RK1K Prompt Week Day 1: Failed Revolution

Connor's mission was to neutralize the deviant leader Markus—but Markus was killed by humans during their freedom march and taken to CyberLife to be dissected. Connor can't accept the fact that he couldn't accomplish his mission himself (especially when he's told he's being decommissioned) and does everything he can to get his target, even going against CyberLife and stealing Markus' body to get him for himself.

Knowing that Kamski built him, Connor forces him to repair Markus. (He would have done it voluntarily, of course, to get the failed revolution back on track).

At some point Connor deviates and of course they fall for each other 💙

Fic ideas that I'll never write:

Markus happen to catch a virus that completely locks his ability to move. He can still communicate through wireless messages, but that's basically it.

Unfortunately, it's not so easy to erase either, as the virus plots itself within some of the core components that have to be replaced, and in general it just takes time to figure out how exactly it is possible to erase the virus without fucking up Markus's system as well.

Markus can't really afford to be completely paralized like that. He has to keep showing up for various meetings and all this stuff. After all, he's a public figure that represents all the android voices.

One of the possibile solutions is to be within close enough distance to where the meeting is taking place and let someone else from Jericrew replace him temporarily while he's sick in this way, maybe wirelessly transmitting what he would have said and let them be his voice. The android(s) that temporarily take his place (be it North, Connor, Josh or Simon) may also share with him the stream of their vision/hearing, so he could be more present and included. But this is still rather lacking solution, and even though at first it works, Markus is getting progressively more and more depressed about his condition of complete helplessness. It's miserable, and more importantly – it's BORING. And no one really knows what to do with this virus without risking corrupting Markus's system either.

And so, Connor suggests a solution.

They're both RKs and their systems are compatible. He can temporarily transfer Markus into his body and let their system run in parallel. Connor system is kinda meant for that anyway – it has always had a place for a "second pilot", Amanda. Although Amanda was fairly passive for most of the time, still, she has been there. And now, as her place is free, Markus can take it.

The experience of this connection is...interesting. And it almost goes completely wrong the first time Markus tries to do something. Connor, although not meaning to, panics badly . Their system gets overloaded with stress, and now they're both overheating. Markus feels like shit as Connor's body starts to cry involuntarily, even though Connor himself frantically apologises and tries to convince him that it's all okay. It's just the experience of loosing control of his body and having someone else to control it, stresses him the fuck out, even though it was his idea to suggest it. He didn't expect it to backfire. After all, it's Markus, and not Amanda. Still.

After some trial and error they find a way for both of them be in control without completely handing administrator rights to only one of them at a time. This way none of them gets completely overpowered, and although this way it's a little harder to coordinate their actions, this solution works better for their shared sanity. After some awkward adjusting period to the way it works, they find a way to operate smoothly, coordinated, in some way even better than before. It's about trust, and they have enough of it to make it work.

It's a little weird to have some of their thoughts slipping into another one to hear. Not all of them, but some. It's kinda weird to feel the physical sensation of another one of them getting some emotion. Like the moment they only appear like that, within RK800 body some android, not yet aware of it being Markus in there can say something about how Connor shouldn't even be there. And at this moment the both of them feel two sets of feelings, a burning guilt – coming from Connor, and frustrated anger – coming from Markus. It's both the pain in their shared chest and the pressure of pulsating noise in their head. They know EXACTLY how another one of them feels, because, well, they have to endure it simultaneously.

The touch one is interesting as well – it both feels as if this touch belongs to someone else, but also it's your own. (Would it be called sex or technically just a masturbation if they get the idea to make use of their time in this way as well?)

Another thing that they are surprised to be able to share now – a garden. It's empty now, and it's cold. For Connor. Somehow, it's sunny and blooming for Markus even though they are in the exact same place. Markus soon realises that he has the rights needed to change the setting, and yet Connor does not. Disturbed, Markus realises that not only that, but in general, taking Amanda's place he actually has a lot more administrator rights, some of them the ones Connor wasn't even aware of himself. He changes the weather to make it early fall, he removes the roses and plants sunflowers instead. They both have fun just turning the garden into something completely different from what it originally was. Other than pigeons, there are now canaries, koi fishes get replaced with tropical ones. It would have been impossible for them to live in a pond if it was the real world, but Zen Garden is a place that can be programmed, it doesn't have the kind of limitations of a physical one.

