This is a Street Artist AU I-- basically adopted from @starrspice (thank you, lovelyy!!) This is a post-fire AU where the DCA escapes the fire themselves and into the city. They're stripped of the proper prompts and triggers for their childcare and entertainment programming, but are able to find something their coding can latch onto: a group of children who need entertainment. They modified their performance and entertainment programming with their arts and crafts protocols to create art as a performance!

More details (so many details-- I went off xDD) and designs of the AU, of which I've titled "City Lights and Paint Water", under the cut :3c

They're pretty beat-up from the fire, and without proper access to maintenance, they've retained the burn marks, splattered paint, and other grime associated with being outdoors. Over the months as street artists, passersby donate their old paints and other supplies, hence the oversized trousers and worn apron! (P.S.: cloth placement is more accurate in the magma doodles)

Sun and Moon each have preferred mediums and styles!

Sun prefers acrylic paints and spray paint, his paintings a controlled chaos with loud, scattered colors, large brushstrokes, and splatters. His paintings always have a lot of movement due to his freeform painting style, splattering paint and getting a laugh from the kids.

Moon like to work with watercolors and colored pencil, the colors more muted with small pops of brighter colors (such as lights within windows). He likes to capture the lights of the streets, wondering what the true night sky looks like, his art giving a soft and ethereal mood.

Then we have our Main Character (MC), the viewer/reader! They're a graphic designer for a big corporate tech company, tasked with making pamphlets, brochures, posters, et cetera for the company. Though they do good work as a graphic designer, their true passion is fine arts, but their work isn't taken seriously due to its "childish" appearance despite the real-life deeper meanings. In the meantime, they create for themself, crafting and making trinkets for their apartment. They even make some of their own clothes, made up of several different garments to make something one-of-a-kind. Their outfits are fairly chaotic, typically accompanied by a hair accessory, but the patterns and colors compliment each other well.

MC grew up in a rural area, and still love the open and free areas it provides, but they had to move to an urban city for work and better opportunities. It's a big step up from their small town, overwhelmed by the activity. At the start of the story, they feel disconnected from their work, drained by the cookie-cutter bland work of their graphic designer job, but it's the only way they can reliably earn income.

The story starts with Sun spotting MC beyond the crowd, rushing somewhere. He continues to see them in the distance, unable to approach them due to their haste. He's mesmerized by their appearance, drawn to their creative expression just in their outfit. Moon catches a few glances of MC in the evenings, but doesn't have the same draw to them as Sun, figuring them as just another "everyman" in the crowd. One day, in MC's haste, they lose a paper from their portfolio. When Sun catches it, he sees a presentation sheet of several different designs meant for a business card or a t-shirt emblem. Sun is astounded by them, making MC more interesting than they already were.

It's not until about a week later that Sun takes an opportunity to return the paper and give his compliments. When he does this, however, MC's face falls before forcing a polite smile, thanking him. Before Sun could say anything more, they're gone.

There's so many small moments I'd like to explore, but that's the set-up :3cc I nearly have chapter one (1) completed, two (2) chapters after that already planned. The chapter length is pretty short right now, but I don't know if I wanna beef them up or keep them at this shorter length. We'll see! :D

the ideal ref folder has : face closeups, in side profile, front, 3/4, (faceclaim is very helpful if there is any) same for the body, ref sheet or at least a good indication of the character's body type, body language, and style. same with clothes. and a .txt file where you write your idea + where are some specific details like their scars, or facial hair, birthmarks etc, and any info you think might be relevant<3 and a clear pose reference if possible

once i start the commission, i'll kinda disappear for a week or more, then come back with w.i.ps, i will ask you if there's anything you want to change

sometimes it can take a lot longer than planned and sometimes it can be quick.... you just can never know, so just be prepared for that eventuality.

Navigating Through Space: Personal and Cosmic Updates

Hello my Stellar Supporters,

I hope this message finds you well, or at least, stargazing into the heavens with hope and curiosity. It's been a while since we last touched base, and I want to address this prolonged silence.

Over the last few months, my journey has taken a detour through a darker part of the cosmos. I've been grappling with depression, which has created a cloud of cosmic dust that's made it difficult to see the stars, let alone draw them. My mental health has always been a nebulous territory, and the gravitational pull got a bit stronger after I was laid off in November 2022. This event was like a supernova explosion, adding more confusion and gloom to my personal galaxy.

However, just as the Universe never ceases its inexorable expansion, I've been taking steps towards recovery, navigating my way out of this nebula. It's been a slow, incremental journey, but I've decided to redirect this energy into a new mission: a return to the academic world.

