Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself season 1: Quote
“Sometimes you will dream of names and not remember why they were important. Write them down, Gabriel. If only to remind yourself that something was taken from you.” (episode 8)

I finally watched breaking bad (all within the past week or so while I worked, finished it and watched el camino last night) and I'm confident this isn't a new thought I'm expressing or anything but genuinely how DID an entire generation of dudes convince themselves Walter White was cool and admirable and intended to be sympathetic. I know ppl just lack media literacy sometimes but I'm still so confused
I don't think I've EVER watched a piece of media that so blatantly depicts a guy making the worst possible decisions at every turn and having his life ruined for it and not being redeemed or made sympathetic in any significant or lasting way. the kinds of justifications villains USUALLY give that make people consider them "morally grey" or "tragic" or whatever (everything I did was for my loved ones, I did what I had to to survive, once I was in this I couldn't get out, I just needed you to trust me so I could keep you safe, etc etc) is ALWAYS framed as complete self-serving bullshit when Walt says it, and one of the only shreds of personal growth he ever exhibits in the whole series is when he finally fucking admits that. every time he does something even remotely cool or drops a quotable one-liner, something terrible immediately happens that makes everything worse and makes him look like an unreasonable idiot asshole again. by the end of the series the ONLY characters they can still contrast as being morally "worse" than him are literally a bunch of bloodthirsty neonazis who kept a guy in a cage for several months. this show is practically SCREAMING at you the entire time not to admire Walt. why did every dude I knew in highschool have his face on tshirts and Facebook pfps.
I just don't get it. at least with The Dark Knight's Joker it was like, a feature-length movie and that's it. you spend a lot less time with the Joker and it has a lot less time to delve into his motivations, so there's way more room for flanderization and misinterpretation as people extrapolate the few cool/interesting/sad things they saw into a whole nuanced misunderstood guy in their heads and online. Walter White has 5 seasons' worth of 45min episodes to convince you beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a miserable fucking loser who ruins everything he touches because of greed and selfishness. if you weren't watching it for that, what WERE you getting out of this. what DID you think this show was about. am I just missing some key piece of context from 2012 or whatever that would help me understand this

There's something so bittersweet about the childhood flashbacks in tua. They were all children together. Reginald was horrible, but they had each other. And then everything went to shit. Five's 13 year old body a bitter reminder of what once was. His siblings in their adult bodies a reminder of how things should've been. God,,,,

"House of the Dragon is a good show."
Compared to early seasons Game of Thrones or other acclaimed HBO series? No.
Compared to Pretty Little Liars or your average CW show? Maybe.

season 1 isn't my favorite season or anything, but it has my absolute favorite portrayal of house by far. he goes to patients' lacrosse games, does their prenatal care, talks with and follows up with them when it's completely narratively unnecessary (but in a good way; i just couldn't think of a less pejorative description). he's even kinder to his team. and best of all, he explains things — takes the time to argue for a risky treatment and has a clear basis for treating rather than testing. he's more grounded. he still does all this later in the series, of course, but as the seasons go on he seems more and more ashamed of his kindness and humanity. i think as the show progresses, it gets too used to itself, used to the fact that house just says rude things and does risky treatments because that's just "who he is". i am totally willing to make the argument that he gets flanderized in a way.
while i love later-seasons house, don't get me wrong, my favorite is always going to be the house who is the most grounded in reality. he's still scared of it, but he acts like a human. and that is who house really is to me — not the layers of sarcasm, bigotry, outlandish subplots and unrealistic procedure, but the guy who grumbles and groans about doing his job but secretly loves it and has the show making efforts to expose that secret. so yeah season 1 house supremacy

Not to be a buzzkill but this last half of the season has been…..messy, and it feels half baked. I think it’s obvious they’re setting up a Rex and Echo (+ rebels adjacent clones Gregor and Wolffe) spin-off which is like, cool more clone content.
But at the cost of shelving the bad batch and pulling a game of thrones final season?? Like rushing through the most important season everything that’s been building up for years, just saying “meh” so we can move onto a Rex-bellion Show?
Tumblr media
Fuck me for actually liking the bad batch as central main characters I guess lol.

