Hi! Was there any indication that Castiel ever knew about what happened to Crowley when he was captured by Salmondean at end of Season 9 and begining of Season 10? I think he was aware that they were trying to "cure" him by injecting sanctified blood, but I don't think he actually witnessed any evidence of what happened to Crowley as a result of the failed cure. Did he know that Crowley did have some of his humanity back? Did he know about Crowley's human blood addiction?

Did he know about Crowley's affection for Dean? I know all the shippers talk about his jealousy for Crowley constantly but I think his hostility towards Crowley would be consistent with his distate for Crowley's demon status (angels have a deep-seated contempt for demons, as Naomi said they are "unclean") and let's face it their history of antagonism. He didn't seem to know about "summer of love" because in the phone call with Sam it was clear neither of them had any clue what was Dean doing. But later, was there any indication that he knew Crowley had "winchester derangement syndrome" (other than the cut scene with Rowena)? Perhaps when Dean handed the first blade to him instead of Crowley he saw the hurt on Crowley's face? Or did he just interprete it as Crowley being sour that he lost the first blade? Did he consider it fair game to deceive and manipulate Crowley?

Then, did he notice Crowley's affection for him? Crowley flirted with him of course but he must have written it off as a kind of insult or just a mannerism?

Or was he too preoccupied with the Winchesters and his self-condemnation about heaven and the need to make amends to see any of it? Was it not until they had the talk after "Rock Never Dies" offscreen when all of this came to light? Was Castiel remoreseful that he never really saw Crowley for who he was?

Sorry for the long ask, but since you made me into a crowstiel believer I am having all sorts of crowstiel questions.

Hello hello!! No honestly thank you so much for this ask, I love talking about Crowstiel so much and I’m more than happy to share my thoughts on all this!

From what I can remember, I don’t think Cas has any idea that salmondean have Crowley imprisoned until Road Trip, which is like midway through season 9. There’s a deleted scene from that episode where Cas and Crowley actually get to talk (albeit very briefly) about their respective near-human experiences, which you can see in this gifset. I wish I had a link to the actual clip but I’m sure it’s on Youtube somewhere lol. Of course the scene was deleted because tptb LOVE cutting Cas and Crowley content but it’s real in my heart.

I don’t think Cas was aware of the full extent of Crowley’s addiction at that point, but if he was it would have been through salmondean’s perspective unfortunately, i.e. probably not very fair to Crowley at all and just a lot of hand-wavy “Crowley was being ridiculous” rather than actually explaining why Crowley was doing it and how he ended up addicted in the first place. I like to imagine Cas and Crowley would have had a deeper conversation about this circa season 12 though, where Cas would hear Crowley’s side. I haven’t really considered Cas’ reaction to all that before so I’ll have to think more on it but knowing Cas, he probably would have felt a lot of sympathy.

Next… yeah as much as heIIers just love to imagine that annoying and frankly demeaning “Cas and Crowley petty catfight over the boy they both like” thing, I actually don’t think Cas had much of a clue that Crowley was in love with Dean for a while. I can’t remember anything that would indicate that other than the First Blade incident like you mentioned, so I think if Cas was going to put two and two together it would have been in that episode for sure because Crowley literally does come running and freely hands over the blade for no reason other than the fact that he likes Dean. Especially if you factor in yet another deleted scene between Cas and Crowley where they both call Dean the other’s boyfriend (yeah). You can watch that one here. Other than that, there aren’t any instances where Cas uses Crowley’s feelings for Dean against him that actually made it into the show—iirc the most Cas does along those lines is tease Crowley about wanting to save Rowena in The Foundry. So I guess I’d say Cas’ awareness of Crowley’s affection for Dean, and willingness to be petty about it, exists in a weird canon-adjacent grey area depending on how much weight you want to give cut content!

Overall though I definitely agree that Cas’ issues with Crowley are NOT about Dean and more about the way their season 6 partnership went up in flames + the whole ingrained This Is A Demon And Demons Are Abominations thing. Between Uriel referring to Ruby as a “stain” and what you mentioned about Naomi it makes sense that Cas would have a lingering sense of that as well, in conflict with (what I consider to be) a repressed fondness for Crowley.

My OWN interpretation is that Cas intentionally holds Crowley at an arm’s length and pushes him away, partly due to everything above but also because Castiel thee self-loathing angel of Thursday wholeheartedly believes Crowley should hate him. For betraying him in season 6, and then even more so the longer Cas performs antagonism toward him. He wants Crowley to hate him, he wants Crowley to give up on him, because it would be easier that way. But Crowley just doesn’t ever seem to truly hate Cas back or stop forgiving Cas for things or stop actively seeking out Cas’ company for whatever reason or discontinue his attempts at flirting (this all being due to the sheer depths of post-curing ritual Crowley’s sentimentality and desire for companionship of course—he hasn’t let Cas go and honestly can’t, because they have history and Crowley will latch onto that with anyone) and it makes Cas uneasy because he thinks he doesn’t deserve any of that from Crowley and this complicates literally all of their interactions until like literally the last third of season 12. That’s just how I imagine it though.

So I think all that plus everything else going on (and going wrong) in Cas’ life especially by season 12, between the Winchesters and heaven and Lucifer and Lily Sunder and all his guilt, I’d say that the notion that Crowley was maybe a little bit in love with him was far from top of mind until Rock Never Dies like you said, where there was definitely some kind of recognition or conversation offscreen following Crowley’s decision to stand beside Cas against Lucifer and getting beat to hell for his sake. I don’t think Cas would realise that he himself is maybe a little bit in love with Crowley until 12x12 though. I think it was you who made a post about Cas seeing Crowley bathed in blue light when he breaks the lance to save Cas’ life, and tbh I can’t pick a better moment for the realisation to click for Cas that Crowley might genuinely be the person he’s been trying to find in Dean for years. And yeah I’m sure Cas would have felt a lot of remorse and guilt, even, for pushing Crowley away for so long and not opening himself up to making amends sooner and for refusing to see Crowley for who he actually is, and so forth. I also think Cas being as messed up as he is would then feel even more unworthy or undeserving of Crowley’s positive regard in general as a result. Nothing that can’t be worked through, but Crowley would really have to beat it into his head at first and literally just be like “well too bad” to him acting like Crowley shouldn’t love him. Or at least that’s how I’d write it! I’m sure there’re other ways to work it out.

Anyway I hope this helped to answer your questions! I’m totally happy to talk more about any of this, whether it’s assessment of canon or just things from my own imagination lol.

HOKAY

I ended up... spending a lot of time just making a ref for this new OC while continuing to flesh things out for him and his story.

So! Backstory behind this guy. A friend of mine is streaming Marvel’s Spiderman Remastered for me to watch him play. And I am loving it so far, it’s great, it’s gonna make me cry when we get to Otto xD

Anyway so for some reason, clips of No Way Home have been popping up in my youtube dash, and some time ago I remember a gifset featuring Otto and OG!Peter. And I wanted to find more bits of the scene and stuff...

So then I was inspired xD

I’d like to introduce you to

Wes Wheeler! Your friendly neighborhood, wheelchair bound, Spiderman! He’s best friends with Peter Parker, a journalist, and Harry Osborn, local rich boy trying to make Oscorp better than it is.

