' he's sweating just a little after trying to grab some candy at such short notice for ritsuka, but there's no way he could let such an important day just pass him by like this --- ! ' here, take it! take it! ' whether or not she got plenty of other treats from any other servants already, he'd still insist upon his own!

ritsuka can't help but laugh a little, seeing how frantic yan qing is about this. "hey, hey, chill out! it's not that big of a deal, don't worry so much about it." still, she accepts the candy gratefully--even if she gets so many sweets from her servants on a regular basis that one has to wonder just how good chaldea's dental plan is, she's not exactly one to turn down gifts from loved ones or free candy. "thank you, though."

she pops a candy into her mouth, then offers one right back to yan qing. "share these with me? sweets taste even better when you share them with friends, y'know!"

Happy birthday to Ritsuka (Given) and Taiga (Kuroko no Basuke)! Since their birthdays are so close together, I decided to draw them at the same time. I would've drawn Nagisa (Free!) too. Maybe next year I'll get to draw him.

  she didn’t trust the flowers. call it exercising caution for once or paranoia from that strange gut feeling that’s plagued her for weeks, but Ritsuka wanted nothing to do with the strange blooms. not that her opinion mattered much in the long run. what started out as an assumed bout of allergies turned into something more, something worse. she’s used to worse. she’s used to strange. so when dark green vines snaked around her skin, when those very flowers bloomed along her body, encircling her head in a nigh-perfect crown, when the strange compulsion to talk hit with the pain? she knew she was in trouble.a trouble which nothing could really be done for.

     each pluck of a flower, each rip of a vine, only lasted for so long until new ones took its place. trails of dead flowers, withered flora, create a path through the chateau. the now empty (save for her) chateau. this was common. this could happen at any time and normally, Ritsuka would feel it. yet she can’t tell that pain apart from the rest that pulsates throughout her body. is it from the flowers? is it from the fact that for the last few days, she’s been biting her lip, refusing to even utter one word in fear of everything coming out? 

      she wants to talk (she can’t talk). she wants to yell (she can’t yell). she wants to cry (she can’t cry). Ritsuka refuses to succumb to it and yet every ounce of fight in her body brought nothing but pain.

   “ Ha......ha....” choked and struggling breaths leave the Master, who stays close to the ground, doubled over as hands grab fistfuls of snow and knees become soaked with cold. she hopes that pain distracts her from the rest, grounds her from the ever growing need to let it out. it does not. it only mingles with the rest as something hot burns the corner of her eyes, teeth clenching, the taste of copper flooding her mouth. 

   it reminds her of the mists, this pain, this underlying current of fear. she sees malicious red eyes in her mind, hears that giggle, and shakes her head to clear it all away. a short and empty laugh leaves her, words mumbled beneath her breath “ Happy....early...birthday to me, right?”

Younger me loving things for trauma related reasons~

This song and scene reminding and giving a way to explain my feelings toward my birthday and Christmas time over all. Unable to remember so much, but knowing there was times of great joy and happiness. This feeling of longing for times past that you don't even know of.

Or relating to ritsuka for everything he goes threw, memory loss, feeling of needing to take pictures to remember things.

Thinking myself responsible enough to out smart predatory adults. Actively putting myself in danger. Being empathetic to a fault.

Or identifying with characters who backstories were about being abused or neglected.

it's left where she could find it. a large silver box with a simple lavender ribbon, a card set to the side. inside the box, Mashu would find a royal purple fleece blanket. It's easy to see it was handmade, something ritsuka had secretly worked on last December. when unfolding it, she would find a simplified design of Camelot, and inside, Chaldea's symbol. the card would simply read: for all the warmth you've given me. happy birthday -- r.f.

Truthfully, she was hoping people had forgotten, or that pandemonium of late had deferred attention elsewhere. But no matter how her care for what should be a joyous occasion might have dwindled to nothingness, there were those who would not let anything prevent them from expressing their generosity.

She could not imagine how long it might have taken, nor when the Master had the time to make it — when their world continually crumbled all around, when Ritsuka tried to hold everything up with her two hands, and with demons always hot on her heels. Somehow, she had still thought so much of Mashu, separate from the care of handling the girl for how much she had eroded across the past year, or as her kouhai and Servant — she had created something with hands they both had witness lose their colour, weaving something special and vibrant. Yet one more thing she had given to Mashu after so much that it simply couldn’t be quantified.

And the card. They were few words to combat what the Demi-Servant had convinced herself of with intensifying volume from within; it would be an insult to their time together, the memories they held fondly to completely ignore that, undeniably, Mashu had given to Ritsuka in turn. As a kouhai, as a Servant, and as a friend. It might not have felt it for some time, but there might still have been moment sprinkled in since the Master arrived on the island. So deeply entrenched within the belief she did nothing but take, drain, Ritsuka... the other asserted otherwise.

Warmth. Just as when they held hands, from that very first day when Ritsuka risked her life to give Mashu a fighting chance, and then saw her off when that chance expired months later. The same as what they seized of each other while Singularity F collapsed and when Ritsuka reached out to her final lifeline within the Time Temple’s dissolution. A warmth that would one day lessen, and grow cold. The gloves gifted in December were not what the card referred to; a temporary extension that masked the true extent of the Lostbelts’ toll. Other than them, Mashu could not fathom what warmth had been soothed the older in some time; the resolution she made in the final days of the previous year to smile through the dwindling time they had left long imploded spectacularly, adding to Ritsuka’s hardship. And still, she never felt any grievance. She gave and gave.

Arms wove around the blanket and pressed it against her chest, tucked beneath her chin. She wasn’t worthy of someone so tremendous. That feeling had ballooned throughout the months. And somehow, Ritsuka still accepted her, who she had become both good and bad. She wanted desperately, more than words could describe, more than the imagination could possibly envision, to give as much to the Master as was bestowed upon everyone else.

Most of all, give her a fighting chance. Ritsuka had asked once before if she wasn’t worth hearing a painful truth and fighting for. But she was, and so much more. She was worth more than anything and everything else. Mashu wished that much could be given, so that her time left would be free of all the strife and stress that had piled up into mountains. If it would be at the end Ritsuka have nothing left, until that day, she at least deserved that much.