Yes, you've read that right. I've embarked on a course to acquire my Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Design and Media Arts, with a specific focus on Web Design. This decision, which has the weight of a pulsar, came from a profound realization: to reignite my passion for exploring and creating, I needed a new kind of star map, one drawn from the insights and challenges of academic pursuit.

So, what does this mean for our beloved cosmic ship, Cosmic Funnies?

Our shared adventure into the realm of humor and cosmic wonders is evolving! Like a nebula birthing a star, Cosmic Funnies is transforming into an exciting new entity: an educational platform dedicated to space and the wonders it holds.

But don't worry! Just like dark matter binds galaxies together, humor and fun will still be the heart of Cosmic Funnies. Our beloved webcomics will be more integrated and central than ever as a part of the educational content. This decision, an outcome of my UI UX Design class, aims to combine learning and laughter in the best possible way.

In this new universe of Cosmic Funnies, students, educators, and space enthusiasts can gather to explore, laugh, and learn. Together, we will make learning about space a truly immersive and enjoyable experience.

For all you cosmic shoppers, our online store will continue to operate but will set up its own celestial body, separate from the main site. The primary mission of Cosmic Funnies will always be to educate, inspire, and bring a smile to your face with the beauty and mystery of our universe.

So I was tryna figure out: how would the Younique staff fit into my little story?? Several of the characters have pretty cute looks, I didn’t wanna throw em away or make them terfs

well, solution!! For at least a couple of em, anyway.

reminder that TERFs literally CANNOT ALWAYS TELL that people are trans… they are so often wrong it is comical. A TERF bar could more than likely let in trans women without knowing or batting an eye… in my rewrite, Younique only profiled Ginger, Cherish, and Kaiya because they were so open and proud. Often why TERFs pick us trans folk out to begin with!! If you’re too proud, too open, too showy, they’ll try to take ya down. It sucks, but it’s why I’m so proud to be me. I’m so proud of my transgender siblings, because everyday we face the worst from society, and here we are, still standing.

I did change up Shanzay and Parniya’s styles quite abit… god, you can tell that there’s only *one* kind of lesbian Rusty thinks should exist. The diversity of women is a beautiful thing, and I wanted to show just how differently these two butch lesbians can present themselves, because there is more than one type of butch lesbian. (RUSTY.) People should dress how they’re comfortable, however the amount of characters were supposed to like who have the exact, plain style bothers me. People look different, even those within the same subcultures and similar presentations. I want to highlight that!!

Anyway, on to the character bios!!

Shanzay Binti Meriam!! Malaysian-Australian She/They, Transfeminine lesbian

Shanzay used to go to Younique with her girlfriend Parniya regularly, speaking with other regulars who took no issue with their trans identities. Shanzay is a confident woman who runs women’s martial arts classes with her girlfriend and her mother, Meriam. Unfortunately, after learning of the hateful incident at Younique regarding the GAP gang, Shanzay, Parniya, and several other regulars were horrified to learn of the hateful nature of a staff member of Younique. They took the issue to the owner, only to learn that this is standard behavior for the staff, and that a large majority of the staff are loud and proud transphobes. Shanzay and Parniya felt completely horrified that their less cis passing sisters went through this, not to mention that they had given their patronage to such a hateful business. They rallied many Younique regulars to take their leave, and to give their support to the GAP gang, giving their money to the PayPlease fund that would eventually help the girls open up GAP, their trans friendly nightclub. Shanzay now works for GAP as a bouncer, and is good friends with Kaiya particularly, bonding over their shared pride and love for their families.

Parniya Amira Gallus!! Iranian-Australian She/her, Transfeminine intersex lesbian

Standing at nearly 6’8, being transgender and intersex, and suffering from chemical burns at a young age, Parniya is not a very average looking woman. She is very quiet and mellow, and doesn’t wish to draw much attention to herself. Because of her wallflower nature, it’s no shock that the transphobic staff of Younique looked right past her and her girlfriend Shanzay whenever they walked in. Parniya identifies as a butch lesbian, though she still embraces her feminine side often. After finding out about Younique’s transphobia against the GAP gang, Parniya was particularly shaken. Even after rallying other regulars to leave with her and Shanzay, Parniya doesn’t go out nearly as often anymore. She wears much more makeup now, perhaps in an attempt to pass more, like she believes she will run into Younique staff again. Parniya does remote graphic design for GAP, and as a result is well acquainted with Theodosia, and has quickly become good friends with her. They bond over a shared love of old princess stories, as well as their passion for art and other women.