He also works with Anna Maria aaaaand //drum roooooooll//

Doctor Otto Octavius.

Y’all ready for more under the cut? Cause settle in, I got a lot to try and write cohesively.

Now I’m drawing from the game, and said friend’s suggestions, here since that is the... most amount of knowledge I have rn so bear with me as I stitch together different scenes that I liked and a character.

Also I liked Into The Spiderverse and multiverse stories in general.

So Wes! He’s a new computer engineer specializing in AI and programming, and works with Doc Otto after having started as an intern while still studying. It was Otto that first made the wheelchair for Wes!

He’s a chill, focused boi who loves his work with Otto. Good person (trust me, I am just... bad at describing his personality other than vibes)

One day he’s invited by Peter and Harry to some special event Peter is going to be covering, which has our wayward radioactive spider. Peter narrowly dodges getting bit, and instead Wes gets bit instead.

And bing bong bang

We have Spooderman

So Wes does his best to adapt to his new abilities and responsibilities as Spiderman. It first started out with him helping people out because he happened across them, and wanted to help since he could. Which then progressed into fighting villains. So he accidentally took on that responsibility.

And then the incident with Otto happens.

When Doc turns, it hits Wes hard, because those two were actually pretty close ever since Wes started interning for him. Otto wanted to help people like Wes and Anna in a world that wasn’t built for them. In this world, the arms were actually meant for WES.

But when the Doc’s funding was pulled by Norman Osborne, he got desperate. He needed SOMETHING to work so that they could get the funding to continue their work. So he tested the arms on himself... and things went haywire

(I have spent a long time coming up with my own explanation for what went wrong, believe me when I say I accidentally got really attached to Otto)

This is when responsibility REALLY clocks Wes in the head.

... At a very bad time because now is the starting point for a depressive spiral.

He’s the AI guy. He programmed the AI in those arms (He didn’t know it was for the arms, but it was AI for the prosthetics in general to connect to the brain). What happened?

He wants to figure out what happened, and fix it and help Doc, BUT! He can’t do it exactly without the current AI in those arms. He can make simulations and run those (and he has) and try to use those on Doc Ock (and he has) but they could never work (as they haven’t)

Harry and Peter do their best, with Harry recovering several chunks of tech his dad took from their lab (Harry is VERY pissed off with his dad, and blames him for what happened to Doc Otto), while Peter (and Anna, who discovers Wes is Spiderman after catching him passed out one late night in the now abandoned lab) provides emotional support.

But it then goes to hell in a hand basket.

(Shamelessly taking THIS from the video game because it is an excellent plot point)

Wes is with Peter again, attending some outdoor ceremony when spidey sense kicks in that there’s danger. But Wes is trapped in a crowd. He can’t move, he can’t quite see being so low compared to all the standing people, he’s stuck there as Wes.

He only has enough time to get Peter to the ground before the attack and he blacks out.

He wakes up at hospital, having to hear the news of what happened from Peter, who also (unfortunately) tells him that the readers have been flooding the line with questions as to where Spiderman was.

He was there. But he couldn’t do anything.

This just hits him harder. He can’t do everything alone. He’s only one person. What is he supposed to do?

So here is where he starts making the Drones and Spiderbot

So prior to the attack, Wes had been job hunting for a higher paying job because he kinda needs the money to continue his work to try and help Doc and also LIVE.

After the attack, ironically enough, he does get a job! It’s an emergency acceptance as they need another AI programmer for a game they’re behind on. But this added work just stresses Wes out even more!

He can’t help the city, work on a cure for Otto, and his day job all at once!

So he repurposes an armored suit (I will explain later trust me) and makes the Drones at first who can keep an eye on the city and handle smaller scale stuff, equipped with web bombs and their tiny size (and wings sometimes)

Then when the work gets harder, he makes Spiderbot. Spiderbot does the bigger stuff, like fighting villians n’stuff.

The workload gets lighter and the city is still safe. Win win! Right?

Well.. for everything EXCEPT Wes’ mind. Because when things finally ease up, he tries (admittedly half-heartedly cause depression) to get back into it with Spiderbot, He just... can’t.

The bot is better at this.

Better than him.

So Wes steps away from being Spiderman.

(I would like to add that Anna AND the Bot do not approve of this? But the Bot does what he’s told and Anna does her best)

6 months pass (from the Attack, a year after Otto becomes Ock) (note I have a poor sense of time and have no idea how long a time gap should be), life has gone on, when suddenly SHENANIGANS

MULTIVERSE SHENANIGANS (yes here’s the spiderverse shenanigans)

(Idk if it’ll be the actual spiderverse crew or other ones but basically-)

So at the back of all this, Norman has had a team working on a big ... dimension opening collider (probs not a collider but I just started calling it that) and the first few tests go... Not as planned? The targeting system is off so it accidentally pulls in other Spiders and sends them scattered around the city.

They all manage to get together by running into Peter, who then introduces them to Wes! They end up hanging around Wes and start to rekindle the fire in him (even though he’s still really reluctant, thinking the bot can do better)

Until a good chunk of his villains come out in full force, headed by Wes’ main villain (Other than Ock) (Said villain I have dubbed Mirror cause they’re... not quite a mirror character? more like a foil? but basically they’re similar to Wes) and are aiming for the Collider! The spiders try to fight, but then get hit with the celular decay which throws them off just long enough to get beaten and caught

And Wes, who is at this point desperately working with Spiderbot from afar to try and win, is not having a good time! Not at all. Because the bot gets defeated from, ironically, being the only one there. The bot tried but got beat bad.

So now it’s only him.

His phone buzzes with messages from Harry that SOMETHING is going down at some facility he just found out was there, and is basically calling for Wes, Peter, and Anna to come back him up on the grilling he’s gonna give his dad when he gets there.

Anna calls him about what’s going on and Wes panics cause there’s no way he can do this, he can’t do it on his own. To which Anna verbally smacks him and says he had Spiderbot, he had the other Spidermen, and he HAS them. Even if Harry and Pete don’t know, he’s always had them to fall back on. It’s Wes who now has to properly believe in himself, cause everyone else does.

He’s mulling this over after the call when the drones drag in the half busted Spiderbot and Wes helps the poor thing in all the way, trying to find all the repair tools he can. Finally the bot itself tells him that he can do this, he did all this after all, don’t give up now.

This finally kicks Wes in the ass and he gears up to head out, the Bot hanging onto the back of the wheel chair as the drones try to repair it.

And here he rediscovers the joy of being Spiderman. Because of all things, he missed swinging around the city, seeing the view from so high up. Because up here, not even the wheelchair is a burden.

And he’s honestly missed helping people, even if it was the small mundane things.

So Wes as Spiderman shows up to the Collider and the whole group that’s there (Harry, Peter, Anna, and now him) get the run down from Norman and the scientists about shit, and they find out that both the CONTROL PANEL and the EMERGENCY PANEL are INSIDE the open portal to the multiverse (because it’s open to the space between all the dimensions and not one specifically)

Harry gets Spiderbot up and running with some magical nanites (to his father’s chagrin) and Wes goes in to A: Find the other Spiders, B: Subdue the villains inside, and C: Shut the thing down cause it’s ripping up the world bit by bit.

