, one burned out, and there's literally no way I can get at it. I'm not climbing on a sixteen-foot ladder, I will die.)

*dubiously* I guess this is what handymen are for. (I mean, in a college town I'm sure I can always hire an enterprising college student to do various things, but perhaps not for the lights. I'm sure one of them would buy my excess mattress, though.)

I'd honestly be willing to try the lightbulb changer on a pole, but I'm not sure I can physically manage it with all of these lights, and the ones behind covers (which includes both bathrooms and the laundry room) I definitely can't. Also I guess I'll send another plaintive text to my property manager. (I am still trying to figure out where trash goes.)

this is a recently renovated apartment, but it is immediately evident to me that the reno was designed by (a) a man who was (b) COMICALLY taller than me (not hard, I'm 5'2.5"), (c) probably left-handed, and (d) didn't actually cook much despite the nice kitchen. (I do have SUBSTANTIALLY more counter space than in the Decatur house, but it would actually be difficult not to have more counter space than in that house -- I dealt with it by having a kitchen cart.)

on the other hand, there are FIVE MILLION outlets in this apartment. so it has that going for it. literally, from where I am sitting in the not-quite-open plan kitchen/dining/living room I can see thirteen outlets and I know there are two more in the office nook (built-in desk!). on the third hand it is a second-story walk-up and if I'd known the stair situation I'm not sure I would have rented it. (I had a video tour but didn't realize the stair situation until I got here.) probably the restaurant below also has twenty-foot ceilings.

this is the kind of apartment that would be a few grand in a city (I looked up the rent for an equivalent apartment in Decatur and it was $3-5K a month), but this is small town South Dakota, so while it's more expensive than my duplex in Decatur, it's not actually that much more expensive, especially considering that it's larger, new appliances, washer/dryer, 2 full bathrooms, and parking. also I wanted an apartment that made me feel like a Real Adult Professor and not a graduate student, especially if I had to live in rural South Dakota. (As I have bitched about endlessly, I didn't want to leave Atlanta and I didn't want to leave the Deep South; I'm one of the people who actually wants to live in the South (apparently rare? at least of people I know at my previous institution who were all like 'I don't know how I ended up here') and I do expect to go back on the market in an attempt to move back, TT job or not, unless I absolutely fall in love with this school/town. though if I absolutely hate living here, I can move to one of the nearby cities and commute (there's one half an hour away over the state line, and one an hour away in the same state). but like, I wanted to stay in the South and the universe said the best it could do was South Dakota.

but also jesus. this light situation makes me nervous. I do own floor lamps (because the Decatur house actually had terrible lighting), but come on, man. also I haven't yet found where I packed the cover for one of the floor lamps. I also can't find the bulbs for my regular non-floor lamps. found the bulbs for one of my floor lamps because they take E12 chandelier bulbs and they were packed in one of my 'random things' boxes. I will be unpacking for...a while.

Or he'll go to an amusement park like Tropical land with you if he wants something more grand. ~ Asks Ran on what to give you for valentine's since she seems to be the fastest solution, but ends up discussing for 3 hours since he's kind of picky about her ideas. Not that he dislikes it, he just wants the best for you. ~ If you are staying in his house for the night he'll try to make you breakfast in bed, but his cooking skills is not really helping him so in the end, he made you a mug of coffee and some toasts much to his disappointment. ~ When he receives your valentine's gift he is just the cutest, He's trying his best to remain composed but he can't hide his little blush, he might seem hesitant to take your gift but it's just because he's not sure if it really was for him. ~ If you two are not dating yet, one of the ways he may confessed to you is by giving you a book you've been wanting before you go home, and in that book is a confession letter he wrote painstakingly attached on the first chapter. The gifts he might give you include: 》 A book you've been wanting. 》 A pack of your favorite coffee/drink. 》 Night lamp. 》 Tiny box of coffee flavored chocolate.

