I find her little play town adorable yet sad! I find it adorable that it existed as somewhere she could cosplay a peasant, but sad she went there when court got to stressful
I totally agree anon. She wasnt a regular person and therefore of course that comes with a lot of positives like money, influence, and power, she also never really got time to be herself. Her little town was her only escape from the pressures that the French court forced upon her, and where she could go to escape the nasty rumors and gossip. I’m really happy Louis allowed her to have that because it really did improve her life a lot. Also he never interceded on her little getaway and never tried to sneak in, I literally find that adorable. He respected that she needed time alone, king energy tbh.
I’m sure her and Louis both would have been happier out of the royal spotlight, living together on a farm. Like Louis abdicating for his younger brother and he and Marie having a nice quiet life out of the limelight (but ofc still royals). She can be the cottage core fashionista she wants to be and he a clock maker.
Fuck i might make this an AU

i get that drag is important to many gay men but whenever I see drag queens talking about makeup and shapewear and heels I feel like a farm girl watching marie antoinette pretend to milk cows while wearing silk in the hameau de la reine. like oh is this fun for you? are you having a good time? in your little fake farm? are you enjoying yourself? doing this thing that i get shit for not doing?

A view of a building at the  Le hameau du château de Chantilly. This hameau, designed by Jean-François Leroy for the prince de Condé, was one of the inspiratations for Marie Antoinette’s later ‘hameau de la reine.’  [credit: Thesupermat, via Wikimedia. CC BY-SA 3.0, no changes]

Darling Erasmus ⭐️
(The background picture is actually a photo I took when I visited Versailles this summer, in Marie-Antoinette‘s Hameau de la Reine. I thought it was so pretty, and suits him quite well!)