Wes heads inside and finds that in this middle space, several things from other universes are being pulled out from their dimensions by Mirror at the very end of this strange train of buildings n shit with that control panel.

So Wes goes through, trying to stay unknown to the villians for as long as he can. He sends the Bot after the other Spiders while he makes his way to Mirror.

Things go as plan until the Spiders get caught up by 2 villians and Wes ends up facing Ock in a building above them. Wes manages to hold his own against Ock and pins his arms to the large glass window behind them with the spider bombs he had created, and all the other gear he had made when he went MIA from the city.

So he pins the arms and pulls Ock back away, driving back up this floor-now-wall to stretch the arms to the limit and hold Doc in place, right up to him. (the reason is to keep the arms from thrashing just long enough because now, he has a chance to try and extract the AI in those arms, which is what a drone is doing at that moment.)

He ends up having a (one-sided, but Wes needed to say this) talk with Ock about maybe feeling abandoned, he sure abandoned being Spiderman, but he hadn’t stopped trying to save Doc Otto. Because this really isn’t him, they-he were going to make things better dammit. So he isn’t going to stop trying to help Otto.

And, once the Drone is done, he releases Ock in order to send him crashing through the glass and into the battle that was GOING ON BELOW THEM and buy the spiders there some time to get the upper hand while Wes keeps going for Mirror.

More fight shenanigans, the other Spiders do get the upper hand and Bot sacrifices parts of himself to send the webbed up villains back towards the portal entrance and out of the space. The whole group then joins up with Wes, who is in battle with mirror, trying to get to the Control Panel.

They get the upper hand again with Wes’ different fighting style and actually break the control panel, which starts reversing all the stuff that Mirror did, and send Mirror ricocheting back towards the entrance.

The spiders find they’re also being called back home (along with all the stuff and buildings in this space) and bid Wes farewell as he takes on the task of shutting down the machine with the emergency panel cause THINGS HAVE BEEN GETTING KINDA CRAZY BACK HOME.

So they all head home, Wes reaches the emergency panel, hits shut off, and slingshots himself back through the portal in time before the machine shuts down and the portal closes.

Portal closed, day saved, Wes has renewed life in him, and the thing he’s been trying to get his hands on since Day 1: An extracted copy of the arms’ current AI.

Harry declares that he’s taking on this part of Oscorp (After all, he’s probably going to run this place someday, he might as well start learning now) but he swears to god if his dad has more dangerous world ending projects he is going to flip (spoilers, he does)

And this post is getting very long so I will.. summarize the rambling xDD

Wes starts work on the AI, goes to Harry with Anna to reveal himself and ask for help, they start work together, Peter’s work place gets infiltrated by a Spy, Mirror persuades Ock to work with them, at some point there’s a miscommunication and Mirror thinks that Spiderman and Harry have the thing she’s after

They break in, Wes has to choose between saving their prototype (big clunky thing rn) or saving Harry and Anna, chooses to save his friends, He and the bot branch off, saves the friends, villains get away, Harry absolutely lays into his father about what the hell was it that he was nearly KILLED over this time (Because the villains went to gloat at Norman)

Mirror opens the box, finds the prototype instead of the thing she was after, smashes it, shards get stuck in Ock (which actually help)

More shenanigans, Wes gets the shards out and they make a cure proper, Mirror gets the mcguffin, final fight, Spiderbot handles Mirror while Wes goes for Ock, manages to subdue him, gets the fix on //points to No Way Home// and THEN goes to deal with Mirror as Doc Otto reveals he actually was working on a counter mcguffin because no way do you trust Mirror completely. They go get the mcguffin counter as Wes fights, they get it to him, Wes gets crafty with a mannequin, wins the fight, day is saved- HOORAY WE WIN

I mixed up the two constants a bit actually. The two constants are that Spiderman was bitten by a radioactive spider, and they lost someone close to them.

In this case, the 2nd followed the first way later in the form of losing Doc Otto.

Anyway Imma put the rest of the art I got here (it’s just the suit and other bits) and talk about THOSE NOW

Wes’ suit! + Optional armor. The armor used to be part of a suit that was given to Wes (the origin and explanation for the suit is in that google doc) that was eventually turned into the drone, braces, and the arm guards. They all click and snap together and to him in different configurations. Like if Wes needed, he could potentially turn the hip armor into full on gloves (this is thanks to the tech already in the armor, he just reprogrammed them.)

And now, for Wes’ powers, some other stuff about Spiderbot, and the wheelchair.

The bite did biological changes to dear ol Wes. He can still climb stuff, he’s got more strength, and the Spideysense.

But also doesn’t need webshooters. Wes can generate his own silk, and a lot of it (He needs to use a lot of web). He just needs to drink more water a lot more often to keep it up. So he keeps water bottles on hand.

His freckles also ended up mimicking spider eyes, somewhat. They still look like three big spots under each eye, but they can function. So if he’s ever blinded, he can still SOMEWHAT see. It’s not perfect but can still do it.

The web he shoots also is very stretchy, allowing for Wes to use it like a slingshot ooooor make a battle yo-yo to hit with.

And of course, THE CHAIR

Wes’ wheelchair was at first made by Doc Otto sometime after Wes started working for him. When Wes became spiderman, this thing needed a LOT of modifications, most of it coming from lab materials or Harry. He can now also use it to whack people around with it if he needs to, but more importantly, this thing can handle impacts, landings, and can drive up walls.

8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?

It was October. I was extremely depressed due to RL circumstances. I just finished watching another playthru of Until Dawn, and was wondering whether SMG did other games like that. Discovered Man of Medan, did a little more research, and found out a new game was coming out called House of Ashes and it was getting good reviews, like best game since Until Dawn.

My partner's sister and their GF was visiting for Halloween weekend. I decided, maybe we can buy this game and play it altogether as a fun treat. We got really drunk and high and picked our characters. I loved Nick Tarabay in Spartacus and Salim was also the only non-US military character, so obviously I zeroed in on him and vowed to keep him alive no matter what. (We hated Jason BTW lmao but when we realized that the character my partner picked was fucking the character their sister picked, we switched things around and my partner played Jason, doing a phenomenal job).

So, dressed up as a fembot from Austin Powers, I kicked ass through the temple, made it out alive with Jason and Rachel, and went straight to tumblr to reblog some aesthetic gifsets. That's where I found there was a whole fandom brewing and a discord server. I was really going through a dark spiral and was severely alone, so I decided to get back into fandom after having been out for several years. AND YOU KNOW WHAT, it's a silly game, but I'm happy I did it.

20. Any ships which you surprised yourself by liking?

No brainer on this one. Jason/Salim, cuz I remember sitting down with my partner and having this lengthy conversation, being like this is fucked up and I don't know how it'll ever work. Now I'm writing domestic suburban AUs where they're gonna get married and have kids.

