what plant has given you the most surprising challenges when you decided to grow it?

Ooh this is a tough question, thanks for the ask!

In terms of stuff that just plain old didn't grow I'd say it'd have to be the Ground Cherries I tried to plant, I started it too late in the season and then went on vacation so they just never popped up!

The most surprising challenge I had was with my tomatoes, this year they've been getting absolutely decimated by one pest after the next, first aphids, then and still hornworms, and now army worms have seen to destroying half my yield. They went after mostly my super common Delicious Tomatoes and stayed off the varieties that I got at a local plant sale for the most part. The delicious tomatoes are also really susceptible to splitting after rain meanwhile my pimp and bumblebee seem to do alright with it. I think delicious tomatoes are definitely a variety I'm avoiding next year because of all the issues and I know there's better stuff suited to my climate.

Garden update feat. My very first ground cherries! They’re related to tomatoes but they taste like tropical fruit, it’s strange but delicious. I’ve also noticed my very first pie pumpkin of the year growing, and there are 2 more female buds that I’m hoping were pollinated.

Ground cherries!

Lovely, lovely fruit. They fall to the ground (or in my case, onto the deck) when ripe, safe in their little paper lanterns. The taste is unique and delicious, something like pineapple cherry melon honey and blueberry all mixed together.

The Ground Cherries (Hyrulean Fire Fruit) are starting to fruit! They are actually kind of a huge nuisance in our yard 😅

Might look into drying fruit, they would be really good spell components 🤔

I painted a Physalis alkekengi (Ghost lantern flower) in water colours and gouache on a cotton canvas board for water colours :3 I tried to make it look like snow is falling and tried to show some different states of the plant. I honestly have to say that I like this plant a looot! It's probably my second favourite flower.

And with that, I hope you all will have a nice Christmas. Tomorrow is a piece of art from 2021 on its way. And I guess we're now up to date on my art gallery :)