Anyway here's my design for the one and only Magnifico Giganticus ✨

(Some design choices and symbolism rant under the cut, feel free to skip)

Ahhh, Magnifico, Magnifico... What can I say? He may not be my specific cup of tea, but I can definitely see where the appeal comes from.

If anything, I can thank Asimov for making him so distinguished in Foundation and Empire because I started drawing with a clear idea in my mind: make him as jester-y as possible.

I tried various outfits on him but all the trousers option didn't seem right on him, so I stuck with a pre-modern-like vest with added collar, belt, undervest and stockings. And, just in case you're wondering: yes, he's meant to have pointy shoes too.

This obviously meant a split design, which fits him like a glove: sure, he's the man who upset the Universe and broke the Seldon plan, he's a mutant wuth powers unheard of, he has ruled to Galaxy for as much as he could... but he's also a reject, someone with a frail body and that, after all, wanted nothing more than to be loved genuinely (and I guess that it doesn't necessarily romantic love... more like charity, iykyk).

This is also reflected in the sun/moon dichotomy I've tried to incorporate in his clothes: namely, the sun on his hat and the hem of his vest, but also the moon-shaped collar and the star pattern on the blue fabric (because after all we're in a Galaxy).

Also thanks to @the-l-spacer for pointing out he has a symbol -a planet being split in two by lightning- that I added at the end of his hat. It fits him but not the goal of his plan: guess graphic design isn't his passion (cit.).

Physically speaking, I guess I leaned more on his *sad* aspects: I really wanted him to look frail, hence I've tried to make his as thin as possible and gave him a long face to match his long nose, plus I gave him downturned eyes to make him look even more sad.

As for the short hair, I admit I just vibe with it more.

Last but not least, the yellow rose he's holding represents Bayta and the platonic feelings she had for him.

This shitty meter here is just for a bit of transparency (Graphic design is NOT my passion), cuz people like to know where there money is going. This will fill up as with funds from my patreon (money I got this month is already there!), from commissions, and from any tips/extras given by kind souls in passing, and I need to hit these marks EVERY month for like… a year. (This is after fees and such of course, cuz god forbid we don't pay the middle-men their dues.)

A bit of info for each section under the Readmore:

-Rent and Bills: The Most Important thing to Keep Verzi Kickin'! I pay half my apartment's now $1368 rent PLUS the utilities, which range from 100~200 bucks, splitting with my aunt who works 2 jobs to make sure she pays her half. Since my mom passed away from Pancreatic cancer in 2021, this has been rough since it used to be split 3 ways.

-Dental Costs: The face bone doctors want my money after drilling holes and pulling out the insides!! My face actually feels BETTER so i'm not as mad as I COULD be about this, but this needs to be paid for the next 12 months. (And they want MORE money to do a cleaning and I almost laughed. Like, no buddy you ain't getting 750 out of me when I don't even have a refrigerator.(See Below))

-Big Purchase+Credit Card bills: It wont pay off ALL my credit card debt, but it keeps me from falling behind. Since the passing of Michael and Fred (my microwave and refrigerator respectively) I need to make some big purchases so my kitchen functions. Michael has been successfully replaced by Mikaela, and we are still looking for Fred's replacement. Ms. Frida, the chest freezer who is literally older than I am (I am 33!!) and STILL functions is holding down the fort while we look for a refrigerator. We can live without a fridge thanks to her constant service, allowing us to keep frozens. Also, like, literally on the 30th of July, Monty the Monitor must've succumbed to heatstroke so i had to buy one of THOSE too for my computer setup. I will name all my appliances to cope.

-Extra+Taxes: Once we get here, I'm in the clear for the month's expenses! However!! Taxes are due in October. I DO NOT know how much that will be, and since the whole Covid relief thing that lessened business taxes ended last year, I MAY be paying for quite a bit!! Anything past this point will be prepping for Taxes AND forming a buffer for More Happenings (God forbid).

I considered a Drive like other kink artists in these circles, but I don't like drives for several reasons and those reasons are why I've never done one in the past. Despite that, I STILL want to do something that at least feels like a reward or incentive for people keeping me Alive™, so I'm going to do some simple doodles/sketches, and possibly try to stream those doodles in my discord!

Every 100 bucks past the "Rent and Bills Paid" section (meaning at 900 dollars and onward), I will do a RANDOM drawing from any requests/suggestions from the pool made by people who threw some cash monies my way!