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

It has been a long night and you look like you need to rest." Jason looked back into the shepherd's hut where he abandoned his backpack and broken radio. As far as Top Brass was concerned, he was a dead man. Lord knows, he should be. There was no way he was going to walk away clean from that. How was he going to explain himself? The deaths of his squadmates and superiors were on his hands. He'd be marching into a court martial and dishonorable discharge. Maybe it was exhaustion that had him seriously considering Salim's offer. He needed to rest, like Salim said, and then he'll figure out what to do from there. "Sure," he responded in defeat. "Why not." *** Jason and Salim are the sole survivors after a hellish night. Feeling like he has no other options, Jason agrees to go home with Salim and things get more complicated from there.

My Personal Weatherman Live Blogging

Haven't watched a new jBL in soo long, I'm excited, especially because this had dubcon, undefined, weird dynamics with BDSM undertones? overtones? not sure but I've heard something to that degree and have seen a couple gifs: The bound hands one is the most prominent and I've seen it a few times but I decided to actually consider watching this after seeing this gifset about "you life is all mine" like oh you guys are kinda fucked

The concept is so delicious wtf and the execution is mostly good but I wish it was more fleshed out (never really saw a proper resolution to Yoh being mad that Mizuki doesn't take his manga job seriously and idk if they actually fully worked out their problems in the last ep lol). It was a very fun and exciting watch.

okay so i said physical affection for one bc like he seem to like initiate contact with people around him a lot

like in interviews he be having his hand on whoever next to him thigh or like when he be performing if it’s someone next to him he throws his arms around them a lot

not to mention like whenever jimin or jk or whoever start feeling up on him he never rejects it or makes a face or anything like yoongi does he just accepts it

like there’s so many stage clips where jimin will come and rest his chin on joon’s shoulder and he just lets him

or jk will just start touching on him some way grabbing his arms or sumn and it doesn’t phase him at all

another example is like on day 2 of sowoozoo when tae randomly came and linked arms with him and hobi during mikrokosmos hobi was like 🥴🥴 but joon was just 😌

and then there was that magic shop muster moment when jk was talking about how much he loved joon and how he was his beginning you know as president of the joon fan club does and namjoon couldn’t help but to go over and give his number one admirer a hug you know the moment

and i think it was on the canada run bts episode where jk bought him those slippers and he was super happy

i’ll talk about that time they were backstage for a show and they had them blow up mattresses and suga was minding his business resting and jk just rolled up and moved his legs and laid beside him and then hobi decided to pile on top

What made you ship it? Jaimie and Sully are just so amazing at making the characters say things, without actually saying anything. I actually started having shippy Jeller feels from a gifset of the 1x10 kisses - didn't know what the show was about, but Kurt's little smile in between their kisses just hooked me. But when I actually started watching the show (probably about 18 months later!), it was the interrogation room first meeting between them, and Jane touching Kurt's face as she tried so hard to remember him. And obviously, lots of moments after that!

What are your favourite things about the ship? I like the complexity and the angstiness - the assumptions that both of them make from the start, the way they react to finding out new things about each other (good and bad), and the way they're not immune to fucking things up. I'd argue that Reller is a whole other ship, but obviously, I love it in relation to Jeller's progress as a couple, too. And I adore their hands-on-hearts moments, and their heart-eyes. 😍 And the mutual 🌲🌲🌲!

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? Everyone knows by now that I am NOT a huge fan of Jeller having kids. I also prefer them in early seasons, before they got together and became weirdly chaste and lost most of their chemistry. I mean, I know the excitement fades in a relationship over time, but... O_o

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed Episode 19, part two

The Man Comes Around

Over at the Wen Indoctrination Tower, which seems to exist just to torture Lan Wangji with stair climbing, Lan Wangji is climbing the stairs. Too bad his cultivation level is too low to be able to just jump up. At least this time his leg isn't broken.

This is the first vengeful stair-climb in the show, but not the last. (Parallel gifset here).

The Wen guards are stationed all the way at the pinnacle of this tower to guard...what? Why are they not at the bottom of the stairs? What is this location for, actually? This is further up the stairs than the scenes with the indoctrination lectures. Anyway, it's been three months since Wen Chao threw Wei Wuxian into the burial mounds, so naturally these guards are talking about that exact thing as Lan Wangji approaches.

Lan Wangji knocks them all down with a blast from his guqin. Did you know his guqin is named Wangji, by the way? It is. A guy who is that lazy about naming his quqin maybe shouldn't feel so superior to a guy who named his sword "whatever."

(I'm suddenly remembering a plush lamb I had as a child, whose eyes were orange, that I named "orange eyes.") (I, however, was three. And I had a lot of plush lambs. Little ones. Grown-ups found it hilarious to give them to me.) (Native speakers of English can probably guess what OP's real name is. Hint: it rhymes with Canary.) Anyhoo, after Lan Wangji is finally finished with his dramatic entrance, Jiang Cheng comes flying in from wherever he's been hovering for the past 20 minutes of stair time. A bunch of Lan sidekicks also flood into the frame from wherever they were hiding during the wide shots of LWJ on the staircase.

He uses the patented Lan string attack to choke this guard. Lan Wangji doesn't have to hold a guqin string in his hands to choke someone with it. He doesn't even have to tighten it, judging by how absurdly not-tight this string is.

The Wen guard tells Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng about the whole "thrown into the burial mounds" thing. Team Let's Find Wei Wuxian is not happy to hear this.

A Vengeful Ghost

Meanwhile, in some Wen office somewhere? Where the hell is this? Yiling, we get an ominous shot of the rooftops where Wei Wuxian is lurking and then we see Wang Lingjiao trying to sleep and having a nightmare.

Wang Lingjiao has gone to sleep with a full face of makeup on instead of washing her face before bed. She has forgotten the important maxim, Go To Sleep Pretty, Wake Up Zitty.

She leaps out of bed to go cling to Wen Chao and freak out about Wei Wuxian's ghost. Wen Chao is trying to read the sports section and has clearly had enough of this crap. This has presumably been going on for a little while now.

Wang Lingjiao is in a new outfit, which is...pajamas? It has the feel of a 1930's French peignoir set, and it's much more softly colored than her usual bright red-purple combo. If this is her pajamas is it weird that her day clothes are a lot more aggressively sexy-looking than her nightgown? A freak in the streets but a lady in the sheets.

Wen Chao rants about the Sunshot Campaign and talks some smack about Wen Qing, and then leaves to go to the bar and watch the game with Wen Zhuliu. After he leaves Wang Lingjiao freaks out for a bit and then looks at the notice he was reading.

The notice basically says that the Sunshot Campaign is kicking their ass. She should be proud for inspiring the name of the campaign with that kite-shooting bullshit she made up at Lotus Pier. Before slaughtering everyone.

No Matter What You Do, I Only Want To Be With You

Back at the Indoctrination Tower, Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng are having feelings about Wei Wuxian. Jiang Chang does all the talking but Lan Wangji's thoughts are louder because a sad violin is playing Wangxian while they talk.

Jiang Cheng tells Lan Wangji about their meetup plan and says he thought WWX had dumped him to go find Lan Wangji in Lanling. Lan Wangji telepathically indicates that this didn’t happen. This means two things: 1. Lan Wangji has been hanging out in Lanling, where Jiang Yanli has been hanging out, so maybe they have bonded over the past 3 months and 2. This is the first time Jiang Cheng has talked to Lan Wangji since Wei Wuxian disappeared.

