I don`t think I`ll ever get over Aegon making an additional effort to get to Aemond`s eye level:

There`s a fascinating dynamic here. In the 1st case Aegon is teasing Aemond from the height of his position as the elder brother, 'descending' to Aemond who is taciturn, inexperienced, dragonless. In the 2nd one the elder is pleading with the younger, reaching up for him - fierce, brave, worthy.

But at the same time I don`t think that for Aegon it`s all about 'looking down' v 'looking up'. Him trying to get to the same level as his brother, to get closer to him, is in part the end in itself.

Aemond is the only person whose proximity Aegon seems to search openly, in one form or another, the whole time they`re on screen (here are just a few cases):

Whatever difficulties (to put it mildly) the Targtower brothers have had in their relationship, Aemond is Aegon`s rock, his sword and shield - and Aegon is Aemond`s king, his charge, his beautiful disaster. Aegon knows it, Aemond feels it. They are brothers, Your Honor.

Both Ty/Leo and Tom/Ewan did a marvelous job portraying this complicated yet beautiful relationship and the ineffable bond between the two. So I have one request for the HotD team: Let. The Actors. Act.

every Green Brothers post reminds me that the true casualty of "cancel culture" is you can't just be a hater anymore. it is pointed out time and again that the only thing the brothers are accused of is being overly-friendly with fans to the point it seems creepy and of having gross energy.

invariably the fans are like "wow way to spread baseless rumors" bitch what rumour??? them skeeving me out isn't a rumor it's a fact! i don't have to accuse anyone of a crime to point out they're acting creepy and weird. you can't be sent to jail because someone on tumblr said "your vibes are so fucked up and nasty"

this is why i never stand in the way of people who make similar comments about the McElroys, even as a MBMBAM fan myself. it's your god-given right to see someone and say "ew, no" and i'll defend that right with my life!!! there is nothing i respect so much as the pure art of being a hater!!!

Don`t mind me just going on with obsessing over that Targtower brothers scene🙈

The way Aegon`s eyes are fixed on Aemond`s face - as if his whole being is attuned to his brother`s every move. Like in this moment Aemond is holding Aegon`s entire life in his hands - and actually he is.

The way Aegon continues staring at Aemond while giving zero fucks about Criston standing 0.5 inches apart and gripping him by the shoulder - until he begins to realize that Aemond is actually allowing this to happen. And then hope, pleading and some kind of lust (I`d like to explore this last one in a separate post - update: here it is) give way to -

- a heartbreaking mix of hopelessness and despair with a pinch of anger and a sprinkle of sadness. Phenomenal acting from TGC here👏 All of this is in the set of Aegon`s jaw, in the subtle movements of his mouth, in his posture and in the way he removes his hands from Aemond`s face and takes a step back. If only we could see his eyes (screw this angle, honestly).

And only then Aegon acknowledges Criston`s presence - by shoving him and storming away, as if saying 'Fuck you all! Yes, I`m forced to to this, but I refuse to be dragged. I`m going on my own'.

The thing is, IMO Aegon is that unbothered by Criston`s words and actions because he knows that there is a person who can literally, physically stop Cole from getting his way - probably the only one in King`s Landing if not in the entire Seven Kingdoms - and this person is standing in front of him. And he`s going to do this, right? He`s going to help because he`s his brother, and he asked him so nicely, and why the hell is he doing nothing? And then Aegon registers what Criston`s just said - "The Queen awaits". He`s here on the orders of his mother, the Queen, and so is Aemond. And Aemond is not going to go against their mother`s will, whatever Aegon says or does. He`s not going to pick him, he`s not enough - once again.