Suggestions can be sent in through Ko-fi messages, Paypal notes accompanying payments/donations/tips, and a Patreon-only post (they are always giving me money, so patrons have access by default!). Commissioners who send in the form can ALSO suggest something for the pool if they like! (there's a question on the form for it) Now, like all requests, it's ultimately up to my discretion on whether or not I will draw something, but I will still try to keep it random and let it be a roll of the dice (or a RNG app).

There is no minimum requirement either! So people throwing only $1 at me, buying only one Ko-fi, or dropping anything bigger are free to offer a suggestion. But please limit requests/suggestions to one entry per person.

Now, as to what these will and can be:

-It will be a simple lined sketch with one color or flat colors. Depends on how many need doing, how I'm feeling when I draw it and how complicated it is.

-It can be up to 2 characters, but they may be less refined compared to a single character one. They can be the same character in 2 different states, or 2 different characters interacting with each other.

-No private requests please! It will have to be something that can be publicly posted and that you're fine with being perceived by others.

-In terms of kinks/sizes/etc, it will be something that you'd normally see on this blog or for my work! Mileage may vary, but more extreme stuff that I'd normally avoid may be glossed over when I'm constructing the pools.

-Unlike commissions, these will not go through a WIP stage/be modified after the fact! They end up how they end up. If you wanna be nitpicky, please use this opportunity to order a full commission!

-You're allowed to suggest OCs as long as it's yours or its owner has given permission to draw them in the context I am known to put boys in!

Hello, first of all, I’m really sorry for bothering you with this. I’m a person who other people consider an artist. I’ve made things all of my life with whatever tools I could get my hands on. My family was too poor to afford paper and pencils so I burned wood engravings with magnifying glasses. My handwriting is tiny and precise because I loved writing but had to squeeze every inch of space out of a page. Over the years I’ve done a lot of other things that caught my interest, including sculpture, 3D modeling, modding, making dolls, decoupage, graphic design, oils, watercolor, lots of stuff. I won awards, got into some magazines. People paid unreasonable amounts for my stuff. I even spent two years in college majoring in drawing and painting before admitting to myself that I hated the process and though I had some technical skill, I wasn’t a real artist and didn’t have the inspired creative spark real artists had. I was okay with that; I don’t want to express myself.  I’ve always made things because I wanted to learn things and see something I wouldn’t have been able to see otherwise. 

I’ve always thought of myself as someone respectful of artists. I’ve spent so much on commissions that I don't have a savings account. I’ve always paid artists as well as I can afford and sometimes more if I thought their rates were low or if I knew they were putting extra work in on a piece. I’ve also bought a lot of fan made merch. Almost a thousand of that has been on prints you’ve made. I love your art.

I’ve been passionate about text and art AI for years. At first I was excited when the public became aware of my hobby and I thought that I’d finally be able to talk about it with people. Except, it turned out that everyone hates this thing I’m passionate about and would hate me if they knew I used it. I’ve had to hide it and keep it bottled up inside, away from the people I want to share it with. Everywhere I look, I see words like AI bro and AI clown and lazy and that people like me should just die.

I’ve heard all of the arguments for and against it. I do get why people are scared and discouraged and feel like they’ve had something taken from them. But I also know that I can't stop loving AI. I can't stop making things and learning new skills in things that interest me. That’s who I am. If I know anything about myself, it’s that.

I have one enormous print of yours of Aziraphale hanging over my bed. It has given me so much happiness for the past two years. I’ve felt love and beauty when I look at it. It’s been a source of comfort and joy. Having grown up lesbian in a religious household that thought I needed an exorcism, there’s something about seeing him turn his face away from God that resonates.

It’s been eating me up inside for weeks because every time I look at the picture above my bed, I don’t see Aziraphale any more. I don’t feel that love. I can only think about the person behind it that I respect and how they’ve said I should die, and the community behind them that I want to be part of but would hate me.

Am I the bad guy? The pain feels like a festering boil that needs to be lanced, so I guess I’d like to hear you say that what I’m doing is unforgivable so that I can take the picture down, grieve and move on. I know that's a lot for a stranger to ask of you. It's probably messed up that I'm even bringing this to you. I'm sorry.

Hiya. Thank you for messaging me. first I'd just like to say I don't think anyone should actually die. I know I say AI folks should die but it's something that I don't actually mean or want, I'm just angry. I don't like being told to "adapt or die". I don't appreciate AI folks saying I should "get on with the times and use the AI". I don't appreciate being told to "learn a new skill" by people who by all accounts have none themselves. I don't appreciate being told to "go work at McDonald's bozo". Being told to "get a real job". These are the things said to me personally, not just to artists in general.