Much as my fic-loving heart would like to believe these two spent three months on the road together looking for Wei Wuxian, in fact they are both important high-level fighters in an active military campaign, and Lan Wangji was busy taking back the Cloud Recesses while Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian were having elective surgery. They probably both were assigned to the "Indoctrination Bureau" mission and this is the first chance they've had to talk about Wei Wuxian.

Is it heartbreaking that, while Wei Wuxian was helplessly getting his ass beat because he'd sacrificed his golden core for Jiang Cheng, Jiang Cheng believed Wei Wuxian had abandoned him for Lan Wangji? Yes. Yes it is.

For some reason Jiang Cheng is hesitant to believe that Wei Wuxian really was thrown into the Burial Mounds. I mean, I understand not wanting to believe Wei Wuxian is dead, but given that Wen Chao is the dude who oversaw the massacre of all of the people at Lotus Pier, including kids, why would Jiang Cheng think his guards are wrong? Maybe he just feels like Wei Wuxian is invincible, since so far he kinda has been.

The Sword is Mightier Than Not Having a Sword

While they've been chatting, the Lan disciples have found their swords. One disciple is holding Bichen (LWJ's sword), Sandu (JC's sword), and OP consults wiki Suihua (Jin Zixuan's sword). Another disciple is holding Subian (WWX's sword).

Jiang Cheng grabs Sandu while the Lan disciples, who apparently know their gongzi’s heart, offer Wei Wuxian's sword to Lan Wangji.

Lan Wangji takes Subian (Bichen: What am I, chopped watercress?) and immediately tries to draw it. Like you don't do. It's sealed itself, which apparently means that it's upset. It's unclear if it's upset because Wei Wuxian is dead or if it just misses him, however.

Lan Wangji definitely misses him, and wonders, out loud inside his own head, where Wei Wuxian is. Um, he's in the Burial Mounds, dude, they just told you. Well, I guess he's actually in Yiling proper at this point, haunting Wang Lingjiao as he promised her he would.

Twa Corbies

The scene shifts to Qinghe, where there are about 12 dead bodies lying around, which in this show means that there are really a few hundred. In fact, per Jiang Yanli's statement "nothing can be seen but corpses covering the plains." The camera can't see most of them, is all.

Wen Xu's head is hanging in the doorway, and the Jins talk about how Nie Mingjue killed him, cutting his head off with just one swing. Is this foreshadowing anything, like perhaps someone else's head being cut off by Baxia in just one swing? Nope, definitely not.

A couple of crows are perched on a body, totally not eating it, but Jin Zixuan gallantly zaps them with a talisman to make them fly away anyway. It might be noteworthy that nobody used to use talismans but gradually more and more people are using them - particularly people who have spent time with Wei Wuxian.

With mony a lock of his golden hair-o, we’ll theek our nest when it grows bare-o

Asshole cousin Jin Zixun says “scavenger rights,” so Jin Zixuan puts him in charge of collecting all the bodies.

Since OP just finished watching fur-collar-happy Nirvana in Fire, these crows look to me like they are wearing luxurious fur collars. Where OP lives, crows are not this fancy.

A Romantic Corpse-Filled Interlude

Disaster het Jin Zixuan goes to help Jiang Yanli get out of the carriage but she rejects his hand just like he rejected hers back in Gusu.

Jiang Yanli is extremely shocked when she sees Wen Xu's severed head, and turns away in horror, preferring to calmly rest her eyes on dozens of crow-pecked corpses.

Jin Zixuan tries to comfort her and she tells him she'll be going now, thanks for the hospitality. He tries to say that he has to personally deliver her to a representative of the patriarchy one of her brothers, but then one of her brothers shows up.

Lan Wangji and Jiang Cheng arrive, having presumably flown there from Qishan. They show that they are flying by blowing a fan on the ground and then jumping off of a box, which is better than the effects we were subjected to earlier in the episode.

Jiang Cheng rushes over to have an emotional reunion with Jiang Yanli, while Lan Wangji rushes over to have an emotional reunion with Wen Xu’s severed head. Jin Zixuan kind of spoils it for him by talking about Wei Wuxian's absence while Lan Wangji is trying to have a moment.

The whole time Jin Zixuan is talking to him, Lan Wangji appears to be gazing into the middle distance but in fact he is staring at Wen Xu's severed head. This is the guy who led the burning of Cloud Recesses, killed a bunch of disciples, and personally broke Lan Wangji's leg. Lan Wangji stares at his head for more than a full minute before glancing away.

Jiang Yanli hasn't seen Jiang Cheng since they were in Wen Qing's clinic, and she is happy he's recovered. When she asks about Wei Wuxian he gives her the bad news in the classic Jiang fashion, which is to say nothing, but look stricken until your interlocutor figures out that something is horribly wrong, but not precisely what.

Four Angry Men

Inside the fortress, Nie Mingjue is slapping the table and saying, this bad boy can hold so much resentment and vengeance. They're having a mini war council and we're getting a better sense of Nie Mingjue's anger management problem. Note for those who don't get the gif reference: this is a The Godfather joke, not a sex joke, but it can be both, if you like.

We're also getting a little more info about Baxia, who seems to be eager to go fight even without anyone wielding it. (Her? Him? Them? do swords have gender? I don't know). Well done, person below the camera frame whose job is to rattle Baxia in a menacing manner.

They've got a giant model of the battle targets, which looks like it was carved out of real rock (I mean, as much as any of the rocks on this show look like real rocks) and has its own table and everything, decorated in Nie colors. Where was this before they took Qinghe back? Has Nie Mingjue been traveling with it?

Anyway, I'm assuming Nie Huaisang made it, because it's pretty nice. Hopefully they will keep it around for tabletop gaming after the war is over.

Jiang Cheng is upset but is using his anger management mantra to help control his temper while Jin Zixuan and Lan Wangji talk with Nie Mingjue.

Lan Wangji talks by leaning forward meaningfully, mostly not by using any words, but he asks for a battle assignment and Jiang Cheng immediately joins in. They both want to go find Wei Wuxian.

Nie Mingjue says Yiling is too difficult of a target, but Lan Wangji puts on his determined face, which is apparently very persuasive.

After Team Find Wei Wuxian leaves, Nie Mingjue asks Jin Zixuan to hang back so he can ask him how Meng Yao is doing. This is the first time he finds out that his ex didn't go to Lanling. Jin Zixuan tries to delicately remind him that Dad's got, like, SO many bastard children, they really don't have space for all of them. Nie Mingjue dismisses him immediately and abruptly.

Nie Mingjue might invite the straights to his party but he isn't interested in actually socializing with them.

Unconditional Soup is Only for A-Xian

Jiang Cheng can't sleep, and takes some time, now, to be sad about Wei Wuxian. Presumably he spent the prior 3 months being mad, not sad, because he really thought he just buggered off without saying anything for all that time. Which is sort of fair, but sort of not. One thing about these two bros is that for as close as they have been and as much as they love each other, their mutual understanding has some big, messy gaps.

Fortunately while he is feeling sad, Jiang Cheng does not try to draw Subian from its sheath, because wouldn't THAT be awkward.

