Double Trouble
During a convention in Gotham, the Fentons brought the rebuilt Fenton Ghost Catcher, they were extremely proud of their invention and were going to catch as many ghosts as possible at their paranormal convention.
But as is normal in Gotham, a rogue attacked. Croc personally wasn't too interested in what was going on there but he was paid by some others to cause a distraction while some villains robbed the place and extra money was always great.
From the looks of it, the news that the Fentons were coming to Gotham were public. The Fentons were known as very reclusive weapon makers with peculiar interests. Their inventions sold very well, and were extremely dangerous so Peguin assumed that even if they were destined for "ghosts" they would work perfectly fine with bats.
Jason already knew that the two weapon inventors were in the city, the Bat was too paranoid not to know, but the Fentons never showed that they wanted to cause harm so when Croc attacked Red Hood was guarding the place.
The problem was that during the battle he was pushed into the Ghost Catcher and separated into two halves. One looked like the normal him but more ghostly? while the other was more lively and energetic. The second one looked like a bigger version of what Robin would have been without his death. Of course, the invention blew up right after that, and the Fentons looked sad.
Danny scrambled to hide both Jason before his parents noticed, motioning for him to be quiet as he watched the villains make off with the anti-ghost weapons. He knew the convention would turned into a mess since the beginning.

one thing i think people miss when trying to nail down the like nitty gritty of like-- okay. so post-crisis post-resurrection Jason's a hypocrite, right? and hes purposely fancast himself as the villain opposite bruce in utrh.
but also even while Jason's doing this he *has a point,* and he *knows it.* Jasons got a lot of big moral ideas hes spouting, and from what we see, he mostly only abides by *some* of them. so while you're like acknowledging that utrh/lost days jay is motivated by his emotions and doesn't act in ways that align with his moral principles, but also he *keeps bringing **up** those moral principles*, you start to wonder like. What the hell is going on in that big brain of yours jay.
and what i was getting at. the thing i think most people miss or forget when exploring that. is jasons appearance in outsiders 2003.
im looking through the tpb so im not giving you the exact issue numbers for any of these panels sorry but its 44-46 plus the annual.
but here is the crux of the matter:
Tumblr media
cutting for length!!
so whats going on here in outsiders! is that black lightning, aka Jefferson pierce, aka anissa pierces dad and one of the few really good dads in the dcu, got (basically) framed for murder by deathstroke; believed he (accidentally) actually did the murder; eventually turned himself in to serve his time in prison.
jason happens across this information entirely by accident, and goes out of his way to deliver that information to dickie, who has an on-again off-again relationship with being the leader of the outsiders at this point in time. and im just going to post a lot of it, both bc i like it and also so you see what Jason was going against JUST TO DELIVER THIS INFORMATION:
skipping the first page to save images but jason asks dick to meet up with him in Gotham; the next pages:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
im skipping a bit of really enjoyable fighting after that as well but pls know its there. jason asked dick to meet up and dick fully said okay ill come to your rendez-vous *just* to beat the shit out of you. and he was so valid for that. but this aint about him so lets get back to jason:
Tumblr media
why does jason bring this up + how does Jason come by this information? well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok. now youre as caught up as dick is.
some times fools and jackanapes say to me. but sisky why would jason do this and bring this information to dick. why would he try to break black lightning out of prison. why would he do such a thing when he is a known knave, neer do well, scoundrel, etc. to which i say HE TOLD YOU!!! HE TOLD YOU WHY HE DID IT
Tumblr media
JASON FUCKING VALUES THE *GOOD GUYS.*
(and also sidenote. winick is writing this so we have to assume he knows how competent and resourceful jason can be bc... as the guy who defined the character after his resurrection... he *made him that way.* so based on utrh we have to assume both that 1) jason could have pulled this prison break off solo and 2) jason *knows* he could pull it off solo...
but he also knows he's a Bad Guy now, and he realizes that *if* he sprung black lightning hed just fucking! turn himself back in! so jadon needs to convince some big goddamn heroes to do it....
so he goes to dick.)
