This Fourth of July, I ask that you support Native Hawaiian independence.
The Kingdom of Hawai’i was illegally overthrown with the help of American businessmen and we have suffered under the iron grip of America.
Our land is simply seen as a vacation spot, my people are simply seen as tour guides and hula dancers. We have had our culture, our history, and our people turned into a commercialized joke by America.
The rampant tourism kills our islands with endless hotels, attractions and overcrowding. The housing and living costs are out of control because of the false “paradise” narrative. The Navy poisons our water and destroys our land. Covid has killed so many of my people due to the reckless and selfish nature of tourists. I have lost loved ones to this virus, because tourists “couldn’t stay away”.
My people have suffered. I have suffered.
We are more than your vacation. We are more than an aesthetic.
We are a sovereign nation illegally occupied by the United States of America.
Restore Hawai’i to Hawaiians. End the American Occupation.
See the links below to learn more and to read up on your Hawaiian history.

“We are not American! We are not American! Say it in your hearts, say it when you sleep. We are not American, we will die as Hawaiians. We will never be Americans...They took our land. They imprisoned our queen. They banned our language. They forcibly made us a colony of the United States.” - Haunani Kay Trask

Today is June 26th making it “626 Day”
For those of you who don’t know, in Disney’s movie Lilo and Stitch, Stitch is also known as Experiment 626. 626 Day is a day where Disney pushes a lot of Lilo and Stitch themed marketing/merch.
Now I enjoy the movie Lilo and Stitch. Personally, I think the team did a decent job touching on the negative impact of tourism and the “casual” everyday struggles of Native Hawaiian people. They worked hard to represent hula in a respectful and loving way, and that deserves praise.
However this movie is far far from perfect, and the success of that film has definitely added to the romanticization of Hawai’i and Hawaiian people.
At the end of the day, Disney is a cooperation. They own many many properties on our islands and they promote and encourage over tourism of our ‘āina.
Hawaiian people are more than Lilo and Stitch.
So instead of buying Lilo and Stitch merch today, I highly encourage you to look into and donate to Native Hawaiian causes such as cultural revitalization and preservation efforts.
Below I’ve linked ‘Āina Momona’s website!
This is a Native Hawaiian focused community organization with many projects, resources and social connections.
On their website you can donate to their cultural restoration and preservation projects and also learn more about Hawaiian history and the issues facing our people.
They also have a super informative Instagram with even more information!
Restore Hawai’i to Hawaiians. End the American occupation.
