If you've ever wondered why people in Hawai'i hate tourists, try to wrap your mind around the fact that there are CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, tourists sipping martinis and looking at fish within swimming range of the fresh corpses of local people who couldn't escape the overnight destruction of their entire town.
Try to comprehend that there are fully functional, high capacity boats passing through the waters in front of an area full of survivors who are stranded and in need of supplies, refusing to help. They are hosting snorkeling tours.
Really think about, try your best to actually picture over two thousand people unhoused and in need of shelter, with nothing but the clothes on their backs and nothing to return to. Understand that the island, stolen land, is littered with hotels full of air conditioned of rooms with beds and showers and toilets, each fully equipped to host hundreds of families for weeks, turning these people away because they're booked up with tourists who refuse to leave.
And understand that these tourists were offered free transport to return home or be hosted on other islands. Free. Courtesy of local tax dollars. 4,000 wealthy tourists were offered free flights shelter on Oahu and begged to leave the island, BEFORE the survivors were given shelter.
And enough still insisted on remaining and carrying out their vacations that people are left without shelter and resources while they enjoy "their stay in paradise".
[Edit]: This current situation, and this type of tourist behavior is horrifying beyond words. In other circumstances, the tourism situation is much more complicated, and I need to ask that people do not add on to this post unless they are local.

From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free 🇵🇸 🍉 Free Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Yemen, Tigray, Syria, Haiti, Hawai’i, Puerto Rico, Tibet. I've made a list for some donation and free resources for those who need them. Donation Pages and other resources you can help support (Donation Page for Palestine, Syria, Lebanon and other refugee camps) (The Palestine Children's Relief Fund) (Donations go towards Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan) (Purchasing eSims allows people within Gaza to connect to the outside to communicate with their families and also to show what’s happening within Gaza) (A donation site which provides urgently needed humanitarian aid in moments of crisis and conflict in 70 different countries.) (A donation page for Sudan Relief) (A donation page to send water, food and aid to those who are living in Yemen.) Other ways you're able to help for free, contact your local senators, boycott, inform yourself and others! Anything you are able to do is able to help. Inform yourself about Sudan, South Sudan, Palestine, Somalia, Uyghurs, Congo, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and Morocco Inform yourself about Haiti, Hawai'i, Puerto Rico, Tigray, Tibet, Uighurs, West Papau: (A collection of resources for organizers and anyone who wants to learn more about Palestine.) (A free daily button you can click to help the people of Palestine and other areas of crisis.) (A comprehensive list of brands to boycott and reasons why.) (Another list of brands to boycott.) (Contact your local US senator.) (Contact your local Canadian parliament) (Contact your local UK parliament)
You can use this call script if you call your local US government.
Call Script: My name is {Your Name}. I am a constituent of {Representative's Name}. I am calling to ask that the Representative add their name to the Ceasefire Now resolution led by Representatives Cori Bush and Rashida Tlaib, regarding the unfolding crisis in Gaza. It is absolutely urgent that the Representative demand a ceasefire, and that they call on Israel to allow humanitarian assistance into Gaza. The only way forward is addressing the root causes of violence: Israeli military occupation and apartheid, and ending U.S. complicity in this oppression.

Someone created a Master Document for Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Sudan, Haiti, Yemen, and Hawai'i full of relevant accounts to follow, legitimate causes to donate to, and information on their current situations. OP also plans to keep this doc updated and include additional countries, so you can check it periodically for new details. This is a great resource to help educate yourself and help share information!

Wildfire hits the historic town of Lahaina-Maui, Hawai'i
Tumblr media
Twitter (source)
" Amid a string of wildfires burning in Hawaii that forced evacuations and cut power to thousands, massive blazes in the tourist town of Lahaina on Maui, fueled by a mix of land and atmospheric conditions that can create "fire weather," sent people running into the ocean seeking safety.
At least six people were killed in the fires, Maui Mayor Richard Bissen said at a briefing Wednesday.
The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed to CBS News that crews had rescued about a dozen people who jumped into the water in an effort to escape the Lahaina fires, which left a number of structures badly damaged. On Front Street, a popular tourist destination in the town, business owner Alan Dickar described seeing buildings on both sides of the street "engulfed" in flames, in comments to CBS Honolulu affiliate KGMB-TV.
"There were no fire trucks at that point; I think the fire department was overwhelmed," Dickar told the station. Speaking later to CBS News' Patrick Torphy, he added: "Maui can't handle this. ... A lot of people just lost their jobs because a lot of businesses burned. A lot of people lost their homes. ... This is going to be devastating for Maui..." " -cbsnews

I'd like to say, that if you fight for rights of any discriminated people, whether people of colour, the ones experiencing genocide, have experienced genocide, LGBTQIA+, etc. It won't matter if there isn't a planet to live on.
Fighting to stop climate change is just as important as fighting for human rights. And to fight to stop climate change we have to acknowledge one of the biggest reasons it is happening.
Capitalism. It is their beliefs of infinite growth and profit over people and the planet that has caused and been causing all of this.
If you care about one of these things, you better start fighting the root of almost all of these problems.
The wars in the name of money
The deforestation for profit
The propaganda made to keep capitalism as the "best" economic system
The discrimination and shallow acceptance in the name of money
The violation of privacy for money
The violation of so many human rights for money
It may seem hopeless to fight them, but it isn't. We are the ones working and we can stop working, we are the ones buying and we can stop buying.
Protests, boycotts, and even revolutions taking down capitalistic governments and systems will happen.
We just need to be in solidarity, fighting for our and the planet's future. Elevate voices, fight the broken systems, start making your online presence more private, boycott companies mistreating employees, boycott companies supporting and profiting from genocide, protest, revolution.
Socialism or death.
That is our choice.
I personally believe the next few decades will see the fall of many capitalist societies, and countries. I know we would not and will not let it continue. The future will have a free Palestine, a prospering Sudan and Congo, an independent Hawai'i, a unified Ireland, an independent Scotland, a truly free Philippines, a safe America, a unified world.
Free Palestine, the Congo, Sudan, and all experiencing genocide.
Never stop talking about them
Protest, boycott, lobby
I'll see you all when the sun rises on a free and safe world. Until then, we fight and endure.

Maui, Hawaii is on fire and hurricane winds only spread the fire.
This is the only resource that's being shared by people I trust.
There's other resources claiming to benefit effected people's, but I'm very distrusting of just any nonprofit claiming up help people effected by disasters, so I'm only going to be sharing resources shared by activists I trust.

In the aftermath of the most destructive fires in the island state’s recent memory, donations have poured in to help the thousands of affected residents on Maui.
Now, celebrity duo Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson have created a special welfare fund that will provide those directly injured or whose property was damaged by the fires with $1,200 per month out of their own pockets.
Together they created The People’s Fund of Maui, which is armed with $10 million in aid money donated by the two celebrities, will ensure those in need are reached directly.
“I have been meeting with people throughout the community that were impacted by the fires over the last few weeks, asking what they most needed and how I could be of service,” Ms. Winfrey said in a press release.
“The main thing I’ve been hearing is their concern about how to move forward under the immense financial burden. The community has come together in so many wonderful ways, and my intention is to support those impacted as they determine what rebuilding looks like for them.”
A variety of Maui residents and community leaders were consulted by Winfrey and Johnson who both hoped to ensure that neither time nor money was wasted in getting aid directly to those who need it.
“As people around the world watched the catastrophic loss and devastation caused by the Maui wildfires, they also witnessed the great spirit and resilience of our Polynesian culture and the tremendous strength of the people of Maui,” Mr. Johnson added in the same release.