((and also secondary sidenote. willis todd canoncially spent enough time in and out of prison that jason assumed hed wound up back there without telling him or catherine before she died and jason wound up squatting, and he only found out otherwise when he read the entry on the batcomputer on two-face.))
the point is. jason has a *lot* of moral ideas he is not, at this point in time, capable of living by for a variety of Jason Reasons, ill do more meta on that some other time. so he's inhabiting the bad guy role, but sometimes he keeps slipping and falling and accidentally caring about things, and...
god damn it dick, black lightning is one of the *good* guys. like *you're* one of the good guys. aren't you going to fucking help him??
i will probably elaborate on this more in the future as well. i just need to hit send rn LOL

I'll preface this by saying I haven't read the arc where Bruce shoots and kills Darkseid; I'm fuzzy on the details. the sources I've looked up here and there whenever the topic came to my mind seemed contradictory; I get the impression there was collaboration from some other heroes and it might've not been that clear cut? either way, I'm not going to read the arc rn (might in the distant future, if I choose to do something with it), but it seems there's agreement that this was the one time Bruce canonically planned to and followed through breaking his most sacred rule.
and I remember at one point I thought: what if this plot was used to give Bruce a better understanding of Jason's choices? what if it could make him not just willing to find a middle ground between them, but intentionally seek it? it wouldn't, couldn't be blanket acceptance, but if there's one point in canon that will even nudge him way from his increasingly uncompromising stance during the post-crisis/new earth continuity (1), it would be the one time he found his line in the sand, and realised that, unlike he always feared, he could walk back from it.
at the time it was no more than a passing thought, but just today, to close that chapter with the year, I read the very last few comics including new earth!Jason, in my completitionist quest of reading every single one of his (and every other version of Jason's) appearances. and two (technically three) of them reminded me of this.
one is his arc in convergence: batman and robin #1-2, published circa 2015 (revisiting new earth after 2011's reboot). it's part of a larger event that I can't be bothered to read fully rn (this ain't about them), but the gist of it is that Red Hood and Scarlet return to Gotham as some apocalyptic level shit is going down, helping Batman and Robin (Damian). Bruce accepts Jason's help, which bothers Damian, although by the end of the arc there's a truce between them and a clear willingness from everyone involved to work together going forward.
the other one is in batman incorporated vol. 1 #6, the last proper appearance of new earth!Jason before the reboot in 2011 kickstarted (the arc seemingly continued in vol. 2, but from what I already know about, and what little I've personally experienced from, the new 52, I'm not getting my hopes up). it consists on just a couple of panels where we don't see Jason's face or hear his name, and just see Bruce recruiting someone as "Wingman" (2), offering him a opportunity to "salvage a reputation" by joining his international bat-initiative, on a few conditions like keeping Jason's identity a mystery (3).
and I'm sure that if (when?) I read the aforementioned Darkseid's arc (and the subsequent time traveling shenanigans) there might be plenty to be found to contradict this post, because I do have some experience with detective comics comics. but these two instances are so easily aligned with my own take (4) that I had to post about it.
unfortunately, this is just making me mourn what-could-have-been, had the reboot never occured, even more than I ever did.
(1) pre-crisis/earth one!Bruce had a different attitude. and sometimes it feels that things like self-defence (batman vol. 1 #400) or defence of others (detective comics vol. 1 #411), two incredibly understandable motives, seem beyond the grasp of new earth!Bruce.
(2) if I ever do something with this plotbunny, I refuse to give him such a generic codename, just so we're clear.
(3) "we're building a ghost –a bogeyman too big to be clearly seen. its edges indistinct, it's full extent and purpose uncertain. a rumor. a terror made of shadows and flapping wings." MOURNING, I said 😭. also do you see why I think this deserved a much cooler name smh.
