' That cool girl '
Robin Arellano x reader
Summery: Robin thinks you are the most cool girl in school, but actually no one really knows why because you only teach him math
( reader is 13 like Robin)
Running out of ideas and im craving for the black phone fics.
Idk how schools work in usa so maybe things are going to be wrong
Tumblr media
You were in the cafeteria until your number one fan, Robin Arellano, sits with you
— " Hi y/n! What are you doing? "
— " I think im eating, Robin do you need something boy? "
— " Oh, haha no im good, just.. I want to know if we are going to study this weekend "
— " Of course we will, why, you wanted to go somewhere? "
That made him nervous, he wanted to go to the movies with you (and his uncle) but for him, you were so cool! Of course you wouldn't want to go with him, he is just a boy who figths with everyone
— " Um, no- i mean- if you want we could go to see a movie, any movie that you want is fine "
You smiled at him and rolled your eyes, for you, he was the cutest boy in school
— " Sure Robin, dont choose a movie that is too scary, you know i dont like those "
He felt like his heart is going to explode, but he tried to look cool like you
— " Um, haha, you aren't scared of a little horror movie aren't you? They aren't that scary "
— " Sure Robin, lets go after study okay? Love you "
He blushed at that, and you laughed and then left the table with him alone, to be honest you really liked him, so you wanted to act cool and that he thought that you were cool maked you the most happy girl.
The next day, you were walking in the hallways to your next class and you saw Robin with a tape in his hand, plus he was bleeding A LOT, so of course you wanted to know what happened.
— " Hey Robin, are you okay? You are bleeding a lot. "
— " Oh, i got in a figth with an asshole called Moose, i think you know him. "
— " Well duh, he is my brother's friend, why dont you go to the nurse office? "
— " If they know that i got in a figth again, they will suspend me, again. "
— " Okay, i need to go now, see you later boy. "
— " See ya "
You didn't care that Robin got into figths, actually you think it was pretty cool, maybe you are in the "I like bad boys" phase and "you wanted him to protect you" like in those romantic movies, where the protagonist is a nerdy girl and her love interest is a bad boy who figths everyone and they meet because he needs help with maths and then she realize that he isnt a bad boy and he has trauma that makes him act like that...
Actually you think your like is a movie at this time, so you hope that everything goes rigth like in those movies and you and Robin kiss in prom nigth and that shit.
But anyways, your most waited day has arrived, Robin was coming to your house to study, and then you two are going to the movies and see a scary movie, maybe this was your time to confess your love for him.
While you were daydreaming, you heard a knock on the door and your mother opened the door
— " Sweetie, Robin is here! "
— " Coming mom! "
Before going down stairs, you looked at the mirror to see if you were looking good, and.. You looked the same as always, good!
— " Hi Robin, lets go to my room! "
After the 2 hours of study passed, Robin, your mother and you where at the door
— " Mom, can we have a sleepover at Robin's house? "
— " If his mother knows i don't have a problem, just dont go to sleep too late, okay? "
— " Okay mom, bye! "
— " goodbye miss l/n "
— " Goodbye kids, have a good time! "
You and Robin went to his uncle's car and went to see the horror movie at the cinema, you guys had a good time, it was the first time that you were "alone" with Robin without having to study, and you loved it, he was grabing your hand, but you wanted to act cool, you failed and screamed half of the movie while Robin laughed at you, which made you laugh too.
When the movie was over and you guys arrived to Robin's house and go to his room, you thought it was a good time to confess your feelings, and then he spoke
— " Hey y/n. "
— " Yes? Whats wrong boy? "
— " I have something to tell you. "
It was what you are thinking? It has to be rigth?
— " um, sure Robin, you can tell me anything "
— " .. I like you y/n "
You felt your cheeks burning and your heart was about to explode
— " Its okay if you dont feel the same, i mean, im just a dumb boy who gets into figths 8 times a week and you.. Are the most cool girl in school "
— " Wait no! I like you Robin "
— " Really?! You arent joking rigth, you cant joke about this "
— " Of course im not joking Robin, i like you. "
Robin hugged you, and you hugged him as well.
I guess this is a good nigth, rigth?
— " I love you y/n "
— " I love you too Robin "

nail polish
there are things studying alone won't teach you. riddle finds that out himself after a gift from cater and a phone call from the prefect. (PLATONIC)
cross posted on ao3! link here
notes: riddle's mom is being all eeehh yk just kinda icky idk in here. yuu uses they/them but riddle assumes u as a guy (but yuu isnt genuinely confirmed to be so . just,,,,) and tons of gender expression confusion and internal conflict NONE OF ROSEHEARTS FAMILY'S BELIEFS BEFORE YUU PHONE CALL REPRESENT MY BELIEFS !!!!!
dedicated to @bucketofforks lets paint each others nails next time love <3
Tumblr media
1940 words
the first time he heard about nail polish was when he saw it on his mom.
it wasn't anything special. it was a simple, glossy black nail polish that perfectly complimented all her outfits. it caught the little boy's attention as he looked back on his own nails, noticing how his nails looked different than his mom's.
he wondered if there was any harm in asking. it was a rare 5 minute break time, so there shouldn't be any harm in asking, right?
"mama," he began, approaching his mother. he grabbed her hand, looking at the color of her nails. "why are your nails black?" he asked, looking up at his mom. she chuckled at him. "it's because mama put nail polish on."
nail polish?
"can i put nail polish on myself too?" he asked, wondering if there was any other color he could put on his nails. he never understood what they were, but surely there's far more colorful options he can put on his nails, right? there has to be—
"preposterous! absolutely not! this is only for women," she retracted her hand from the hold of the younger boy's hands, crossing her arms. "and you're a boy. no boy should put nail polish on themselves!" her eyebrows furrowed as she put her palm on her forehead. "5 minutes have been over. study your book as much as possible until page 31, mama will be back."
riddle, at the time, didn't know why she got so mad at the question. as he was on the verge of tears, he went back to the dining table and opened his biology book. what did he do wrong? why is mama upset?
maybe it's for a good reason?
from that day forward, his mom never wore that same polish in front of him.
riddle's birthday came quicker than expected.
august, a warm month. students were walking left and right with ice packs, popsicles, ice cream, and even casting small cooling spells to cool themselves down. as housewarden, it was riddle's duty to not bother with the heat— he casted a cooling spell and walked around the dorm in the same old thick uniform.
quick steps were heard behind him. he stopped in his tracks and quickly turned his head to see a familiar, orange-haired, 3rd year briskly walk towards him. "you're lucky that doesn't count as running, cater." he crossed his arms as the third year slowed down, panting while bending down, bowing.
cater looked up, fixing his composure. "haha- oh, right! riddle! happy birthday!" he handed riddle the red pouch in his right hand as the housewarden held and took it. "if you plan to use them, make sure to send me a picture, kay?"
"ah, thank y— don't run in the halls!" riddle shouted, but cater was already gone.
he sat down on the chair by his desk, in his room. the time was nearing 8pm, and it was a couple of minutes after his party. the table and couch in his room were filled with presents— some were still wrapped by request... he'll open them later— but what really intrigued him was the pouch cater gave him.
it made a clacking sound when moved around or pressed on, and there also seemed to be a plastic bottle inside. he unzipped the red pouch from above and carefully placed the items on his desk.
"acetone... cotton? stamps? ...
...nail polish?"
carefully, he observed the oddly-shaped container. the miniature glass bottle had a white stick pointing up, and its glass was shaped in a rounded trapezoid. there were three colors of it— white, black, and a vibrant red that matched his hair color.
there was also a note inside the pouch. carefully, he placed the nail polish upright, beside the "acetone," and grabbed the note.
...
"heya riddle, happy birthday! i got these for you, tell me if you like it, kay? here's how to use them!"
instructions on how to use?
riddle read the note carefully, looking at the bottles and lifting them up. "apply nail polish layer by layer thinly," he held up a bottle, looking at its ever side. he twisted the white stick, before pausing.
"nail polish is only for women."
...mama said that, right? so why did cater gift him this when he was clearly a guy? is he not allowed— or rather, not supposed to wear nail polish?
makeup, hairstyles, and nail art. riddle hadn't had the chance to choose his own, as his mom controlled each aspect of it. she styled her little boy's hair the same way every day, applied the same products as he aged (not very visibly from the products though,) and forbade him from cosmetics and makeup as they were "only for girls." only during the entrance ceremony did his mom hesitantly put eyeshadow and brown, winged liquid eyeliner on him.
he had always stuck to the ideal that cosmetics were only for women, and under certain circumstances can he only wear makeup.
yet as he went to nrc, tons of his mothers ideals were conflicted as he saw the students of pomefiore. hell, not just pomefiore— everyone, even! most especially vil. why does he, and many others, wear those his mother had forbidden him as it didn't fit his "gender"?
he never had the time to think about those things after his friends had been banned from his home. he had never had time to think about his own "gender identity" either— if his mom called him a boy, he says he's a boy. he pushed away all the thoughts questioning himself if he truly felt that way too. he barely had time to think about himself. he had never had the time to contemplate on anything— he firmly believed that questioning the rules was a waste of time. he had to wear a specific style of makeup every day as dorm head? alright. that's fine. it is as the queen has said.
but why?
he understands it's for his own good. cosmetics would only slow down his progress.
yet...
vil spends hours on his own beauty. his nails are painted an equal, deep shade of purple, while his makeup is complex yet absolutely perfect. no matter how long his routine is, he makes an effort to come early and do things to perfection.
riddle works to perfection.
so why? cosmetics isn't affecting anyone in pomefiore. cosmetics aren't affecting anyone from his observations.
why?
why can't he wear nail polish?
...
picking up his phone, he dials a number.
"prefect, i'd like your opinion on something."
the prefect was not from this world.
they weren't very clear on their gender identity too. all they specified was "i'm not from this world," but if riddle had to made a guess, he would've assumed they were a guy. nrc is an all-boys school, after all.
the prefect didn't seem to mind whatever they were called as— she, he, they, it... it always made riddle wonder about the world they lived in before coming here. was it normal to be comfortable being called or being assumed a specific gender there?
the prefect enjoyed many things too. after the events of what happened with idia, the prefect spent time with vil quite often. sometimes, they'd walk out with colored nails that were darker (or lighter) than their skin tone, and it matched them perfectly— rather, it felt like it didnt even look painted at all. it intrigued him quite a bit— maybe he could do it too?
ah, but it feels weird to him as a guy to buy nail polish.
"haha, riddle, your mom was wrong on a lot of things. i guess i was right when i guessed she was also pretty conservative. unfortunately for the both of us, there are people like that in my world too."
conservative?
"it's as what vil said— beauty has no gender. it's a form of power— and not a sign of "weakness" of your masculinity, or however you want to present." the prefect replied from the other side of the phone. riddle stayed silent, looking over to the set of nail polish on his desk.
"nail polish won't affect your gender identity. it's okay— and if you need help with applying it, call me again, okay?"
riddle fell silent. he sighed, and smiled to himself. "thank you, prefect." he hung up the call and set it aside. he grabbed the bottle of red polish, shaking it, and twisting it open as the instructions said. he was hesitant— and god that smell was awful— but he truly wanted to try this out.
"start from the center," he grabbed the brush and dragged it on his nails, painting from the end to the tip of his nails. "and curve on both sides..."
a little bit of polish fell on his skin.
riddle quickly closed the bottle as he looked through the instructions, checking the part with the words "removal" underlined. "grab a cotton ball and put a bit of acetone..." he grabbed the bottle and cotton, pulled out some cotton and applied acetone to it, "and rub on the nail you wish to remove. if it fell on your skin, rub it with a cotton bud with acetone instead."
...
slowly but surely, he painted his left hand's nails completely.
the vibrant red stood out from his pale hands, making it the complete center of attention. specks of the polish fell on the corners— he quickly rubbed them out— yet all in all, it was good for his first time.
he waited for it to dry before grabbing the bottle with what was called a "top coat" of polish, and followed the same steps on the paper.
it felt... new.
the whole thing was new to him— despite being a 2nd year, he had no clue what and how to do something like this. it was only thanks to cater for the instructions and the prefect for...
...
the prefect... showed him a new perspective that day.
vil too maybe. he told the prefect that, and that led to the prefect telling him too.
he looked at the framed picture of the queen by his nightstand. her nails were painted a beautiful red— some nails had patterns and symbols on them. he turned to the picture of him and his mother— her mother wore a deep, shiny black that made a striking contrast to her skin tone. he never saw her wear the color again after he asked... was it his fault?
"mama," he mumbled.
...
he looked away from the frame and onto his nails once more.
he snapped a picture of the nails and sent it to cater. "is this good?" he texted, and cater's status quickly turned online— and he's already typing...
"omg?!
thats perfect riddle
esp for your first try"
"of course, i make sure everything i do is perfect."
he turned off his phone again and grabbed the same red polish, carefully starting on his right this time. slowly, carefully, and with precision.
maybe one day he'll add some details like the queen. maybe he'd ask the prefect to do them for him next time. what matters now is that he's truly enjoying what he's doing.
all the questions he wishes to ask can be asked later to the prefect or cater. it'll take a while as well to adjust to information conflicting with what he has known for a while, but for now, he needs to let his nails dry a bit.
the first time riddle had painted his nails was on his birthday.
"..."
"thank you, cater. thank you, prefect."
and it won't be the last.

barista!jaemin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this isnt that good but i wanted to write for barista jaemin because OH MY GOD
nct masterlist
Tumblr media
‘Hi, what can I get you today?’
Your brain short-circuits when you make eye contact with Jaemin for the first time.
You always came to this cafe, considering it was only around the corner from your lecture hall, but you definitely had not seen him before. You would remember his face.
Suddenly the order that you would repeat nearly everyday just ceased to exist in your head.
Jeno suddenly leans over the counter, smirking ‘cat got your tongue? your usual I take it?’
‘Sorry. I’m just tired,’ you quickly make an excuse as Jeno, your normal barista shoots you a knowing look, ‘I stayed up half the night studying.’
‘Y/N, this is Jaemin, our new barista, and unofficial baker. I’m helping training him at the moment. Jaemin, this is Y/N, a regular and someone who tips well, so be nice to them.’
‘Yes Sir,’ Jaemin jokingly salutes Jeno, before Jeno disappears into the back to make your drink.
You’re not sure what to say when you’re left alone with Jaemin, but he immediately begins talking with you.
‘How long have you been coming here?’ He asks, tapping away on the register’s screen to ring you up.
‘Uh, since I started taking classes around the corner, so maybe 6 months now?’
‘Ah, so you go to university here. Me too, what course are you on?’
‘I do {subject},’ you smile, now having the perfect chance to take in his beauty without being weird about it.
‘I’m taking a culinary course,’ he nods, ‘I really want to open my own cafe or bakery one day.’
Your heart thumps. The most beautiful boy is in front of you, and his dream is so adorably wholesome.
‘That’s so cool…I’m still a bit lost myself,’ you purse your lips, staring at the white cake covered in swirling pink icing and strawberries on the counter. You’d never seen this elaborate of a cake before, so you imagine it must be the work of Jaemin.
‘Did you make that?’ You point to it, and he grins.
‘Yeah, I made it this morning.’ He smiles so fondly towards the cake, almost like it was his baby.
‘How much is it to get a slice? It looks so good.’
‘On the house,’ Jaemin shrugs, turning around to grab a knife to cut a piece for you.
‘W-are you sure? I don’t mind paying-‘
‘Hard working pretty girls deserve free cake,’ he grins cheekily, and you fight back the blush that crawls up your neck and fills up your face.
Where is Jeno?
You’re snapped out of your weird trance when he places the plate down with a clunk.
’Thank you very much,’ you shyly take the cake, mouth almost watering at how good it looks, cream, jam and sliced strawberries in  a row in the middle, ‘I owe you one.’
‘It’s nothing, don’t worry about it.’
Tumblr media
Over the coming days, you see a cycle of different cakes sit inside of the glass display case. On Tuesday its a rainbow cake, on Wednesday its a chocolate cake, and on Thursday, it is a completely pink cake covered with red and white marzipan hearts.
‘Where do you find the time to make these?’ You ask as Jaemin prepares your order, genuinely curious as to how on earth this college student had managed such a feat.
‘I wake up quite early,’ he scratches the back of his neck sheepishly, cheeks turning a light shade of pink at your words.
‘You’re so creative. I don’t know how you think of something different to do everyday.’
