Your jaw dropped, dropped, when you walked into the apartment and saw Mat sitting at the kitchen counter eating a snack. His hair was gone. Almost a buzz cut type gone. “Wha-?”

“Hi, baby.” He just smiled innocently. Your initial state of shocked passed and you rushed over to him.

“Mathew! What happened?!”

“What?” He combed over his hair. But there was nothing left to comb! That’s how short it was. “I needed a refresh.”

“But that’s not a refresh! It’s… It’s…” A tragedy. “Oh god, I’m scared to touch it.”

He chuckled at first and grabbed your hand to slide it over his head. Yeah, that did not feel good. You definitely missed his soft fluffy hair. He saw your face, not that you did a great job at hiding it, and started pouting. “You don’t like it?”

“No, that’s not it,” you answered too slowly to be convincing. “I just liked your hair before. Like a lot.”

“Well, it’s my hair. And it was getting too long. It was scratchy and tickling me.”

“So a trim didn’t cross your mind?” He rolled his eyes, the pout still sitting on his beautiful face, as he stood and walked away to put his plate in the sink.

“I’m sorry.” You followed, grabbing his arm to turn him towards you. “I’m sorry. It does look good. You’re right, if it’s really what you wanted then that’s that.” You kissed him gently, easing the annoyance out of him. “Will you tell me next time? So I have enough time to say my goodbyes?”

He shook his head. “You’re weird.”

“You still love me.” His grip around you tightened as he leaned into the kitchen counter.

“I do.”

“And I still love you despite that haircut.” He opened his mouth in protest, but you were quick to shut him up with a kiss.