(4) the other things Jason did in between Bruce's not-so-dead experiences and this were during his Evol Era (battle for the cowl, batman and robin vol. 1). obviously nothing there would convince Bruce to suddenly approach him with more generosity than he did even in UTRH lol. but it'd make sense for it to be something Bruce did.

Like... TimKon is very funny to me because it is not inherently bad... it is just that almost everything that was Tim and Kon is almost always from Kon's worst times and the most distanced Kon is from Tim the better his writing has been.
It turkey does not help that this is attached to Tim Drake, whitest cunt in Gotham, who should be sent to the Sun so Damian can be back full time as the main Robin instead of Tim being so focused on him peaking as a teen... also, TimKon is almost always tied to fanon Tim which is...
Anyway, what are your thoughts on Dark Crisis YJ? I think it is s wild book but not a bad message on how the YJ girlies... they need to fucking let go of YJ.
I think everyone needs to read Superboy (2010).
theres nothing wrong w/ it in theory i just think tim's kind of an asshole sometimes w/o writers realising it and he really ends up bringing things down by accident. so agreed on the writing thing.
also part of my hatred for it and tim comes from just fanon stuff. i try to separate fanon from my enjoyment of canon ut its SOOO hard when its so inescapable.... so prevelant and bland... tim esp has that kind of stuff seep into the story where writers clearly favour him and want to make it clear by hoisting him over all his friends and damian and jason and stuff. so. it sucks. so yeah fanon tim is so bad my friend and i have a half-joke about tim doing adderall and cocaine and kickflipping over the sad puddle of tears that is fanon tim bc we think its funny how much fanon tim sucks.
agreed tho!!! tim needs to STOP being robin like right now please. ill even take Drake as stupid as that was. also let tim age if ur gonna keep aging up damian im begging you DC.
i have the three issues out rn in my bag as we speak but. i have not read them yet. oops. i have been meaning too but!! i got them bc there was two variant covers i rly wanted as well (since anita was on issue 1 and i miss her ): and then thad is on the bart cover for issue 3).
ill get back to you maybe on that but yeah.. i like yj i own several trades of it. its fun! but sometimes its like. guys it been almost 30 years.... let them grow. also bart, cassie, and kon all existed independant of tim and sometimes tim stans forget this i think. they have other friends!! i do love the four of 'em but sometimes it feels like people treat it like Tim and His Three Sidekicks.
agreed

There really is a creativity and taste crisis in skating rn, but I guess that was inevitable when they're putting so much emphasis on tech. There are very few programs I'm excited about this season, it's more so that I want to see certain skaters succeed. I don't know what happened, maybe the choreographers were cooped up at home and lost touch with what works for an audience?
It's an interesting question tbh. I think that for the past few season because of COVID too we've been getting a lot of Russian skating and that comes with a certain style of programs for better or worst. Last season we got mostly domestic GPs and Worlds but Russia had a full season and then some with some extra events. I think because a full season was basically missed so many kept programs or debuted programs they wanted to build for two season and then used in the Olympics season so it hurt a lot of the creativity process. I think the Tango RD was also pretty bad because we rarely got creative programs on the Tango, I think S/K and S/B had the two best Tangos that season in the senior level. Then the finnstep season happened and then mostly Canadanes had a killer RD. It's just really been a struggle.
I think for the most part the addition of the character step sequence has been hurting FDs because too much it's used to do a complete 180 in the FD mood and I don't get it at all.
In singles I rarely enjoy programs that are not Shoma/Jason/Kaori/Wakaba and at times Nathan too, Danny G choreography is atrocious and he only did one good program in his life (Kosto's Departure SP).
Pairs are even harder because to be able to do a really strong program you have to be a really strong team and there aren't many of those. So I mostly enjoy S/H and T/M with liking some of what MT/M and W/M did (ironically I loved the FS Eric did for them last season and I wish they kept it).