‘Well, I tend to try and just express my thoughts and feelings.’
Your eyes flick back down to the cake in the display case, the one looking fit for valentines day, despite the fact it was mid April.
‘And what are you feeling today?’
Jaemin smirks, turning the steamed milk into your drink into the standard latte art.
‘I don’t know,’ he sets down your drink, which is on a small tea plate, ‘depends how you answer this.’
Your heart rate speeds up dramatically. A heart was drawn out on the surface of your drink, a pale pink branded napkin under your mug with the words ‘go on a date with me?’ and a phone number scrawled out in black pen.
You’re speechless for a moment, unsure of whether or not this gorgeous man was really asking you on a date. Out of the corner of your eye, you can see his sweater paws from his huge white sweatshirt, making your heart warm even more.
‘I- I’d love to go out with you, Jaemin.’
His once anxious expression morphs into a huge smile, his tense shoulders dropping.
‘Text me,’ he grins cheekily.
‘I most definitely will.’

I Just can’t Anymore Bakugou Katsuki x Black!Reader x Izuku
Summary: You couldn’t handle Bakugou’s yelling anymore
Type: Angst + Fluff + Slight Sexual Content
⚠️CURRENTLY BEING EDITED ⚠️
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To say things with your boyfriend was an absolute dream, was an understatement. He wasn’t the nicest guy or the most caring, but in private he tried his best to be. Bakugou Katsuki was his name. Labeled as the loudest, rudest, and arrogant guy in Class 1-A. Originally, you hated his guts a lot. Especially when he would insult your performance in class. You honestly never even imagined yourself dating a guy like him, but here you were.
Now you don’t exactly regret being in a relationship with Katsuki. He can genuinely be a good guy. Whether it be paying for something for you at the mall or helping you study for upcoming tests. Or even just regular dates. The dude wasn’t that bad. Until later in your relationship it started to plummet.
It was only after a few months of dating, you noticed Katsuki acting a little stranger. In the beginning on your relationship, Katsuki did yell at you. Though it was more in a teasing way rather than in a rude way. Though the longer you were together his yelling would get worse. You genuinely couldn’t tell if he was joking anymore.
It got to the point where he would start ignoring at school and call off dates constantly. It was starting to frustrate you. Though you chose to leave it alone for a little and give the guy some space. Hoping things would get better.
They didn’t.
He still ignored you during the day and called off the dates. It started to really hurt now. You didn’t know if he wanted to still be in a relationship. The amount of nights you cried yourself to sleep and the state you were in every morning, was noticeable to many of your classmates. Most of them hoping Katsuki would do something and help, only for their hope to be crushed. Like yours.
Just like any other day, your hope was crushed even more. This time though, your hope has completely shattered.
As you entered the classroom, most of your classmates were there. Only missing not present. One of those students who were present was your bitter and loud boyfriend sitting at his desk, feet kicked up on top as usual. Smiling, you make your way over to his desk and give Katsuki a quick kiss on the cheek. He swiftly turned his head towards you with a scowl. As it was no secret that you were in a relationship with Katsuki, public affection was a big no no in his book. You were treated as if you were a stranger.
It sucked…
“The fuck are you doing?” He asks irked by the sudden kiss.
“I can’t give a kiss to my boyfriend?” Clinging to his arm trying to be cute. That was your first mistake. Instead of giving affection in return like he would do in private, he pushed you roughly off of him. Feeling a sharp pain in your back, you fell back onto the floor against the desk. You looked up at him in shock. He has never done that before.
Ever.
The worst part was that he didn't even help you up. He just looked at you before turning his attention to the front looking at nothing. Instead, Deku came over and gave you a hand. As thankful as you were, you wished Katsuki helped you instead. As he was your boyfriend.
Deku quickly asked to make sure you were alright making you slightly blush. Izuku was always so helpful to everyone. Especially you. He had always had a big crush on you. Everyone knew... except for you of course.
You quickly thank the boy before hearing a quick scoff next to you.
“The hell? Why are you touching my girlfriend you damn nerd?”
“I-I was just h-helping her up K-kacchan…. something you should have done…”
“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!” Katsuki grabbed Deku’s uniform collar and began screaming in his face. In a panic, you quickly tried to peel Katsuki off of Deku before he does anything worse. That was your second mistake. Not only were you feeling pain in your back, you felt a sharp pain on your cheek. Holding it you look at your boyfriend in shock.
“Don’t touch me you bitch.” Your eyes widened at the derogatory name towards you. “God why do you have to cling to me like a little kid? Its fucking annoying. Not to mention letting this shitty nerd help you up. You are useless if you can’t get up on your own.” He says with annoyance. “Jeez are you actually crying, you need to man up Y/N,” the continuous bashing only dampened your mood even more. Hands by your side start ball up into tight fists as you look at the boy with such hatred.
Dating a guy who's the biggest asshole at school. But he isn't always like that. When alone with you, he can be pretty soft. Even secretly makes you snacks. You really did love him, but being yelled at in front of everyone everyday is not something you love. So here you were, tears pricked in your eyes while your body shaked tremendously. Even embarrassed by the amount of eyes on you and your boyfriend.
And before you knew it, you snapped.
“How about you stop yelling all the fucking time huh? You act as if you are some God when you're not Katsuki. You're a student at UA training to be a hero,” you respond angrily. Not caring that he looked at you with shocked eyes as well as other students. You have had it. “Quite frankly, I don’t see you as a hero at all. You would be more fit for a villain.” After the last words left your mouth you immediately ran out of the classroom with tears in your eyes.
Landing on the steps to the entrance of UA, you sit and cry to yourself wondering why you started to date such an asshole. What happened between then and now? He was a lot sweeter earlier in your relationship, what changed? These thoughts continuously raced through your mind for what felt like hours. After crying for a little longer, you felt yourself calm down and decided to just skip school and head back to the dorms.
You opted to stay in your room until you felt better. Laying in your bed feels like you have entered a threshold of tranquility. You sadly, did not fall asleep as fast as you hope. Negative thoughts continue to plague your mind as you lay there hopeless of ever rekindling your relationship. Soon you felt your eyes close and fell into a dreamless slumber.
The sound of continuous knocks on your dorm door woke you up. Whoever was knocking really needed to talk to you. Immediately, you shot up. In hopes that it was Katsuki ready to apologize. Quickly you open the door, and to your disappointment but also……. happiness? Standing there was Izuku Midoriya, fumbling with his hands and green eyes averted from yours.
“H-hey Y/N…. you never c-came back to c-class…,” he stutters out. Looking down your negative thoughts from before came back, souring your mood. Noting your expression, Izuku impulsively grabs your shoulders asking if your okay.
“No, I’m not… can you please stay with me?” After receiving a nod in response, you grab Izuku’s hand and pulled him to your room.
“Hey… Y/N don't listen to kacchan… you are not useless at all. You are an amazing girl that I am so glad we are friends,” Izuku says warmly. Feeling your heart flutter a bit, tears began to fall from your eyes. Immediately panic set into Izuku. He started flailing his arms wondering whats wrong before feeling arms wrap around him. You were hugging him. You. Were. Hugging. HIM!!!
“Thank you Izuku, that means a lot to me.” Soon, he wrapped his arm around you to reciprocate the hug. The hug had such a lovely warm feeling to it. It reminded you of the love you felt with Katsuki. But the more you thought about it, the less it bothered you. Letting go, you both look into each other's eyes for a second.
Were his eyes also so beautiful. That thought rang through your head before you felt your face heat up in embarrassment.
After a little more cuddling with Izuku, he unfortunately had to leave to do homework. “Thank you again Izuku, you are a great…… friend,” you say with a slightly fake smile. His smile fell but was quickly regained.
“Mmm no problem Y/N… I'm glad I could help.”
After he leaves, you immediately head over to your bed to pick up your phone. Looking through your contacts, you find the one person you definitely need to talk to.
You hit the call button and wait for him to answer. After a few rings you hear a gruff what be uttered.
Sighing you respond coldly, “I’m coming to your dorm. We need to talk, now.” Not bothering to hear a reponse, you end the call and head over to his room.
Knocking on his door a few times, you waited for him to open up. Instead of the door opening, you met with silence. Annoyed, you knock again hoping he would open up. Again no avail. Your knocking became more furious and consistent, similar to Izuku’s knock but alot more harder. Soon you heard a growl and loud footsteps approaching the door. Slammed open in your face you see your boyfriend looking at you with an empurpled look.
“Jesus fuck, you’d think you would be smar….. never mind come in.” Katsuki says not looking you in the eye before moving to the side to let you in. You enter quickly and sit at his desk, while he sits on his bed.
“I came here to talk about this mornin-“
“Why the fuck did you not come back to class?” Pissed you looked at him with an irritated look.
“Because I felt I don’t know… sad? Sorry I’m sensitive?” Sighing, you close your eyes for a second before opening to look at Katsuki. Jesus, he's already looking at you. “Look I apologize for what I said earlier this morning. It was uncalled for and I hope you can forgive me.”
“Yeah i forgive you….. I’m also sorry I shouldn’t have treated you like that. I was pissed off that morning and you clinging to me didn't help.” Looking down you bite your lip nodding.
Well here goes nothing…..
“Katsuki we need to break up…” As the last word left your mouth, he immediately stood up and grabbed your wrists in his hands with such displeasure.
“Dammit Y/N! I apologized isnt that enough. You don’t need to break up with me over a bad morning.”
“Katsuki its not just this morning. You always treated me like a stranger out in public and even called me useless more than once since we’ve dated. I really did like you Katsuki but now this was the last straw.”
Staring at you in disbelief, Katsuki let go of your wrists and turned away from you. “Look Katsuki we can still be frien-“
“S-SHUT UP! S-SHUT THE F-FUCK UP!” His voice cracked significantly with small whimpers following suit.
Is he crying? Slowly, you walked around to see his handsome face to see tears streaming down it. Slowly you wrap your arms around him in a way to comfort him. Thankfully it worked. But you didn't feel the loving you used to feel when you hugged him. That feeling was lost more than a week ago.
That’s right. You lost that fluttery feeling for him awhile ago. The more he yelled and called you useless, the smaller that feeling was till it disappeared. “I’m sorry,” he says weakly. You nod into his shoulder as a way to say it was okay.
You two finally break apart and look at each other for a little while. His eyes were still a pretty crimson red, but they weren’t as pretty as Izuku’s pretty green eyes.
Your eyes widened. Why were you thinking about Izuku? Flushed you quickly leave your exs to head to Izuku’s dorm. Damn… it already feels so weird to call him your ex.
Knocking on his door a few times you waited patiently for him to answer. Barely a few seconds had passed before he quickly opened the door to see you eyes bright with excitement.
“H-hey Y/N! What’s up? Do you need somethi-mmph!”
You grab the collar of his shirt and pull him to kiss him. Your smooth plump lips against his chapped but slightly smoothed lips moved in sync with each other.
Slowly you both walk backwards until he is laying on his bed with you on top of him straddling his waist.
“I like you Izu. I haven’t even realized it till now.”. Staring up at you with wide eyes, Izuku quickly pulled you by the neck with his arms to kiss him again.
“I like you too Y/N…. I’ve always had. I was always jealous and pissed by how Kacchan had you but also how he treated you. You needed to be treated like a Queen.” Smiling at him you slowly lean down and kiss his neck, emitting a small moan to go past his lips.
Here you both were… Naked in Izuku’s bed.
“I will never treat you the way Kacchan did Y/N,” Izuku says while nuzzling your neck.
“I know Izu, I believe you. Can I please stay here tonight and cuddle?” Giggling, he nods and holds you close to him.
The next day everyone was shocked by the sight of you and Izuku holding hands and close to each other. Of course, Katsuki was pissed, but he knew Izuku would treat you better than he could. As for Ochako, she was also jealous, but if Izuku was happy she was happy.
“Thank you Izuku…” He looked at you slightly confused.
“For what?”
“For helping me realize that I’m not useless.”
urgent romance intervention | kim seungmin
Tumblr media
genre: slight angst, fluff, humor
warnings: none!
prompt: everyone thinks we’re already dating, but we’re just best friends--oh wait--
word count: ~3.2k
a/n: first of all, im so sorry for literally dropping off the face of the earth after opening requests. i’ve been in a deep writing slump and i just managed to somewhat pull myself out of it with this fic. >.< to the lovely anon who sent this, im so so sorry if this isnt as good as you wanted it! i’ve just been having a very hard time writing. i hope this isn’t too far off from what you expected! as always, im so so grateful to everyone who has supported this blog, it means so much to me! love you all! <3
“We are not dating!”
This was absolutely ridiculous. Of all the crazy things you had imagined yourself doing once you got to college, you never thought you'd be having to deny dating allegations (from some pretty close friends, no less). What made this situation even more bizarre, was the fact that the topic of these allegations, your supposed “boyfriend,” was none other than your best friend, Kim Seungmin.
“There's no need to be so private, Y/N. We aren't prudes here,” Jisung looked far too smug sitting across from you as you worked on your project together at a random campus cafe with your other group member, Minho.
You couldn't help but scoff at his words, writing in your notebook with a little more ferocity than usual. A little was an understatement, actually; your pencil was practically cutting into three pages at this point, “I'm not being private, I'm being honest. I'm not dating Seungmin.”
“Are you sure?” Jisung continued to press for details, leaning forward with wide eyes.
“I think I'd be aware if I was dating my best friend,” you rolled your eyes, taking another big bite of your croissant, holding it with your left hand as you continued to take notes with your right.
Minho coughed and muttered the words similar to, “You'd be surprised,” under his breath, but you were too sick of this conversation to care.
You had a total of five minutes of pleasant peace and quiet when Jisung spoke up once more, “I think you two are cute, for what it’s worth,” he said, nibbling at his cheesecake.
“I very much appreciate it, but I’d appreciate it much more if you actually worked on our project,” you smiled pleasantly, gripping your mechanical pencil so hard you were sure it would snap. Jisung huffed, blowing the hair out of his face when your phone buzzed on the table.
“Oh, it’s your boyfriend,” Minho interjected with a smug smile.
You scowled. You definitely didn’t get enough sleep to be in the mood to deal with this, “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you rolled your eyes, grabbing your phone.
“Are you sure? I bet you it’s him.”
“Don’t be ridiculous. He’s in class right now, and you know Seungmin hates to text--” your voice died right in your throat as you stared at the notification. What the hell was going on? Since when did Seungmin ever text anyone during his classes? But phones don’t lie, and the alert was definitely about the two unread messages from your best friend.
seungmo
wanna get dinner tonight?
i got a reservation at the hotel restaurant you like
me
how in the world did you get that?! i try to get it for special occasions and i always have to book like three months in advance
seungmo
just some connections
wanna go?
me
hell yeah. see ya soon :)
“So, who’s the lucky texter?” Jisung put his elbows on the table, smiling at you with a devious smirk.
You gave both him and Minho a wary glare as you slipped your phone back into your bag, flipping around your textbook again and continuing to work on the project as you muttered, “Seungmin.”
“Ah, see? I knew he cared about you more than school,” Minho sighed dreamily, which honestly made you want to hurl, “That’s true love, isn’t it, Sungie?”
Jisung nodded fervently and you finally snapped, throwing your pen down, “Why the fuck does everyone think we’re dating?! We’re not!”
“Oh yeah? So what did he text you about?” Jisung asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
You pursed your lips, snapping once more, “Just about--” you faltered slightly, processing Seungmin’s messages as your expression morphed from indignant to almost confused.
“About what, Y/N?” Jisung tried again, a smile already quirking his lips upward as he studied your expression. Damn him. Damn Minho. Damn this whole fucking thing.
“About going out for dinner,” you answered under your breath, resting your chin on your arms as you muttered defensively, “It’s not even that big of a deal. We eat dinner together all the time.”
Minho snorted, “Of course. I bet he even said he made reservations at some fancy ass restaurant,” When the only answer to his accusation was silence, he couldn’t help but scoff, “For someone as bright as you, you’re pretty oblivious about flirting, aren’t you?”
“Watch it,” There was an undertone of a growl as you bared your teeth at him, “I’m the only reason you’re all getting A’s on this project. Don’t test me.”
Jisung shrugged, “If it means finally getting you laid, I’m willing to take an L,” he said simply, twirling his pen as your cheeks grew flush, and with an angry huff, taking your notebook and smacking his arm with it.
