I'm happy to say I've finished my corsetry class, with 56/60 for the pattern modifications, 59/60 for the sampler (which I gave to my classmate since it fit them), and perfect score on the finished corset!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now to finish my Millinery course for the certificate, then onto (hopefully provided there's enough people) Pattern drafting 2 and garment construction 3!
Here's my bonnet I had marked as part of the course

Kiera-Oona’s DIY (Sewblr, and Craftblr - free knowledge!)
For those of you who don’t really know me, Hi, I’m Kiera-Oona (also seen as kieraoona elsewhere on the internet)
I run a side blog called Kiera-Oona’s DIY, here on tumblr at @kieraoonadiy
For references on what I can do, the skills are far and vast, but I am no expert, but have experience in:
machine sewing (industrial and home machines, both modern and vintage)
Hand sewing
using a serger (just bought one recently)
Millinery (aka hat making, taking classes in school)
Visible mending using multiple techniques
other - way too many more skills to mention
With that said, I also have a Youtube channel, also called Kiera-Oona’s DIY that you all may want to check out
I’m willing to impart general knowledge, or help with any specific questions some of you out there may have with regards to your sewing or crafting questions.
Am I an expert...no
Do I have a lot of general knowledge, backed by years (one decade at least) of home sewing and a few college courses..heck yeah!
Am I willing to help you with specific questions regarding sewing in general if you get stuck?  Yes
The more specific you are the better my answer will be!
Will I make something for you, for free?  NO!
This is DIY after all!
(*with the exception of a very, very few select close local mutuals, you know who you are)
You can ask questions that you may have, and I will let you know if I know how to help you solve it, and if you have pics so I can explain, the better.
If you have a specific model of sewing machine, and are stuck, I need a pic, or make/model info
So if you’re stuck, drop an ask, and I will answer as best I can.
And now....a pic of a recently finished project, that I have yet to finish a video for.  For reference, this is the Butterick Walk Away Dress, sized up from a bust 34″ to a bust 50″
The pockets were added on cause...who doesn’t like pockets?

The times I tried to make a bonnet at 2am because I was inspired by Fka Twigs. Who knows, maybe I’ll try again this year. 🧸🎀 #2022

As promised (somewhat) better photos of the Hat Full Of Sky. Unfortunately I missed my window of opportunity to photograph in daylight/ natural light. I did get fresh air and exercise today, both with my early morning phone doctor check up and when we were let loose early for lunch and my entire class went to the thrift store and then downtown to find that the local wool store is closed until next Wednesday. Pls, we are desperate fibre arts students, let us buy your yarns. And yes, I wore the hat out and about bc I had put it on for the morning review of what we made yesterday and then honestly forgot that it was on my head? (And then committed to the bit. It's a town with an art school, the locals are surely used to strange fashions). I was concerned that the hat would be too small, but the felt feels very secure on my head, not too itchy on the short buzzed sides, not too hot, as comforting as a baseball hat. I got lots of compliments from fellow students on my cool hat!
It does give Peter Pan vibes but I'm down for that. No, I'm not sharing a picture of me in the hat bc I'm trying to preserve some anonymity.
Perspective is kinda wonky on the third photo. You're looking into the inside of the shape. I guess the curve of it fucked up my sunset design a bit but whatever.
Big question: do I add any embellishment? Some glass beads? Probably not sequins bc we did a sampler of beads and sequins embellishment today and it was time consuming and I like sequins but they're not the vibe for this humble hat

Woo!  All the hats I needed to make for this semesters’ class are all done, and the brown felt hat is going to be handed in soon. I also included a bonus quick sketch that is part of the homework to accompany the hat, and the materials list so you can all see what’s involved in college homework and the process.
If you enjoy my work, want to help support my school tuition, or help pay for materials (because making mock-ups, felt, and other materials is expensive), please visit my Ko-Fi page
https://ko-fi.com/kieraoona
Next semester....Fashion Illustration and Design, as well as Apparel Construction.
Fall semester will likely include Millinery 2 - Advanced Techniques, and at least one other class I have yet to decide on.
