A gentle reminder that our middle-grade debut novel releases August 6, 2024 from HarperCollins!
THE MONSTROUS ADVENTURES OF MUMMY MAN AND WAFFLES tells the story of 11-year-old Wen as he and his new friend Tanya accidentally bring a basement full of old horror movie props to life. The only good monster in the bunch is MUMMY MAN, a goofy, big-hearted movie mummy who adopts a creek turtle named Frank. Together, they battle the bad movie monsters to stop an all-out creature invasion.
This has been a labor of love for me, the first in a new spooky humor middle-grade series dedicated to my love of old-school fright films, movie monsters, and super heroes — written purely for my inner 8-year-old.
Fans of That’s Believable will find that I write for kids pretty much the way I write here. And with amazing illustrations by the incredibly talented Robb Mommaerts, it’s going to be a great time!
If you like what we do, if this sounds interesting (and/or you have younger siblings/nieces/nephews), and you’d like to support us, a great way to do that is to PRE-ORDER the book HERE!
Thanks for listening, and we return you to our regularly scheduled nonsense.
Hello! My name is Kelly, I work at HarperCollins, a book publisher in the United States. Currently about 250 members of our union are on strike. Our chapter is local 2110 of UAW. We’re striking as we’ve been without a contract since April and are asking for minimum salaries to be at $50,000 (we’re based in New York City), stronger commitments to diversity initiatives, and union protections.
I’m asking people to sign a letter in support of us. You can do so by clicking this link! We’re hoping to get 15,000 signatures by Friday. Considering support us?

If daylight savings has you feeling discombobulated, here’s your pass to take a nap! March 11th is National Napping Day and in the spirit of the day we’re sharing Shel Silverstein’s (1930-1999) The Nap Taker from his book of poems Falling Up.
Falling Up was published in 1996 by HarperCollins and was Silverstein’s third published collection of poetry. The book features over one hundred poems and drawings by Silverstein and was the recipient of the Booklist Editor’s Award in 1996. Our copy of Falling Up was a gift from Alison Newman and is another book from our sizable Historical Curriculum Collection.

Exclusive Cover Reveal: Murray Out of Water by Taylor Tracy
Today on the site, I’m delighted to welcome Taylor Tracy to reveal the cover of their debut Middle Grade fabulist novel in verse, Murray Out of Water, releasing from Quill Tree/HarperCollins on May 21, 2024! Here’s the story:
Twelve-year-old Murray O’Shea loves the ocean. It could be because it never asks her to be someone she’s not, something her mother refuses to do. But Murray also shares a…
As [House] minority leader, [Gerald] Ford had rarely left the White House without pocketing a handful of elegant matchbooks for deposit in a bowl on the receptionist's desk in his Capitol Hill office. Constituents scooped them up, the perfect souvenir of their brush with history. Ford continued the practice while acclimating himself to his new status [as President], no longer a tourist but not yet at home within the walls that had sheltered Jefferson, Lincoln, and the Roosevelts. Scarcely able to believe the latest turn of events, recalled newsman Bob Schieffer, "he would go around and every once in a while he would just pick up a handful of those White House matches because he'd just been doing it all his life."
-- Richard Norton Smith, on Gerald Ford still feeling like a tourist in the White House and hoarding souvenir matchbooks after becoming President in 1974, An Ordinary Man: The Surprising Life and Historic Presidency of Gerald R. Ford (BOOK | KINDLE | AUDIO), which was just released in paperback.