“My sexual life is none of your business,” you snapped, steam practically shooting out of your head as you glared at the two boys. How you three ended up being friends was always going to be something you’d never understand.
“It was none of our business because there was nothing to talk about. Things are different now, sweetie,” Minho snickered, giggling with Jisung like a pair of gossipy school girls as he whispered to you , “Trust me, I got this information first hand. Did you know Seungmin actually has a monster--”
“That’s it. You’re doing this project on your own.”
“W-wait--Y/N!”
.
“Of course you can skip overtime today! It’s not like you’re ever obligated to stay,” your boss at the local bookstore said happily as you hesitantly asked her if it would be alright if you didn’t close up for the day.
Still, despite her reassurances, you bit your lip, “A-are you sure? I could tell my friend to just go with someone else,” you trailed off just as the woman took your hands in hers, shaking her head fervently.
“No, no, no, don’t do that. Of course, you can leave at six. Hell, I wouldn’t even mind if you left at five since you already do so much for me,” she chuckled, smiling at you, “Where are you going? Party? Club?”
“No,” you said with a sheepish smile to compliment her wolfish grin. You both knew that alcohol was definitely not your thing “Just a fancy dinner at a fancy place, apparently.”
"Oh! With a boyfriend?" She asked as the two of you walk around sorting the newly arrived books into different categories.
Your face burned with embarrassment, "No, it's just Seungmin," you muttered in response, carrying a stack of books over to a large pile of nonfiction novels.
"So, a boyfriend," she said simply, not even bothering to look at you.
Unlike with Minho and Jisung, you couldn't blow up at her or snap. Not just because she was your boss, but because Mrs. Kim was probably the sweetest woman alive, and you could never bear saying anything remotely rude towards her.
"Seungmin isn't my boyfriend, Mrs. Kim," you replied politely as you checked a book for rips or printing errors before putting it into the newly growing pile.
"He's not? But he's always looking after you, dear!" Mrs. Kim looked almost offended by your denial, which was exactly what you were trying to avoid.
You shuffled uncomfortably,  "Well, we've been best friends for years, and his mom would kill him if he didn't take care of me,” you quickly fumbled for an excuse and smiled like you were being forced to take a yearbook photo or pose with the sun hitting your eyes.
"I've never seen a best friend spend his whole paycheck getting their friend a limited edition of a book series they were dying to get," Mrs. Kim pointed out rather dryly. Where was this sass coming from? Was this really the same woman that fed you homemade pastries on your first day of work? It certainly didn't feel like it.
"He only bought it because I was practically nagging him for months,” your excuses became more relaxed as you let them spill off your lips more. After all, they've lived in your head for the last seven years. It was just like dusting off an old notebook.
"Oh, this is ridiculous," Mrs. Kim threw her hands up in utter exasperation as she barked, "Hyunjin!"
The poor boy almost dropped the pile of books he was carrying as his head whipped up to look at Mrs. Kim with a panicked expression. He never really got over the trauma of spilling tea all over Mrs. Kim's favorite book even though she forgave him after a day of sulking.
"Yes?" he squeaked, his eyes wide as he was probably preparing himself to die at the hands of your boss. It would be almost funny how afraid Hyunjin was of a sixty year old woman if you weren't just as terrified of her when she barked your name.
"Who's Y/N dating?" she asked.
Hyunjin's panicked expression all but vanished as he realized that he wasn't the one in trouble, and he answered matter-of-factly as he glanced over at you, "Seungmin. Why?"
You sputtered in indignation. First Jisung, then Minho, and now Hyunjin, too?
"We're not dating!" You exclaimed for what was probably the twentieth time in the last two hours alone.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, "Please, you're not fooling anybody here."
You gawked at Hyunjin, unsure whether you wanted to sock him in the face or rat him out to Changbin for replacing the rapper's shampoo with pink dye, "What in the world gave you the idea that we're together?"
"Y/N, you two literally hold hands unironically," Hyunjin pointed out.
"Friends do that all the time!"
"He ditches us in an instant whenever you call him to hang out."
"That's because you guys see each other every day, and I only get to see him on the weekends."
"He was literally draped around you during movie night last weekend."
"Maybe he's just touchy."
Hyunjin glanced at you with a skeptical eyebrow, immediately calling out your bullshit, "You didn't seriously call Kim Seungmin a touchy person, did you?"
You looked away scowling, because Hyunjin always had an uncanny knack for seeing through people's masks. Especially with you;  you knew he always suspected your hidden feelings for your best friend, even when the rest of his friends were happily oblivious.
Mrs. Kim raised a disbelieving eyebrow, "Are you so against the idea of dating him? Because let me tell you, as a girl that hooked up with boys left and right during my prime time-"
"Oh my god, Mrs. Kim, I really didn't need to hear that," you groaned in mortification, covering your flushed face with a book.
"He's one of the good ones," Mrs. Kim finished before glancing at you with a bemused smile, "If it's not because you don't want him, then what's the problem, dear?"
You felt cornered. It wasn't fair. Hyunjin and Mrs. Kim were looking at you like they knew everything when they didn't. They didn’t know how much you’ve pined over this man, how much carefully crafted effort and time you’ve spent trying desperately to get over him.
"I don't want to think that I'm special and then have to wake up to the cruel realization that I'm not," you said flatly,  although from the shift in Hyunjin's expression, he could hear the pained inflection hidden in your voice.
He opened his mouth to say something probably reassuring when Mrs. Kim interrupted, “So it's fear. What are you afraid is going to happen?”
This was definitely the wrong time to be having a conversation like this, during working hours when you were supposed to probably be helping customers. But there was no one in the store and no one outside about to come in either, so you couldn't help but be a little revealing.
“We don't go to the same school anymore,” you explained uncomfortably, “If he hasn't already, he'll probably meet someone kinder, gentler, softer than I could ever be. I don't even have the advantage of time on my side now.”
“Okay, first off,” Hyunjin interrupted, glancing at Mrs. Kim and then back at you, “Seungmin has never looked at anyone the way he looks at you. He's totally hung up on you, just like he was back in high school."
"You don't know that," you muttered, fumbling with your fingers.
Hyunjin rolled his eyes, "Don't tell me what I know and don't know. I literally see him checking his messages for your replies at least twice every ten minutes."
“Stop it,” you snapped, looking at him, eyes blazing, “Stop making this sound obvious. You don’t have any right to act like a fucking love expert when all everyone does is fawn over you--”
“Okay, both of you need to cool off. We’re still in a bookstore here,” Mrs. Kim glared at Hyunjin who immediately lost his high horse attitude and ducked away to keep working.
"Darling," Mrs. Kim took your hands in hers, the anger on her face softening into an expression akin to sympathy, "I don't know what you've gone through to think that you're not worthy, but take it from the words of an old woman. If a boy is waiting for you to get off of work with a bouquet of flowers in his hand, chances are that he thinks of you as more than a friend."
You blinked at her in confusion before following her line of sight, and your heart did a weird backflip as you saw none other than Kim Seungmin, standing outside of the bookstore with a sheepish smile and bouquet of roses in his hands.
.
This was definitely the strangest day of your life, you thought as you sat directly across from Seungmin, absently admiring the rose petals. It was one thing for Seungmin to take you out for dinner (he always liked spending his big fat paycheck from interning at that fancy tech company), but the flowers threw you off.
Weren’t roses meant for dates? Was this a date? You looked around at the lavish restaurant, the candlelit atmosphere and the plethora of couples eating around you.
No, definitely not a date.
"Are you alright?" Seungmin asked with the gentle smile he only showed you. Funny, was it Hyunjin corrupting your mind, or did Seungmin's eyes sparkle when you looked at him?
You nodded, carefully putting down the flowers on the ground underneath your chair to make sure no one accidentally steps on them, "Yeah, I just had a weird day."
"Weird how?" Seungmin reached for your hand that was resting on the table, causing your stomach to do a somersault. Damn those stupid boys who just don't know when to keep their mouths shut! You just can't stop overthinking things anymore!
Wait. Now that you think about it, no thanks to those little shits, Seungmin has been abnormally affectionate the last few times you've hung out, holding your hand, letting you rest your head on his shoulder when you got tired, even full on cuddling with you when Jisung hosted a group movie night at his apartment. You'd reasoned it all in your head that he was probably just going through his more clingy phases, but now thinking back, Seungmin never liked to cuddle, even in his most clingy moments. And yet, he'd wordlessly pulled you to his chest that movie night as if he'd wanted you to cuddle with him all his life, even when his friends were around.
“Y/N?” He prompted gently, his eyes now filled with a hint of concern as he rubbed the back of your hand with his thumb.
The rational part of you wanted to just forget this whole thing. The boys say dumb shit all the time; how can this be any different? It would be so simple, so easy for you to just do as you’ve always done when it came to your feelings and run away.
But your heart, your lonely heart that has known nothing but secret glances and unrequited love was aching to take a chance. Minho, Jisung, and Hyunjin were idiots, but they weren’t cruel. They wouldn’t give you this false hope for nothing.
And for the first time, your heart won over, and you decided to be honest.
“Well, the boys keep saying that we’re dating,” you chuckled sheepishly, trying not to focus on Seungmin’s hand wrapped around yours.
To your surprise, Seungmin’s eyes grow wide as saucers as he all but squeaked, “They what now?”
You blinked, trying to be too taken aback by his reactions, “Minho and Jisung just yabbering on about us, and Hyunjin didn’t bat an eye when my boss asked him who I was dating,” you glanced at him, throwing caution to the wind as you asked hesitantly, “You don’t happen to know about this, right?”
Seungmin might as well have held up a giant flashing sign that said he absolutely knew about it. His ears grew bright red, redder than you’ve ever seen them turn, and he stammered for a moment, trying to find his words, “I-I--um--I told them not to use that plan.”
The carefully crafted excuse to get both of you out of this awkward situation that you held on the tip of your tongue immediately disintegrated, “W-what plan?” you stuttered out in disbelief.
Seungmin looked almost crushed as he pulled his hand out of yours, putting his head in his hands as he rested his arms on the table, “This stupid plan they made for me to ask you out,” he muttered, and if your hearing was ever so slightly worse, you would’ve missed those words completely.
“Why would you need a plan to ask me out?” you asked, and your heart could almost leap out of your chest at this point. It felt horrid waiting, waiting for the confession or the rejection. You’d almost regretted opening this can of worms when Seungmin suddenly looked up at you, his expression distraught.
“Why?” he repeated, smiling bitterly, “Was I really so out of your league that you didn’t notice how in love with you I’ve been this entire time?”
Your mind went blank and it felt as if someone had yanked the ground out from under you. This whole image of unrequited affection, this whole idea that you were never good enough for Seungmin to even look your way, it was all a farce, a con that was now being torn apart by his simple question.
“S-seungminnie,” your voice refused to work the way you wanted it to, and you stumbled over your words, “I didn’t know--I’m so sorry--I had no idea…”
“Hey, it’s alright,” Seungmin immediately sounded concerned as he watched you fall apart in front of him, “You didn’t do anything wrong, you have nothing to be sorry for--”
“I thought I wasn’t good enough for you!” You blurted out, looking into his warm, brown eyes as the shame bubbled out of your chest and you lowered your head, “I thought...I thought you would find someone better than me at your new university, at your new job.”
Seungmin sighed, and he reached over, resting to fingers under your chin and tilting your head up to look at him as he smiled, “There’s no one else I want except you,” he whispered, and you could’ve sworn your heart combusted right there.
And when Seungmin took you to the Christmas lights after dinner, the bouquet of roses still in your arms as he pressed his soft lips against yours, you couldn’t wait to go up to your friends the next day and proudly declare that yes, you were absolutely dating Kim Seungmin.
(and maybe give them a Starburst for making it happen.)
shane madej x reader
x x x
we both knew i was going to have to leave again. this trip wasn’t supposed to be forever. chicago was still my home, and la was still his.
i brushed his hair from his eyes and studied him for the last time before slowly trying to wake him. the song boots of spanish leather played quietly in the background.
“shane... shane, i need to go.” i whispered. “the plane leaves in two hours.”
his eyes fluttered open before he forced them shut again. “no. i dont want you to go.”
i crouched down to be level with him, his head lain on the bed i had already left to get dressed. “i need to. the plane wont wait for me.”
his eyes opened again and i cleared his hair from his face again.
“i wish you didnt have to go.” he told me, pushing himself up. i stood before sitting next to him on the bed.
“i wish i didnt, either. this fucking sucks.”
we both were silent again, side by side, sat on his bed. my legs were criss cross and i laid my head on his shoulder, closing my eyes.
i didnt want to go at all. i dont know the next time i would see him again. probably not a long time, plane tickets are expensive. and i knew i had to move quickly, but instead i invisioned me and him, alone, somewhere no one would be looking for us. maybe barcelona.
we would lay, side by side, on the beach. no one would need us. he wouldnt have any music to be writing, i wouldnt need to do any paperwork. just me and him.
i met him before la. i knew him before unsolved and before watcher. i was in love with him all through high school, though i didnt ever want to admit it. i wish i had, because maybe we couldve started dating before he moved across the country and i had to tell him over the phone. i just couldnt get him out of my head. after high school, i thought i wouldve been able to find someone new, but i always went back to shane.
ideas of what we could be doing right now without our responsibilities were interrupted by his voice. “why do you have to go? besides the plane. what do you need in chicago you cant get here?”
“what do you mean?” i took my head off his shoulder.
“like, do you need to be there? whats in chicago thaf isnt here?”
i knew he was tip toeing around what he really wanted to say.
“nothing.”
silence. then, “why dont you just move in here?”
“do you.. do you want me here?”
“ive been consumed by you since i was a sophomore in high school, y/n.” he paused. “every time you leave after a visit, i long to hold you again. yeah, i want you here. i really, really want you here.”
“if you swear to god... then yeah. yes.”
i didnt need to be in barcelona to be happy with him.
Terraqua Week Day 6 (Free Day)
Summary: Terra and Aqua are getting married—and Ven is the Bridezilla. || Word Count: 9,058
Read on AO3
A/N: @terraquaweek I could have never written this without my dear friend @localcryptideli. We talked about this wedding years ago, and I promised to write it. It’s here, three years later, blending their headcanons with mine and I couldn’t be more proud of it. <3
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
the threads that tie hearts together
Terra never once considered in his entire life that his wedding preparations would include the perk of mice squeaking in his ear—but he here is, in the tailor’s studio, getting re-fitted for his tuxedo, with Princess Cinderella’s team of seamstress mice on his shoulders, measuring the length of his arms. His muscles were too big for the previous suit.
Ven refuses to hire a proper tailor, and instead rents out the parlor so the mice could do their work in private.
Lea sits on a nearby bench by the shoe shelves, the top button of his shirt open, jabbing at his Gummiphone. He’s quite popular today, pinged every two minutes. Isa and Roxas share a mirror, trying to get the mechanics of their bow ties right.
Terra is getting married.
The thought. Married. Soon. Yes. Damn. He can’t cry right now.
Terra stands in front of a mirror and bends his elbows to see how the fabric moves. The mice are tiny, three of them in skirts. They’ve developed an efficient obstacle course of threads all down his entire body, a network so the mice on the floor can deliver them supplies—spools, sewing needles, thumbtacks, measuring tape—in a jiffy.
Lea groans, squeezing his Gummiphone. “This twerp is going to turn me into a serial killer.” He yawns, possibly for the fortieth time.
“Not an ill-fitting job, all things considered,” Isa says from across the room.
“I do appreciate your sarcasm.”
“Who’s bothering you?” Terra asks, lifting his collar so the mouse on his left could thread through it with a sewing needle.
Lea snorts, slaps his knee and leans forward. “Did you not know your buddy is a monster?”
“Ven?”
“Oh, he’s a joy.” Lea holds his Gummiphone up as if he’s about to make a speech. “Come help me pick out Aqua’s flowers. Now. If you could.” He glances at Terra, then back at the phone. “He writes that in all-caps.”
“I’m sure he doesn’t mean to be so pushy.”
“The other day, he called me to model the bride’s dress because Miss Aqua couldn’t be bothered to come to the fitting herself.”
“Master Aqua was away on a mission,” Isa explains.
“Isa took photos of me in it—” Lea scrolls through his phone, but stops. “Oh, I can’t show you before...” He clicks his tongue. “It’s very nice. Very bridal.”