I guess it is what it is, will be interesting to see what the next quad will bring.

A Twitter account claiming to belong to a national “antifa” organization and pushing violent rhetoric related to ongoing protests has been linked to the white nationalist group Identity Evropa, according to a Twitter spokesperson. The spokesperson said the account violated the company’s platform manipulation and spam policy, specifically the creation of fake accounts. Twitter suspended the account after a tweet that incited violence. As protests were taking place in multiple states across the U.S. Sunday night, the newly created account, @ANTIFA_US, tweeted, “Tonight’s the night, Comrades,” with a brown raised fist emoji and “Tonight we say ‘F— The City’ and we move into the residential areas… the white hoods…. and we take what’s ours …” This isn’t the first time Twitter has taken action against fake accounts engaged in hateful conduct linked to Identity Evropa, according to the spokesperson. More from NBC News: The antifa movement — a network of loosely organized radical groups who use direct action to fight the far-right and fascism — has been targeted by President Donald Trump as the force behind some of the violence and property destruction seen at some protests, though little evidence has been provided for such claims. Other misinformation and misleading claims spread across Twitter on Sunday night and into Monday related to the protests. Two hashtags that trended worldwide on Twitter falsely claimed that there was a “cover-up” or a “blackout” of protests in Washington, D.C., overnight. Both appeared to insinuate that protesters have been silenced in some way, perhaps by a secret internet blackout. Twitter says it has removed the trend from its “trending topics” section because of “coordinated attempts to disrupt the public conversation” around the protests. Twitter said it suspended several hundred accounts and is investigating the viral spread of the hashtag, which it said was boosted by “hundreds of spammy accounts.” “We’re taking action proactively on any coordinated attempts to disrupt the public conversation around this issue,” a Twitter spokesperson said. The spokesperson said the company sometimes pulls down hashtags that violate the company’s rules, like platform manipulation. “We want trends to promote healthy discussions on Twitter. This means that at times, we may prevent certain content from trending. These include trends that violate the Twitter Rules,” the Twitter spokesperson said. , a nonprofit group monitoring worldwide internet access, found no indication of a mass-scale internet disruption in the Washington area overnight or in the last 48 hours. Journalists covering the protests also took to Twitter to disprove the hoax. “A lot of people are asking me about a possible #dcblackout. I’ve been out near the White House since 4 am and haven’t experienced any outage,”  Victoria Sanchez, a reporter for WJLA, the local ABC affiliate, adding that her colleagues had posted multiple updates throughout the night. Many accounts tweeting the message had few to no followers. The same messages were also posted on Reddit and 4chan late Sunday. The posts pushing the #DCBlackout hashtag peaked in popularity around 12:30 a.m. ET Monday. A second narrative boosted by bots and hacked accounts claimed that #DCBlackout is a misinformation campaign. The same message was tweeted verbatim by multiple accounts. “Yeah…… as someone seeing #dcblackout trending, who lives and works in the DC metro area, and who has friends telecommuting into DC rn….. This hashtag looks like misinformation,” read the tweet, which was posted hundreds of times. Some accounts had few to no followers, while other tweets were posted by users who claim to have been hacked. One verified Twitter user, Jason Elia, said his account was hacked to tweet the message. Elia lives in Oklahoma City and said he wouldn’t go to Washington “unless they build an In-N-Out there.” He said he has since changed his password. The goal of the hashtag seems to be to sow confusion and fear during a chaotic time and to push the #DCBlackout hashtag to the front page of Twitter, where all users would at least glance at the disinformation. Josh Russell, an independent bot researcher who identifies foreign and domestic hacking and trolling operations, said events like the weekend’s protests are ripe for this kind of platform manipulation. “Any large ‘online’ event is going to have these types of things happen. Every bad actor that sees the opportunity to create some panic is going to leverage the situation to do so. It’s nothing new,” Russell said. Off Twitter, viral text messages of screenshots of doctored tweets have circulated throughout the country. Some of the false text messages claim that extremist groups are plotting to move into residential areas this week. Bot researchers call this kind of disinformation distribution “hidden viral” text messages, which go undetected on mainstream platforms like Facebook and Twitter and can spread like wildfire without moderation. Similar “hidden viral” text messages went viral at the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., with messages claiming that the institution of martial law was imminent, vaguely citing friends or co-workers. American officials later claimed that the texts were boosted by Chinese disinformation agents to spread panic. Russell said hostile foreign governments frequently “look at opportunities to make it seem as though there is an infrastructure failure” during times of crisis. “This is a common thing for foreign disinformation agents,” Russell said. “They would be trying to get people to believe that things are much worse on the ground than they are.” https://ift.tt/3gMBcYM The post White nationalist group posing as antifa called for violence on Twitter appeared first on Sansaar Times.