Jiang Yanli can't sleep either, and comes to sit with him. Jiang Cheng feels bad that she's wearing herself out with worry and she says "As your sister, I have nothing to do but to worry about you." Jiang Yanli isn't one to complain but she doesn't like being inactive or helpless. In Lanling she was far from the war, but now that she's in Qinghe she'll make herself useful by tending the wounded, and later she'll help Jiang Cheng shoulder his responsibilities as he takes over the Jiang clan.

At the moment, however, all she can do is fret and make soup. As she gives Jiang Cheng a bowlful she reminds him that he absolutely has to rescue their brother who has, according to his captors, been reduced to bone dust.

With all the impossible shit that Jiang Cheng is expected to achieve - and in many instances, does achieve - he is absolutely the embodiment of the Jiang Clan's motto. Fuck his father for disrespecting him because he hadn't figured out how to do everything by the age of 16.

Definitely Not Chilling in Yiling

Back in Yiling, Wen Chao is hearing the news that the Qishan Indoctrination Bureau has fallen and that he's being called back to Nightless City. Wen Chao says he shouldn't need to go back because his dad has a new right-hand man. That new right-hand man, we will eventually learn, is Meng Yao. Wang Lingjiao, meanwhile, is hiding under the bed covers and deciding it's time to dump Wen Chao.

She locks the door and goes to pull out her jewelry box, which is locked and hidden under the bed. Maybe this is Wen Chao's jewelry box, because she acts kind of squirrely about opening it. Upon opening the jewelry box, she doesn't find jewelry but a pair of bloody fake eyeballs staring at her. She screams and freaks out and then the wind picks up and we hear the sound of a flute, playing the "I'm here to fuck your shit up" tune that Wei Wuxian likes.

Wang Lingjiao runs to the door and pulls down the protection talisman that's pasted above it, and pastes it directly to her chest instead, which is, we will learn in the next episode, the worst idea she could possibly have at this point.

Then she uses a poking stick to go flip the jewelry box open and finds it's full of ugly-ass jewelry again, plus an improbable number of weird round paper-mache biscuits that have been painted gold. None of this jewelry looks anything like the exquisite accessories people wear in this show, which means this stash was put together by the practical effects department, not by the costume department.

Anyway, Wang Lingjiao apparently thinks she can sell this fakeass stuff for a good price, so more power to her. But then we get a short glimpse of the menacing eyeballs again, this time on the floor, having moved out of the box and brought their little blood pool with them. Screeching ensues.

“You’re prepared for tonight?” Dale asked. You crossed your arms to protect from the chill in the air. You nodded stiffly.

“I am.”

“Remember, something fancy that isn’t too flashy. I’m sure you’ll be fine though,” he promised. You nodded again.

“I’ll throw something together. You don’t be too flashy though huh?” you teased. The two of you stopped in the hallway you were walking down. You were standing in front of each other's hotel rooms, which were separate.

“I’ll try my best,” he digressed. You nodded and leaned against your doorway before turning around and opening it, slipping inside.

You and Dale were new partners. You had been friends for ages but only in passing. It wasn’t until your partner died that you were able to actually work together. You had done a few cases together but this was the first one you had to go undercover for. It was odd, seeing Dale in this kind of setting. He was very good at what he did and you were very good at what you did. You should have been paired together years ago.

You looked through your suitcase for something to wear. You were going to go and try and seek out one of the murderers of Laura Palmer. Dale had a theory that he would be there tonight and you weren’t about to question him when he really got going.

The plan was to gamble, act natural, fend off any woman and get the information you needed. You weren’t that worried.

You picked out a dress that you had been saving for a special occasion. Just your style and the fit of it always made you feel good. You were kind of excited to wear something that wasn’t casual. You were also excited to hang out with Dale. You knew the other local police force would be there but you figured this was the closest you were going to get to a night out with Dale.

There was a knock on your door five minutes before you were supposed to meet everyone in the lobby. You ran your hands over your hair one more time, checked yourself out in the mirror and then opened the door.

Dale was wearing a fancier suit than usual, his hair slicked back and a pair of fake glasses over his eyes. You smiled, raising your hands to his bowtie to fix it as it was kind of crooked.

“You clean up nice Coop,” you admitted. “Not that you aren’t already clean most of the time,” you joked.

Dale was awe struck. He had thought he might have feelings for you but only in passing, never in actuality. But you stood in front of him, wearing that fancy dress, your hair done up all nice. He couldn’t help but feel his emotions come forward in full force.

“Cooper?” you said as he hadn’t answered you.

“You look absolutely stunning,” he admitted. You smiled and looked down at your outfit like you weren’t even aware you had been wearing it.

“You think?”

“I know.” His voice had a low grumble to it that you didn’t recognize. It made you let out a stiff shortness of breath. You had to look away from his face.

“Well we should probably go, Harry and everyone will be waiting.” He seemed to snap out of it then. He cleared his throat.

“You’re right. You have your gamabling cash?” he questioned.

“I can’t gamble. I figured I’d just be your arm candy,” you admitted through a laugh. He put his hand on his hip, creating an arm holder for you. You wrapped your arm around his arm and smiled, walking next to him.

Harry and Ed stood in the lobby. They eyed the two of you, especially Harry who had been hearing the end of both of your emotions.

“You look real good,” Ed said, eyeing your outfit. Dale almost got defensive but he held it down.

“Thank you very much Ed.”

The night started swiftly enough. You managed to strip away from Dale for a moment and walk around the room, eyeing the area as he started to play a card game. You watched him from afar and navigated through the room. Harry hung back and grabbed your arm gently, pulling you aside.

“If you don’t make a move tonight I’m going to lose my goddamn mind,” he said. You laughed gently.

“We’re on a case, Sheriff Truman,” you whispered. He raised an eyebrow.

“Fine. Look over at Cooper right now and tell me what you’re feeling about this case.” You rolled your eyes and looked back over at Dale. There was a girl on his lap, whispering in his ear. You couldn’t see his expression because she was blocking but you had to give it to Harry. It got to you.

“Just focus Harry,” you muttered.

“Only if you do.”

You walked back to the other side of the room and the girl was off Dale’s lap. You pushed it out of your head. You didn’t want to think about it.

Dale however, was only looking at you. He was trying so hard to focus on the task at hand but he felt the tension in the air. It wrapped around him like a present waiting to be opened. His eyes were always flashing back to you and you were always watching him until you weren’t.

Harry’s hand wrapped around your arm as he pulled you aside. Whispers between the two of you. His chest started to rise and fall and he was going to lose this game of cards and then there was a woman on his lap and he had to tell her to leave because he was only focused on you and he should have been focused on the case.

Eventually though he was able to talk to a man who knew more about Laura's death. He was able to get information he came for. And the second that conversation ended he walked up to Harry.

“I need a drin-“

“Cooper,” you called, standing beside the two of them.

“Hold on a second, I want a-”

“Coop,” you repeated.

“Y/N I-”

“Dale,” you hissed. You had his full attention. His eyes were back on you now and everything he had just been about to say was gone. “Please tell us what happened to Laura.” Harry raised his finger.

“Will you write it down in the report?” Dale nodded and let out a harsh breath.