Terra is sure that’s true, but the image of Ven hanging his head so much on someone else’s wedding is worrisome. Last night, he fell asleep at dinner. “I think Ven is taking on too much stress.”
“Lea,” Roxas says, snorting a chuckle and giving up on his bow tie, “you should show him the texts.”
“Gladly.” Lea stands to shove the Gummiphone into Terra’s face. Out of the history, a couple of messages stand out.
Ventus
I got 500 cake flavors come taste them with me
Ventus
Which cologne do you think terra should wear
COME SMELL
i need a second opinion
Ventus
Do you have aqua’s flowers yet?
remember
we want orange roses and bluestars
Ventus
Aqua isnt here im freaking out
Youre closest to her body type
HELP
After all that, Terra feels as though he’s being watched by several microscopic eyes. One of the mice squeaks with urgency, and he straightens one of his arms. “I don’t know what to say... Why doesn’t he talk to me directly?”
Lea purses his lips as though this is a secret not worth sharing. Roxas is the one to step forward, a knowing grimace plastered on his face.
“He told me that he doesn’t want to bother you with anything.”
That doesn’t sound entirely false but not true either.
“That’s ridiculous.” Terra tests the bend of the elbow to fiddle with his bow tie. It’s already done but something about it doesn’t sit right. “He could come to me for anything,” he says with a low voice, wondering if there’s something he’s missing. Terra has also been a mess. He’s getting married. Holy stars.
Isa huffs out of frustration, turning away from the mirror, his bow tie undone. He studies Terra’s suit. “I don’t like it.”
His straightforwardness is well appreciated. Aqua would probably smirk at the sight of it and stare at his neck the entire ceremony. “I don’t either,” Terra says.
“Smart man.” Isa smirks, and tugs Terra’s bow tie to undo it. “Let’s change it.”
Lea snorts. “You might want to ask permission from he-who-shall-be-slapped.”
“It’s my wedding,” Terra says.
“So you think.”
He-who-may-be-slapped enters the tailor’s parlor through the front entrance, announced by the bell of the ring. He’s perfectly dressed in his ringbearer’s/best man’s/maid of honor’s suit, vest fitted, bow tie sublime, sleeves coiffed. He sees what Isa is doing. He gapes.
“Hey guys,” Ven asks with a frustratingly shaky voice. “What are we doing?”
“They are unbecoming,” Isa answers, wrapping a traditional tie around Terra’s neck.
“Oh.”
Sometimes, speaking to Isa is like getting clocked in the stomach. By the looks of Lea’s expression, chewing on the edge of his Gummiphone, it’s well deserved.
“Okay,” Ven says, with a tight smile. He takes the tie from Isa’s hands. “Do they match?”
“A hello would be less rude,” Terra says. “Hi, Ven. Can we talk?”
Ven glances up. “Later. There’s lots to do.”
Lea inhales sharply. “Hey, Ven. Here’s an idea. Did you know you could tame cicadas to sing in harmony on command?”
Ven whips his head around. “You can?”
Isa brings a hand up to hide a smirk and Lea passes him a subtle wink.
“Picture it.” Lea opens his arms. “From nine until eleven at night, they gather in the bushes. They mutter, a light dusting of atmosphere on a peaceful summer night.”
Ven’s eyes grow wide with obsession.
Roxas comes near. “You can also make them glow.”
“Like stars in the bushes,” Ven whispers to himself.
“Come on, guys,” Terra says, unimpressed. “Leave him alone. We’ve got better things to do.”
Ven snaps himself out of it, but not before pulling out a notepad and writing notes. He eyes Terra over, nudging him to open his arms and pinching the sides of the suit. Ven draws them in by the measure of a finger and pulls pins out of his pocket, like he’s been expecting to use them, and marks their places. “Jaq Jaq,” he calls, “where’s Suzy? We need to make sure these ties look right. Oh, and we need two extras—we have to ship some to Riku and Sora.”
Some mouse squeaks in reply.
“I can help her carry things.” Ven gives a flash of a smile and then hurries off.
Out of earshot, Lea gives Terra a look. “Anyone able to talk to mice is a crazy person in my book.”
Terra glares back and quotes, “‘You could tame cicadas to sing on command?’”
“He needs something to obsess over. How else am I going to get peace?”
“This is going to bite you in the ass,” Roxas says, wrapping his new tie over the neck and having a much easier time.
“Ventus may very well task you with hunting and gathering the cicadas,” Isa says, a tie already in place, immaculate.
Lea groans and Terra feels it’s well deserved.
Well deserved… the suit may be. The future wife, maybe not. The suit is a glove for every finger with no excess. It makes him a good-looking groom, a nice addition to the closet for any special occasion. The bride is beautiful, no matter what she wears. She is loyal, patient, strong, intelligent, loving, funny when she’s stern, too good for him, a divine gift he didn’t earn and he still can’t understand how she said yes.
“I hope you’re laughing at the face of my misery,” Lea says.
Terra knows that’s sarcasm. Weddings are headaches, emotions are terrifying and Terra needs Aqua like a sip of medicinal tea to calm down.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The others squeal when they walk into Le Grand Bistro. It’s sunset, the city lights already ignited and giving it the glow of evening fairies welcoming the moon. They’ve just discussed dresses—Xion requests a pantsuit instead, which looks stellar—and they can choose their own styles so long as they all wear the color of night. Simple, elegant. That’s the kind of effect Aqua prefers. Thank goodness they’re almost done. Aqua couldn’t handle more hands in her hair and she rejected the flower crown that would have come down on one side to compensate for the lack of length.
She fiddles with the ring—a thin, intricate design weaved around a small, blue stone—as a waiter escorts them to the kitchen. On days when she doesn’t have missions, she wears it.
Aqua is getting married. Some part of her wonders about the surreality of it, like it’s a dream or a picture she created in her mind when she was a child, at the altar with a faceless person next to her. Sometimes, it feels like she is already married. Terra has always been with her. Every day in class. Every day strolling through the woods. Every day sparring, sharing meals, bickering and laughing. Her best friend, her confidant, her rock.
There is something about nearly dying that challenges perspective. When they both thought they’d never see each other again, it made them realize there’s more to it and there’s been more to it for years. The emotional intimacy that strengthened after the fact. The physicality of it, when he takes her to bed. They argue differently, they laugh the same. Terra has always been with her, so what is the difference between being with him and being married to him? A part of her is eager to find out. The other is already at peace, a kind of joy Aqua has always wanted.
Ven is in the kitchen, talking with Remy (responding to Remy, who is naturally unintelligible). Plates of cake pieces sprawl out on the table, eliciting oohs and aahs from the others, all patient like they’re waiting for Aqua’s permission to take a small bite.
Aqua reads through the description of flavors—strawberry, fudge, angel food cake with blueberries, red velvet, even coffee. “The one we requested isn’t here.”
“You mean…” Ven pulls out his notepad and looks through his notes. Remy climbs onto Ven’s head, squeaking and pointing to a bowl of flour and eggs, unmixed. “Dark chocolate and rum?”
“That would be correct.”
“A spicy cake? Are you insane?” At his shock and at Aqua’s denial, Kairi helps herself to a spoonful of vanilla. “This is a wedding, not a club!”
“My wedding, Ven.” Aqua isn’t annoyed, but amused. Ven has such strong opinions about for some reason.
“Try this one.” He holds up a plate of a decorated piece that honestly looks delicious. “Triple chocolate, with the rarest berries found in the woods, matured at thirty-five degrees Celsius for a week.”
“Burnt cake?” Kairi asks with a smirk.
“Not the cake, the berries.”
“Oh,” Xion gasps, with need in her eyes. It takes a nod from Aqua to grab a fork and have at it. She approaches each piece with so much excitement— Aqua wonders if there are flavors here she’s never tried before in her short life.
“What will the final cake look like?” Naminé asks, the only one not to dive forward. She’s so gentle, so serene. When they were trying out dresses, everyone was saying what a beautiful bride she’ll be one day if she chooses.
“Perfect,” Ven says, like it’s the most obvious thing. “It has to be perfect so it will look beautiful. Painted like a night sky, with stars everywhere. You got that, Remy?”
Remy glares at Ven.
“I want,” Aqua starts, and when Ven frowns, she smirks. Sometimes, for the sake of maintaining control, she has to play dirty. “Rosewater and cardamom.”
Ven sticks his tongue out in disgust.
“Terra needs something to enjoy,” Aqua insists. “These are all too sweet for him.”
“Terra is the bane of my existence.”
“By the way, I don’t know if I want King Mickey and Queen Minnie to officiate.”
“You are way more difficult to deal with.”
Aqua and Ven have a staring contest as the others talk about their favorite flavors. Ven, a glare, a challenge to outwit her. Aqua, a calm knowing that she’s going to win. Ven relents.
“Fine,” he stresses. “Remy, change of plans. We’ll need some damage control. Let’s add some”—he writes into his notepad—“fruit pastries, sweet cheese with chocolate—”
“Triple chocolate,” Kairi adds.
“Custard and kiwi,” Xion says.
“All good choices.” Ven writes them down.
“Sea salt ice cream?” Naminé says, lifting a shoulder. “Everyone else eats them, I hope to try some.”
“Ven.” Kairi slams a hand on the table. “You need to add marshmallows covered in hazelnut and chocolate.”
“We need all the chocolate,” Ven agrees. “Call it revenge on this nasty cake.”
Kairi cackles, but it’s nothing malicious. They’re young and excited about the wedding, their suggestions a way of helping. Aqua takes it all in stride. The small details don’t matter, only the intent, and letting friends have fun deciding makes the entire process easier. What’s bothering her is Ven. He’s exhausted from taking it all too seriously. Aqua assumes the best intentions, but she doesn’t get it.
“You know what would be really cute?” Xion says. “Little petit fours shaped in your symbols.”
Ven blinks. “What symbols?”
“Oh, the Keyblade Master symbols.” Naminé claps her hands. “That would be so lovely.”
“In different colors,” Xion says.
“Each a different flavor,” Naminé adds. “Maybe the same colors as your Wayfinders?”
“You two are geniuses.” Ven taps his notepad. “Remy, we gotta get to work.”
Remy stomps a paw and squeaks vigorously.
“No worries. You’ll get paid.” Though it seems that’s the last thing on Remy’s mind.
“Ven,” Aqua says softly, pulling him aside as the others brainstorm ideas. “I don’t think we can afford all this.”
“Sure you can,” he says too confidently, though she and Terra were the ones to save up their munny. “Don’t worry,” he stresses when she’s not convinced, giving her a squeeze on the arm. “You asked me to bookkeep your finances”
“Reminder that I did not ask you to take full responsibility. Remy can’t do all of this alone, he’s going to need you.”
“I’ve got plenty of time, and we’ve got plenty of budget.”
Aqua does not know how that is possible. After the dresses, the refitting of Terra’s tux, the decorations… sure, since they’re using the ballroom in the Land of Departure, they saved on not having to rent out a venue, but the original plan was to have a small, intimate wedding in the woods, something private with just the three of them, minimal decorations necessary, all plucked from nature.
All of this is out of their price range.
Ven goes back to the table, back to the stovetop and oven where he follows Remy’s instructions and mixes the flour in the bowl with some milk. He doesn’t assuage her at all, like he knows something she doesn’t.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Home should be a solace but not when it’s the wedding rehearsal.
Ven has ushered in movers from different worlds to carry in artifacts, all decorations, all star-themed. Terra has yet to see the ballroom, but the amount of people rushing through the hallways makes him nervous.
Ever since Terra called Riku in the dead of night (in a panic, needing someone to talk to, alone in the kitchen with a cracked mug of tea), blabbing about tripping on the way to the altar, or cutting the cake clean through the table, or stepping on linen and ripping the curtains, or dropping his plate of food, or looking like an idiot on the dance floor, or worse—forgetting his vows—he hasn’t lived a moment of peace. Sora won’t let him.
Terra finds it hard to breathe. What if he chokes on his vows and accidentally offends everyone?
He stays far away from the workers—it’s for the best. No one needs a huge bull stampeding in a china shop, destroying everything.
Lea crosses the hallway on his sixth trip and enters one of two entrances to the ballroom, vases of flowers in his hands. Terra peeks. From the looks of it, Ven did a fantastic job.
The ballroom, once gold, now looks like the set of night. The ceiling is covered in blue with twinkling lights. The table linens are also dark, with napkins and silverware sets a solid gold. Glass windows that take up one entire side to the ballroom are bare of curtains—the wedding is planned for after sunset so they’d be declaring their vows under the stars. Two navy blue carpets come in through both entrances of the ballroom, meeting in the middle and then straight to the altar at the far end. The point is for him and Aqua to enter together, like equals. With her in a bridal dress, she’ll look like a light in the darkness.
Through the doorway, Terra can see Riku and Sora, the latter making motions with his arms as if he’s flapping like a bird. Terra lets the door close so they don’t notice him.
There are fears he’s never voiced.
What if she realizes she doesn’t want to get married to him after all? At the altar no less?
Oh stars, what if he makes a terrible husband?
What if he neglects her?
What if, years down the road, she realizes after a slowly oncoming epiphany that she isn’t happy and regrets it?
Tonight is the party, tomorrow is the wedding, and Terra still has no vows. He pinches his nose hard enough to distract him from crying. He’s already cried five times in the arc of three hours.
Footsteps—light, brisque, confident, hers—approach him, and Terra embraces her in his arms, taking her in with a needy kiss. She smells like home, she lets him breathe again.
“You look like you’re about to fall apart,” she says, stroking a thumb on his cheek.
“Not if you’re my glue.”
She snorts, smacking him on the bicep. “What did I say about the puns?”
“Shower you with them.”
He kisses her before she can roll her eyes—
—and gets interrupted the moment Ven peeks out of one door.
“What’s with the hold-up?” he says.
Terra breaks from the kiss, casually noticing how Aqua is patting his shoulder, as if to warn him. “What’s with your attitude?”
Ven pouts like he’s about to choke and slaps the notepad to his forehead. “No one listens to me. I said baby blue and champagne on the napkins, all shaped to form the constellation of Juno… and they gave me yellow. I am gonna complain so much.”
“There are worse things?” Terra says and Aqua shakes his shoulder as another warning.
Ven snaps his eyes open. “Get into position, we’re starting.”
Aqua stands behind one door and Terra goes to the other, waiting for the cue to enter. On the other side, Ven is speaking out loud, organizing people and where they should stand. Grooms and bridesmaids will enter the altar from behind and gather together, leaving the carpet only for the star couple (no pun intended). He interrupts himself, raising his voice about vases that match too much and Terra can imagine him pointing across the room.
“I have to tell you something,” Aqua loudly whispers from the other side of the hall.
Terra runs to her and wraps an arm around her waist. Touching her is a panacea. Despite knowing there is still a possibility she’ll rethink this entire relationship, it seems unreal, like a nightmare.
“It’s about Ven,” she continues, keeping her voice low even though they’re the only ones in the hall.
“Lea threatened to slap him.”
She frowns.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“Don’t you think it’s too expensive?”
“I don’t know. Ven doesn’t tell me how much anything costs.”
“It’s way more than we have saved up.”
Terra gapes. “Then how—?”
Aqua stammers, fiddling with her fingers. “I looked into his books.”
Terra melts into a breath-heavy laugh, careful to keep his voice out of it. “Reading people’s diaries? Aqua, I thought I knew you better.”
She blushes. “I didn’t mean to, but I was worried.” Now Terra is worried. Her expression is too serious. “Ven has been doing side-missions and hustles for months just to earn enough to hire the best chefs and tailors, to buy linens and all these flowers and carpets—”
“He wouldn’t.”
“He did.”
“Why?”
“I think it’s because he wants us to be happy.”
“We are.” Terra doesn’t appreciate how he doesn’t sound confident, scared he’s assuming too much on her behalf. “How could he just…”
“We were stuck in darkness for so long and he couldn’t help us.”
“But that’s not his fault.”
“He feels he is the weakest and wants to compensate.” Aqua grimaces and she blinks back tears.
“I feel so guilty.”
“I feel worse.”
“Why?”
Aqua bites her lip. “I’m still attached to the idea of a small, intimate ceremony in the woods. Just the three of us. Does that make me a horrible person?”
“No. Our wedding has become a spectacle. Maybe pointing that out makes me terrible, too.”