Have you seen the vile things artists are being told by the AI tech bros? How we are being treated? They call us "drawslaves", "paint pigs", but at same time we're the "elite" keeping the poor masses away from their god given right to be able to make art without putting any effort into it.

We have every right to be angry and I'm really sorry me saying they should die has hurt you. I'm hurting too. I haven't been in the best place mentally and I won't go into details but this whole AI thing has only made it worse.

I don't think artists are just scared or discouraged, they're angry because their art is being stolen by this thing made to replace them. It really really hurts, I can't tell you how much. It's also infuriating. A lot of the time it makes me want to just stop making art because what's the point? It'll just get stolen and chopped up, bastardised into some AI monstrosity and soon I won't even be needed at all. I spent my whole life trying to figure out what to do with it, finding one thing i love and managing to make a living off it, only for it to be taken away from me by a machine. Might as well just stab me to death and get it over with. It would hurt less. One of the things that hurt me the most is when people question if my art is AI or not. I hate that I also question every piece of art I now encounter too.

Your story is inspiring and it sounds like you enjoyed making art, so what happened? I can't understand how any artist would actually feel accomplished by generating images via AI. I do understand it's fun and brings joy to people I guess. As for being a part of the art community I don't think most artists will ever accept AI folks as being a part of it. There is a huge AI community though, as I'm sure you know.

Personally I find it really difficult to look at AI images, for many reasons, seeing them treated as art pains me. It's why I left ArtStation and why I'm no longer active on DeviantArt either.

I don't think you specifically are the "bad guy". The bad guys are the people who are pushing for this thing to actually replace artists. The bad guys are the hedge fund billionaire man babies behind it. I do think people using AI are helping it get better at stealing though. The support the AI has been given by folks using it has made people behind it more aggressive as well.

But like I said many times before I don't hate AI specifically and if it stops stealing and starts being used more ethically then it's fine (sort of). But I think everyone knows the AI would be nothing without actual artists' work, that's why they're gonna fight for their "right" to keep stealing from us. my origin story back to art

My childhood was ROUGH and my 20s were a wild ride, but I’m ok now. I have had a successful career, own a home, and have an amazing 9 year old. I do okay for myself. ✨

I thought I had achieved my “dream,” but I still hated myself. I still suffered from what I thought was just high functioning depression and anxiety. I felt awful for feeling awful and constantly had/have to fight off thoughts that tell me I am a loser, lazy, and should just die.

In 2021, I started seeing a trauma informed therapist in early March and learned about structural disassociation. Dissociation is a spectrum that can go all the way from daydreaming to dissociative identity disorder.

I fall somewhere in between there, but I honestly didn’t believe I could have some form of structural dissociation.

I doubted the severity of what happened to me and saw myself as resilient for not letting it get me down.

But the reality is that if I actually remembered the traumatic nature of those memories fully, I wouldn’t be able to function.

The way I survived was by my brain taking those things and finding a way to tell itself that it was no big deal, because the alternative would have left me paralyzed and at risk of being hurt worse.

My stubborn self still couldn’t/wouldn’t believe it. I was convinced my new therapist was wrong, I wasn’t traumatized, I just had depression, and was lazy.

What happened next?

I told myself that if I really did have other parts to prove it, show itself. I told it to do something only I/we would know. None of this “move my left arm” stuff. I felt like I needed proof.

A few days later, I was coloring with my son and I turned the page over when I finished the sheet. I just started drawing lines.

Drawing lines quickly turned into me drawing a face, which suddenly led to me quickly remembering how I used to draw this face ALL THE TIME when I was a teenager.

I sat there in awe, trying to keep my composure as I was filled with tears of joy and sadness. I told it I missed it, but that wasn’t all I remembered.

It’s a weird feeling to miss yourself and to receive a flood of memories, years memories and insights.

Yes, I had turned my passion into a career, but I lost my passion somewhere in there and forgot why I created in the first place.

1️⃣ I remembered how I used to make a ton of cool analog collages.

2️⃣ I started drawing and getting better at it, quickly.

3️⃣I realized how I had grown my design skills since I first started teaching myself html and graphic design in the late ’90s. But I never applied my skills to personal work since they’d grown.

4️⃣ I decided to apply what I learned + my ❤️ of collages and digital art into making again, starting with digital collages.

5️⃣ A few people saw my art and said I should make NFTs if I wasn’t already. I asked an NFT was and found an amazing community.

6️⃣ I began to learn more about digital art outside of work through the community and got an iPad and Apple Pencil. That completely changed the way I create art and helped me get outside of Adobe, which I associated with my career.

