Hey

Sorry for kinda springing this on you but any idea what happened to the author of roll with the punches? greateschange?

I was following their series and noticed that their tumblr has been deactivated and they haven't updated in a long while

Hi!

Um, I really know close to nothing about what's currently going on with @greateschange right now. I didn't even know her tumblr got deactivated😮

Last thing I knew (like months ago) she was deleting stuff from her twitter, I think? and focusing primarily on working on a novel and get it published…but even there she's not active anymore, not sure if it's a permanent thing or temporary, sorry.

What I do know is that she doesn't plan on leaving RWTP unfinished (thank the gods!) the latest update it got was last month - the first chapter of part 12 (an undefined multichapter) of the story with more focus on Korra, since the previous part was titled Asami Alone and centered around her.

I trust the series will continue eventually, although I'm unaware when that will be.

I'd honestly be content with at least some updates every now and then on Afterwards, which is a collection of snippets with no chronological order, so…

I wouldn't panic about RWTP not continuing, but I would be REALLY patient if I were you. I hope that helped.

And if anyone reading this knows anything about @greateschange current activities, please let them know her story got some undying followers willing to wait whatever it takes to see it continue, whenever that may be😊

1. What fic of yours would you recommend to someone who had never read any of your work?

That depends on what ship they were looking for, I suppose. If it was Korrasami, I’d probably say Book 5: A New Path is the best start. For Korvira, maybe Starting Over.

34. What aspects of your writing are inspired by/taken from your real life?

Occasionally I’ve had things that have happened to me that I decided to write about. I’ve also used my own experience as an autistic adult to help me write autistic characters too. But mostly I try not to interject my own life into my writing. Fanfiction is my escape from reality.

36. Do you visualize what you read/write?

Yes. Actually a lot of my fics started out as dreams, that I then expanded upon. It’s hard to explain. It’s kinda like a movie in my head, that I then have to convert back into a script. I hope that makes sense.

41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”

This one is easy. There’s only one fic that made me feel like that.

It’s Korrasami, but this is easily some of the best writing I’ve seen in this fandom. I absolutely adore the angst in this fic, and the other parts of the series are great reads too. I highly recommend checking them out.

Based on @greatestchange’s fic: Roll with the punches.(chapter 24)

They got back to Asami’s place in little to no time at all. After shivering their way out of their jackets, coats, and other layers, they decided to warm up by the fireplace and drink some hot chocolate. Then Asami got the great idea to play Jenga, which they’d been doing for about twenty minutes now. The television sounded in the background with a Christmas movie that neither of them paid attention to.

“You’re really good at this,” Korra complimented.

Asami only smiled as she concentrated on successfully removing the middle block near the center of the stack and placing it on top to start a new row.

“Comes with years of practice,” she said. “Your turn.”

Korra leaned forward, squinting her eyes as she tried to find the most stable place to move a block. Eventually, she went for one at the very bottom. The entirety of the stack swayed back and forth in slow motion before tumbling over and crashing to the wooden floor.

“Ugh!” Korra groaned. “This game is annoying.”

Asami laughed and started stacking them again. “It’s because you go too fast. You need to be patient. It also wouldn’t hurt if you poked at the ones less firm in place.”

“But it’s less fun that way,” Korra whined.

“Or maybe it’s because it gives you more of a challenge, so on instinct you go for the toughest blocks in the stack.”

Korra paused in helping pick up the blocks and looked Asami dead in her eyes.

“Are you analyzing me through Jenga?”

i feel like it is apt and that it ridiculously goes well with the final scenes in chapter 25. made me tear up a bit.

Taking another RWTP break, going through Ch.22 now, and I chose to pause on one of those handful of pleasant moments... (Is it really a spoiler if the story's been completed for 3 years now?)

Dialogues like these between them make my stomach do backflips, even the words that aren't dialogue do.

august: are any of your fics associated with certain genres/artists/songs/etc?

yep songs! usually a few for any fic that’s a sustained concept and not like a vignette, for thematic reasons or just what i was listening to at the time. fics strongly tied to one song for either/both reasons:

- ‘between the breaths’ by mitski & xiu xiu for the blue that lasts (this fic also has a playlist)

- ‘blue dahlia’ by the gaslight anthem for wait for the night - it’s named after a line. also ‘call it what you want’ by tswift, in a far memeier way (reputation sure is an album) but god the tone and ‘you don’t need to save me but would you run away with me’ he built a FIRE hm?? her castle crumbled? and the male model lover vibe it’s p funny ok it just works (this fic will probably have a playlist one day)