She groans. “I found a book. I left it in your room. It’s very last minute, but there are some ancient rituals in there that I found so beautiful… the exchanging of rings is beautiful, too, but modern and there are some lost traditions from our Keyblade history that I’d love to do instead... if you could take a look?”
The way she smiles, stars. Ancient, modern, he’d do anything for her. “Sure. I’ll read it tonight.”
Aqua winces. “He’ll be so angry with us.”
Terra squeezes her hand. “He wants us to be happy. Think about that.”
One of the doors burst open, and Lea sticks his head out. “Kindly stop being an ass and don’t keep your guests waiting anymore?”
They start: Terra at one entrance, Aqua on the other, entering the ballroom at the same time, where guests will watch them approach one another, like the shadow of the moon to a star. They meet at the point where their lanes merge into one.
Terra offers his arm—
“Nonono,” Ven warns, running up to them. “You can’t meet her like this. You must bow at a forty-degree angle.” Ven scans the room frantically. “Here, I have a ruler.”
After that hiccup, Aqua finally takes Terra’s arm, walking down the single aisle, where guests can ogle at them. Their groomsmen and bridesmaids take pictures with their Gummiphones for their arrival at a wall of flowers.
Sora has his hands behind his head and snickers when they reach the end. “I made sure the carpet is ironed out so she doesn’t fall with you.”
“I’m going to kick you in the shins,” Terra says.
He snorts and wipes his nose. “I’ll kick you back.”
At the altar, Ven is too excited to stop rambling. “We have to make sure that you arrive here, at this spot, at exactly nine-thirty so we can finish the vows at ten because...” He frames the windows with his hands. “We’ve got a perfect spot for star sighting so we need to be on time.”
“Do you mean, right after the wedding ceremony?” Aqua asks.
“Before the reception, yup. We’re walking out to the balcony, we’ll watch the meteor shower where a new world will be born, then we’ll come back in for supper and dancing.” When he notices their stupefied faces, he continues, “I spent three weeks finding the right angulations so you can witness a unique astronomical event, and we’ve got a miracle of a spot right here so we can’t be late.”
“It’s a wonderful thought, Ven,” Aqua says, her voice shaky.
“Okay, now you get into position and face each other.” He points and they follow. “Next, Mickey and Minnie will talk some stuff, you know, all official, and then you say your vows.”
Terra freezes up. “Our vows.”
“Yeah. That’s what I said. You ready?”
Terra hesitates and Aqua speaks for him. “We’re keeping those a secret until tomorrow.”
Ven pauses, then shrugs. “Fair enough.”
Aqua doesn’t let Terra have another thought, leaning forward to kiss him in front of everyone (aahs and awws elicited), and ending the rehearsal.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“How do you get your skin so clear?” Kairi asks, though the warm glow of the fire makes for spectacular lighting.
They’re camping in the woods near the waterfall, equipped with warm blankets and pillows, a bowl of cookies, and toasted marshmallows on sticks; Aqua’s vision of a bachelorette party. No gifts necessary.
“Mountain spring water does wonders for you,” Aqua says.
“I’ve read in a magazine,” Xion says, crawling out of her sleeping bag, “that some people like to put mud on their faces to get clean skin.”
“Why?” Naminé asks, chewing on a marshmallow.
“Something about the properties. Lots of good minerals.” She walks over to the creek, digging her hands into the dirt and smashing it into her face against the shocks and cries of the other girls. “If mountain water is good for you, then that must mean this mud is magical.”
“Is that true?” Kairi says, though she’s asking no one. She hurries over and joins in on the mud-mashing, running fingers over Xion’s face in places she’s missed.
With globs of mud in their hands, they bring over the excess to the camp.
Xion offers it to Aqua. “For beautiful skin on your special day?”
“It’s our job to pamper,” Kairi says with her hands out so that Naminé can scoop up the mud on her own.
Aqua tries not to chuckle too loudly. It’s adorable. “Okay,” she says, and Xion gets to work, massaging it into her skin. It smells unpleasant, earthy and mukky. She closes her eyes and tries to relax regardless.
“I think we’re supposed to keep it on our faces for at least a half hour,” Xion says, rubbing more on Aqua’s nose.
“This will make us prettier?” Naminé asks.
“Cleaner,” Kairi says.
Naminé blinks, already covered in the mud and hesitating to put on more. “But we look dirty,” she says quietly.
“Can I request something, Miss Aqua?” Xion says, patting her fingers onto Aqua’s forehead.
“Certainly.”
“Can you tell us the story of how Terra proposed?”
Kairi jumps and squeals, and Naminé claps her hands, both of them chattering please, please, we’re dying to know.
“We’re around a fire,” Kairi says, as if that’s a convincing argument. “We’re supposed to tell stories.”
“I feel bad for asking,” Naminé says. “You’re very private, and I don’t want to intrude…”
Aqua reads her face. “But you’re curious.”
Naminé pouts. Xion’s eyes go wide, and Kairi nods excitedly. Everyone is guilty as charged.
“It’s a simple story, I guess,” Aqua says, crossing her legs and watching the fire. It’s not often that she talks so openly about the details of her relationship. The two of them together is something people know, but never knowing where they come from and why, except for Ven—even then, there’s so much he never pries to. Watching their reactions is a little overwhelming. She rubs the stone on her ring. “Terra made the engagement ring with his own hands, but he took months to propose.”
“I remember that,” Xion says, sitting on her chair and smiling. “It annoyed Lea so much that he offered to set you both up just to get it over with.”
Aqua laughs. “I’m grateful we had it to ourselves.”
“Was it romantic?” Kairi asks.
“Not at all. I… knew he was up to something. I know him.” She lifts a shoulder. “He was burning breakfast too often, he couldn’t look me directly in the eye, and he left on his own to do more missions than usual. I took that as though he had done something wrong. The last time he was that clumsy and avoidant, it was because he accidentally cast Firaga in the library and was trying to hide it. Or when he broke the oven. Or when he offered to do my laundry but didn’t know how to treat my fabric and ruined my clothes.”
“He sounds like a clumsy oaf,” Kairi says.
That makes Aqua smile. She loves that oaf. “He is. The general rule of thumb is that a clumsy, avoidant Terra is usually hiding something.”
“So how did the proposal happen?” Naminé asks.
“I cornered him—”
Kairi snorts.
“—and he blurted it out.”
They giggle, Kairi acting out how that may have looked and Naminé holding her hands over her heart in a show of genuine affection.
Aqua smiles to herself, a finger to her lips. It might be her favorite memory, her standing her ground and demanding to know what was going on.
Terra, looking all around the terrace except for her face, guilty, guilty, guilty, pulling a box out of his pocket and stammering for a cohesive sentence. Well, I don’t know what to say, he had said, like a child getting grounded. I-I’m sorry. I’m dumb, I’m a big lump of a human being. He paused, his cheeks rounding up like he was about to vomit. Will…will you marry me, anyway?
It felt like racing in a train and pulling all the stops, crashing. He got red in the face, tears welling in his eyes and she realized he took her silence as rejection. Aqua had to hold his forearms, and all she could utter was a soft, I genuinely thought you burned down a building.
Terra’s eyes went wide. Do you mean you’re not mad?
Of course not. Why would I be?
So… He licked his lips, reaching for her but not touching her, forgetting that he had the box with the ring inside. What do you say? I mean, you don’t have to give me an answer straight away. I mean, I just thought you would… you know… because… He sighed. Yeah.
Aqua finally laughed, and kissed him on the cheek. Of course I will marry you, you beautiful dork.
The laughter quiets around the fire. They’re waiting for Aqua to continue her story.
“Then he drops the ring.”
They howl, melting into a blissful exchange of cheers and gossip, a vibrant hearth brighter than the one keeping them warm.
“I had hoped to propose first, actually,” Aqua continues. She shrugs. “The end.”
“That was beautiful,” Naminé says, wiping her eyes.
“If Sora hears about this, he’ll never leave Terra alone,” Kairi says, grinning something mischievous.
“I don’t know what love is supposed to look like,” Xion says thoughtfully, gazing at the sky. “But it sounds sweet.”
In Aqua’s opinion, the proposal was perfect, him scattered on the ground frantically searching for the ring, her on her knees helping him. How he slipped it on her finger, how they kissed for an hour in the dirt, unaware that they were dusty, unaware that anyone else existed in the world.
Aqua nods, mostly to herself. It aches to be away from Terra tonight but it burns her insides to see him tomorrow and finally do this. Aqua wants to sleep and get this night over with but she doesn’t want to sleep so she could see the sunrise, knowing he’d be up early watching the same thing.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Bachelor parties aren’t fun.
Sora is whooping about a cannonball, the water splashing when he makes contact. Ven and Roxas race to the lake, testing who will be the first to dive, the first to swim across and come back. Considering the expanse of the surface area, they’ll be gone for a while and the barbecue will get cold, but maybe it’s for the best. It’s not the right time to talk to Ven right now, not when all of them have a moment of fun (except for Terra, the only one here thinking about tomorrow). Lea and Isa prefer to relax, sipping drinks on their chairs by the lanterns erected onto the sand, speaking quietly about memories, about chores, about home and what ifs.
Terra sits by himself, the thin booklet Aqua gave him on his lap, tucked under layers of parchment. It’s titled The Way, no author. She was right: old Keyblade rituals are interesting, almost possessive, their focus on the literal binding of hearts. They’re from the Age of Fairytales, and Terra realizes as he reads through it that ancient Keyblade wielders were for some reason obsessed with the loss of memory and the prevention of it. The rituals sound painful, too—maybe Aqua has developed a mild taste of macabre from her time in the Realm of Darkness.
All Terra has left to do are his vows. His stupid, dorky-sounding vows. He should have accepted the simple, “I do.” He shouldn’t have waited until the last minute.
He’s tried dramatic.
You are my other half, my heart, my breath of life, my sky, my angel, can we keep our souls together?
He’s tried poetic.
The mountain will thirst if not for the water—
He’s tried being honest.
I don’t know why you love me, but I’ll do my best to make it up to you.
All dumb.
Terra groans into his hands, eyes wide in existential blunder.
“Keep doing that,” Riku says, setting a chair next to him and sitting down, “and you won’t be able to blink again.”
“I’m not finished.”
“But if you don’t sleep, then you’re more likely to have accidents.”
Terra gapes and almost whacks Riku on the side of the head from the sight of his constricted smirk. “You’re so mean. I called you one time.”
“In a huge panic talking about causing mass destruction of a wedding the worlds have never seen.” Riku shrugs nonchalantly. That’s his state of being—too cool for anything, too sensitive for everything. It’s refreshing. “It was the funniest phone conversation I’ve ever had.”
“I’ll never call you again.”
“Not in the middle of the night, please no.” Riku bites a forkful of steak. “Is it cliché to tell you to speak from the heart?”
“This entire conversation is cliché, but here I am, living it out.” Terra stares at his messy pages, where he pressed the pen so hard that it left ink blots.
“You could do the very committal thing and tell her you love her fifty times.”
“All the guests would leave by the time I reach twenty-five.”
“More like fifteen.”
“Ten.”
“Disaster.”
Terra grimaces, not entirely comforted, but not entirely anxious anymore, either. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.”
“It is a big deal, I’ll give you that,” Riku says, more serious. “I don’t have any advice.”
“None of it makes sense. Be honest, but not too honest. Be loving, but don’t make it cheesy. Express yourself, but hold back on certain things. Do make it personal. Don’t expose personal details. How am I supposed to know how to do it right?”
It would be easier if there are no witnesses. If it’s just Ven, if Aqua is the only person he’s talking to, if he could simply say, You’ve been my best friend for as long as I can remember. I know I’ve fucked up. For as long as I live, I’ll never do that again. I will never take your forgiveness for granted.
And if she doesn’t want to be with him anymore, there’d be nothing he could say to make her stay.
“I think if Aqua was the kind of person who expected you to do it right,” Riku says, looking out to the lake where Ven and Roxas are swimming back to their shore, “you wouldn’t be marrying her.”
Terra bends the pages, exposing the cover of the thin, leather bound booklet. There are no vows he could use in there, except for the officiator declaring their hearts intertwined. “Thank you,” he mumbles.
“Sorry I can’t be of more help.”
Riku pats him on the shoulder and leaves him alone to take a walk, Sora begging him to enter the water. Terra flips to a page where he’s repeated I love you, I love you all over, each in different calligraphy, like doodling, like losing his mind and procrastinating the night away, hoping that any moment, inspiration would drop bricks on him.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
It’s time.
The strangest part of the day is waiting it out in her bedroom until it’s her turn to show herself. Over the years, her bedroom has been a reflection of her personality. The cleanliness, the artifacts from her home world long ago, the size of the bed, the furniture—they all stayed the same. What’s come and gone were the paint colors, the bedsheets, the art on the wall, the smaller vanity mirror. Her bedroom is her old life, and she sits in front of the mirror in her bride’s dress, about to start a new one. For now, they both collide, as though her childhood doesn’t know her.
The cape dress is simple, plain white with the neck scooped across the collarbone. The sleeves slit at the shoulders, draping over to the floor with the rest of the train. Aqua couldn’t have asked for something better. She completes the look with the ring, a jeweled hair pin on one side, and an armored choker. Makeup is minimal.
Aqua is surprisingly calm and the sun is going down.
Her Gummiphone buzzes with a text message.
Terra
Let’s do it
Aqua sighs, not texting back immediately.
Aqua
I don’t want to break Ven’s heart
Terra
I’ll talk to him
We can both get what we want
I already stole some flowers from the wall
Don’t think he notices
She chuckles, moving a hair strand behind her ear. She hasn’t noticed that her stomach has been a knot, from excitement, from nerves, from anticipation. The sun takes so long to set. Terra is the warmth of a tight blanket.
Aqua
Will this label me as a runaway bride?
Terra takes a long time to answer, giving her the impression that he must have been distracted and forgot to reply.
It buzzes.
Terra
The shame
Aqua
What will they think when they find out the groom seduced her to it
Terra
The scandal
when they hear how she met him secretly at the creek
an hour before the ceremony
It sounds like an action plan. Aqua picks up her bouquet of orange roses and bluestars from her vanity table, heading out the door.
Aqua
I want Ven there
Terra
Definitely
I love you
Aqua
I love you too
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Terra finds Ven in the dining room, taking inventory of an indulgement of sweets and a feast of meats, fritters, and rice. The wedding cake is as tall as his body, a dark blue with smacks of gold glitter in the shapes of galaxies, large stars framing each layer, and topped with two halos. Ven is mostly dressed in his vest and tie, the suit missing. By comparison, Terra is overdressed, a groom ready for his encore.
Ven sighs when he sneaks a cookie the shape of the Keyblade Master symbol into his mouth, as though Terra’s presence reminds him of disappointment.
“I couldn’t tame the cicadas,” he says morosely, like he’s apologizing, and for a moment Terra second-guesses what he’s about to do. Ven eyes the white rope curled around Terra’s shoulder. “What’s that for?”
“This may either cheer you up or piss you off,” Terra says, dropping The Way on the counter.
“I don’t like how you said that.” As Ven flips through pages, he frowns, chewing on the side of his lip. “Are you... not happy with the wedding preparations?”
Terra inhales, caught off guard. “Of course I am. Happy, I mean. It’s… huge. It’s a giant ordeal.”
“And you don’t like that,” Ven says quietly, stroking one of the pages with his thumb.
“I think there are things we’ve always wanted to have privately.” Terra sits on a stool, but Ven won’t look him in the eye. “And we want you to be there. We can do it now. We’ll be back in time for our guests.”
The booklet shakes in his hands. “I messed up.”
“From my point of view, I’ll be eating very well tonight. There’s nothing to compensate for.”
Ven closes the book. “I just wanted to do a good job.”
“If you allow Lea to slap you, he’ll forgive you.” Terra smiles, but Ven doesn’t join him. “We’re still doing your grand ceremony—that, we could never pull off on our own. But we also want something tiny and ours, and we won’t do this without you.” Terra takes Ven’s hand and squeezes it, before glancing at the cake. “I hope it’s delicious.”
“It’s disgusting so you’ll definitely like it.”
“See, I can always count on you.” Terra stands up. “Now come on. You wouldn’t want us to be late for the bride.”
Terra takes him to the creek, not far from where Aqua hosted her bachelorette camp, where the sound of rushing water is gentle and the creek splits into two directions, one that would drip off the side of a cliff and one that would join a massive river downstream. The trees huddle close in the clearing, a soft shadow from the fierceness of the setting sun, like a pocket of protective magic in the middle of the forest.
