I’ve been kind of brain dead for ideas lately but an old one that I was batting around the other day was, following Jack Drake’s death everyone was scrambling to figure out what to do with Tim. Bruce wanted to adopt him, Dana was going to take him when she was well enough, Dick probably threw his hat into the ring to give the kid options.
Now Tim has this grand scheme to circumvent all this by hiring an actor to portray a made-up uncle but he looks out at the city one night and is Tired. This city stole his peace, bits of his flesh, his friends and now his dad. Suddenly he doesn’t want to live there anymore. He makes a phone call and a few days later, he’s on a bus to Smallville to be fostered by Martha Kent.
Kon was a little surprised at the call but Martha didn’t hesitate to sign those papers. She’d seen the fallout of Tim when his mother died, if no one else would take care of Tim then she would. He arrives with a backpack full of clothes and a U-Haul of computer equipment which he sets up in the back guest room barely leaving room for a bed.
He goes to Smallville High with Conner, eats an early, homemade dinner by Ma who kisses his forehead before he Zetas back to Gotham for patrol. He’s still Robin, still fights and bleeds for Gotham. But he can’t live there, not right now. Bruce is doing his pouty hurt dad routine, Dick thinks he’s trying to make a move on Kon but really Tim is tired of the brutality of the city and wants some peace for once in his life. He Zetas back early in the morning, quietly knocks on Ma’s door so she knows he’s back and heads to bed.
His allergies give him hell in the country but he still insists on helping Kon with chores. Conner laughs at how badly he fumbles through livestock feeding and crop tending and starts working on ways to make it more efficient. He sleeps through class and spars out in the open fields and, when he’s feeling homesick, Kon will fly him real high and drop him and he can pretend like he’s just dived off a skyscraper. Martha reminds him to eat, to sleep, to wash behind his ears and stop looking at gruesome crime scene photos at the dinner table. Tim’s never had a happy, normal family situation. It unnerves him but it soothes him too as he works, really works, on some of his more self-destructive habits. For Ma’s sake. Martha knows this is only temporary, that Tim can’t, won’t, stay away from Gotham forever. But she drapes a blanket over his shoulder where he’s fallen asleep 5 minutes into a movie on the couch and brushes his hair out of his sleep deprived eyes. She loves Bruce like a second son but Tim is her baby now too and she’ll tear B to shreds if he doesn’t properly care for Tim when he returns.
Kon and Tim, who’d been kind of dancing around their feelings for years, are now in an equally strange dynamic of ‘are we brothers now? are you just a bud crashing indefinitely at my house? we come and go from Titans Tower together what does everyone THINK is happening???’ and settle for just doing nothing. They do stay up late on nights Tim isn’t in Gotham talking about bad tv shows and how lame school is and rocket ships and the latest supervillain scandal. As weird as the situation is, Tim looks happier and healthier than he has in ages. Plus it’s kinda rad to have a sleepover with your best friend every night. As far as he is concerned, Tim never has to step foot in Gotham again.
Clark comes back to the farm from a long space mission to find Batman’s latest sidekick typing up a storm typing on a computer with one hand and stirring soup with the other. “Sup,” Tim mumbles as he remains focused on both his tasks. “Sorry, guest room is mine now. I’d offer it up but it’s a pretty tight fit in there with all my gear.” And that’s how he found out his Mom may or may not have legally kidnapped Batman’s sorta maybe I guess not kid from under his nose and he’s Clark’s unofficial little brother. All he knows is Bruce is going to be a nightmare at the next League meeting.

Hey there! Can I ask for being ex's with Jason Todd and he broke up with reader because he thought she would be better off/safer without him, but now he wants her back hcss
Jason Todd Breakup Headcanons

Jason would have to take a lot of time to think about breaking up with you before he does it, and he certainly doesn't want to. But his constant thoughts of you getting into danger or being hurt like he was because of his lifestyle he can't think of another option in order to keep you safe.
When he does break up with you he tries his best to stay emotionless and will keep all emotion in until he's walked away from you and you can't see him if he can. He wants to break things off as clean as possible, and in doing this emotionally he can hopefully prevent you from trying to make him stay.
Jason instantly has regret about what he did and leaving you but he sticks to his decision as he feels like it's to late to turn back. He's believed he was doing the right thing for a long time and doesn't want to instantly ruin the plan he's decided on just to potentially put you in danger for a longer amount of time.
The regret eats him alive and he's in pain because of the break up for an incredibly long time, it may even be something he never recovers from. However, he firmly believes that you're a lot safer now without him and hopes you're doing well without him putting your life at risk.
He's so angry and stressed about the breakup that he forces himself into crime fighting binges and constantly puts himself in danger to get in as many fights as he can whilst getting rid of crime in Gotham at the same time. By doing this Jason is able to get out everything the breakup has been fuelling inside of him while also making Gotham a safer place for you to live in, even if he can't be with you.
After doing this for so long he realises that these feelings won't go away and that he can't cope without you. You calmed him and humbled him during the times he was ready to go on rampages and he realises that without you he'll only cause more terror and damage in the city than good, which is the opposite to what he wanted from his actions.
Jason will start to watch you from a distance in order to get closer to you again without directly putting you in danger again. He's desperate to see you with his own eyes and the idea of something happening to you without him knowing further pushes him to watch over you and protect you without you potentially realising that he's there.
If you've moved on from Jason he'd be absolutely heartbroken and consumed by his own anger. He'd act out and would potentially put himself in many life threatening situations just to distract himself, and he'll get seriously hurt as a result. People he's close to would try to intervene, but to Jason it would be too late to change anything and may even result in behaviour stemming from his Arkham Knight days.
If you don't move on and you're just as hurt by the breakup as he is then he'll be incredibly upset by it. He would instantly realise how much of a mistake it was to leave you, especially in the way that he did it, so he makes it his new goal to make you happy again and ensure your safety by being close to you as much as he can rather than keeping his distance.
He'd approach you on a quiet night when he doesn't have much crime to deal with and would try to sit you down for a long conversation where he's honest and open with you. He'd be severely upset and emotional during the conversation but his main point would be apologising to you and asking for another chance if you'd give it to him.

Part 2 of Dad!Tim AU (so Q doesn't murder me in my sleep /aff) tw: referenced rape, referenced attempted/intended murder
(Part 1)
As we hit the ninth month, everyone is tense and on tenterhooks, but Tim is by far the worst. He can't sleep for more than an hour without jerking awake from a nightmare: the faceless child growing up, hands around a sword, smirking on Ra's's right hand, maybe coming to Gotham, but to hurt Tim's family, not join them... other times it's the child dying in infancy or even birth, and Tim doesn't know if that part is worse, the grief, or the next part, the fear, as Ra's's sister advances on him to try again
Nine months to the day since Paris and Tim is a wreck and the whole family is buzzing out of their skin, ready to ACT, but its not until 2 weeks later that they finally get Talia's call.
And in the background, there's a baby crying
Everyone is all wtf talia we said we were gonna WAIT and she grimly tells them there would be no waiting, she needs them to come pick up the baby now. Because the baby is a girl. Because Ra's will only accept a MALE heir, and he's not going to bother raising a child he has no use for. Because Ra's's sister is furious with the disgrace of bearing the wrong sort of baby and wants nothing to do with something that was supposed to be her greatest honor. Talia can only be gone so long before they will realize she has not in fact buried the infant in the snow, so they need to come NOW
Everyone bursts into frantic motion, freaking out, livid, terrified. Its all way too much, and Tim just sits and stares blankly, because he thought he'd have just a little more time. Dick sees this, and gently asks if Tim wants to stay back, and if he wants someone to stay with him. He does. So the others go, and Dick sits and holds Tim's hand as Tim tries to process. And he realizes that if not for Talia, all of his pain, all of his terror, all the violation would be for absolutely nothing.
And then he realizes that makes him MAD.
How dare they? He thinks. How DARE ra's and his sister throw the child away just because Tim gave her the "wrong" chromosome? HOW FUCKING DARE they treat a human child like a goddamn happy meal toy, like it -- she -- is disposable because she isn't what they wanted?