~ Let's be honest, you two will either relax and slack off at home snuggling each other, or just straight up go on a trip to anywhere you two are feeling like going(if you two are free). ~ He called Shinichi to ask about what to do for valentine's day, but he got suggested to ask Kazuha instead and Shinichi hanged up before he could say anything, so he argue discuss valentine's plans with Kazuha since she's the only female friend he have. ~ If you two are free and not tired, he'll offer you if you want to go around Osaka with his motorcycle, and go on a stroll to search for some street foods that might catch you and Heiji's eyes. ~ He will look at you with eyes wide like saucers, and a dumbfounded look on his face when he receive your valentine's gift. Even though it's so obvious, he has the audacity to ask if it's for him while pointing at himself. ~ One of his confession methods is a rather cliché one. He'll spend almost the whole day with you and before it gets dark, he'll take you to a quiet and peaceful place, or where you two first met, and tell you his feelings with his own mouth, word by word. The kind of gifts you can possibly get from him include: 》 Cap of your favorite baseball team to match with him. 》 Sweater/Jacket so you won't get cold since you often go out with him. 》 A "normal" box of chocolate that has random flavors(like Bertie Bott's) 》 A funny card game like joking hazard for you and him to mess around.

~ This man is a handful, the moment valentine starts your day is gonna be filled with even more surprises, compliments and flirty remarks than you ever had usually(which is 24/7). ~ Another man who argues with his only female fellow about valentine ideas, but instead of being picky like Shinichi, it was Aoko who rejects his ideas since they're too bizarre. Either way he ignores her in the end and goes to execute his ideas. ~ He will make his daily magic tricks that he shows you more romantic focused, and sometimes will be followed by a smooth pick up line or a very bad but somehow still romantic dad joke. ~ When he receives your valentine's gift he'll still put his calm elegant act, saying he's flattered and he appreciates your effort, but to say he's ecstatic and giddy on the inside is an understatement. ~ One of his confession method is by sending you anonymous poems and a love confession beforehand, and then revealing himself. He might seem calm, but if you pay enough attention you might see the slight flush that resides at the tip of his ears as he reveals himself to you. I wrapped up the main story with just two million studs, so yeah, I’ve got a mountain of blue bricks left to chase. But LEGO games are all about replaying, so I’m not stressing. Do or do not, right? Now, let’s talk about the UI. It’s had a major glow-up from what you’re used to in older LEGO games. I gotta say, it was a bit of a hassle at first. With so much content jam-packed into The Skywalker Saga, finding a single character or ship can get overwhelming. They’ve split everything into categories like Hero, Jedi, Dark Side, Astromech Droid, Protocol Droid, etc. It’s cool that there’s so much to explore, but it can be a bit much when you’re just starting out. Epic Time Sink for Platinum in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

There’s this kinda weird moment in The Rise of Skywalker that’s not just about the story or character choices. There’s a part where Rey pilots a Skimmer over to the Death Star wreckage across the water, and it’s kinda odd. Water’s never been a big deal in LEGO games, and here, we’re steering the Skimmer with zero HUD, no water effects, and basically just silence. It’s over in seconds and feels kinda pointless—might’ve been better as a follow-up to the previous cutscene. It’s a small thing, but it really stuck out. The game does have its quirks. Some fans might grumble about how fast it zooms through each film. Since these games are aimed at a wide audience, they’re still pretty easy to blaze through, and you might be shocked at how quickly you can wrap up all nine movies on your first run. But that’s not really a complaint when there’s a massive collectathon waiting for you. Exploring every planet for every brick, stud, and character is gonna eat up a lot of your time, so get ready and buckle up. I’m hyped to dive into this for the next few weeks (or months?) chasing that Platinum trophy. No rush, though.