Hey, there the same newbie in the Fandom again
I rewatched the show again with my brother and started noticing things I didn't in the first. But for today, only one ask shall I send
Do you think Walter has some guilt feelings about Jim transformation? I mean, the boy wasn't listening to Merlyn till he said similar reasons to the one Strickler said in training and especially in bad coffee, which we saw in it that Jim still cared about Walter opinion or something? (TBH, I like the episode, but half of it was just trash . What do you mean by just "protect her?" he cares for Jim and forbids Bular from attacking him way before starting to start dating Barbara)
Wow, so much rambling sorry anyway back to the guilty feelings because I think he kinda saw himself the reason? He clearly knew or guessed what the potion would do because of his reaction to it
And the "young Atlas you are not alone"
It strikes me as if he realized what he said earlier about Jim not being able to defeat Gunmar by his strength alone (so he got the potion) and his speech was more of hopeless attempt to reach Jim to not accepting the fact he can't win alone but they could find another way together
Oh God, I write all of that, so sorry, but you're the only trollhunters (Strickler) fan I know would be able to understand me
First off, this is a fantastic ask! And it doesn't matter how many times I rewatch Trollhunters, I still find new things. It's probably why I rewatch so much.
I don't think Walt is guilty about Jim's transformation to half-troll. He wanted Jim to survive Gunmar. Because any humanity shown to Gunmar would end with Jim dead. Strickler never said Jim needed to be more than human, not like Merlin did. Strickler was terrified Jim would die, which was why the training in season 3 was so tough. Strickler was angry and scared when he realised what Merlin had done.
Yeah, Jim DOES care about Walt's opinion on him, and I think the same can be said of Walt.
Bad coffee is a bad episode for Strickler and Jim's relationship lol. Right from the start of Trollhunters it was JIM who instilled in Strickler the seeds of his eventual redemption. And RoTT (terrible as it was overall) proved that once and for all. Strickler is willing to DIE for Jim. He didn't die for Barbara. And that's why Jim sets him up with Barbara at the end of the movie.
The whole 'I didn't return to train you, I returned to protect her' can't be taken seriously. Since you know, Strickler was high on gravesand. Nothing he says is particularly nice while on gravesand. None of the teachers are lol. And it was said also because Strickler wanted Jim to kill him. To finish the fight. And needed to say something to wind him up. What better then using his mom? Since obviously he returned for Jim's sake, knowing Barbara would want nothing to do with him at the time. And yes, maybe he returned to train Jim also because it would indirectly protect Barbara, but still. Blatent lie. If that was true, Jim would be dead.

Do you think 10 would have had as big a connection to Rose without the foundation of Nine's background/relationship with her? I think they still would have been close, but I don't know if it would have gone AS fast or been AS open without Nine. just because he did love Rose so much and I think a lot of that carried over into 10. I mean 10's looks came about specifically because of how 9 thought she'd want her S/O to look!
Oooooooh excellent question. Short answer? No, at least not right away—but their chemistry is just so electric that I feel like it would have gotten there, given more time. (Also I’M SCREAMING I knew people said that but I didn’t realize it was actually CANON AAAAAUUGGHH)
Long answer, it raises the question if Ten would even be the same person without Nine and Rose’s relationship. This is kind of dipping into my own still-forming opinion on how the Doctor’s regenerations work (as I understand it there are differing opinions on how it works in-canon anyway), but Ten was created by Nine sacrificing himself for Rose—Ten is almost quite literally a manifestation of Nine’s love for her, which is why Rose is integral to Ten’s identity, even when she’s lost. It’s her name that keeps him fighting. It’s her influence that informs his decisions, even when she’s not there. She’s his center of gravity.
Honestly? I’m not sure Ten would even be Ten without meeting Rose, even disregarding the fact that he probably wouldn’t have gone through all that character development and healing without her (or at least in the same way). Especially given what you mentioned about his appearance, I like to think that Ten is Nine’s love for Rose blasted through a megaphone. Tenrose without that foundation just doesn’t work.

