Downtown Vancouver (No. 12)
Vogue Theatre is an Art Deco/Art Moderne styled building originally built as a movie house, and currently used as an event venue for the performing arts. Situated on Vancouver’s “Theatre Row", the building was designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1993.
The Vogue Theatre is an example of Art Deco or Moderne architecture. The Vogue has been a National Historic Site of Canada since it was officially recognized by the federal government on November 20, 1993, under the Historic Sites and Monuments Act.[1] The interiors of the building are not officially protected. The Vogue is also a City of Vancouver heritage "A" building.
The Vogue Theatre is crafted in the Art Deco style, emphasizing sleek lines and fluid contours. It has symmetrical façades, constructed in a mixture of textured concrete and terrazzo panels with wrought-iron screens. One of the defining features of Vogue is its large neon sign which is topped by silhouette of the Roman Goddess Diana.

Commodore Ballroom is a music venue, dance floor and nightclub located on 800 block of Granville Street in Vancouver, British Columbia. It is regarded as Canada's most influential nightclub, and one of North America's best live music venues. The building was built in the Art Deco style of the late 1920s by George Conrad Reifel and designed by architect H.H. Gillingham. Best known for showcasing special performances, the venue is also known for its sprung dance floor, whose horsehair lining absorbs, rather than reflecting back, some of the impact of dancers' feet. At the time it was installed, only a few venues in the world had similar floors.

The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe x Pacific Theatre x South Granville. (via Emily Cooper)
Playwright Ron Reed's well-loved minimalist interpretation of C.S. Lewis' 1950 magical portal fantasy tale of Narnia efficiently runs through its layered source material in an impressively stripped-down two-hander with only a pair of actors portraying all the roles in an alleyway theatre setup. There's no shortage of magic or whimsy as all the stage elements come together to transport us away into a mythical world of childlike wonderment reflecting its traditional biblical Christian ideals.
Cast: John Voth (as Peter) and Rebecca DeBoer (as Lucy).
Running live on stage until Dec. 23.

Helianthus annuus (common sunflower)
As thousands of commuters drive to work for an 8 o'clock start, little do they realize that under the overpass, Mother Nature has been on the job since sunrise (5:45 AM). These poor worker bees won't officially "clock-off" until sunset (10 PM). That's an 18 hour shift. Yikes!
Queen bees are obviously very hard bosses and I think these worker bees need a better contract. Is there a union organizer in the audience?

Vancouver Seawall (No. 1)
The Granville Street Bridge or Granville Bridge is an eight-lane fixed cantilever/truss bridge in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, carrying Granville Street between Downtown Vancouver southwest and the Fairview neighborhood. It spans False Creek and is 27.4 m (90 ft) above Granville Island. The bridge is part of Highway 99.
On February 4, 1954, the current Granville Street Bridge opened to traffic after five years of planning and construction; its dedication ceremony was attended by 5,000 spectators after it had been delayed a week due to heavy snow. The Vancouver Sun arranged for the first driver across the 1909 bridge, Sidney Annoot, to repeat her feat in 1954 The city government self-funded the bridge project, which cost $16.5 million (equivalent to $166 million in 2021 dollars), with "no formal assistance given by any other government body" according to mayor Frederick Hume. A million vehicles crossed over the bridge in its first month.
The eight-lane structure was constructed from 1951 to 1954 on the same alignment as the first bridge while steel plate girders salvaged from the second bridge made barges for constructing the foundations of the Oak Street Bridge. Initially only four lanes were open to traffic until the completion of the loop ramps on the north side on July 16. The bridge's wide design was meant to accommodate a future freeway that would serve downtown; those plans were cancelled in the 1960s.
Recent improvements to the bridge include increasing its earthquake resistance, and installing higher curbs and median barriers.