Unpopular opinion: I thoroughly enjoyed HZGG3 as a kid , watched this front to back on VHS 2003-2004 from basically because it was one of the last VHS dramas we had. TT – Temperament Tested TC – Temperament Certified AOE – Award of Excellence-A dog must meet qualifications in conformation, obedience, and also be OFA´d to earn this award. New competitions are being added and rules for competitions change, for the most up to date rules and regulations, check with the AKC and the DPCA. Miscellaneous American titles often seen on pedigrees and in advertising. BIS – Best in Show at an All-Breed Show in conformation. BISS – Best in Show Specialty (where only dogs of the same breed are competing in conformation) BOB – Best of Breed BOS – Best Opposite Sex BOW – Best of Winners (best between Winners Dog and Winners Bitch in breed conformation class competition) WD – Winners Dog – the winning dog overall of the regular classes of his sex. WB – Winners Bitch – the winning bitch overall of the regular classes of her sex. RWD/RWB – Runner up to the winners dog and bitch, if the winner becomes ineligible for the award then the runner up will receive the points awarded from that show. Special – A dog that is already a Champion that is competing for Best of Breed only. A Champion cannot compete in the classes where points are earned (because a Champion has already earned them!) RTD – Registered Therapy Dog TD I- Dog has passed Therapy Dog International´s testing HEALTH CERTIFICATIONS OVC – Ontario Veterinary College OVC Hip Certification – A dog may be preliminary screened at a younger age, but will not receive a certification unless the dog is at least 18 months old. It was told to me by a tech in the radiology department of OVC that they consider hips to either be bad, in which case they are rated on a scale from 0 – 4, with 4 being the worse, or they are “good” in which case the animal will receive a certification number (if 18 months or older. Therefore they do not follow the U.S. rating system which includes “FAIR”, Good, Excellent”. Their exact words were “the hips are either GOOD or they are NOT. OFA – Orthopedic Foundation for Animals OFA Hip Certifications – dogs within a specified range of normal hip x-rays are certified OFA-Excellent, Good, or Fair OFA – Elbow Certification – Certified by OFA for normal elbows on x-ray, only one grade recognized as normal. Check with OFA for proper procedures and positioning for hip and elbow x-rays. A dog may be preliminary screened at a younger age, but will not receive a certification unless the dog is at least 24 months old. OFA is also now doing certifications for other canine health concerns such as normal thyroid levels, check with OFA for accurate data and rules concerning these. CERF – Canine Eye Registry Foundation-dog is certified to have normal eyes. Re-certification must be done annually. vWD – Von Willebrands Disease free-meaning the dog has been tested and found free of vWD, a bleeding disorder, vWD free ratings also are often given with a percentage listed. Star-studded Line-up For Motorcycle Plus Show

Four of the most talented racers will be joining the packed line-up for the Motorcycle Plus show at Eikon Centre, Lisburn on February 4-5, 2023. Organisers, 360 Events, today announced that BSB Superstock Champion and North West 200 winner, Richard Cooper as well as multiple TT winner, and Ulster Grand Prix superstock lap record holder, Dean Harrison will be over from England for the event, along with former World Grand Prix 250 winner, North West 200 and Daytona winner Jeremy McWilliams, and British Superbike Championship rider, Korie McGreavey who are all set to appear. Kenny Gardner, of 360 Events, said they were delighted to have so many top riders appear. “Northern Ireland has produced so many talented competitors in all aspects of motorcycle racing,” he said. “To be able to welcome, Richard, Dean, Jeremy and Korie is another exciting bonus at an already packed weekend.” Kenny explained the Motorcycle Plus Show has been specifically designed for motorsports enthusiasts. “Primarily, we will be using the show to showcase all forms of motorsport and motorcycling, if it has an engine and wheels, we intend it to be there,” he said. “Attractions will also include rider appearances, interviews, Q&A sessions, and not just established stars, but also up and coming riders from on and off-road disciplines who will become household names in the future. “As an innovation, there will be advice from experts on securing and keeping sponsors, Social Media use and lifestyle advice which will be useful for young competitors from all disciplines. “This is in line with our stated aim of helping to establish a Motorsport Academy for all forms of motorsport to make sure our rising stars get the best advice and guidance possible on their career path. “Race Teams will be there with their 2023 line-ups, both on and off road, 2023 street bike models, accessories, gear, and lots more so plenty for everyone to see and do. “Governing bodies will be in attendance with advice and guidance on their various Championships, how to start racing and competing, and of course officiating and marshalling, as well as various Clubs promoting their own events, alongside trade and dealer stands.” Previously the show was held for a number of years under different guises starting with the Enkalon Club in the Antrim Forum and finally with Nutt Promotions in the Eikon Centre in 2019. The Motorcycle Plus Show will take place at Eikon Centre in Lisburn on February 4-5, 2023.