Faith and friendship as a remedy to the opioid crisis
Katelyn Beaty, Religion News Service, August 30, 2018
BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. (RNS)--In the worship center of a nondenominational church in Blountville, Tenn., Jason Greer told a room of about 450 that he wasn’t used to public speaking. But his rhetorical skills hardly mattered: His story--of years of drug abuse, incarceration and, now, the long road to recovery--powerfully put a human face on the opioid addiction crisis.
“Every day is a blessing to wake up because I’ve been through a lot,” said Greer.
Greer was speaking in May at the inaugural Holy Friendship Summit, led by several Duke University theologians, medical care professionals and church leaders. His testimony was a bright spot at the two-day conference, which was aimed at facing a dark reality: At least 70,000 Americans died of drug overdoses in 2017. Of those, about 49,000 were opioid-related, according to CDC numbers.
In northeast Tennessee, the rate of neonatal abstinence syndrome--a set of problems infants face when withdrawing from drugs they were exposed to before birth--is five times the national rate. And 80 percent of crimes in Tennessee involve drugs.
The summit was an attempt to engage Christians in “healing the heart of Southern Appalachia.” That goal might sound simplistic, but it was an example of how faith communities are responding to the crisis: offering a place where those struggling with addiction can be known, loved and embraced on the way to recovery.
Last fall, President Trump called the epidemic a public health emergency and promised that stronger enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border would stem the tide of illegal drugs entering the country. This month, Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to pursue lawsuits against large pharmaceutical companies.
But such measures primarily address the supply side of the crisis and overlook the demand side. In other words, why are so many people using painkillers?
The answer, said summit speakers, demands a more holistic understanding of the human person than the medical community typically offers. Plenary talks and breakout sessions underscored the emotional, social and psychological reasons for why people become addicted--and how relationship with God and others can restore and heal.
“The pain that people bring to doctors is often responded to by doctors with tools we have in our toolbox, which is narcotics,” said Farr Curlin, a Duke University physician who serves on the summit’s steering committee. “That is not restoring people to health. They aren’t getting better as a result.”
Greer’s story highlights how effective an interdisciplinary approach can be. In 2014, trying to get clear of the prison system once and for all, he sought help from a Day Reporting Center, an alternative to incarceration for high-risk offenders. Having found Christian faith while in jail, he also became connected to Christ-Reconciled Church, a small Southern Baptist congregation that has attracted others in recovery.
Many faith-based programs receive grants via the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to provide services. For faith communities to be effective, though, they have to overcome the stigma attached to addicts and the subtle condescension that can occur when “the healthy” help “the sick.”
“Those suffering with behavioral health conditions and addiction are much more than patients or clients,” said Holy Friendship organizers. “They are our sisters and brothers in Christ.”
As Raymond Barfield, a Duke University oncologist and speaker at the summit, told Religion News Service in May, “If you can get church leaders to begin to change the perception of these broken, fragile people who are in need of love and help and healing, it can have some significant impact.”