Ven gasps. “You stole my flowers.”
“Please, you didn’t even notice.” Terra had built an easy wooden arbor before the crack of dawn that morning, an arch weaved with orange and blue flowers, spotted every so often with green lilies. He showered right after so no one would suspect.
“Let’s take it over there.” Ven points to a short boulder against a tree nearby, a good photo op. They pluck the arbor up from both sides and plant it in front of the boulder. Ven takes stock of the sight. “Not bad.”
“Thanks!”
“I take credit for the choice of flowers.” Ven rolls the rope into a tight circle, layering it on the boulder with each loop in equal circumference. He splays the book open and studies. “It’s kinda creepy,” he says though he gets no response and he doesn’t ask for one.
Terra shoves his hands into the pockets of his tuxedo and waits. Aqua isn’t here yet. The vest constricts his breathing, the thicket suddenly feels humid, and Terra wipes his cheek, realizing that his heart is beating fast. Time sped up to this moment and dropped him here without warning. Now it’s slowing down out of pure, unjustifiable spite to torture him in the final hour.
“You okay, dude?” Ven asks.
Terra lifts his face to the sky to keep the tears in his eyes. “If I cry now, I think I’ll cry for the rest of the night.”
Ven snorts. “No one would be surprised, trust me.”
But it’s not working. He’s two seconds from sobbing. “I don’t know. I…” He scoffs. “I can’t believe it’s happening. I’m expecting her to never show up or brush me off last minute when she realizes what we’re doing—”
“No.” Ven approaches Terra like he’s about to punch him in the stomach to make a point. “Don’t think like that, she’d never do that.”
Ven has good faith and better timing. Aqua approaches the other side of the clearing, the fabric of her dress gracefully making waves with every step, the foliage fluttering light and shadow on her figure. She holds her bouquet in one hand and a framed photograph tucked under the other.
It shocks Terra.
He can’t stop the flow of tears. He covers his shivering lips and the drip of his nose, his face twisting from the sight of her—brilliant, like she’s made of stars, a gift walking the earth.
“Terra, are you okay?” Aqua asks, rushing to him now, the train of her dress bouncing behind her.
In the flash of an instinct, Terra runs to meet her, tripping over a branch and landing right into her arms.
“You’re—” Terra sucks air in, his heart shoving itself up his esophagus. “Y-you’re s-so beautiful.”
Aqua uses her pinky to wipe his tears. “So are you.”
“Let me help you.” He takes the frame—a portrait of the Master, bordered with a white ribbon—and walks her to the arbor. Ven takes the portrait and places it on the boulder, their little family tied together, fractured in glued pieces, now and always. Before they start, Terra asks Aqua to pose under the arbor so he can take a picture of the trees and the flowers surrounding her. Beautiful.
“How do we do this?” Terra asks when he finds his voice again, still trembling. Aqua stands to the side to take her place. She’s beautiful.
Ven takes the book in his hands. The description of this ritual covers at most two pages. “Well, it’s archaic. It’s from the Age of Fairytales but it sounds like we will intertwine your hearts—but in an intense way, like we’re sewing them together.”
Aqua holds her bouquet to her chest. “Shall we start?”
Terra chuckles too hard, gasping for breath. “Simple as that.”
They wait for Ven’s cue, who also has no idea how to do anything. Ven clears his throat, shrugs his shoulders, and reads:
“We witness today the soldering of two hearts. To intertwine like the roots of a tree, the severance painful, the nourishment plentiful. A physical bond, a magical one, the merging of two sprites under the guidance of one truth. Two hearts, but one.” Terra watches the way Aqua watches him. There’s no one else in the world, Ven’s voice disconnected, like it floats on air. “Now it says to summon your Keyblades. Dig the tips into the ground, and offer your hilts to each other.”
Ends of the Earth is massive, taller than Ven. Stormfall looks delicate but it’s menacing, sharp, direct. They offer their hilts, the shafts crossed over each other, Stormfall light and airy in his hand, Ends of the Earth weighty and thick in hers.
Terra finds it interesting that they’re using the hilt to connect each other’s hearts—the Keyblade should never be used against a person’s heart in traditional Mastery, because it’s such a dangerous weapon and it’s so violating. The blunt hilt, on the other hand, the physical manifestation of their hearts, is like exposure, an offer of vulnerability.
Aqua’s feels like it’s thrumming, singing. She’s happy.
Ven steps forward with the rope and ties it over the hilts in loops. “This is just an image, the ties that bind, two Keyblades, but one. To intertwine a heart is to forge a chain, a friend, a companion, a memory. If missing then a void, a dream, a wish until reunion.” He steps back into position. “Before we go on, I think this would be a nice place to say your vows. Terra, you first.”
Terra stammers, looking into her eyes. “I-I couldn’t write one. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Ven whispers, pulling a piece of paper out of his pocket. “I wrote some just in case.”
Terra doesn’t take it. He licks his lips. “It wouldn’t have been graceful. None of it—all of my thoughts—pale in comparison to you, Aqua.” He steadies himself with labored breathing, the squeeze on her Keyblade like a hold on her waist. “You’re so, so beautiful, and I’ve spent my days believing I don’t deserve you, because… because I couldn’t make things right like I should have.”
Aqua quivers, gently touching his arm with her free hand and motioning for him to breathe.
He continues, “I’m sorry. I wish the Master was here. I wish I was smart enough to prevent it from happening.” He inhales, choking up from the mention of Eraqus. “I never thought you would marry me of all people, so… I promise... I will be there every step of the way. I promise you, if you’re scared at night, I’ll be there to protect you. If you’re hurting in another world, I’ll come find you. If you’re confused, I’ll hold you close and help you make sense of it. I’ll brew you tea to help you sleep, I’ll step in the line of fire even if you wish to do the same for me, I’ll walk to the ends of the earth to make sure you are safe and healthy. I promise I’ll be with you.
“And I’ll mess up. I know me. I’ll fix it. If you want to clobber me, I’ll be patient. I’ll learn. I’ll do better. Every day you save me from myself. This is the least I can do. I’ve loved you since I was a kid. I’ll love you every day.”
Silence falls on all of them, Terra sniffing just to get some fresh air, Ven wiping his eyes, Aqua blinking too much.
“Now you, Aqua,” Ven says.
Despite being teared up, Aqua holds it together. She’s so good at that.
“Terra, I stand with you because I do want to be here. I do want to be by your side. I do want to laugh at your bad jokes.” She relieves a giggle. “I love you. I have for as long as I can remember, even if I didn’t know the words for it.” She studies his face. “I’m sure the Master is here with us, and he couldn’t be prouder of you. I’m proud of you.” Suddenly, she switches her tone, as if to lecture. “And if you even fathom taking a hit for me, remember that I’m faster than you. I’ll protect you first.” Then she softens. “I promise to be your shelter when the storm falls on us. I promise to sit on your bedside when you’re sick, to lift you up when you’re down about yourself, because you are sometimes.
“You are my home, no matter how far your heart is from me. If you need a star to light your way back, I’ll give it to you.” She smiles widely, like she’s about to laugh. “If something between us breaks, I’ll mend it with you. I can’t imagine my life any other way.”
Their words are now spoken. Aqua suppresses a laugh and grins like a child. Terra holds his breath, just in case he screams from every emotion that he can’t name.
“Well,” Ven says, rolling his sleeve up so he could wipe his nose on his forearm. “I guess it’s time. This bond is an oath you will remember each other until you close your eyes for the last time, for the tragedy to forget is to be alone forever. Do you accept this?”
“I do,” Terra says.
Aqua hums. “Yes, I do.”
Ven smiles. “You know what to do.”
With his free hand, Terra presses two fingers to his chest, over his heart, where he builds a golden glow. Twenty years living with her, ten years in darkness thinking about her, this vow is impossible to break—even if they can’t do this any longer, Terra could never forget her. Never. In his hand is now a piece of himself, a nugget of his heart, a memory of her in his bed that he never wants to lose.
He takes those fingers to her chest, two thick golden threads drawn out from his heart. She winces at the touch, quick to dissolve. Stormfall shifts in his hand, growing longer, its hilt thicker and darker, wrapping around like a weaved shield. A subtle change, a little piece of him.
Aqua does the same, fingers to her chest first to create the threads, bringing them to his chest. It does hurt, like a needle digging into his skin, sharp for the entire length until it’s suddenly gone.
He feels full, as though his insides are creating space for something extra. Warm, frightening, whole, exciting. Her piece is a memory he can’t read but he doesn’t need to. Ends of the Earth opens way for an icy blade to cut through the middle as the hilt fans out like wings. A piece of her to take with him where he goes.
“Alright,” Ven chirps, snapping the booklet closed. “The book ends with the quote, Two hearts, only one, but I think this means I can call you husband and wife in secret. So kiss.”
Their Keyblades dissipate when they hold each other, tender but with appetite, unaware of their surroundings for several selfish moments. With sewn threads, it’s as though he breathes through her. Terra presses her onto him, feeling how her heart now beats in sync with his.
“I love you,” she whispers. They are married.
He’ll never tire of hearing it. Stars, they are married. “I love you, too.”
Terra hears Ven sniff before a handkerchief is shoved into his face. “You need your face dry and clean before everyone sees you,” Ven says.
The sunset now is deep, a fiery orange. Terra doesn’t want to let go.
“I’ll hold you again tonight,” Aqua says, patting his chest. “I want to see the meteor shower Ven promised.”
“It’ll be a good one,” Ven assures.
Terra kisses her. “Then we have to make a run for it.” He picks Ven up like a log, jogging through the thicket of the forest with Aqua close behind him, the Master in her arms. When they approach the castle, in the twilight, they hear chatter coming from the halls, as though ghosts are partying outside.
Terra feels at peace despite that he now has to perform, balancing on a tightrope where he doesn’t care if he falls. He turns around and holds her neck to kiss her again, feeling her laughter in his mouth. “One more?” he asks when they break.
Ven, still tucked in Terra’s arm, groans. “I never asked for a front seat to the kissing show. Is this my punishment?”
Aqua kisses him one more time, whispering to him I love you for what will be a string of I love you’s in the night to come. Friends will cheer, Terra will trip on the way to the altar, Sora will cry because Terra will cry, Xion will eat too much cake and get sick, Isa will laugh because he is drunk, Kairi will be the star of the dance, Aqua will be the star in his eyes.
i'm not sure if i have anyy suggestions that you'll want to write, but i'll send them in as they come to mind
so excited for your writing ^^ no pressure though, best of luck with your studies!!
y/n is studying (something difficult, maybe pre-med or med school?) and is feeling a little drained and self-doubtful. she gets up from her space to take a second and is reminded of a time she spent with <whichever haikyuu boy you'd like to write about>. they hadn't gotten to spend much time together as a result of their busy schedule, so the memory of this weekend is especially special to her. start flashback of fluff they had met for dinner, spent time together, cuddled and slept (not 18+) together. they both woke up early but opted to stay in bed together, content in eachother's company, making small talk, laughing softly, fluffy stuff. y/n had brought up her struggles to <haikyuu boy of choice> and he'd been there for her to confide in. she knows its her dream, but casually wonders if she isnt cut out for it. he actively listens, offering comforting touches, until she's finished and then helps her talk it out until she's back up in confidence. more fluffy morning end lashback of fluff y/n feels better having remembered <hq boy>'s pep talk and resumes her efforts.
yeesh, idk how long/short/detailed/vague suggestions are supposed to be, so sorry! 😅 i'll try to be more vague, if you'd like, in the future
hi!! omg u r SO cute i’m in love. anyways, i love your suggestion! it’s amazing. and don’t worry, the more detail the better!
for this request, i’ve chosen Daichi. because i’m a daichi whore i believe in daichi supremacy
Warnings: none :) fluff, daichi x f!reader
alright, anyways, enjoy!
You stared at the piles of paper on your bed. You couldn’t even begin to recall what the different colours of the paper meant. You were just glad you had written it down on your phone.
“This is ridiculous,” you whispered to yourself.
Your back was aching, your muscles were sore, and your eyes burned from the constant strain. You had a final coming up and it was killing you in more ways then one.
“Is this even worth it? I mean, really, what are the chances of me getting into med school?”
You groaned and fell back on your pillow. You dragged your hands down your face. You had been spiraling down a tunnel of self-doubt and it was affecting you. You had begun talking to yourself even more than usual, especially since you cut contact from everyone for a couple of days.
Your phone chimed beside you and you turned your head to face it. You had promised yourself to turn it off, except you forgot.
Well, you didn’t forget, you just didn’t want too.
You picked it up and your eyes fell on the message that your boyfriend left you.
From: acab but not him🙄❣️
‘good evening, beautiful. make sure to eat something, yeah? and get some fresh air. you’ve got this babe, i believe in you❣️’
You smiled at the message. Unknowingly, a few small tears formed at the corners of your eyes. Daichi had a week long training camp that coincidentally aligned with your final. Now, Daichi was in Tokyo and you were cooped up in your room.
Daichi had made it his job to send you texts almost every hour to remind you he loved you and to eat. You didn’t think you could love him even more.
Due to his own busy schedule, Daichi and you hadn’t been able to spend too much time together before he left. But you knew that as soon as you had taken the final, you were going to spent three days in his arms.
You sent a quick text back, telling him you loved him and that you were going to get something to eat now.
You slowly slid out of bed, making your bed and your bones make noise out of agony. Your knees cracked and you looked down. “Just break,” you prayed.
When nothing happened, you huffed out an annoyed breath and made your way to your kitchen. You and Daichi had moved into an apartment two years ago, and you loved every part of it. Your home was your baby.
As you walked, your eyes fell upon the black leather jacket that laid jumbled up on the couch. Your thoughts immediately flashed to the weekend, the last time you had seen Daichi.
It was Friday night, which meant date night for you and the police officer, and it was perfect.
You parked your car outside of the Miyagi Police Station, waiting for Daichi.
You stood outside, enjoying the light breeze. Daichi had texted you to give him a couple minutes. Today was Friday, which meant date night for you and your lover.
You heard some ruckus and lifted your head, meeting Daichi’s warm gaze. He had a large grin etched onto his face and you felt your own lips pull into a smile.
Daichi walked up to you and pressed a quick kiss to your forehead. “Hello, darling.”
You brushed away the few dark locks that fell on his forehead. “Hello, officer.”
Daichi’s eyes slightly narrows at the use of the word. He absolutely loved and hated when you called him officer. It did things to him.
“Come, let’s go. I’m starving.”
You nodded and pulled away from him, walking to the drivers seat. Daichi always insisted you drive when you picked him up because he wanted to ‘get his full of you’ because he was at work. You never truly understood it, but you liked his heated stare on you so you never said anything.
You and Daichi ended up going to your favourite restaurant. You went here a lot, and were now on first name basis with the manager and half of the employees.
You and Daichi both ordered your regulars and ate peacefully, with some small talk here and there. A hungry Daichi usually resulted in a quiet Daichi.
After dinner, you drove to the park by your house to get some fresh air and to work off some of the food you just ate.
Late night walks with Daichi were your favourite little activities you did with him. Daichi loved late night walks with you too. He loved watching the moon glow on your skin as you stared adoringly at the stars.
Daichi held your hand in his, gently swinging them. He wore black jeans and his favourite grey shirt, with his black worn out leather jacket you had gotten him a couple of years ago.
You kept your eyes on him. His skin glistened in the moonlight and you found him as beautiful as the stars that twinkled above him, if not more.
“What’re you thinkin’ bout, love?”
You turned your head, finding it completely unfair that someone so beautiful stood next to you.
“You,” you mumbled truthfully.
“Is that so?” Daichi’s voice came out teasingly.
You let go of his hand and skipped forward until you stood a couple of feet away from him. You pointed at him and he stopped, hands in his pockets and a smile on his face.
“You, Sawa, are the love of my life.”
Daichi’s eyes widened slightly and a flush of pink now rested on his face. Daichi cleared his throat but couldn’t help the grin that had replaced his smile.
“And you’re mine.”
You grinned at him and then continued to walk until you reached the hill that overlooked your neighborhood. You crouched down, and then sat down, pulling your knees to your chest.
Daichi soon followed, except he sat behind you, and spread his legs so you were sitting between them. He pulled you close to your chest, until your back rested completely against his chest.
