I never seem to talk about it anymore but I still make things! I have a ton of project photos that I'll be posting as I'm organizing my backups. This is an Iggy Peck sweater out of handspun polwarth, with needle-felted steeks.
Gradient spin challenge! I have personal notes about this one, but I still really like how it came out.
Refreshing on Rambouillet by Three Waters Farm.
I'm recovering from what I'm pretty sure is a sinus infection but was determined to get back in the woodshop, so I wore my handpsun kerchief to keep my sore throat warm. Naturally, working has now made me too warm, so I hung it up to keep shavings off it and honestly, maybe I should get photos of all my small knit goods this way...
This is some handspun merino I dyed with onion skins! Not a lot left for the weft, so may pick a different weft yarn in the morning after a good night's sleep. I was out camping all weekend and need an easy task for the evening
This is the fattest bobbin I have spun to date. That thing is FULL. We are at MAX CAPACITY. This is ~200g of Corriedale dyed by me. The purple dye had split into blue and red, but I'm very pleased that through the magic of ✨optical blending✨ the spun yarn looks purple! Yay 💜
Winding it onto the niddy noddy took ages. It was quite the arm workout. Now it just needs a good soak and a good thwack and this beast will finally be finished!
finished the electric rainbow rambouillet! it’s sooooooo pretty!! I hope plying doesn’t ruin it (planning to chain ply- I can’t imagine doing anything else.) I almost hate to take it off the bobbin since it’s so pretty from the side. But I want to keep using the spider bobbin so that won’t work 😅 I am obsessed with the gradient, seeing it fill the bobbin was super fun.
See this post here for pics of the braid, which is from SpinningSiren on Etsy (same as the bobbin!)
[id: three picture of yarn that thin and dark brown/warm grey, with some white mix in, shiny. first picture on golden muddy niddy noddy, second picture separate out individual strand to show thin, third is curly untwisted hank. end id]
took 2 week & half see how thin can possibly spin. plan is ply self together to make lace weight yarn for shawl :o
Considering i havent posted on my main crafts account but i have a lot to say i will do a mini post with a few things ive done recently:
Most recently (like, today) corn starch/glycerine/vinegar bioplastics (+yellow onion skin dye for the orange, not yet set fully) Should be good to take out of the plates in like 8 or so days
WIP drying pumpkin out to hopefully make a patterned container, found a pumpkin someone had thrown on the sode of the road and carved a design into it/emptied it out
i'm *hoping* packing it with salt will let it drain of enough water like the last pumpkin i made this way. I think i might not have thinned the walls enough and it'll take a while to dry before i can test this guess
Spun yarn (raw wool washed using saponins extracted from lambsquarters/goosefoot seed coatings)
SPIDER SILK plus beginnings of a very tiny weaving attempt again with them; i think it's too tiny for the warp though
A small sampling of plant pigments (usually anthocyanins) i've tried working with recently (mostly mixed with water, some egg tempura experimenting as well)
Hoping that posting this will kickstart my brain to post more about these specific things with even more detailed observations soon
I had spun linen slivers in a long time. I make everything into a thin yarn, almost like that for kimonos… so I joined two strands together to make a weft.
綿のスラブ糸と組み合わせて、新しいショールができました!
Combined with cotton slub yarn, I have just woven a new shawl!