He gets up ("Tim?" Dick asks softly) and goes to find Alfred. The room right across from his, Alf, the one that has a view of the gardens, thats the nursery. Tim may still not be READY for this but he'll be damned if he can't do better than fucking RA'S.
So he and Dick and Alfred spend the tense, anxious hours moving and arranging baby stuff in the room, while Barbara folds all the onesies and diapers into the drawer and calls leslie about formula bc they don't know any nursing mothers
They get the call that the family arrived, they have the baby, they're on their way home, and Talia will keep up the pretense as long as she can so they can get back to Gotham. Baby's sleeping now, they say, and swear she looks just like Tim.
"You've got a regular little Snow White on your hands," Jason laughs, and no one on the plane is ever allowed to tell Tim how close Jason came to stealing his child (HER CHUBBY LITTLE CHEEKS STEPH JUST LOOK i see them jay.) "Black hair, pale skin (you're still paler), red lips, well, whole red face when she really wants to wail."
Tim doesn't know what to make of that yet, but at least maybe it seems like he'll be able to look at the child without constantly seeing her mother. (Not that she deserves that title).
They can't paint the nursery tonight and have it be dry, but they're going to paint it, Tim decides. Something colorful and happy, not like the soulless beige he grew up with. Nothing like his soulless childhood.
The family arrives. They arrive and Tim and Alfred and Barbara and Dick go down to meet them, Tim clutching Dicks hand. The door of the plane opens and they file out, and its Cass, a complicated mess of emotions on her face, who holds out the tiny, TINY little swaddle
Tim's hands are shaking as he reaches out, but no one says so. Dick just carefully supports Tim's arms to make sure he's steady
Jason was right, he thinks. She is a little Snow White. Her skin's a little darker than his, but still paler than he'd have thought. She's got black hair, but that was a guarantee. She's got a little red mouth that yawns into a perfect O and blinks open blue eyes, but he doesn't know if they'll stay that color.
Its hard to believe he's a FATHER. He has a DAUGHTER. He's still only 17.
That's when Baby begins to cry, and Tim panics, and the others have to calm him down and promise its not his fault, she's only hungry, and they go upstairs to get a bottle. Then they all troop to the nursery, where Alfred and Bruce have to help Tim settle in Martha's old rocking chair, and show him how to hold the Baby in one arm and the bottle in the other hand, and help her eat.
Slowly the others trickle away, to sleep, to give him privacy, because jts all so surreal, and there may or may not be tears on Tim's face. Finally its just Bruce and Alfred, and they help Tim put Baby in the cradle thats been in the Wayne family for nine generations. Then they go, and Tim's still sitting on the rocking chair, staring, like this fever dream is going to disappear, and there won't be baby or nursery or this awful terrifying weight in his chest, and he's not sure if he would really want that or not
He hears a soft sound by the door and springs up, grabbing for a weapon he doesn't have, but its only Damian, looking as lost and unsure as Tim.
"I thought you went to bed"
"I could not sleep."
Tim can't really argue with that
Damian edges closer, looking at Baby's face like he's searching for something there.
"Have you named her?"
"No," Tim scoffs, because he didn't fucking want her, he thought she'd come with a name, just barely laid eyes on her or held her. Then he feels shame because what kind of father doesn't want to name his own child? His voice softens as he explains, "i have no idea where to start"
"At the end then," Damian suggests, just as soft. "With Wayne." And it might just be the kindest thing the kid has ever said to Tim.
"Ok," he says. "And in the middle?" It feels like a cop-out, asking Damian of all people to name TIM's child. But Tim can't... there's no logical process to follow here, naming is an emotional experience, it forges a CONNECTION and Tim just... all that furious resolve is much harder to draw from when he's confronting the reality it entails
Damian purses his lips, hesitating. Finally, he says, "There's Bahar. It... it means 'brilliant.'"
And at first, Tim balks, because no, that's what RA'S wanted from the child, Tim's brilliance, and what the FUCK, Damian-- and then he realizes. That... this might be, no it probably is, Damian saying "fuck ra's. The baby girl will be brilliant, and you're brilliant too."
He finds himself smiling, just a little, and repeats, "Bahar. I... I like it."
Damian smiles just a faint bit too, then.
"What... what about the beginning?" Tim tries, but Damian shakes his head and tells him that's for Tim to decide. He turns to go. Then Tim calls him back.
Slowly, hesitantly, Tim asks, "What's the word for 'snow?'"
Perfect little snow white... bury the kid in the snow... fuck ra's...
"... 'eira.'"
Damian leaves, and Tim looks down at the tiny little baby.
"Eira," he tries. "Eira. Eira Bahar Wayne."
It almost looks like Eira smiles.

✿ how i think some dc universe characters would react to you looking up to them [viewing them as like, an older sibling]
so i feel like general backstory for this would be maybe you being taken in after the loss of your family. like some sorta wild ass adoption like in my little moon oneshot.
reader is most definitely shmol. you are baby. probably no older than like, 11 or 12 or something. just, in general, you are a child
╔⏤⏤⏤╝❀╚⏤⏤⏤╗
Bruce...
...was definitely kind of surprised the first few times you'd followed him around everywhere. He couldn't quite figure out how someone a little younger than Damian's age was able to find him so curious, following him around with just those adorable big round eyes full of admiration.
He finds you just about everywhere he goes. When he's walking around Wayne manor, he spots you hiding behind a corner just watching him.
He starts getting concerned when he even sees you following after him on patrols as Batman, too.
But his attempts at telling you to stay at the Wayne estate with Alfred to be futile, as he sees you just learned to hide in plain sight.
So eventually he just gives up and makes sure you stay close when he's out and about. If he gets into a fight? He makes sure you stay up and out of reach as he takes care of business.
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Jason...
...most definitely was mean to you at first. Didn't understand just what part of you thought he was someone that should be looked up to. He used to kill people, after all.
He doesn't think of himself as someone worth admiring because of the torture he was put through by the Joker. He thinks you should be looking up to someone like Dick or something.
But yet even when you follow him around no matter how often he's mean to you, he's surprised. He's surprised because he figured just being rude would turn you away.
But yet it didn't, and your still following him around like some sort of lost puppy. Like a lost puppy that was admiring him.
The look in your eyes when you think he does something cool takes him by surprise, too. He's not used to it, and he just usually scoffs and says "whatever" or something along those lines.
He does come to tolerate your presence after awhile. Maybe even welcome it, because your like a little light in the dark of his world. A little light he will do everything to make sure doesn't get snuffed out by the cruelty he knows all too well of.
He'll eventually give up on making sure you don't follow him on his patrols, too. He seriously doesn't want you to, because he doesn't want you to one day see him use lethal force [if he ever has to]. But yet, you keep following him.
So he just adapts around it. Just like Bruce, he makes sure you are up and away from the fights he's in so there is little to no chance of you getting hurt.
If your on a rooftop and he sees a villain coming towards you two? He's charging towards the criminal/villain and making sure the fight takes place on the ground. He does not want to let there be a chance you get injured.
After all, injury means chance of death. And he doesn't want to have to see you die.
So odds are, your probably sitting on the edge of some buildings rooftop, legs swaying over the edge as you just watch him do his thing, admiring him as always.
He'll tolerate your admiration and your view of him as a big brother/role model, as long as he has the means to keep you out of harms way.
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Tim...
...definitely thought that you following him around everywhere was pretty adorable. After all, you were just a little kid. And he most definitely knew in an instant you looked up to him.
It just kind of boosted his confidence, y'know?
He is a little alarmed by you following him around when he's on patrol, he makes sure to instill into you that you are to not do that. But you probably don't listen, which results in him quite literally racing around Gotham trying to lose you so he can patrol without worrying your going to get hurt.
Has probably called Bruce to tattle on you being away from Wayne manor because you were following him, resulting in Batman suddenly appearing to forcefully bring you home.
This usually makes you upset, because all you want to do is see all the cool things Tim get's up to!
So he'd probably bring you gifts back to make up for it. Like maybe snacks, candy, or some cute little stuffed animals if you're a fan of them.
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Dick...
...definitely just let that get to his ego. He always views himself as role-model, big brother material.