There is still a long ways to go with my journey and not sure it will ever end, but I know that the only way through it is with mindfulness and art.

I'm a HUGE collector, like I collect crystals, tarot decks, dolls and trinkets overall. Even books and stickers too. They're literally all over my room especially figures too. On my walls there are also things such as coasters (Sam and dean's mugshots LMFAOOO) and prints that I just think are really pretty. It's something I don't tell a lot of people about but it's definitely a big thing about me.

Personality wise I'd say I'm pretty funny but I don't want to sound conceited? I definitely do try to make my friends have a laugh at least once a day. I laugh at literally everything though. I talk A LOT as you can see and I'm also a very passionate personally about everything I love.

When it comes to my tarot cards and crystals, I'd say I believe them when it comes to tarot readings but I'm not like analysing every breath with a rose quartz.

I love many films from chick flicks to Fight Club and I think they're both really good. I'm very critical at times when watching films which may be a bad trait since it throws me off of the rest of the film 😅

I'd say some of my favourites are Fight club, pride and prejudice (2005), the darjeeling limited, Clueless and the matrix.

But when it comes to series I like things like total drama, Supernatural obviously, THE BOYS I LITERALLY BREATHE THAT SHOW and gilmore girls! They're all just enjoyable

Other hobbies include drawing (I love drawing people and looking at design choices in characters), writing and gaming.

Favourite music artists are Lady Gaga, the Smiths, TV Girl, Michael Jackson, Usher and there's probably more but I do really enjoy R&B.

Physically, I'm quite short with thick, curly black hair and olive skin since I'm middle eastern. I have dark eyes and a couple of beauty marks on my face. I wear glasses (when I can be bothered) and if I could wear anything I wanted I would definitely be a completely Rory Gilmore, but instead I'd say most of the time I put on jeans and a graphic tee. Sometimes I do genuinely try to look good though, I really do like to pamper myself because I never really was girly when I was younger and I wish i was tbh 😭 but I'm just channeling it now.

Artist and Course Research

There are many art courses out there that offer you the best guidance in your art journey, but in this post I will be talking about three in particular. 

Contemporary Art Practice - North East Scotland college. 

This course provides a window into contemporary art - a term loosely used to describe art of the current day or relatively recent past - allowing you to build upon your skill sets, knowledge and recognition of specialist art. You look back at historical studies that you can use to draw inspiration, learn and link back to your own individual art, work in teams to complete specific tasks, and also work individually to build up a portfolio of work that you are able to use to apply to any future courses or exhibitions etc. In the course, you complete assignments such as:

Observational drawing

Contemporary art practice, both 2D and 3D

Public art

Contemporary digital art

Life drawing

Overall this course offers you a taste of many different things, allowing you to build up a traditional art portfolio as well as a digital one, opening many opportunities for your career. As well as this, it is a HNC/HND course, which allows you to jump into third year at university if you so choose. 

I will now talk about a couple of the university art courses you can choose from.

Fine Art - Gray’s School of Art

In this fine art course you develop and expand your critical skills, creative skills, and professional abilities to prepare you for your future career as an artist. You explore a wide range of subjects including; drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, and moving image.  You are provided with amazing art studios, fully equipped workshops, and work closely with highly experienced staff to create your best possible work that will then be used in things such as public exhibitions and some work experience. Not only does it provide you with all of these opportunities for exhibitions, but in your 3rd year, it provides you with the opportunity to study abroad in Europe, Canada or the US, opening a whole new gateway of opportunities for your art career. 

Communications Design - Gray’s School of Art

In this course you explore graphics, illustration and photography, with design studios and workshop settings that allow you to fully explore both traditional techniques as well as the latest digital ones. You are provided with the opportunity to take part in a wide range of external facing activities such as studying abroad, international field trips, national design competitions and live collaborative projects. This course opens up pathways for people hoping to go into:

Graphic design

Illustration 

Photography

Web design

Digital animation

Of course, not everyone opts for university or college for their next steps, and if they do, sometimes it's for something completely different than what they end up actually doing in their careers. Here's a little bit of information about what steps some of my favourite artists took/are taking to get to where they are in their art career. 

Camila Salinas 

Camila is a young Mexican-American artist who has gained a lot of traction and a vast audience through posting short videos of her art on tiktok and sharing her finished pieces through instagram. She first started gaining viewers during the pandemic, in which she posted videos of art that she had created to portray how life was as a teen living through the lockdown. She makes her content relatable, funny and snappy so that she grabs attention and leaves viewers in awe of her talent. 