You tilted your head back, resting it on Daichi’s shoulder. One of Daichi’s large, warm, hands laid on your stomach, rubbing softly. The other was playing with your hair.
This is it, you thought. I’ll never love anyone the way I love him.
You looked up at the stars. You had always had a fascination with the balls of of heat and energy. When you were a child, your dream was to become a star. You’re not quite sure when that dream led you on the path of medicine, but it did.
Daichi stared at you. It didn’t matter that you two had been together for almost six years, Daichi could never get over how beautiful you were.
The way your hair glistened in the moonlight, the way your eyes twinkled, as if you held the stars in them yourselves. Daichi stared at you the way you stared at the stars.
With complete and utter adoration.
Daichi’s eyes landed on your hands. He watched as they slight shook, and how your tried to make them stop.
He frowned. Your hands only shook when your were stressed.
As swiftly as he could, Daichi grabbed your shaking hands and held them together, complete engulfing them in his own.
“You’re shaking, love. What’s the matter?”
You froze. Caught.
Even though you should have been calm, happy even, since you sat under the stars with your lover, the final that loomed over your shoulder had your nervous system in shambles.
Daichi’s thumbs rubbed the backs of your hands as he waited for your response.
“I’m just nervous,” you mumbled. You hated speaking about up-coming tests or finals. You always had really bad anxiety when it came to any form of testing, and Daichi knew that.
He knew everything about you.
“What about?”
You sighed and extended your legs. Daichi had a way with words. Even when he didn’t speak much, his presence and silence alone spoke tenfold.
“Nothing, really,” you let out an awkward laugh. “You know I’m always a little bit nervous.”
Daichi wanted to press on the matter. He wanted you to speak to him, he wanted to be able to share your stress. But he also knew that you would talk to him when you were ready.
Daichi pressed a soft kiss on your neck. “Talk to me when you’re ready, love.”
You nodded. “I will.”
Daichi kissed the small space behind your earlobe. “Let’s go home, yeah?” You nodded, agreeing. Daichi stood up and then put out his hand for you. You grabbed it, and let him pull you up with ease.
You two began the journey home, reaching in a couple of minutes.
You and Daichi changed into your nightwear. You were wearing one of Daichi’s shirts, and he was just wearing grey sweatpants.
You couldn’t keep your eyes off his body, but managed to look away before he caught you.
Daichi slipped under the covers, and then lifted them. He patted his chest. “Come lay on me.”
You immediately obliged, jumping onto his chest, causing Daichi to let out a small grunt.
You let all your wait drop on Daichi’s body. Your head was in the crook of his neck, and your chest lay flat against his. You could feel his heartbeat against yours and it took you a moment to realize that both your hearts beat at the same time.
As one.
Daichi slid his left hand under your—his—shirt, rubbing your back. It was these moments he wanted to truly cherished. He knew you were stressed about the final that was coming up. He had put the date in his phone when you mentioned it.
Daichi realized that today had been the quietest days you two had had. But he didn’t mind. He loved everyday with you. The quiet, the loud, the hectic, and the crazy.
Daichi began to hum. He could feel the knots in your back, and he knew you should have a nice relaxing weekend before you began to study.
Before he knew it, Daichi heard your soft snores fill the air.
A wide smile broke out on his face. Daichi absolutely adored your sleeping face. All your worry lines disappeared and you looked the most at peace when you slept in his arms.
Daichi slightly pushed himself up. He wanted to be able to see your properly. His brown eyes softened at the sight of your hand against chest. You often called him a creep for staring at your sleeping face, but he always just shrugged it off.
After some time, Daichi found himself driting off to sleep, but not before he tightened his hold on you and kissed your forehead. “Sleep well, my love.”
Hours later, your eyes fluttered open, but you immediately cringed and shut them again.
The sun was facing directly at you. You had forgotten to close your blinds.
You tried to adjust your posture, but immediately stopped when you heard a low rumble from Daichi. No, you felt it, and you froze at the vibrations.
“Don’t move, love.”
Daichi’s voice was low and husky, and slightly dry. You lifted your head and found yourself still laying on his chest. Daichi’s arms were securely wrapped around you, his eyes were shut.
The sound of his morning voice hit you right in the stomach and you couldn’t help but brush your fingers against his cheekbones.
Daichi’s eyes shot open. His dark brown eyes met yours, and for a moment, everything stopped.
You looked so beautiful, Daichi thought.
“Good morning,” you whispered.
Daichi smiled at you and let his head drop back on the pillow. “It is a very good morning, indeed.”
You used your hands and slightly pushed yourself up, so you were now straddling Daichi’s waist. His eyes opened and landed on your nervous smile.
“What’s wrong?”
Daichi grabbed your hips and pushed himself up, so his back was against the headboard.
You now sat on his thighs, and his hold on you tightened a little bit.
You stared at the man in front of you. Even after having you sleep on him for hours, he still looked perfect. It pissed you off, especially since you knew you probably had some drool on your chin.
Daichi leaned forward and pressed a small kiss to your forehead. “Talk to me.”
You nodded and began to play with your fingers.
You couldn’t help but think of the final you had to take in a couple of days. It didn’t make sense, you thought. You had taken finals and tests before, but for some reason, the one you had in five days had disrupted your sleep and taken over your life.
“I’m so nervous for the final, Sawa. I feel like there’s a knot in my stomach and it keeps tightening. I can’t breathe.”
Daichi began to rub the skin above your hip with his fingers. He listened attentively. He was gonna let you talk first, getting everything off your chest.
“I know I always complain and then end up doing well, but what if this is the one I flunk? What if this is the one I end up failing? It’s so nerve wracking. I don’t even know if I wanna do this anymore.”
Daichi’s hands slipped under your shirt and he slowly began to massage your back and shoulder muscles. He wanted to offer you physical comfort.
He knew you were often a mess of nerves and anxiety a week before any test, and no matter how many times he assured you that you would do fine, you always ended up getting caught up in your head.
“I know it’s my dream. But at this point, dropping out sounds ideal. There’s enough doctors in the world, right? Maybe I should do something less nerve wracking.”
You sighed and closed your eyes. It felt nice to finally get your thoughts off your chest.
Daichi’s hands squeezed your hips in response. He hated hearing you talking yourself down. It made him feel so helpless, because for him, you were his everything. He had the upmost respect and belief in you.
“Y/n, love, from everyone in your life, you are the only one who doesn’t fully believe you can do this. I know medicine is a very hard and competitive occupation, but you know I believe in you. If anyone can power through this, it’s you.”
Tears had pooled in your eyes. Daichi had always been so good with words. You knew that Daichi had always been mature for his age, meaning his patience and abilityto comfort you was far better than anyone else’s.
His compassion and understanding was his greatest qualities. His calming aura always managed to break through all your walls. It was what made him such a good captain.
“What if I fail?”
You had mumbled your question, hoping he wouldn’t have caught it.
But he did.
Daichi leaned in and kissed your nose “You won’t. And if you do, then you fail. You shouldn’t be scared to fail, y/n. You should be scared to give up. If you fail, you can always take it again.”
You sighed and lightly nodded. Although you appreciated his words, you knew they would only comfort you for a day or two.
“Thank you, Sawa.”
You tried getting up from his lap, but Daichi had other plans. He grabbed your hips tightly and leaned in, kissing your lips.
You didn’t hesitate, you just began to kiss him back eagerly.
Daichi’s right hand slid up your back, pushing you into him.
Your lips moved together in sync, and you brought your hands to his hair, clutching the soft ends tightly.
Daichi slightly pulled away, only to gently kiss your lips again.
Before you could deepen it, he pulled away again.
“It’s not easy, y/n. But accomplishing your dream never is. You’re gonna do great, just like you always do. I believe in you, and it’s time you do as well.”
His words wrapped around your anxious thoughts and completely anguished them.
You nodded, your nose brushing his.
You closed your eyes and let your head drop on his shoulder. Daichi wrapped his arms around you again, pulling you flush against his chest.
You stayed in that position for hours.
You in Daichi’s lap, with his hands running up and down your back as he comforted you with his words of love and stories to keep your mind off everything.
You blinked a couple of times, trying to recall what exactly what exactly what you were doing.
As you recalled Daichi’s words, you let out a small breath.
He was right, you thought. You weren’t going to fail and you were going to be okay.
You grabbed the leather jacket, and slipped it on. It smelled of Daichi and it was exactly what you needed right now.
You walked into the kitchen and grabbed a packet of ramen.
As you made the noddles, you unknowingly smiled the whole time.
Thinking of Daichi had lifted your spirits and you felt better.
He loved you, and he believed in you, and for you, that was enough.
Tumblr media
So… about this latest Inktober controversy….
Time to begrudgingly chuck in my two penneth… (Remeber you can always press “J” to skip this post altogether)
As most of you may or may not know, Alphonso Dunn released a Youtube video wherein he publicly accused Jake Parker, and creator of the Inktober challenge, of plagiarising his book. Both of these men are public figures, artists specialising in pen & ink. In the video Dunn looks at the preview pages and flip through footage of Parker’s “Inktober All Year Round” and says they draw many similarities in the illustrations, language and layout that he used in his own book, “Pen & Ink Drawing”. Parker’s book was set to this month. Hense why Dunn only used footage and not a physical copy.
Since the video’s release, the art community has been very spilt down the middle. The book’s publisher has halted the launch of Parker’s book until the matter can be investigated. Even DeviantArt cancelled their own Inktober event thing (I’ll admit I don’t keep up with these things DA keeps doing). Parker has since released a statement in the matter. Now it’s up to the courts to decide what’s happening next. The video itself is an hour long, but it’s crucial to see it yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
People are, understandably, outraged after seeing it. This seems like a shitty thing to rip-off Dunn - not to mention stupid. Since Dunn is the more popular pen & ink artist with more social media followers and name recognition. Many have called to boycott inktober and condemn Parker. I’ll admit, I was right alongside them at first, at least for feeling outraged. The similarities are there. But if YMS’s Kimba video has taught me anything, it’s that, even if an accusation of plagiarism may be obvious at a cursory glance, sometimes it’s important to take a more critical eye and do more research to learn that things aren’t as cut and dry as they first seem. If there’s a lesson I can take away from the internet as a whole, it’s that no one thinks about the consequences of mob mentality.
The most common defence of Parker is that because they’re both books about pen and ink drawing, then they’re inevitably going to be similar. I’ll admit that, when you pick-up so many art books, a lot of them will cover the same basic grounds of materials, tutorials, strokes, techniques etc. The parts about rendering textures on spheres and cubes isnt new. Look up “texture study” and you’ll see so many examples of artists rendering these kinds of things digitally. I’ve also noticed a common theme of people more formally educated in art pointing out how none of these are original. Everything down to the steps and illustrations are things they’ve learned from years ago. Since I'm a pen & ink artist, inspired by my love of comics, I have quite a few books about inking: Dunn’s included. I own both his books and still highly recommend them. I didn't even preorder Parker’s book. Ironically because I didn't think it could offer anything new that my other books hadn’t already.
While Ethan Becker took the time to cross-examine Dunn and Parker’s books with several others, there weren’t many of the ones I actually owned. So I looked to my shelves to see what I could find. Books like:
“The Art of Comic Book Inking” by Gary Martin & Steve Rude
“How Comics Work” by Dave Gibbons & Tim Pilcher
“The DC Comics guide to Inking Comics” by Klaus Janson
“Making Comics” by Scott McCloud
“Stan Lee’s How to Draw Comics”
I’m sure there’s plenty more examples out there. I was planning to go through all of these and take pictures. But ultimately that’s not the core point of these post. Plus it would’ve taken WAY too long and this post itself, is long enough.
Of course, none of the them are 100% close to Dunn’s in the way they’re displayed. Not as close as Parker’s could be considered. That being said, I know Dunn is trying to claim that he invented these techniques. The nucleus of the issue is how similar they are in terms of order and how these pages are displayed. Some I can chock-up to standard practice, while others seem more coincidental.
If there’s one thing I’m adamant about, it’s that I think that Dunn should’ve messaged Parker first before making the accusation public. Some try to dispute that this would've made it easier for Dunn to be “silenced”, whatever that means; but that sounds a bit conspiratorial to me. Ideally, you confront him about it in private, if he makes any threats or blows you off, get your lawyer on the phone and then make the video. Not only is it the more civil thing to do - but it’s the smarter thing to do. This is a serious legal matter, not just internet drama. While I’m sure Dunn had no intention of tearing Parker down or getting a mob onto him, that’s unfortunately what’s happened. A backlash both from the general artisan community and several companies. Wherein it was left to Parker himself to make this an official legal matter. If Parker’s found not guilty, then this could easily leave the gate open for him to sue Dunn for damages, loss of revenue, defamation of character or whatever else, should he see fit. As could the publishers, given how this affected their sales. Companies responded to the accusation of the video alone, before an investigation could be launched. Sure, it wouldn't be “acting the bigger man” but he’d be well within his right to do it. Dunn showed that Jake has mentioned him before, shown admiration for his career and referenced him in other posts. If it comes to light in court, that Dunn is even cited as an inspiration or source in the book itself, then it’s case closed.
Then there’s the other possibility that Parker might not have done this on his own, but that he has a team behind the book. If that’s the case, the most I can accuse Parker of is being a hack. I worry Dunn has kneecapped himself for just how badly he’s handled this situation. Made worse by him not having an actual physical copy to assess and just had footage of preview pages to go on. So far, the circumstances don’t seem on his favour.
I don’t think ill of Dunn. I do think he believes he’s been wronged and no malice in his intentions. I just think he’s made some critical errors on how to handled this. As for Parker himself, I couldn't give a donkey’s doo-dah about him. I’m sure you could accuse me of playing devil’s advocate earlier, but to me, he was the guy who released the annual prompt list. If it really does turn out that he’s a plagiarist and had malicious intent, then fuck ‘im. I never regarded him as an inspiration of mine or paid much attention to him outside of that. It was the community that made Inktober what it is. I’ve never met Parker. Maybe he’s a cool guy? Maybe he’s a bellend? I don’t know.
Granted this isn't the first time Parker has proved himself to be a controversial figure: - Last year people were upset about him trademarking (not copywriting, as many have erroneously claimed) the word “Inktober” and some artists were stopped from selling their related work or zines. Parker would issue a statement: claiming the takedowns were a mistake of “overzealous lawyers” and it’s just a matter of the logo being trademarked. People can sell their Inktober works and even mention they are Inktober-related. Just not use the official logo. On the one hand, from a business standpoint, I get it. It’s the bare minimum you need to do to protect your IP, especially when you have a store. BUT, like most people, I don’t like how, what’s intended as a community challenge, has slowly become more of a brand associated with one man. Hardly a surprise it left a bad taste in so many people’s mouths. But, since it doesn't actually effect anyone’s ability to take part in the challenge, outside of personal principle, I went ahead with it the previous year.
 - The year before, when asked if one can do Inktober digitally, Parker said the following:
Tumblr media
I know some are still bitter about that, but speaking as someone who inks traditionally and digitally, this came across as needless whinging and blowing things out of proportion. Claiming that Jake had derided digital artists and said they were invalid etc etc. Take it from me, challenging yourself to try out different methods to ink traditionally can greatly improve the work you do digitally. It’s like how learning traditional fundamentals of art can still be applied to digital. Plus he never said “No.” he just gave valid reasons about how it makes it a different experience. That said, if you’re someone who can’t afford any kind of inking equipment or pens and only have a selected application to draw on - then none of this applies to you. Just the aforementioned few who took it upon themselves to get angry over nothing. Recently I’ve heard from subscribers of his newsletter that he’s now embraced the idea of people doing inktober digitally, to the point of selling digital brushes for inktober. I’m sure some will call this “backsliding” or “money grubbing” because people aren’t allowed to change their minds or update their statements.
Tumblr media
For weeks I’ve been torn on what to do, not being able to solidify one stance over another. One minute I thought #JusticeForAlphonsoDunn then I wonder “Wait maybe I should look again?” to “But wait, those are way too similar!” Having splinters in my arse from sitting on the fence for so long. The longer this went on, however, I began to realise that I can’t take one stance over another. This case is far too muddy and complicated. I don’t have enough sufficient knowledge or evidence. Nor do any of you. We literally only have Dunn’s video to go on. While it’s a good start, it’s not enough to be taken 100% as gospel when it’s the only thing to hand.