This is such a odd thing to think about when I think of Big O but I like how despite how different season 1 and season 2 is I’ve never seen anyone in my experience argue which one was better. I’m not saying it never happened, it most certainly did at one point, I can imagine people arguing on forums when it was new back in the day that “finally the show is getting good!” or “the show sucks now” when season 2 came along but in the current moment I’ve never seen it brought up even if I know there are people who prefer season 1 over season 2 and vice versa. You never see a fandom space that is so moderately chill about difference in opinions like this and it’s honestly so refreshing.

Hannibal (the TV series) seasons in one sentence:
Season 1: The least amount of police procedural you will ever see in a police procedural.
Season 2: Reins are off now, fuckers, let's do some goddamn character work!
Season 3: Wherein the first half is Hannibal writing fanfiction and the second half has completely new main characters.
#geeky talks#geeky talks hannibal#this just popped into my head#this was a very good series but it is a wild fucking ride#various notes about my sentences#season 1's sentence is because the writer of show didn't want to do a police procedural#it is absolutely hilarious to watch with that in mind#because you can watch as he does less and less of it each episode#season 2 is absolutely the best season because he finally got to do what he wanted which was character work#if you don't like character work you're going to fucking *hate* season 2#there's probably a decent chance you won't like the ending of season 1 either#season 3 is fucking wild#it wasn't necessarily bad but it definitely wasn't what i'd call anywhere near the standards of the second season#but geeky what do you mean by hannibal writes fanfiction#listen this is impossible to explain unless you've seen the third season#but i feel like if you've watched the third season you're just nodding your head right now all#yep that sounds about right#the last half of season 3 is honestly pretty disappointing#hannibal and will are just basically not in it#it's such a bizarre choice for a last season of a tv show where the entire show was based around hannibal and will#i can't remember if i read this somewhere or if it's just speculation (which i feel is supported by the season)#but the writer really wanted to do red dragon and just ran out of time#so instead of just shrugging and saying ah well and writing something else#he felt the need to jam the entire book in the second half of season 3#so it's all about the characters from red dragon and will and hannibal are also there sometimes#did really love the actual ending of the show though

okay now I really do wish seasons one and two of loki had just been one 10-12 episode miniseries, because it actually feels like a cohesive story now

sorry i have been flooding your in box but in case i forget. would you even check out a rex and echo spin off at all or is it too soon to tell?
You know what’s crazy? If you had told me a year ago there’s probably gonna be a Rex spinoff show I’d be soooo excited. Now?
It just feels…hollow? Soured? Idk. People moaned and groaned since day one they didn’t wanna watch Hunter, Tech, Wrecker etc. they wanted REX and ECHO and OMG why isn’t background clone number 657 from episode 12 of clone wars here??? Why isn’t Echo front and center this is bullshit!?
Anyway, people bitched about everything from day one, despite season 1+2 delivering some of the best Star Wars content in years, and now it feels like the bad batch is getting a super rushed and half assed ending so they can move on to a shiny new show with Rex and Echo.
It’s literally giving Game of Thrones final season vibes, when the creators tried to do a speed run through the story and couldn’t be assed to even try to make things work, just so they could move onto their new Star Wars project. And then the result was so bad, they lost their Star Wars project lmfao.
Like, the bad batch deserve a story too. They’ve set up so much, beautifully crafted these impactful emotional moments and character arcs- and the clone rebellion we’ve been working toward and slowly growing in the background could EASILY have been part of this show.
But no. They’re gonna save that for the new show with more popular clones like the fans want 😌 and Star Wars creating content in reaction to fan outcry has never gone wrong, nope. The bad batch? What’s that lol, isn’t that the show with that goofy little kid? It’s all about the Rex-bellion show now baby 😎
Watch them pull some of the more recent bull shit and have Echo be force sensitive, Cal Kestis shows up for some reason, Moff Gideon is a one off bad guy to help tie into Mando, oh and Darth Vader is there too