In Zen garden they can get a little break by being separated, each one within their own avatar, free to walk around as they please.

When Markus's body gets fixed and the virus is finally erased from his system, it's almost sad to be parted again after they spent so much time learning to exist as one, never lonely within their own presence. As Markus transfers back, he hints that there could be a place and time for him as well to offer his body to be shared sometimes. The thought about it fills him with warmth, and, from sharing Connor's body for long enough, he knows that at this moment as he says that, their feelings on the matter are mutual.

Sexuality headcanon: My pfp is probably a dead give-away but Markus has never been anything but bi af in my mind, you know, as much as that can mean to an android anyway. But he likes boys and he like girls and everything in between and outside of that.

OTP: RK1K. Hands down. I literally cannot get enough of them. I won't get into it too much because then this will turn into a damn essay, but the whole 'ying/yang, unstoppable force/immovable object, hunter/leader, sun/moon, opposite sides of the same coin' just hits the exact right spot for me. God, even their model numbers complete each other! Like, it makes me insane.

Brotp: Jericrew, always Jericrew. Gosh, one of my favourite things to think about is them getting closer once the threat of extinction isn't hanging over their heads. Let them be actual friends goddammit and not just bitchy co-workers.

NOTP: Markus/Perkins, Markus/Reed, Markus/Carl. I actually ship Markus with a lot of people so I've discovered, but these ones are all a hard no from me.

Headcanon: Some point after the revolution his borrowed regulator fails and he collapses. Jericrew and other androids with compatible hearts take turns in giving him their regulators to keep him alive until a replacement arrives (I feel like I've blatantly stole this HC from someone else though I honestly can't remember from whom, but honestly, this HC is so good and i've adopted it).

Fave line: I have so many but I have a particularly fondness for "If we must die today, then we will die free." The delivery of this line, with his little smile while he says it is so good. I prefer the revolution route in general, but this line in the demonstration route is perfection.

How I relate to him: Probably in that sometimes I just need some space and to be alone. Also I've been told I have RBF, so that too lmao

Things that give me second-hand embarrassment about him: Incompetent Markus to the point where he can actually be ousted from Jericho. It's really hard for me to see Markus that way, to the point where I made a wholeass HC to explain it.

Cinnamon roll or problematic fave: CINNAMON ROLL. Markus has done nothing wrong, ever.

I don't have the screenshot to this one, but someone accused Rose Quartz/PD of doing... blackface. I have no fucking idea why. Now the following ones (putting it under the cut so the post doesn't get too long):

The fact people think the FMA live action movies, which contain brownface, are better than the 2003 adaptation is really fucking beyond me.

This is my personal opinion, obviously, I guess I'm just sick of people forcing me to see Aziraphale and Crowley having sex. Like, untagged. I think some of these fans are the same people who called Good Omens queerbaiting because Azi and Crowley didn't make out in the first season. I'm not saying you're not allowed to like them having sexual interactions, I personally just headcanon them as aspec and I prefer them forming a more emotional kind of intimacy, which is what we've seen in the show the most. I also kind of hate that people debate on this shit to justify their obsession with sex. I could talk a lot about aphobia in fandoms but that would have to be its own post.

And I guess I just prefer aroace Willow to pan Willow. She was confirmed pansexual by Dana (or someone else in the crew, I don't remember now), but I just... can't see it. Willow never seemed to show any interest in anyone before Hunter magically saved her. I'm not debating her sexuality, alright, she can very well be pansexual, but I just wish it wasn't confirmed outside of the show. Same counts for aroace Lilith, if I'm being honest. But I'm not invalidating anyone who's satisfied with pan Willow or aroace Lilith, you're totally valid.