“I’m going to talk to Ed,” you said and gave Harry a look. You walked over there and let Dale spit out whatever it was that he wasn’t able to say in one sentence. Harry seemed to appreciate it and he understood more about what happened to Laura.

“What are you doing over here?” Ed asked.

“Getting Dale a drink before he passes out from whatevers bothering him,” you muttered. You raised your hand and quickly ordered Dale’s regular.

“I think it’s you,” Ed muttered.

“Huh?”

“Listen, speaking as a man, I think it’s you,” he repeated. You furrowed your brows. Before you could ask for more clarification Dale grabbed your arm which surprised you. You were holding his drink in your hand.

“This is for-” you started and he took the drink, handed it to Ed and dragged you away. You had barely gotten out of view before his lips were on yours. He pressed you flush against the wall of one of the off rooms in the lodge he had managed to find. You pulled away to breath and he looked at you. You had never seen his eyes look like that. Filled with want.

You kissed him again with more fire behind your own lips and he took that happily. He picked up your leg and hiked it up on his side. You let him. After a few moments of the most intense make out session you had ever had you had to pull away.

“We have to go and follow up on the information you got from that guy,” you whispered. You fixed his glasses and he fixed your dress. He let out a long sigh and nodded, pulling himself together. He knew you were right.

“Later,” he promised. You walked back into the main room and grabbed Dale’s drink from Ed to hand to him.

“Drink up. I’m going to talk to Harry.” Dale watched you go and then quickly followed, taking a drink of the one you had gotten for him.

Hi! Your gifs are so cool! Is there any chance you might make a tutorial on how you make them?

Heyyy, first of thank you I’m glad you like them <3

I’d be happy to do a tutorial for you, though I will forewarn you I have a tendency to ramble when trying to explain how to do stuff, so I’ll try to keep it simple but accurate to how I make them :3

Ok so I’m gonna try and keep it simple by showing a tutorial of the current gifset I’m working on which is gonna be part of my “Steve Harrington in Every Episode” series/project whatever you wanna call it. (I don’t know whether it was all my gifs or maybe a particular set or series you found cool so I’m just rolling on my Stranger Things gif obsession right now haha ^.^;)

To start off I know gifmakers all have different ways of getting the eps/clips/footage they need for they’re gifs (torrents, youtube clips, etc.) I recently started using my old Elgato Game Capture card to record the clips I need from Netflix/Disney+/Wherever (I rarely use it for it’s intended gaming streaming purposes so I use it mainly for this now...)

So to start off I load up photoshop (normally loading up the psd I’m gonna use first depending on the gif I’m making). Then go to file > import > video frames to layers

I find the clip I want to use and crop down to the scene I want from said clip, normally (if it lets me depending on how long the scene is) leaving some wriggle room between each scene so I get the shot I want, then click ok and it loads it into a frame animation timeline.

From there I cut down to the frames I want and crop the gif to the size I want, for this series I usually have kinda a portrait style to focus on Steve.

When it’s all cropped down I then click the 3 lines on the right hand end of the timeline frame and select flatten frames into layers (for some people it’s not necessary depending on how they sharpen their gifs but this is how I have to do it).

That then adds the frame layers in place, the layers that were originally there I normally delete to not clog up what I’m working on but it’s not necessary and just a personal preference.

I then click the same button as above again and then click select all frames so that I can adjust the speed of the frames, normally when I import the clip to PS it has a setting of 0.03 (which I find is too fast) and then change it to 0.04

(phew this is taking a while, any questions so far? i feel like i’ve probably missed some already haha)

Some of the above doesn’t need to be done in this order either it’s just the way I’m explaining and remembering it right now.

So now is the point where I size the gif down to the tumblr dimensions, this particular gifset will have the 268px width dimension, though more recently I’ve just been doing the 540px widths now I’m a little unrestrained on the old size caps

Now we finally get to sharpening the gif and get to the fun stuff. So I made my own smart sharpening action that can do up to 200 frames of a gif (if i knew how to save and upload it for you guys I would but I have no clue T.T) I used to use a different action someone else made but just found it wasn’t working for me anymore (it just didn’t make my gifs as nice and crisp as i’d like them to look)

So for smart sharpening in general you go to filter > sharpen > smart sharpen

(Forgive me I’m raging right now as my print screen key is being selective as to what it is allowing me to capture for you)

I don’t remember the actual setting for it when I made it but they are similar to this;

You can see it looks crisper now, and before we start editing it should look a little like this:

Now obviously this isn’t the final product, not by a long shot but we’re getting there haha. Like I said right back at the beginning I normally have psd’s ready and waiting to use on my gifs, so now it’s just a step-by-step of the layers/adjusts I use to make the final product.

I normally start of with a brightness/contrast, the setting depends on the scene but I take the contrast down to -50 to start off with and add brightness.

Not much of a difference so far but you can see it’s brightened up the gif a little.

Next I use a curves adjustment layer:

Again nothing to major, and again editing the curve layer depends on how you want the gif to look overall, sometime I use it to add more contrast but for this series I keep it like this.

Then I add another layer of brightness/contrast

(I’m all about that brightness/contrast layer...maybe a bit too much lol)

Then we get to the colouring of the gif (and depending on the gif either my favourite part of least favourite part haha)

I start off with the colour balance layer, and adjust it to each setting on how I want the gif to look;

Then I add a selective colouring, which allows me to tweak certain colours

I often find myself taking colour out of the yellow and/or red because I often find with my editing people the skin tone doesn’t look right (it’s why I'm always questioning my colouring skills for my gifs). Again editing depends on the colours of the scene, there’s no green in this scene so I didn’t need to touch that setting. I know some people as well also do a separate selective colour layer that’s just for the whites and blacks of the scene.

We’re finally nearing the end now, after this I top it off with a last brightness/contrast layer (I told you I like them layers haha)

Normally I add a touch of contrast and sometimes (again varies on the scene) I might add more brightness.

Now this would normally be where I stop and this would be the final product, but for this series I like to add and extra layer of colour (it was an exclusion layer but I've changed it because I’m preferring how it looks now)

Now we are finished (by now you’re probably sick of me talking lol)

I know obviously everyone has they’re own way (and someone’ll probably look at this and think damn you could easily miss some of these steps or incorporate these into one) of giffing, but this is my main way and I hope I’ve covered everything so I hope this was helpful to you anon and have a good day :3

It Still Hurts (Peter Parker x Reader)

okay so i saw this gifset here and the quote from the movie [Happy: I thought you had super strength. // Peter: It still hurts. ] and INSPIRATION STRUCK, again i bet this concept has been done before but i cannot hold back i must write about this so here is my sad petey x reader one shot please enjoy

WARNINGS: angst?, cursing, talk of blood/stitching, crying and generally just a really sad piece i have no reason for this i just couldn’t get the concept out my mind

It was getting late. Very late, even for Peter and you were growing very concerned. He told May that he was going to stay at the Tower with Happy after a simple arms deal bust he was assigned to do with Sam and Bucky out at the shipyard. So of course, the two of you arranged that he’d come in through your fire escape to spend the night instead. To your disbelief though, he was late.