She is based in Texas, and is currently studying to gain her BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, a university that was founded and set up by a group of women in 1877, before any woman had the right to vote in the US. 

Lulu Chen

Lulu Chen is an award winning freelance illustrator who also works on animations and has a major passion for storytelling. Lulu’s art style is aimed towards a children's book type of art, and she mainly works with adobe photoshop and corel painter. Due to her leaning towards a more childlike sense of art, Lulu actually studied Children's book illustration in San Francisco and London, which then led to her finding her passion in animation and storytelling. She attended Sheridan College and graduated in April 2023, developing her passion for bringing stories to life through colour, lighting and design. 

Tahlia Stanton 

Tahlia is another young artist who has gained a lot of traction for her art through social media, specifically tiktok, using it to share videos of her art progress when making her incredibly captivating pieces. She has a strong passion for colour and textures in her pieces, and loves to be experimental with her work. As for how her professional life started, Tahlia said: 

“My professional career began with the rise of social media. Being recognised at the Young Australian Artist Of The Year Awards and awarded a visual art scholarship to Ballarat Clarendon College at the age of 15.”

She officially launched her creative practice and business in 2018, after graduating high school.

Mike Portes, a skilled web and graphic designer, authored 'Minsan May Isang Puta,' which secured a film grant in 2010. The indie film 'Ganap na Babae,' directed by Sarah Roxas, was inspired by my work. The author skillfully employs lines with symbolic, literal, and metaphorical significance. For instance, the line 'Tatlong malilibog na foreigner ang nag-pyesta sa katawan ko' serves as a poignant symbol, representing the three foreigners that historically influenced and conquered our nation. Carefully layered elements reveal a profound explanation of our societal context.The protagonist, representing the Philippines, becomes a central figure. Authored by Mike Portes, a passionate Filipino artist deeply devoted to his homeland, the story summarizes the union's theme and historical events. The line 'Sa tatlong beses akong nagahasa, ang pinakahuli ang di ko malilimutan' serves as a metaphor for the Japanese conquest, capturing the harsh realities of the Philippines. Portes successfully portrays widespread poverty and hardship faced by its people, drawing from his experiences as a dedicated volunteer assisting struggling Filipino families. Portes profound connection to the nation serves as a driving force behind the creation of this book.The story centers on a woman who, after enduring hardship, chooses to break free from societal norms for the sake of her children's well-being. Pilipinas, a significant figure, allows herself to be used by others for their happiness but eventually decides to break away from this system. The story highlights the challenges faced by Pilipinas, such as exploitation and hardships, but also emphasizes her resilience and love for her children.Mike Portes writing showcases diverse perspectives and profound insights. As an active advocate supporting Filipino causes, Portes conveys a powerful message. The story can be interpreted as a reflection of Philippine history, where the three foreigners symbolize concurring nations that exploited the country. The potential of the children represents present-day Filipinos, illustrating internal discord among siblings and the need for unity and support for the Philippines.The essence of the story urges us to learn lessons from our past, embrace a fighting spirit for unwavering love for our nation, and foster a deep and passionate devotion to our homeland. It calls for Filipinos to unite and stand together, fostering a sense of shared devotion and passionate commitment to our country.

Chapter 35 - Liliana

The next morning, I was alone in the mansion with a few guards. As Sebastian was down at the warehouse moving what he could before the detective could come and find what was there. I was on the phone to Samantha who was telling me that the art gallery was almost finished. Just a few final touches and it will be ready.

I was beyond happy that it was still going forward. I can't wait for my art to be shown to everyone.

Eduardo was working on a guest list of whom he knows and knew would like art. Also has set up a few community openings for those who like art to come visit. We've even talked about having a free art lesson every week in new York. A space had just opened up a few streets away.

I would love to teach those who don't have the money about art, art isn't always valued as it used to be, by people and family. Sometimes people are mocked upon for wanting to become an artist. Once the phone call with Samantha was finished, I was seated in the painting room, drawing up a sketch of what I wanted to paint up. Once the outline was finished, I began to paint it up.

My hand gently and slowly moved against the canvas, seeing the colours and my image come to life as I painted and drew the outline. Being an artist can be anything from graphic design, to spray paint art, graffiti. Humming to myself as I painted.

"Looking good," I jumped at the sound of Sebastian's voice.

Turning to face him, I gave him a look and huffed, causing Sebastian to chuckle. "Sorry bebé, you really do go into a trance when you paint don't you?" He asked as he stepped forward.

"Yes" I replied. "How is everything going?"

Sebastian sighed, "Well we managed to move what we could, but I need to burn off some steam. Want to come with me to the gym?" He asked.