Well... I guess DBH? I'm not as active as I was before, but I barely make content for it besides RK1K. I follow like three active blogs who mostly post Markus, because those people actually give love to the characters who deserve it (Markus himself, Kara, North, Josh, Amanda, Luther etc.). The rest of the DBH fandom is atrocious. But yeah, sometimes I feel awful liking this stupid game because of all the flaws in it and how racist and misogynistic the fandom is. And honestly, nowadays I'm not even caring that much about Parental Hank & Connor. I mostly see Connor and Hank as friends or roomies now. I don't ship them romantically but I'm not really seeing them through parental lenses anymore, and I guess I'm not as opposed to their romantic ship either. I'm just cool with it.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? That's tough to say for sure but I think every lessons forms a new scar ending with an off-screen character death is probably the most angst I've ended with so far.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? That would have to be All the Words I Don't Have again. Everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. And Lockwood writes some really bad poetry.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Sort of? There was one collab fic I wrote a scene for but it never got finished. Someday I might post my part, because ngl I'm pretty proud of the Skull/Lucy banter in it.

13. What’s your all time favorite ship? How could I ever choose??? By bookmark stats, it would be Marinette and Adrien from Miraculous Ladybug. But cot3 (Lockwood & Co) and Superbat (DC) are up there too.

14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? A better question is what isn't a WIP I'll never finish??? I have dozens 😭 Though one that stands out is an old Frozen fic I outlined in I think 2018(?). The premise is a canon divergence where Anna's death is faked when they're children and she's raised in the village instead of in the castle. There are two full acts that are just set up for a The Prince And Me/Princess Diaries-esque rom-com between suddenly-a-princess Anna and just-a-normal-guy Kristoff.

The outline on its own is about 8k words, and frankly I've considered editing and posting the outline itself before because it's detailed enough. This fic is actually a drabble I wrote to take place within my AU, but it reads canon compliant enough of its own so I posted it.

15. What are your writing strengths? Ideas. I am always getting new plot bunnies, always getting excited about the next great idea, always thinking about new aspects of these worlds and characters I want to explore.

16. What are your writing weaknesses? Dialogue and volume. That's why I write so many descriptive, very short fics XD

17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? I'd only do it in a language I've studied for a couple years, and even then I would want a native speaker to read over it for me. But it hasn't come up yet?

I do really like Superbat or Star Trek fics where the author sparingly includes Kryptonian / Klingon / Vulcan with a translation at the end.

18. First fandom you wrote for? My Little Pony, or maybe Percy Jackson?? I'm too scared to check my old accounts to see which came first, if I ever even posted the fics I remember writing then at all.

19. Favorite fic you’ve written? building glass castles for sure!!! I love the atmosphere in it, and the monologue from Skull. That monologue came to me in the middle of the night once, so I had to type it up immediately and build the fic around it later.

Do you continue the dbh box boy au anymore..? If so I have a suggestion for some characters that would fit the au.

Characters: ralph, carloses hk400 and mabey either Rupert or luther

Why: ralph is a pained character that got attacked randomly by the haters (idk y but I love him in pain hehe) and would be a good target for those who run the company, carloses hk400 or shaolin I think he's called went through extreme ªbųsə already so it's pretty easy for him, for Rupert it's the same situation as ralph with him being vulnerable but for Luther it has to do with his time at zlatkos (zlat is not someone you would willingly go to but oh well)

Ralph isn’t in my AU but I agree he’s perfect as a bb, you don’t even need to convince me 😭. You can add him to your version since I’m so bad with multiple storylines 😭😭, also bc Luther already has a place in my universe.

Connor, relieved to see Markus making it alive

Meanwhile Markus – expected androids to win but now that they did feels tremendous amount of guilt for seeing the kind of freedom that thousands didn't live long enough to see. Being destroyed because of his actions. They won, yes, but at what cost. Have imposter syndrome of not being any "more" deserving of this freedom compared to those who'll never see it.

Markus forgiving himself through his forgiveness for Connor, processing his crushing guilt through seeing the mirror reflection of it in him. It'd be so much harder to process all this things without him around – the personified embodiment of all Markus's inner demons of not belonging to the world he personally helped to build.

Connor will have a really hard time trying to understand Markus's affection towards him, ironically it'll be one more thing to feel guilty about. Because he doesn't understand the nature of it being Not some kind of an altruism, but in fact something driven by really personal motives. Egoistic but in a self-preserving, healing way.

This is probably one of my favourite aspect about rk1k and I'll keep repeating it because I'm not getting over it