In general, when the two of you made these kinds of plans he would be in your window at three the latest but it was pushing near four in the morning and you were growing more and more anxious by the second.

As the clock hit 4:30, Peter’s hand hit your window.

You opened it up quickly, the dim light of your TV the only thing illuminating your room. He shuffled in, leaning heavily on you, panting and wincing with every rough step towards your bed.

“What the fuck happened Peter?” You asked, genuinely curious, releasing your hold on his elbow as he sat down on the corner of your bed. His body fell forward as he leaned his forearms onto his knees and allowed his head to swing between his shoulders.

“I was wearing the old suit. I left the new one in the lab because I coded some new stuff for it and I’ve been putting off this last update. I thought I would be fine since it was an easy mission, plus Wanda came out with us but these guys had some punch to ‘em.” Peter explained as you stood in front of him, slowly moving his head and arms around to check for anything that needed special attention. When you lifted his right arm he winced.

You nodded, allowing him to continue explaining what went down at the docks. You shuffled through your closet until you found your old med kit, humming softly every now and then to let him know you were still listening.

The kit had some dust from sitting at the very back of the shelf and not being touched for over a year since Peter had joined forces with the Avengers. With the major suit upgrade and the med team at the tower, he never had to sneak in through your window at night to get patched up anymore, which begged the question that you could no longer hold back.

“Pete, why didn’t you go back to the tower to get patched up?” You asked.

“I didn’t want to go to the tower, they would have made me stay there,” he explained. “And I really wanted to see you. I got my ass handed to me, babe. It sucked.”

You turned on the lamp that sat atop the small table by your bed and sat to Pete’s right, examining the cut just above his right shoulder blade. He was going to need a few stitches.

“I can see that,” You joked, opening up the kit and prepping your needle. “Take the suit off, I need to clean this up. It’s gonna be at least four stitches.”

He obliged, hissing as he peeled off the top and letting it drop into his lap. “I always hated stitches.”

“I know, but it’s gotta happen,” you explained, gently wiping the gash with alcohol and wincing alongside his reactions. “I’m sorry, I know it hurts.”

“It’s okay. I’m sorry for the blood, for making you do this.”

You shake your head despite the fact that he has his back to you. “It’s fine,” you reply. “I just don’t understand why you wouldn’t wanna get patched up by the nurse at the tower. She even gives lollipops afterwards.”

He lets out a sharp chuckle. “Yeah Nurse Katherine’s great at fixing me up, sure, but I really didn’t want to sleep alone tonight.”

You hum in reply as you prep your needle. “Okay, Pete, I’m gonna start the stitches.”

Peter nods his head and remembers not to talk while you do these stitches.

Up until high school, the only stitches you knew were the kind you did to patch up the pits of your t-shirts and to put little flowers in your denim jacket. Then, in your freshman year, your cousin had busted his forearm open at the skatepark and you were the only person in the entire family with a steady hand. That night you learned how to stitch a man up. After you told Peter that story though, he started showing up on your fire escape with cuts, scrapes and bruises galore.

Although it had been over a year since you’d last done this though, Peter had given you a lot of practice and you were back in your groove very quickly.

Despite this, you heard soft cries coming from the broad body in front of you.

“I thought you had super strength,” you attempted to make fun, pulling through your third stitch.

“It still hurts,” he replied, his voice raspy and low.

In your heart you knew he wasn’t talking about the stitches. You’ve stitched up a gouge much worse on his calf after he got caught up with a girl who really loved her knives, and he didn’t even complain. That night it was eight stitches and not a peep from him.

You finished the rest of the stitches in silence. After wiping up the rest of the blood smeared on his body, you cleaned up the skin around the suture and placed a large cotton pad atop it, securing that in place and hoping that he didn’t get blood on your bed sheets again.

You packed away your med pack and grabbed a pair of sweats and a t-shirt from the collection of clothes you’d stolen from Peter in the last year or so that you guys have been together.

“Thank you,” he said, pulling his suit off and climbing into his sweats.

His eyes were still red and puffy, the only sounds filling the room were random sniffles and the sound of you sorting out the bed for the two of you to sleep.

“Are you okay, Pete?” You asked, sitting up on the left side of the bed, the comforter pulled up in your lap.

He pulled the shirt on over his head and pulled the blanket off your lap and settled himself in between your legs, his back pressed up against you, and pulling your arms around his shoulders.

Before you could piece words together to react, soft sobs filled the room.

A minute passed and you pulled him closer to you, pressing soft kisses to the crown of his head and running your thumb up and down his forearm.

His breathing finally slowed. “I miss him so much.”

You chewed on the inside of your cheek thinking of something to say.

You knew well enough he was talking about Tony. Ever since Tony died, Peter’s been off his game. Even with the Stark tech, he was getting pretty hurt at every single mission. He wasn’t sleeping as much and if you managed to catch him in between tasks, you could see the exhaustion in his eyes.

“I know,” you reply. “I’m sorry, Peter.”

You can’t think of anything else to do but squeeze him a little tighter.

“I just-- it still hurts. It’s been months and it still hurts. I miss him. I don’t like the world without Tony Stark. It’s scarier. Even I’m scared all the time. I can’t focus on missions, and that means I’m putting people in danger,” he stops to breathe, pulling your arms a little closer to his chest. “and I’m just so tired of watching good men die at the hands of selfish people.”

You sit and listen and feel your heart ache at the sight and sound of nothing but a boy in pain, mourning the loss of someone he loved so dearly, and there’s not much else you can do but hold him close, listen and be there for him.

“I know. It’s not fair. There’s nothing fair about it.”

“I want Tony back.”

The two of you sit there for a while longer, Pete’s sniffles filling the air. Eventually they stop and he unwraps your arms from around him and the two of you lie down.

You end up on your back with Peter’s head resting on your chest, slowly breathing in your scent. His arms snake around your middle and you know he’s going to be insistent on holding you like this for the rest of the night, so you try to get comfy. Your fingers tangle in his hair and you rake through them over and over and over again, hoping that he’ll fall asleep soon.

He doesn’t.

“Do you think we’ll be okay?” he asked, his voice soft and quiet.

“I think New York can only be so bad with a guy like Spiderman defending it,” you mutter back, pressing another kiss to his forehead.

“I don’t think I can fill Mr. Stark’s shoes, y/n.”

“I think you can. He picked you, Peter.”

“But he was Iron Man, he was always there when the world needed saving.”

“I don’t think he would have done what he did if he didn’t think that you could help take care of the world for him.”

He didn’t respond, but you felt him hold his breath, so you continued.

“And you’re not alone Pete. He gave you a family with the Avengers and he believed in you.”

“Yeah.”

“I believe in you.”

You smoothed his hair back before tangling your fingers with the bunch at the nape of his neck. The two of you lied awake for nearly another hour, not speaking, just holding each other.

You held this boy in your arms, desperate to protect him from anymore loss and grief. This boy who had a huge heart and nothing but a yearn to protect the ones around him. This boy who was one of the people responsible for saving the universe.

And Peter held his number one reason for continuing to fight the good fight. That night, as you held him and his chest filled with an ache only you could soothe, he made a promise to himself that he would protect the world with every bit of him, so long as you were in it.