But he is very sweet to you, though. I can see him getting you small gifts from time to time, and if he finds something interesting on his patrols as Nightwing, I can see him bringing it back to show you.
Definitely likes to scare the shit out of you if you started following him on patrol. He'd go around a corner, and when you'd turn that corner and don't see him, you'd be super confused and then suddenly your screaming bloody murder because he'd appeared from behind you and just yelled in your ear.
If he's patrolling as Nightwing during the day and your walking to and from school/work? I can see him walking with you, talking to you about your day or the things he's seen on patrol so far. He'd take the detour for a little while to make sure you get to where you need to be, and safe all the while!
And the moment he's escorted you towards your destination, he'd ruffle your hair and tell you to let him know when you leave so he can come walk with you again before he leaves. [only after seeing you physically get inside and disappear from his line of sight of the building you'd been headed to.]
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Cassandra...
...probably thought you were weird, at first. I mean, you were pretty much everywhere. At school, she'd see you just staring at her from within the crowds.
She'd see you whenever she had to visit Wayne manor, staring at her from around a corner, or attempting to hide at the top of the staircase.
She definitely did not nearly have a heart attack the first time she spotted you staring at her while she was on patrol. As far as she was aware that day, you didn't know about her Batgirl alter ego.
You did, of course. But she didn't know that. She was less surprised the next couple of times it happened, sometimes catching you from the corner of her eye when your walking somewhere in Gotham just stopping to look at her as she goes by.
She did eventually start thinking it was interesting that of everyone, you chose her to look up to. To view as a sort of big sister.
She gets used to it after awhile, but she doesn't really get why you look up to her that way.
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Babs...
...most definitely thought it was the cutest thing in the world that you looked up to her when she found out.
She'd definitely tell you about all the cool things she'd found on patrol, or would send you random five [5] second clips of the different things she saw. Maybe even a few photos here and there.
If she was ever on patrol with someone else? You definitely bet your getting all the funny pictures if they ever had the misfortune of getting into embarrassing situations.
She'd definitely like to bring you to the different places she'd find on patrol. [if they weren't in the downright awful parts of Gotham]
She seems the type to let you babble about stuff you are interested in to her just so her patrols aren't so boring, because she'd probably be calling you on nights that it's super quiet with seeming to be a little too peaceful for her liking.
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Stephanie...
...was, needless to say, definitely caught off guard.
She was most definitely pretty sure there were others in the bat family that would make better role models than her, but you'd always tell her that she was the coolest.
Definitely gave her a little confidence boost whenever you'd tell her why you looked up to her.
If you ever called her big sister/big sis, she hands down immediately would never let a thing happen to you. She'd never admit it, though. Not out loud, at least.
This is mostly because I can see her and Cassandra having that sort of relationship where they relentlessly tease the fuck out of each other. And if Cassandra ever learned that she would hands down be willing to bend a few over own moral rules to keep you safe?
She'd never hear the end of it.
If you were ever needing to be in any bad part of Gotham to walk back to Wayne manor, she'd always be right there to walk with you.
If she wasn't walking right next to you, she was following you from the rooftops of different buildings to make sure you were safe.
Never stopped thinking you were weird for looking up to her, never got used to it, either.
-ˋˏ ༻❁༺ ˎˊ-
Damian...
...does genuinely not understand why you think he's so cool. Doesn't understand why you smile whenever he just tells you a story about something he did on patrol.
"Stop smiling at me," He'd tell you. "Stop staring at me." He'd also say.
He'd call you weird, and would get all grumpy whenever you'd just stay optimistic and continue admiring him.
If you start following him on his patrols? He's unintentionally started a game of chase because he's hopping rooftops and scaling down fire-escapes to try and outrun you so he can have his peace and quiet again.
It works for awhile, but eventually you start learning how to keep up with him really well so he just gives up after an hour.
He may seem like he hates it on the outside, but on the inside it's the highest form of compliment for him.
Eventually it's almost a form of "I Spy" for him, to try and spot you amongst his surroundings. Whether it be at school or on patrol. You're just about everywhere he is, almost 24/7.
Thinks your weird for looking up to him or viewing him as a big brother, but he secretly likes that you do.

Yandere bruce wayne headcanons
Tw; drugging, kidnapping, broken bones, violence just general yandere things.
The batman 2022 version of bruce wayne but you can imagine any version
Let's get one thing straight, if Bruce has his eyes on you you're screwed absolutely no one can help you in this situation so it's better if you play along. He'll be much nicer if you do.
He'll probably kidnap you very early on into meeting you (if you ever meet that is) perhaps you hadn't. Maybe he had seen you on his nightly patrols as Batman and thought you were too weak to be walking around Gotham streets at night and from there he follows you 'just to make sure they get home safely' is what he tells himself as he follows you for the seventh night in a row. It becomes like habit for him to look for you
He's not usually a very affectionate yandere and he won't touch you often especially in the beginning stages of the relationship it's not as though he doesn't enjoy affection though as long as it's coming from you he loves it, he just isn't aware of how to give affection freely he's a bit awkward with un-sexual affection and he's sure you wouldn't enjoy his affection anyways since he's your kidnapper so he leaves you be and only touches you when absolutely necessary like you trying to escape.
To make up for kidnapping you bruce will often buy you expensive gifts and items he thinks you'll like in fact more often than not he'll just give you his credit card and tell you to 'buy whatever you want' he doesn't really mind leaving you with his credit card because there is nothing he cannot afford and it gives him satisfaction to know nobody could take care of you as well as he could.
If Bruce feels like you are taking too long to warm up to him or he wants to be able to hold you without you fighting against him he'll have Alfred put drugs in your food so that you become pliant to him.
Speaking of cuddling he fucking loves cuddling he's a bit touch starved and so touch can get a bit overwhelming for him he basically is relearning how good physical intimacy can feel this also means at random lows he will crave a lot of physical affection from you which means you'll probably be drugged more often whereas it used to be maybe once a month.
You probably will grow some sort of relationship with Alfred first seeing as he isn't the one to dole out punishments and is usually the one to feed and or take care of any injuries you may have he also would go into the room you were locked into to keep you company if you'll allow him. he knows what bruce is doing is wrong but he doesn't have the heart to tell him off or let you go and so he tries his best to help you while also keeping Bruce's trust. Bruce is honestly glad if you start to get along with Alfred since Alfred is a big part of his life and he wants you two to like each other.
Once the relationship begins moving along he will become more open with you about his emotions, how he feels about you and why he needs you to stay with him.
It'll take a while before he opens up about his parents about how he watched them die. he's sure you already heard the story after all he is the bruce wayne but he tells you it anyways to guilt trip tell you why he needs you to stay with him that you help fill in the hole in his heart that if you left he doesn't know what he'd do to himself it's all to guilt trip you of course he's sure no matter what he could always bring you back no matter how many times you try to run.
His punishment ranges from locking you in your room for a couple of hours to a few days on end mind you the room is fully decorated and filled with things you like so it's not a real punishment however if your behavior continues he begins to take away things you like so you're more likely to apologize. Now if you'd tried to escape multiple times he would break one of your legs he would do it as cleanly as possible so it won't leave any lasting damage but it will still hurt terribly and if he was really angry he wouldn't let you have any pain meds for the first couple of minutes. You could be crying and begging for any relief of pain he'd only cup your cheek, kiss your head and apologize. You'd think he'd finally allow it but he goes on "I'm sorry you have to be punished like this, if you'd just obey me you wouldn't be in this situation. Unfortunately you had to be a brat and now you're reaping the consequences." And oh he loves seeing your teary eyes widen when you realize he wasn't going to relent and help you.
After that you'd hopefully learnt your lesson and stopped trying to run away, not that you could, Bruce was all too happy to roll you around in your wheelchair to have you solely rely on him for basic tasks like bathing and undressing.
A/n ;this is just a basic rehash of my yandere alphabet but with a few more things and some things expanded upon while I work on bigger things.
Update; my dumbass forgot to add tags before I went to sleep smh

Nightwing BTHB: Slowly Running Out Of Air
Tumblr media
Star / Done // Moon / Requested // Eye / Next
Ao3
Summary: Dick wakes up chained to the bottom of a pit. Then, it starts filling up.
