13:00 11/03/17 The Saturday market was taking place in the grassmarket. The square was very busy with shoppers, tourists on a Edinburgh tour and rugby fans for Scotland v England 6 nations. There were people of all ages out in the grassmarket today. The community used the space today to sell food, antiques, bricka brack and the rest used the area for sitting, eating, waiting on friends and somewhere to stand to have a cigarette break from the pub. The market died down around 2 o'clock and markets started to close. There were a lot of family's out walking, there was people of all ages out. Kids using the square to run around and jump on benches, old people sitting in the square for a seat and middle aged people mostly using the square as a place to eat.

21:00 10th April

Theres a lot of noise pollution from the cars passing through the grassmarket. There is also lots of passers by, only two sitting in the square eating. The square seems to be a main standing point for people to make decisions, wither it being food, pubs. Somewhere they can stand and look down the whole street. There are advert stands for a historic trail which has caught he eyes of 5 passers. Tours were also taken place in the square, the tour guide was in old ropes and a top hat explaining the history of the Grassmarket. The tour lasted for around 20 minutes where the tourist could have a break and sit in the square, walk around and take photos.  Around 9:30 There was a lot of people out walking around the area. Not many stopping to look at menus or looking for a bar. There was a lot more people in the square. What looked like a group of friends just sitting in the square, a couple sitting looking through photos the most have taken earlier that day.

20:00 10th April No one in the square. But passers looking for restaurants. Very scarce. Then at 20:15 the square got really busy ending with 7 people sitting in the square. 4 were eating, two talking and one man on his phone. All left at different times but did not stay longer than 10 minutes, possible because it was very col outside. There was no one sitting outside biddy mulligans until 9:45, there was a group of 4. The main age group at this time was round 25-50. There was from time to time a lot of groups passing through the area but none stayed in the Square area for longer than 5 minutes.

19:30 31st March

There are 6 people in the square tonight on the Grassmarket. There’s a homeless man sitting begging. A man and his son, they are fixing the boys bike. There’s a bike taxi pushed up against the benches. He’s sitting leaned back with his feet on the handlebars texting. Theres a wide age range is out tonight. Girls heading on a hen do, couples, men outside biddy mulligans.

A man was setting up a handlebar challenge, where if someone pays £5 and hangs on a bar for 2 minutes he will win £50. there were a lot of passers by and groups of guys on a night out. 5 men tried and failed, the game is obviously rigged but i will not state why. People standing outside the pubs would get involved in the hanging challenge possibly getting more drunk and ambitious. There were a couple of families out at this time with children, the main age groups out at this time were 18-40.

18:30 9/3/17

Woman sat on her phone in the square. People are sat outside buddy mulligans eating and drinking. There is a lot of people (aged 20-60) walking through the area. Taking photos. Woman on her phone started interacting with a man and his dog. The grassmarket is quite quiet with very little noise from cars. 5 joggers have past in he last 10 minutes. Groups of friends looking at different restaurants menus. One man stood next to the benches eating. The space seems like it solely used at this time by people heading home. One man has joined me on the bench eating chips from the chip shop across the road. Larger groups of guys passing though ready for a night out.