I stood up from the chair I was sitting on. Nodding my head, "Yes please, can we also go to the diner afterwards? I'm craving a milkshake and chicken tenders."

"Of course, whatever you want. I will buy you the entire menu if that made you happy," Sebastian smiled as he stepped forward, pressing his lips to mine, for a short but passionate kiss.

I headed to the bedroom to change my clothes, I wanted to wear something more comfortable. Putting on a pink track suit set with comfortable shoes, doing my hair into a pony tail.

When we got to the gym, Sebastian held onto my hand, Deigo was also coming inside as well.

"Mr Knight, nice to see you again. This must be your lovely wife Mrs Knight." The receptionist spoke.

He had short brown hair, blue eyes and was wearing a tank top and black jeans.

"Yes she is, keep your eyes off her, before I carve them out." Sebastian warned, the receptionist nodded and gulped.

He said nothing else as he led me inside and to an empty seat. I knew he took these sessions seriously.

"Alright bebè, I have got an apple and peanut butter cup for you as well. Not to mention your favourite drink."

Nodding my head as he handed me the food and placed the drink bottle next to me. Deigos new girlfriend Rachel sat next to me, she had long straight blonde hair, blue eyes, a fake tan on. She was wearing designer clothes. I haven't really spoken to Rachel as I haven't seen them much.

When Sebastian and Deigo headed into the boxing ring to spar together. Rachel turned towards me.

"You have him wrapped around your little finger, don't you?" Rachel asked.

Frowning as I turned towards her, "What do you mean?" Sebastian loves me, even if he gets what I need.

Rachel scoffed, rolling her eyes, "Please, we can all see it."

"I mean we are married and I am carrying his children. It doesn't mean I have him wrapped around my finger."

"Why did you come here? I haven't seen you here before?" Rachel asked.

"Well sometimes I'm asleep depending on what time he comes and other times, I'm sitting in the office up there watching him from there," I replied, although it was none of her buisness.

Rachel said nothing else while I ate the peanut butter cup and watched Sebastian and Deigo spar together. Sebastian was getting most of the hits in while he dodged Sebastian's, my eyes never left his body watching his muscle's flex each time he moved causing my pussy to become wet.

I cleared my throat, I couldn't help but cheer quietly as Sebastian pinned Deigo onto the mat causing Rachel to groan and huff. She stood up and trotted over to them. Like a puppy dog. Rolling my eyes at her reaction, Sebastian looked over at me and did the same thing. Standing up from my spot, I walked over towards him, as he got out of the sparing mat.

"I saw you watching me, did you enjoy it?" He asked with a smirk.

"Yes," I whispered.

Sebastian hummed, pulling me into him kissing me once again on the lips.

We were at the diner with Rachel and Deigo, my head was resting on Sebastian's arm. His hand was placed on my pregnant bump, feeling the little ones kick against it.

"So do you know the gender?" Deigo asked.

"Well the doctor is having a hard time, finding the gender as they are always in the wrong position," I replied.

Rachel said nothing as she screwed her nose up. A waitress walked over, swaying her hips in motion, she wore a baby blue uniform, with white shoes. Her blonde hair was done up in a bun, she had natural looking make up on.

"Hello, my name is Susan, I will be your waitress today. What can I get for you?" Susan asked as he grabbed her notepad out of her pocket.

"Can I please get the chicken tenders with large fries and a large chocolate shake please?" I asked.

Susan nodded and wrote it down, the others ordered what they wanted. Within a few minutes Susan disappeared to place the order in.

"That's a lot of food, for yourself. Are you going to eat it all?" Rachel asked causing Sebastian and even Deigo to gape at her.

I could feel the heat beginning to rise up in Sebastian's body as he stared at her. Placing my hand on his arm, getting him to look at me. I gave him a look.

I ignored what she said and simply smiled at Rachel, "Yes Rachel, I will." She went to open her mouth but I silenced her with my own. "I'm pregnant with twins meaning I'm hungrier than normal. Even before I was pregnant I ate a lot because I used to work out a few times with Sebastian and when I could when I finished working at the bar. But you know whatever comes out of your mouth next better be good."

Knowing that Sebastian will do whatever he pleases to silence her and Deigo won't stop him because no one speaks to me like that.

"I may seem fragile, or that I can't handle myself but believe me when I say Rachel. You don't want to piss me off. Trust me."

I could hear Sebastian's lips against my hair knowing he was proud of me for standing up for myself. It felt good. Deigo cleared his throat, a minute later the food came out.