Warnings: Kidnapping, Hopeless Situations, Permanent Injury, Amputation, Blood, Drowning
---
To nobody's surprise, waking up is absolutely a bitch.
He groans and shifts, trying to find his bearings, and the first thing he notices is that there's a rattling of clinking metal as his foot moves. Morbidly curious, Dick peeks his eyes open; all he sees is his own hand and a metal wall.
Dick's head pounds like one of the seven dwarfs got stuck in his skull and is trying to mine themself out through his eye sockets. Dick wouldn't be surprised if that dwarf was named Grumpy.
One thing this is helpful for is that he can immediately tell that he's Nightwing. There's no other time in his daily life he would wear black gloves with blue stripes going down his middle fingers.
His causon immediately rises with this new information. Nightwing waking up somewhere like this—with a headache, on the ground, with the sound of what's most likely chains, is never good.
He risks shifting again, making it seem like he's groggily beginning to wake up from whatever drug he's been hit with just in case someone is watching. There's definitely chains clinking down by his feet, specifically his left ankle.
He peeks his eyes open to better survey his location, however all that he discovers is more rusted metal walls and floor of the same material. The wall is rounded and about a foot and a half from his face. When he stretches his leg that's not connected to the chains, he hits the wall behind him. He glances up, and sure enough the walls around him expand upwards what must be a little less than fifteen feet. There's a grate laying over the mouth of the walls, showing more ceiling higher up and shrouded in shadows.
He's chained to the bottom of a metal pit.
This doesn't sound good at all.
He closes his eyes and stills, trying to figure out where he is and what he was doing to end up here. He was obviously doing something on patrol… perhaps a mission? He's not sure, the drugs in his system, while milder than most he's woken up with before, is making it really hard to recall much of anything. Honestly, the last thing he remembers is getting a phone call from Jason.
He slows his breathing, stilling so that he looks asleep to anyone watching.
Come on Dick. Just retrace your steps. You got a phone call from Jason... You answered… there was a hole in your sock. He wanted… what did Jason want…
"Big bird?" A voice calls, the tones becoming distorted as it echoes down the metal pit. "You up?"
"… Hood?" Dick tries, opening his eyes and looking up. Jason doesn't sound hurt or particularly startled, but Dick can't see anything above him other than the grating and the ceiling.
"I've been up for the past half hour," Jason's explains, "m'not hurt. But no one's come yet."
Dick nods to himself. So they've been captured together, but their captors might not be watching. "You in a pit too?" Dick asks, slowly working himself up so he's sitting.
He grabs onto the wall for balance when he gets to his feet. There's a heavy shackle definitely around his ankle, one that's not coming off without the key or very specific tools. It's tight too, he can feel it squeezing awkwardly against his tendons and bone. The chain connecting the shackle to an eye-hook in the floor looks several feet long, wound up in a neat pile on the floor to his side.
"No, tied to a chair up here," Jason answers as Dick begins to take stock of himself. He's been close to completely disarmed of anything useful. The only things he can find stock of is a few wingdings, some smoke pallets, his escrima sticks…
The things that are missing include his stash of small explosives, his rebreather, and his lockpicking set. Three things he's usually good at remembering to pack.
"Do you know what happened?" Dick asks as he bends down to inspect the chains and the eye-hook. The chains are almost a half inch in diameter and expertly wielded. The chains have bits of rust here and there, but none that would suggest breakage any time soon. The eye-hook is probably his best bet, as it's thick and heavy-duty, but clearly just screwed into the floor.
"You don't remember?" Jason scoffs, amusement in his tone. Dick grins, Jason either doesn't know or he, himself, needed some time to recall. "We were going through the Narrows before we got sniped by tranqes."
Dick brings his hand up to the bit of skin that's exposed to his neck where he immediately feels a sharp pinch of pain from what's definitely irritated skin thanks to a barbed dart being yanked out from it's target.
That's right. They were sniped. It was just a simple patrol together, just for the heck of it, and next thing Dick knew he was collapsing to the ground with his body feeling floaty and far away.
He huffs. "Why can't Gotham criminals ever be normal?"
Jason snorts in response.
Dick kneels down by the eye-hook and wraps his hands around it, looking for the best grasp despite the awkward shape and angle. Once he feels like he has an okay enough grasp, he begins to turn.
It doesn't budge.
"How stuck are you?" Dick calls before trying again at the hook.
It still doesn't move as Jason answers—it must be glued in somehow. "Pretty stuck. Chair's bolted to the ground, used way too much duct-tape, took everything useful."
Dick opens his mouth to ask how likely Jason thinks he'd be able to escape on his own, but then something groans within the walls of the pit.
"The hell?" Jason murmurs.
"Uh, Hood?" Dick calls anxiously, walking over to where the noise came from. He places his hands on the wall and frowns at the distant rumblings under his fingertips.
Jason answers with a frustrated and cautious voice. "There's a TV on the wall in front of me, it just turned on."
Dick hums and looks down at the seam where the wall meets the floor. He frowns when he notices small sections of grating; thin but strong graphs of wire cover small little holes in the wall, barely three inches in diameter.
However, when he turns around, he counts about 8 of these holes.
"The quality is really bad," Jason continues, "but I think it's of you."
"What's going on?" Dick looks up and sure enough, what looks to be a small and cheap looking knockoff of a GoPro sits taped to the grating above him.
Before either he or Jason can say anything more, the almost mechanical groaning in the walls becomes louder and then Dick finds out what those little holes near his feet are for.
Water pours through each hole, immediately sloshing around his shoes. Panic and understanding shoots adrenalin through his veins, he kneels down in the water that's already around his ankles and forces one of his wingdings into the middle of the eye-hook, using it as a handle for him to better turn.
At least the water isn't cold.
"Wing?" Jason calls, and Dick grunts as the hook stays stubbornly in place. "What's going on? I can't see anything."
One of Dick's hands slips in the water and he curses, bringing his hand up to see the fabric of his gloves cut through. "They're filling it with water."
"You for real?!"
Instead of answering, Dick tries again to break the eye-hook. Nothing works, all he does is cut the skin of his palms.
He swears colorfully as he stands back up, glaring down through the water that's now to the middle of his shins and contemplates kicking the hook, however he has a feeling that all he's going to accomplish is gaining an aching foot. He looks up at the grating.
"Let's say, hypothetically, that I managed to throw a wingding at you, would you have any chances of catching it and getting out?"
Jason's silent for a beat. "Maybe. If you throw it right at me. Also I hate that you call those that."
Dick rolls his eyes and adjusts his footing, looking at the chain and trying to calculate how heavy it's going to be. He should be fine. He just needs to rise with the water to a point where he can reach the grating. Once Jason's free, he should be able to help get Dick out of this literal death trap.
He explains his plan to Jason, and while it doesn't sound as thought out as it should be, it's still all that they've got.
That water slips over his knees, up his hips, to his chest, and eventually above his shoulders.
Once it became impossible to stand any longer, Dick forced himself to begin a steady tread despite the chain around his ankle. He knows the higher the water rises, the more heavy the chain will become...
But he's strong. He's good at swimming. With the amount of times he's been tossed into various harbors, he has to be.
"Wing?" Jason calls around when Dick has risen with the water to about the halfway point. Dick's left leg already burns from the strain of the chain, but he's been doing alright so far.
"Just focus on escaping, little wing," Dick calls, kicking his unshackled leg furiously as the weight on the other drags him under for just a moment.
The water continues to rise, and soon it becomes almost unbearable to continue swimming like this. But he has to. If he doesn't, he'll sink and drown.
Eventually, just as his legs are beginning to go numb with strain, he manages to hook the tips of his fingers around the grating above him. With a shot of adrenalin, he realizes that this is it. This is his last shot. It all amounts to these last moments whether he'll manage to escape, or if this is where he dies.
It's moments like these where he never feels more alive.
He forces his hands to get a better grasp as he already holds one of his meager stash of wingdings in his grasp. He works to lift himself up into the small few feet of air above the water, but he only goes up a couple inches before he's violently stopped by a tugging on his left leg.
Dick's stomach sinks.
