“Be careful what you wish for.” ✨☎️✨☎️✨ The Operator by Gretchen Berg is a historical mystery that focuses on family ties and drama in a small town. I found that while the overall mystery was intriguing and kept me turning the pages when I had it in my hands, it was incredibly slow moving to begin with and I struggled to pick it back up when I put it down, which was slightly disappointing. That being said, I loved the historical aspects of this novel, and how incredibly detailed they were. I especially liked the recipes and the poems included into the narrative. Another thing I liked was the fat that we were following three generations of the same family. It was interesting to see how each of their experiences growing up presented themselves throughout time. The family aspect as really well explored, and it was interesting to see how family ties effected the characters through the narrative. As someone who has lived in a few small towns, this portrayal of nosy and gossipy neighbours that know everything felt incredibly realistic, and it was incredibly done.