"Uh, Hood?" He calls, forcing the coming panic out of his voice as the water steadily rises higher. The ripples tickle his Adam's apple.  "I can't- I can't get higher. You're going to have to help me aim."
"Alright," Jason says, his voice calm, which must mean Dick's unsuccessfully managed to keep his cool. "Follow my voice, I think I'm to your left."
Dick nods slightly to himself, but not too much because his chin would dip in the water that way. Working the grate like it's a set of monkey bars, Dick turns step by step until Jason tells him to stop. He keeps one hand white knuckled on the bars and then brings his other hand up as far as it can go, the wingding resting in his dripping fingers.
The shackle digs into his ankle as he tries to tug himself more upwards.
"Okay, a little to your right," Jason instructs, and Dick does as he's told. "Kay, aim up, alright?"
"Yeah," Dick gasps, his chin slapping the water. "Right."
He throws the wingding to the best of his limited abilities. He knows he misses when Jason makes a small growling noise.
"Put more power into it."
Dick can't help it. He lets out a burst of hysterical laughter. Power? He can barely move as it is, the only power that he's going to get with his hand just over the bars of the grate is going to come from his wrist.
Regardless, Dick brings his hand down and grabs another one of his weapons. He counts in a blink of an eye that he only has five.
He tries again, following Jason's instructions, and this time he gets closer to his younger brother, but it curves to the left and lands itself, apparently, into the screen of the TV. Breaking it.
"You're fine, big bird," Jason says, "you're gonna be fine. Let's just try again."
Dick can't respond. The water is brushing against his upper lip. If he could respond, he's sure he might laugh again at how hopeless this all is.
He tries again, and all he can hear is Jason saying it slid under his chair before the water completely rises above his ears. Dick's just managing to strain and keep his nose above the surface, but already if he breathes too loudly droplets will try to suck into his lungs.
He has two wingdings left. He can barely properly aim, and he can't even hear Jason all too well either.
He sucks in a breath and holds it just as the water rises over his nose.
He tries. He really tries to keep his calm and aim at Jason once again with muscle memory. He's been in deathtraps before.
Yet, the second he lifts his second to last wingding, the water stops rising right near his elbows. Just above his head.
And how cruel is that?
He doesn't know if he can risk this. If he aims and fires his last two wingdings completely blind like this and misses, then it's over.
He can hold his breath longer than most. But it doesn't matter how long he can hold his breath if he's chained down just below the surface.
Dick looks down at the shackle around his ankle, then feels the sharp wingding in his hand.
He needs to buy time. For himself… for Jason. He needs the shackle off so he can rise above the water and aim.
Before he can let fear talk him out of it, he lets go of the grating above him and allows himself to sink further into the water with the weight of the chain.
His ears are ringing and he can practically feel his pulse trying to burst from his neck, but he keeps his breath locked in his lungs and he keeps his eyes trained on his ankle.
Before he can talk himself out of it, he lets the adrenaline drive him as he plunges his own weapon into his ankle, right below the shackle.
Blood bursts from his leg like a cloud. Agony hits like a truck. But he keeps cutting, he keeps cutting because he has to. The adrenaline helps numb it a little. But it's all he can do to keep from screaming and sucking in the blood stained water as he hits the bone.
It takes a good few tugs and a few more desperate slices for him to finally feel the weight of the shackle and chain drop. Before he can allow what just happened—what he's just done—to hit him, he kicks up and forces himself to swim until he reaches the surface.
When he reaches air, he's not sure if he's coughing, sobbing, or screaming.
It hurts. It hurts. And soon enough, the water will drain him out of every single drop of his blood.
With shaking hands, he lifts himself so he's as close to the grating as possible. He has just a second to process how scared Jason looks on that chair, like he's trying to understand or process what just happened. Dick wonders if he knows what it means for Dick to be above the water. Dick wonders if Jason thought he drowned. Dick wonders if Jason saw the whole thing on the screen of a shattered TV.
Dick allows himself just a moment to mentally apologize to Jason before he gets his whole arm out of the grating and aims with perfect precision straight into the tape holding Jason's arm to the chair.
Right then, it feels like all the strength seeps out of him. He almost falls back into the water, wheezing, but he keeps his grasp strong and closes his eyes.
He's okay. He's okay. He's-
Water laps into his mouth and he can taste blood.
Now he knows it's sobs escaping through his teeth.
He holds on and forces himself to ignore the blood tasting water, ignore how weak and nauseated he's becoming. He holds on until there's a sound of a gun firing on the padlock keeping the grate down. He shifts to grab the lip of the pit as Jason lifts the grate. For a second, he slips and almost falls back into the water, but then strong hands grasp under his arms and heft him out.
Next thing he knows he's on his back in a puddle of water and blood and just trying to catch his breath.
"Holy shit, fucking- Wing? Can you hear me?"
Jason's panicking. Dick's coughing water. He's screaming water when Jason begins to wrap a torn piece of cloth from his leather jacket around his leg.
A tourniquet.
Dick writes as the agony in his left leg becomes blinding with each twist Jason makes in the cloth.
"Jason- Jason I couldn't-" Dick tries to explain, but his brain is woozy and his chest really hurts. "I didn't-"
I couldn't breathe. I didn't think. I couldn't get out. I didn't want to die.
"My leg- my leg, Jay- I can't-"
I can't breathe.
"Just hold on, you're going into shock-" Jason says, his voice so much weaker than what it normally is. "All of our stuff is in here- I already pinged B."
No. No, not B. Dick doesn't need Bruce. Dick doesn't need Alfred. Or the Batcave. Or the medbay. A few pills of advil. A pat on a shoulder.
He needs-
"Hospital," he gasps through clenched teeth as Jason bundles up his jacket and puts it under Dick's feet to elevate them.
Foot. Foot and mangled remains of his left leg.
"Jay-"
"Okay," Jason agrees, standing up and running to the other side of the room where—sure enough—all of their missing items lay.
Dick stares up at the ceiling while Jason calls for an ambulance. He listens to the shakiness to his tone and how he seems to stumble over answers he must be being asked. If Jason's this startled… it must be really bad.
Dick wants to look, but at the same time he knows he'll throw up the second he sees.
He takes a deep breath and tries to fight the armada of problems trying to assault him. The drowsiness. The confusion. The nausea. The pain. The shock.
But eventually, Jason's voice becomes a drone, and soon Dick's eyes are slipping closed.
He hears his name shouted before he falls unconscious.
When the black settles, the pain doesn't go away.
-o-o-o-o-
When Dick wakes up the first time, it's chaos. Shouting voices, a mask pressing against his face. He tries to open his eyes and figure out what's going on, but then something nudges his leg and he sees stars. He tries to crawl back to himself, but it's like he's pinned with sharp needles through butterfly wings. Before he can even try to open his eyes again through the tears, something pinches the inside of his elbow, and Dick loses himself again.
-o-o-o-o-
The second time he wakes, it's quiet. He feels like he's eaten so much honey that it has replaced his blood. His arms are heavy as he brings them to his face to rub at his blurry eyes.
As he rubs at them, he can feel the tugging of tubes running up his nose. The pull of a needle within the crook of his elbow. As he looks around, slowly realizing where he is—slowly remembering why he's here—the heart monitor picks up speed.
Of course, that's when a body he didn't notice until now shoots up like they have been trying and failing to catch some shut eye.
"Bruce," Dick calls weakly as Bruce zeros in on him. Dick's throat hurts. Everything hurts. He can't feel anything below his knee.
Thankfully, as he weakly holds his arms out, Bruce gets the message. Before Dick knows it, he's being gathered into Bruce's arms so he's sitting up and clutching to Bruce like his wrinkled suit jacket is his lifeline.
"How bad is it?" Dick asks with wobbling lips and a wobbling voice.
Bruce stills, then his arms tighten around Dick, and that's when Dick knows it's bad. A sob tears through his throat and he closes his eyes, pressing against Bruce. He wants to crawl away and not exist. He wants Bruce to make everything okay again.
He doesn't want to open his eyes to look. So he keeps them closed and allows his tears to stain Bruce's tie.
"They…" Bruce starts, sounding terribly unsure, "you were in bad shape. Shock. Infection already setting in. You lost a lot of blood... They couldn't save anything below the knee."
Dick wants to laugh at the absurdity of it all. He knows he was panicking back there, but he also purposely cut at his ankle to… to save his leg.
He lost it anyway. He wants to laugh. Instead he sobs harder.
Bruce tries to reassure him with the hopes the doctors have for a prosthetic, tries to explain he already has Lucius Fox on making one fit for Nightwing, but Dick can only cry and weep and mourn until eventually, he's practically boneless. He can barely keep his eyes open as Bruce lays him back down and tells him to get some more rest.
"Sleep, Chum, everything will get better."
Dick can't find it in himself to believe him. He sleeps anyway, if not to just pretend his entire life isn't over.

Absence
The first week goes by terribly slow. The second is far worse. You're currently right in the middle of the third week since Bruce went to Washington to fight an alien invasion. And there's isn't much in the news yet. On the quick talk you had with Bruce, he told you they're doing their best to deal with the situation before the world starts freaking out. These aliens look like humans, but are far stronger. And Bruce is human. He has no superpower but his intelligence, and that's worrying you to death. You know how well he can deal with this, but it's different... Now that you love him, it's different. The very thought of losing him is suffocating, unbearable. You try your best not to think about it too much, but it's a paradox. How are you supposed to stop thinking about someone who's in your head 24/7?
During this time, Alfred has been a very good company. He doesn't speak much, but with time, you notice he feels a bit more comfortable being around you. He was probably one of the many people to try and talk Bruce out of the idea of bringing you here. But you understand him. If you were in his place, you'd probably do the same.
“So, do you like me now?” You ask him, seated on the kitchen island, watching as he takes the lasagna out of the oven. You made it yourself. Alfred gave you Bruce's tablet, so you would have something to distract yourself. One of the things you started doing was cooking. You try a new recipe every day, and you think you're improving.
“I'm growing used to your presence, Miss Quinzel. And I must admit you're doing quite well considering... You know what.”
“Considering I was a criminal. Harley Quinn's sister. Sentenced to life in prison twice?” It's getting easier to talk about your old life. It doesn't mean you like it, but you don't feel so attached to it anymore. You feel like you can exist apart from it, evolve, have a different life.
“Yes.” Alfred nods.
“Did you try to make Bruce, not like me? You know... You must've noticed something.”
“The effect you had on Master Bruce was immediate.” He starts, cutting a piece of the lasagna for you and for himself. “He even thought about sending you back to Belle Reve in the beginning. Whatever that was, I thought it would vanish with time but it didn't.” He puts the plate before you, and you watch the smoke coming from it as you listen to Alfred. “I often caught him looking at nothing, daydreaming, thinking... And when I went to ask about it, the first subject was always you.”
You're blushing, biting back a smile. “How much... How much do you think he likes me, Alfred?” Lowering your voice, you look at him, who sighs.
“I think he loves you, miss Quinzel.”
“Love...” You mumble, wondering if that could be true. Guess only time will tell. And you hope you'll have time, that whichever species is threatening Earth will be defeated. “I'm scared, you know... Of what may happen.”
“Don't worry. Master Bruce always comes back.”
“That's good to know,” you whisper more to yourself than to Alfred.
The bright part of the day was that Alfred actually complimented your lasagna. And for a moment you were able to smile and forget your worries. But later, at night, you're staring at the TV, news channel on, looking for any signs of Bruce. Anything about the aliens that might mean something... But there's nothing.
“Perhaps he'll have time to call you tonight, Miss Quinzel,” Alfred says, trying to calm you down.
Bruce probably asked him to look after you, because Alfred is always around, distracting you when you're starting to overthink, or just asking if you're alright. It's kind really, but you would like it better if it was Bruce doing all of those things. “Maybe. But he's always in such a rush... I can't bear the idea of him getting hurt.”
“Master Bruce is–” The sudden change in the TV gets your attention, and you're both staring when the 'Breaking News' letters come to the screen, in bright red.
“Live from Washington. A giant being, not from Earth, just arrived. He came out of the ship that was hovering over the city and–” The woman speaks fast, and behind her, the city is up in flames. The camera moves away from her, focusing on some kind of human-like beast with gray skin and spikes coming off his body. The thing is kneeled on the ground, like a stone. “He just came out of the spaceship and destroyed a few buildings on his way. He stopped now, but the Justice League is already trying to take him down. Despite the efforts, the... Being doesn't seem to get hurt. It's just sitting there...”
Your heart is beating so loud you can't even hear the woman now. Stumbling up from the couch, you walk away from the living room until you can't hear the TV anymore.
“Miss Quinzel,” Alfred calls, and you sit on the stairs, both hands on your head.
You should be there. You've been to missions before. You could help. “Alfred, how do I get there?” You speak fast, standing up to your feet and going back to your room.
“Bruce wouldn't want you to go.”
“I don't care. I have to help him.” Being here, doing nothing as Bruce is out there fighting a freaking giant gray alien is stupid. “I know I'm only human, but–”
You're cut off by a ring coming from the tablet. It's Bruce. Running to get it from the nightstand, you breathe out relieved to see it's a video call. Sitting on the bed, you answer it. Seeing him brings a smile to your lips. He's wearing the Batman suit, but without the mask. “Bruce.” You put the tablet on the nightstand, using the lamp to support it because your hands are shaking a little.
“(Y/N). How are you?”
“I'm fine... How are you? A-are you alright?” Pulling your feet up, you hug your knees. He looks tired.
“I'm alright, don't worry about me, sweetheart.”
“How can I not worry about you? I saw it on the news, like two minutes ago... The huge gray monster, Bruce. I'm going there to help you.” You speak fast, already thinking about how you'd actually get there. A commercial flight isn't really an option, not for you.
“No, (Y/N). If you were here I'd lose focus.”
“I won't distract you, I promise. I want to help.” You beg because that's the least you can do after everything he did for you. And you'd be helping people too, after being a villain.
“If you were here I'd lose focus because I'll want to protect you. And that would become my priority.” Bruce lowers his voice, and Alfred leaves after mumbling something about giving you some privacy. “(Y/N), I need you to know that if anything happens to me, you won't go back to Belle Reve.”
“What?” What the hell does he mean by that? He can't say something like that... “No! Don't you even-don't you even... Bruce, I don't wanna hear it. You have to make it back.” You speak fast, tears in your eyes. You can't lose him just when things are just starting. This can't be the end.
“Please, (Y/N)–”
“No! I don't wanna hear it.” You yell.
“(Y/N), listen!” Bruce shouts too, his voice louder than yours. His sudden outburst shuts you up, but you're a mess, tears rolling down as you're forced to face the possibility of his death. “I will not let them put you back in that prison. So I made plans just in case...” He makes a pause. “You'd live with a friend of mine. Well, with his mother on a farm in Smallville. It's a beautiful place. You'd have a calm life, but I must ask you not to startle Martha too much.”
“I don't wanna go anywhere, Bruce,” you beg, drying off some tears. “I just want you to come back.”
“I know, my love. But I had to do this. I would never leave you unprotected.” He gets tense suddenly when an explosion happens. “And I will leave you my money. To you and Alfred. You'd have all the means to rebuild your life as you want. In the farm or somewhere else. Study, buy a nice house–”
“Screw your money, Bruce. I want you!”
Another explosion and someone calls him. “I have to go... Take care of yourself, (Y/N).”
“Please, be careful.” I love you. The sentence comes to the tip of your tongue again, but you hold it back. “Come back to me.” You're still speaking when the connection is cut.
You just stay here, paralyzed, looking at the screen where Bruce was seconds ago. He was there, so close yet so far...
Time starts passing by in a blur. You stopped watching TV because you don't want to know what's happening out there. If Bruce dies... Alfred will be the one to tell you. And whatever comes next, it won't matter. At first, you were angry, furious, certain that you'd leave the mansion and head back to your old lair, straight back into your old life. But as the days go by, and turn into weeks, you realize you can't do that. You can't undo what Bruce did like it was nothing. You know that, if the worst happens, you'd want to honor the memory of the man you love. So you'd go to the stupid farm, live the rest of your days remembering the days you spent here, the few kisses you shared.
Sometime in the numbness, you made your way down to the cave, where you started putting all your anger, fear, and desperation on a punching bag. It soon became a daily activity, and it didn't take long until the skin on your knuckles broke. Alfred taught you how to wrap a bandage around your fists to help with the impact, but even so, the blood soon started to soak the white fabric. Bruce will be happy to know that you didn't revert back to your old ways... If he ever has the chance to know.
Today, almost a month after your last video call, you're cleaning your knuckles carefully, gasping when the pain hits. The skin is basically gone, and it's a nightmare just to clench your fists. But it's the only way you can cope. Pain is the only way you know how to deal with everything you're feeling. And above all that, you're feeling dizzy, sore. It's so damn cold today, but you refuse to take a coat with you because you'll warm up as soon as start punching the bag. With one last look in the mirror, you leave the bathroom, taking the bandages and wrapping them around your hands. You hear low voices, chattering, coming from downstairs. Did Alfred invite someone? Nobody came here since Bruce left.
Bruce... You're going crazy because you swear to God you hear his voice among the others. “Get it together. Don't think too much.” You repeat to yourself the motto you made, saying it again and again for the last weeks. “Get it together.” But you hear it again, and low footsteps.
You're telling yourself not to do this, that it's probably just your mind playing tricks, but you're soon at the hall, the voices filling your ears as you walk fast to the stairs. You're halfway there when you see him, climbing the last steps. You stop on your tracks, too scared to be seeing a ghost, a hallucination. Impulse wins over fear, and you're running towards him, too scared to reach nothing. But your heart stops and you start crying when you reach flesh, and you immediately jump onto his arms, wrapping your legs around his waist. He's quick to hold you, sustaining your weight.
“Are you really here?” You mumble, your voice is weak and a little affected by the crying.
“I'm here. I'm back, sweetheart. It's over.”
You pull away just enough to kiss him, to make sure this is not a dream. You can feel your heart beating violently, and the kiss has to be brief because you're having a hard time catching your breath.
“Oh, my.” Someone says, and something gets your attention downstairs. When you look, you see the small group of people responsible for the chattering. The so-called Justice League. You jump down, suddenly noticing how you were clinging into Bruce.
“I didn't know you had company,” you mutter, fixing your hair. Bruce suddenly takes one of your hands, and then the other one.
“What's that?” He asks.
“I was on the verge of going mad so I befriended one of your punching bags.” As you speak, Bruce starts unwrapping the bandage, and you sigh because you didn't want him to see what's underneath.
“(Y/N).” He exclaims to see the wounds, the basically inexistent skin on your knuckles, and some blood already.
“I know, Bruce, I just... I didn't know what to do and... This is–” You're aware of the eight pairs of eyes on you. “You should give your friends some attention,” you whisper.
“Excuse me for a moment.” Bruce raises his voice before pulling you with him, back into the bedroom.
He's silent as he treats the wounds. It hurts like hell, so you bite your lip. The bandage he puts on is a different type, and then he wraps it all around your hand, and in between your fingers. He also applied some moisture to help the healing process. “Why did you do that?”
“Because that's the only way I know how to cope.” Bruce sits on the bed beside you, and you turn your body towards him. “I was... I was mad because I finally fell in love with someone and he could die, I...”
“Hey, let's not talk about it now, ok?” He brings his hand to your face, and you missed his touch so much. But there's a weird expression on his face, and his hand moves to your neck. “You're hot.”
“What?” You don't follow the sudden change.
“You have a fever.”
“Oh... Really? I didn't notice.” Well, you noticed the soreness and dizziness, and how your body has been weaker in the last two days.
Bruce goes to the bathroom again and comes back handing you a pill. “This will help lower your fever. Now come, let's get you a glass of water and introduce you to the League.”
He reaches out his hand and you take it. “Are you going to introduce me to them?”
“Of course.”
You take another route so you'll pass through the kitchen first. And then you make your way to the living room. Bruce is still holding your hand, and you're sure that won't go unnoticed. “Bruce, I think you should let go of my hand. They'll think we're together.” You whisper, forcing him to slow down his pace.
“They just saw us kissing. And you jumping in arms.” He stops, looking down at you.
“Oh... Sorry about that, I didn't know they were looking.”
“Do you think I'll hide our relationship?” Bruce furrows his eyebrows a little, his fingers caressing your chin.
“Won't you?” You was expecting that. You didn't think Bruce would ever let whatever is happening between you to get outside this mansion.
“Of course I won't.” He bends over to kiss you and you tiptoe to meet his lips halfway. “Now, come. They're excited to meet you.”
“Why would they be excited to meet me?” You mutter, shrugging your shoulders.
When you get to the living room, all eyes fall on you. Maybe they're curious to know the criminal Bruce sheltered. “(Y/N), these are Clark, Arthur, Diana, and Barry. Everyone, this is (Y/N) Quinzel.“ Bruce says, and you step forward to shake their hands.
“Hi,” you mumble, clearing your throat. “It's nice to meet you, guys. I've seen you on TV.”
“I've seen you on TV too,” Barry speaks up. “No offense.”
“None taken. Don't worry.” You assure him. “I made peace with my past.”
“So... You two, huh?” Arthur says with a smirk. He's holding a huge Trident, and you have no idea why he has this thing here with him.
“Bruce here couldn't stop talking about you," Diana says with a smile, and the others nod and giggle. They seem eager to embarrass Bruce somehow. But you're sure you're the one blushing because it's good to know that he was thinking about you as much as you were thinking about him.
“Age gap. Hot.” Arthur winks at you. Or at Bruce, you're not sure. And it only takes three words to make everyone a little uncomfortable.
“Arthur, would you shut up?” Diana gives him a hard stare.
“Can you talk to fish?” You ask him, trying to change the focus of the subject.
“In a way, yes.”
“That's cool. In an away.” Shrugging your shoulders and giving him a small smile, you exchange a glance with Bruce as the others giggle again.
“Sassy. We'll get along just fine.” Barry exclaims, high-fiving you.
“Well, you're welcome to stay as long as you want before you need to head back to you... Jurisdictions.” Bruce announces. “And as long as you don't say stupid things to my girlfriend.”
“He's talking to you, Arthur.” Clark comments.
“So you guys are officially dating?”
“Of course they are, Barry. Batman here couldn't seem to think about anything else than her during the whole mission.” Diana says in a sassy tone.
“Alright,” Bruce speaks up, sighing. “Make yourselves comfortable. Come, sweetheart.”
“It was nice to meet the girl who stole Batman's heart,” Arthur says as you start walking away with Bruce.
“Woman.” You correct him as you wave.
Bruce takes you upstairs again, and you can't help but smile like an idiot. You feel your cheeks warm, but you're not sure if it's the fever or if you're just blushing. Instead of stopping by your bedroom, Bruce keeps guiding you through the hall. Before you can say anything, he opens a door for you.
“I need a warm shower and attend to a few wounds. Thought you'd like to be around.” When you step in, you realize you've never been in his bedroom. It's huge. The bed seems to be twice the size of yours, and there's a lounge near a big window with a couch and a TV. “Make yourself comfortable.”
“Ok.” He places a soft kiss on your lips before heading to the bathroom. There's another door here, which probably leads to a closet. But you don't want to intrude, so you just seat on the edge of his bed.
After a few minutes though, you can't help but wander around a little, looking at his stuff. It kinda feels like Bruce is allowing you to get to know him better, to get closer... A while after you end up by his nightstand, taking a picture up to get a closer look. It's a child Bruce, with his parents.
“I see you already met Martha and Thomas Wayne.” His voice scares you and you put the picture down.
“Sorry.”
“Stop apologizing, (Y/N).” Bruce touches your arm, pulling you closer. You see a purple bruise on his neck, coming from his shoulder.
“You're hurt,” you say, pulling the collar of his shirt away so you can have a better look.
Bruce takes your hands in his, placing a kiss on the bandage wrapped around your knuckles. “I'm fine. Don't worry about me.”
“But–”
“Come here.” He pulls you towards the bed, sitting down, his back against the headboard. Taking a deep breath, you sit before him, but he keeps pulling you until your back is resting against his chest. “I fought a giant gray alien so I just want to sit here with you for a while.”
You smile to feel his arms around you, keeping you close, safe. You're very, very comfortable here, but you have to do something. So you move, turning around to face Bruce.
“What?”
“Sorry, but I have to kiss you.”
“Alright, but stop apologizing, ok? There's no reason to.” As he speaks, Bruce pulls you closer, a finger under your chin.
“Ok,” you mutter, smiling and slowly giving in into the kiss.

Captain the Retired Police Dog Part 3
I had no idea this would turn out like this, but here we are part 3
Just a quick warning this chapter is a bit sadder, but there will be plenty of fluff and love to try and make up for it. Also like 1 curse word
The next morning was a sad one for Marinette
She didn't want to leave her baby boy in the hotel room for the better part of the day
But she has no choice they're going to some museums today and they really don't want dogs in there no matter how well behaved they are
So Marinette filled up Captain's food and water and headed out
Marinette: Bye Captain be good we'll be back around 2, I left animal planet on for you
Captain gave Marinette a lick on the cheek as a goodbye and watched as his girl left without him
Even though Marinette didn't have Captain with her she tried to make the best out of the situation
She had to admit without Captain or Damian the trip felt a lot more lonely
The first stop was to an art museum.
Marinette loved it she was so inspired by all the pieces
She even got a couple of new designs out on it
Next came the superhero museum
Marinette loved that and it even helped her come up with a plan to stop Hawkmoth for good
It turns out that cities or other heroes can make formal request to get help from the Justice League to help with problems
And even though her and her team have grown as superheros Hawkmoth has also grown as a villian
Marinette fears the day that Hawkmoth decides to try and recreate Hero Day again
She knew she didn't have enough allies to call on anymore.
After the rift of the class the boy people she feels she can call upon now are Luka, Kagami, and occasionally Chloe
Chloe has gotten a lot better and she doesn't torment Marinette anymore
She mostly just keeps to herself and Sabrina now
She sometimes talks to Marinette too, but she wouldn't exactly call them friends yet
The next museum was local history museum
That was where Lila thought it was best place to have the "talk" she's been meaning to have with Marinette
Lila: Oh is poor little Marinette lonely without her stupid dog
Marinette: What do you want Lila. I literally haven't done anything to you. I stopped trying to exposed you, you took away all my friends in class, what more could you possibly want?
Lila: You silly stupid bitch. I may have done all that but do you really think I'm done? I won't stop until you're completely alone friendless, familyless, and dogless.
Marinette: What does that mean?
Lila: You just better watch the ones you love Dupen-Cheng. We wouldn't want anything to happen to them now would we. And you know how easily somebody could be akumatized nowadays
Lila walked away leaving Marinette shaken for the rest of the day
Tikki tried to reassure her chosen but there's only so much she can do when she's forced to stay inside a bag
Tikki leaned into Marinette's leg hoping to show some comfort to the poor girl who had to grow up way before her time
Marinette numbly: Thanks Tikki
Luckily for Marinette that was the last museum of the day, and before she knew it Marinette was back in her hotel room hugging Tikki and Captain close to her as she cried
Captain hated this it was like nothing he could do could help his girl
He didn't even want to think about what possibly could have happened to but her in this state
Marinette was still crying when she's got a call from Damian
Marinette was going to hit ignore but Tikki stopped her
Tikki: You should talk to him Marinette I know he'll make you feel better.
Captain budge her with his head to show his encouragement
Marinette just nodded her head trying to calm her breathing before answering her phone.
Damian: Hey Angel Titus and I are out fro-
Marinette in a broken voice: Da-Damian.
Damian suddenly on high alert: What's wrong Marinette?
Marinette tried to think about what to tell him, but she realized all she wanted was to be held in his arms
Marinette: Can you please just come up to my room?
Damian: Of course Angel what room and floor on you on?
Marinette told him and Damian went running with Titus at his heels.
Damian was barely aware what was going on around him until he was standing in front of his Angel's door. He could hear her sobbing through the closed door.
Damian was suddenly filled with the need to hurt whoever put his Angel in this state
Damian pushed his thoughts of murder aside and knocked on Marinette's door
As soon as Marinette opened the door she rushed into Damian's arms
Damian didn't know what to do, but he did what felt right
He wrapped his arms around the girl he's come to love so quickly, guiding them back into her room before any of her classmates can see them and does his best to close her door behind them
Captain seeing Damian struggle got up from his place on the bed and used his nose to close the door for Damian
Damian: Thanks Captain.
Damian guided Marinette back to her bed
Maneuvering them so they were now sitting on the bed Damian continued to hold Marinette close as she cried
Damian kept silent and just let Marinette get everything out of her system
The only time Damian moved was to press light kisses to the side of her head.
Titus and Captain also got in on the cuddle action surrounding Marinette silently letting her know that they too were there for her
After what felt like forever Marinette pulled away from Damian enough to see his face
Marinette: Sorry about that Damian I guess I ruined our date huh?
Damian wiping a tear from her cheek: Not at all Angel. What happened?
Marinette: Dont worry about it Damian. It's not important
Damian: If it made you cry then it's important and I want to hear about it
Marinette stay quite for a minute before she finally broke down and told him everything. About Lila's lies, about how the friends she'd known almost all her life choose someone they just met over her, about the feeling of isolation, and about Lila's threats.
Damian: I won't let Lila hurt you or anybody you love Marinette. Before she can even try I'll yeet her to the sun
Marinette letting out a giggle: Did you really just say yeet?
Damian chuckling: I thought it would cheer you up
Marinette still giggling: You were right
Damian: Do you still want to go out tonight, or do you want to stay here watch a movie and cuddle
Marinette: I think I want to cuddle
Damian: excellent choice habibata, and I know the perfect movie
Marinette: Oh really what's that
Damian messed with his phone connecting it to the tv
Marinette waited patiently for Damian to show her the perfect date movie and much to her surprise it's the 1999 Mummy
Marinette was a little skeptical but Damian was completely right
It was funny action pack and had a pretty good romance
Seriously guys this is my favorite movie
Marinette: I have to admit that was a great movie Damian
Damian: I know right it was one of the first movies I saw when I first moved to Gotham
Captain stared at this strange new boy and his girl
He did what Captain couldn't do
Reluctantly Captain officially accept this boy into his and his girl's life
If he could make her feel better then Captain would let him stay as long as his girl wanted him there
Damian and Marinette decided to take their dogs for a short walk to give them a chance to do their business and get some exercise before heading back to Marinette's hotel room to continue their movie night
After ordering some pizza from a near by shop the couple and their dogs spent the rest of their time together watching the other 2 Mummy movies in the trilogy then had a blast tearing apart the remake with Tom Cruz
Damian and Titus left after that movie, leaving Marinette feeling much better and safer.
Damian finally got home sometime after midnight. He expected everybody to be asleep or out on patrol but instead he found his family sitting in the living room
Walking towards them he was met by Ace
Damian: Hey girl how are you?
Damain rubbed the german shepherd's head
Ace gave the boy a lick on the hand before trotting away with Titus to go to sleep for the night.
Damian: I thought you guys would be asleep by now or at least out on patrol
Dick: We were worried about you Baby Bird. We thought you would be home hours ago
Bruce: Not to mention that you completely ignored our texts and calls
Damian: Sorry father something came up with Marinette, and she needed some cheering up so we had a movie night
Jason: seriously you spent 9 or so hours watching movies with your girlfriend
Guys I actually looked it up it would take about 8 hours to watch the Mummy trilogy plus the remake
Damian smirked: Yep and it was one of the best dates I've ever had. She has another free day tomorrow and we're going to hang out and go on another date
Tim: Really another date? And when will we be able to meet this girl?
Damian: If I can help it never.
With that Damian turned on his heels and heads to his room
Jason: So we're going to ambush them on their date tomorrow right
Dick and Tim: Definitely
Alfred: Are you sure that is wise? What do you think Master Bruce?
Bruce: If you're going to do it make sure you get some pictures
Dick winking: Will do
Tumblr media
A bit shorter then usual sorry. But after the Lila scene I wanted to spend the rest of the post making Marinette feel better, and I felt like this was the best way to end this part.