As previously mentioned, a lot of artists have decided to not take part in Inktober at all, or follow different prompt lists. That’s completely fine. A lot of them are based around a specific theme: halloween, kinky stuff, bears, transformers, OCs, Disney or whatever. That has massive appeal. I just can’d do it myself. I prefer the focus on random words, rather than all centred on a single subject; allowing me to be creative with my ideas and execution. I actually did try to make a list of my own random words. Problem is, I worried that because I was choosing my own, I might be subconsciously bias towards certain prompts and not truly challenging myself. Even narrowing down my options was taking too long. In the end…. I’ve decided to just do the official prompts again this year.
For me, that’s what it ultimately came down to. TIME. It’s the middle of September. I can’t afford to wait for the court case to be settled. No other prominent artists I respect have released their own prompt lists. I know there’s been some shitty people who are condemning this choice. Attacking others, accusing them of supporting plagiarism, looking to block anyone who does the official prompts. Even trying to make this a racial issue. Just…. no.
If someone doesn’t want to take part in Inktober, that’s fine. If someone wants to do the official prompts, that’s fine. If someone wants to do their own prompts, that’s fine.
Don’t go around aggressively making snap judgements or accusing people of taking a side. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. This has been a shit year, let people enjoy something.
If you look at this situation and it makes you feel angry, and you don’t feel comfortable in taking part in a challenge because of it’s creator. I get that, I literally get that. It’s why I haven't done Mermay. And please don’t mention Pinktober, I’m aware of it, but given his insta video on the subject and the things he said, I quickly came to the conclusion that I can’t take this person seriously. I’m sure this might make me seem hypocritical, but how this differs, if only for me, is the sheer amount Inktober means to me. It’s more than a simple challenge. Inktober's the one thing I’ve been most excited about all year. As it was ruined for me in 2019, when I lost my home and I didn't get to complete every prompt. (Long story, I’m okay now). As we all know, 2020, has been an AWFUL year. We’ve got to take whatever joy we can. As I’ve looked longer at the official prompts, I found ideas I’m really excited for.
Once I started to really dedicate myself to it, it became a massive event. I hype myself up as I prepare for the busy month. Buy in supplies, clean the house and workspace, cook and freeze meals in bulk to save time, printing off a sheet that allows me to jot down ideas as I plan ahead.  Then once it’s done, after so much work, it makes the reward all the sweeter: Ordering a takeaway, celebrating a great halloween night and still rocking those vibes throughout November. Feeling proud of myself for doing it and seeing myself improve my technique, discipline and earning a few lie-ins to make up for the sleep I lost working. I’m like a kid waiting for Christmas. That said, don’t think that there’s something wrong with you when you understandably can’t dedicate that amount time for a simple art challenge. If anything that’s plenty of reason to why you’re smarter than me. You have a life and don’t push yourself too much.
Now, I need to crack on with the preparations. If you want to boycott Jake Parker, just not buying any of his products should be enough. Doing the inktober challenge doesn't bring attention to him, as I doubt most people even know him as the creator, nor does it even line his pockets. I just hate how cancel culture can do such serious damage like this and then try and put pressure on others to act accordingly without even doing any research themselves.
As long as you’re not harassing anybody. Just do what YOU want to do. That’s fine.
“We all have wings, but they have not been of any avail to us and if we could tear them off, we would do so.”  Franz Kafka
It was a quote you knew by heart. After all, it was sitting neatly framed on your desk. It was a graduation gift, but you don’t remember from who. Years of schooling behind you, you were finally an expert in your field. Animal locomotion, volant insects- it was all the same to you. Creatures with wings were your life and passion. As you looked at the mounted glass boxes that held a variety of pinned butterflies that lined the walls of your office, you were brought out of your daze by a familiar ringing.
You sighed, picking up the telephone, wrapping the old cord around your finger as you awaited the greeting at the other end.
“Hello, is this Dr. L/N?”
“Midoriya?”
The familiar voice brought a smile to your face. Izuku Midoriya was you best friend, the both of you working towards doctorate in animal studies. You specialized in wings, he specialized in secrets. More specifically, mythical creatures, a secret that zoologists and the government held from the public as to keep chaos from ensuing.
“Ah Y/N! Yes, it's me! How are you?”
“Good, how-”
“I’m fine, thank you, I just- I need your help.”
“Oh? Is there a situation?”
“Well, yes and no... we’ve been told there’s been a spike in livestock and animals going missing, along with carcasses being found at an alarming rate. So, we’ve been conducting research and taking in recent sightings into consideration. We think there's a vampire in the Aokigahara forest.”
“A vampire? Midoriya you know that’s your expertise not mine. I know nothing about vampires, isn't there anyone else that can help you? I wouldn’t be of any use-”
“No no Y/N, you don’t understand. This vampire, it-it has wings.”
The line went silent, the ringing of the tone slowly becoming too much to bare.
“Are you sure-”
“We have photos, they're not great, but we’re certain its him.”
“Him?”
“It's a guess, but yes, a him.”
Another deafening pause.
“Do you have a plan?”
“Yes actually!”
The sudden confidence transmitted from Midoriya’s end of the phone made you chuckle.
“We’d like you to camp out in the woods, film what you can for us as well as observe anything you find or witness.”
“Midoriya, that sounds really dangerous, this is a vampire, right? I’m not baiting myself for science-”
“I promise it's not like that! You’d always have a walkie talkie running the entire time and have contact with me and the team. Nothing will happen to you, I promise.”
“Promise?”
“Promise. And besides, you’d get to keep his wings.”
That caught your attention. Like a puppy, your ears perked up at the magic w-word.
“Really?”
“Once we complete the research, we’d have to put him in captivity, and we’re not taking any chances on letting him escape, so we’ll extract them and give them to you.”
You bit your lip, imagining whatever possible large pair of wings could adorn your walls next.
“I’m in.”
“YOU’RE THE BEST!”
You laughed as Midoriya cheered on the other line. Research and new discoveries always made him bounce with glee, and despite not being able to physically see him, you knew he was bouncing around his office like a baby bunny learning to leap.
“When do we start?”
“Huh? Oh, do you think you could come to the northwest research building tomorrow? I’ll pay for your bus ticket and everything.”
“No no, it’s fine, I can make it over by noon.”
“Perfect! I’ll see you then!”
Before you could say goodbye, Midoriya hung up the phone, probably dashing around his office to prepare as much as he could for the upcoming events.
You chuckled and sighed, putting the phone down. You were going to be in the woods for God knows how long studying a vampire that could potentially kill you and suck you dry- all for a pair of wings.
You later received a text from Midoriya instructing you to pack a bag with at least a months' worth of clothing and your own personal items. He said that his team would bring all the other needs- food, water purifier, stationary and a walkie talkie. You would be set for the entire month to study the elusive winged vampire. All that was left now was go to Aokigahara. But nothing could have prepared you for what was to come in the next month.
As you trekked the hills of the Aokigahara forest that faithful day, all you could think of was the words Midoriya had said to you that morning.
“Our hope is that you actually meet him?”
“Meet him? The vampire? Midoriya you are trying to get me killed, aren’t you!”
“But the best research is done when you’re close to the primary source!”
You heaved a sigh and wiped the beads of sweat falling down your forehead with the back of your palm. You were entering the forest with the faux appearance an overwhelmed camper, seeking solace in the forest through self-reflection and meditation. Thus, everything had to look realistic, as to not make the vampire subject suspicious. The immense weight of the hiking backpack resting on your shoulders was unbearable, but you knew you still had to go further into the forest. You had to find the perfect spot. And finally, after several more exhausting hours, there it was.
The lake.
You beamed at the crystal-like water, ripping softly from the wind. Without hesitation, you dropped your backpack and began to set up camp. You had a fairly large tent, a cot and sleeping bag, and all your items, plus the ones promised by Midoriya’s team. Once you were happy with the setup of your tent, you deemed it was time to bathe. You were drenched in sweat and your muscles ached and you wanted nothing more than to engulf yourself in the lake’s cool waters.
Once you rid yourself of your sticky clothes, you stepped into the water, sighing happily. You soon submerged your whole body in the water, humming as you scrubbed the grime off your skin. The sky above was shifting from pink to orange, the sun quickly beginning to set. You could see the outline of the moon too.
“Pretty isn’t it?”
You jumped at the unexpected voice, quickly covering what you could of your naked body. You looked around anxiously, fearful of who or what had been watching you. You narrowed your eyes at a tree looming over the water, a figure seated on one of its branches. You clung to your chest tightly as the branch shook, the figure hopping off with ease.
Infront of you stood a blonde-haired man, incredibly fit, which was easy to see since he was shirtless. It seemed his only clothes appeared to be a pair of dirtied linen pants and a pair of poots. But that’s not what caught your attention- no, it was the enormous pair of bright crimson wings that stemmed from his back. They were breathtaking.
He chuckled lowly at your frozen stance.
“I meant the moon.”
You nodded slowly.
“O-oh,” was all you managed to say as it occurred to you that that man, creature, vampire, would be your subject of research for the next month.
His brows furrowed as he looked down at your toiletry bag that sat on the shore.
“Shit, is that soap?”
“Uh, yeah?”
What was happening? He was so normal? So calm? Were you not in his territory, invading his space? Or was he being kind, as to not scare off his next meal?
“I haven’t been able to use soap in a while. My parents visit me sometimes and bring me soap and shit, but they haven't in a while...can I use yours?”
Parents. He had a family. Did they have wings too? No, he was exiled, his wings made him an outlier. He was alone.
“Uh, yeah...” you mumbled, shyly gesturing to the toiletry bag with your chin. The man beamed and dug through your bag.
“Holy shit, you have hair soap too? Fancy,” he purred. Hair soap- did he mean shampoo?
You watched curiously as he tossed out item from your bag and set them on the shore. You found your cheeks burning with heat as you looked away while he undressed. You looked down at the water, ripples appearing as he stepped into the lake. You gulped and peered over your shoulder.
“What's your name?” You asked shyly.
“Keigo, you?”
You blinked at his unexpected friendliness.
“Y/N.”
He gave you a nodded before picking up one of the bottles he placed in the water that began to float away.
“So, which hair soap do I use first?”
“Uh, the one that says shampoo.”
Keigo looked down at the floating bottles before him.
“I can’t read,” He mumbled.
You gaped, he must’ve been exiled at a young age, with neither of his parents willing to take the time to educate him.
You stepped towards him carefully, we’ll aware of the danger he could pose. You picked up the shampoo bottle and handed it to him.
“Here, use this one first.”
He grinned, two large fangs appearing. It was obvious they caught you off guard, since he began to laugh.
“Scared of my fangs but not my wings? Interesting.”
You scoffed as he poured the shampoo in his palm.
“I’m not scared.”
“Right,” He chuckled, before putting the shampoo in his hair. Which he did a terrible job at, since it all began to drip down his face and into his eyes. “Ah fuck- this shit stings! Are you trying to poison me?”
You laughed and covered your mouth.
This was the dangerous vampire Midoriya had summoned you to research? He seemed helpless, and frankly a bit pathetic.
“Well it’s just for your hair, not your eyes.”
Keigo growled and plunged his face in the water, washing the shampoo out of his eyes. He flung his head back up and shook the water off, similarly to a dog. You winced at the water droplets that hit you.
“Do you- do you want help?”
Keigo raised a brow and crossed his arms over his chest.
“Why are you here?”
You froze, not expecting the question.
“Uh well, I needed a break from work. Just time to be alone and meditate, you know?”
“No, I wouldn’t know,” He frowned. You bit your lip and looked down.
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you-”
You were caught off by his laugh once more.
“You’re fine Y/N, it’ll take more than that to offend me. Besides,” He said, a sharp taloned hand wrapping around your neck and pulling you close, “I could kill you if you ever did.”
He smirked, feeling you gulp in fear against his palm. You stood still in his grasp as leaned close into your ear.
“So, you’ll help me with the hair soap?”
✁✁✁
In the following weeks, you developed an unexpected closeness to Keigo. He hung around your tent day and night, occasionally leaving when he got hungry. In those moments alone, you updated Midoriya and wrote in your journal. By the end of the second week, you found yourself realizing how close you had truly gotten to the vampire when he finally let you shave off his rugged beard.
“Look at you!” You beamed, holding his face in your hand. He rolled his eyes and swiftly scooped you up, walking you both out of the water.
He set you down gently and handed you your towel. He on the other hand, used his wings and flapped himself dry, fluffy feathers flying everywhere. You wrapped the towel around your body and smiled up at him, trying to cover up the sinking feeling in your chest. You were beginning to see Keigo as a person rather than a specimen. And when the month ended, he’d be transported to a facility and have his wings clipped and handed to you on a silver platter for decoration. You shook the thoughts away and flashed Keigo another smile.
“Its getting late.”
He nodded and slipped on his pants, which he now also allowed you to wash. You bit your lip.
“Where do you sleep Keigo?”
He adjusted his waistband and looked to you.
“A treehouse.”
Your eyes widened.
“Really? Why haven’t you told me?”
He chuckled and ruffled your hair with taloned hand.
“Didn’t think it mattered. Wanna check it out?”
You nodded eagerly and scrambled to put your clothes on.
Keigo rolled his eyes and extended his hand out to you, which you took once you were dressed. He picked you up and cradled you in his harms before taking to the skies, protecting you from the branches above with his wings. This moment was your paradise, seeing his wings in action. You looked at the trees below you, looking miniature as you glided through the air. The air was thin yet crisp, you couldn’t help but give Keigo a grin.
He soon swooped down and gently landed on the ground, helping you to your feet.
“Keigo that was so cool!” You beamed up at him, jumping up and giving him a thankful hug. He blushed and hugged back, not expecting the affectionate contact. You looked up at the large well-built tree house that sat in the tree. With ease, Keigo helped you climb up the tree and inside his home.
Your eyes widened at the sight. The home was scattered with crimson feathers, blankets, pillows, and old blood stains on the wood.
“So uh, this is where I sleep,” He said gesturing to the nest-like pile of plush. You nodded and looked up at him.
“This is really cool Keigo, thanks for showing me!”
He grinned proudly at his home, despite its emptiness, you understood the sense of coziness it held.
He looked down at you and seemed to contemplate his next words.
“Would you, uh, like to stay here with me tonight?”
You looked up at him curiously.
“Promise not to kill me?”
He chuckled and nodded.
“Yes, I promise.”
“Then yes.”
It was already nighttime and you and Keigo had already eaten. All that was left was to rest. Keigo turned on the lamp and stepped into his “nest”, you follow his lead. You step into the softness of his fluffy nest and sink into it. As if by instinct, Keigo wraps you in his arms and pulls you to his chest, your breath hitching when you feel the warmth emitting from it. His wings wrapped around the both of you tightly in a secure fashion. You looked up at the silent blonde.
“Keigo?”
He hummed in response.
“Why haven’t you killed me?”
Keigo scrunched up his face at the question.
“I’m not a killer Y/N, I don’t kill humans.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I just- you’re a- and you know,” you trailed off.
Keigo stayed silent, his large hands pressed against your back as he helped you. After what seemed like eternity he spoke.
“Y/N?”
“Hm?”
“What does love feel like?”
You smiled softly and looked up at him, his eyes peering down at you under his long eyelashes.
“Well, love is when you really care about someone, and would do anything for them and you always want to be around them and-”
“Then I love you.”
Your mouth gaped at the confession.
“Keigo-”
“Everything you said, I feel it for you.”
You gave him a weak smile and ran your fingers through his hair. A familiar story came to mind: Samson and Delilah. Samon loved Delilah so intensely he let her shave his head and take away his strength, leaving him weak. You found yourself in the same position, using Keigo’s love to let you clip his wings to give to the Philistines, well, in this case Midoriya.
“I love you too Keigo.”
His face broke out in a wide smile, but he had no clue what to do next. He had never been in this position before.
You chuckled softly and gently stroked his cheek, “Do you want to kiss me?”
He nodded, a shy blush creeping onto his cheeks. You giggled lightly before snuggling closer to him and pressing a soft kiss against his lips, feeling him melt at the touch.
You really did love him.
And you remembered it every day.
You remembered him every day.
You remembered the angry cusses he spewed at you when you watch him get captured by Midoriya’s team.
You remembered his screams of agony as you watched him wake up from his surgery, only to realize his wings were gone.
You remembered his sulking, deteriorating body when you visited him, only to learn he hadn’t eaten in days.
And you remembered your heart breaking when you woke up at 2am to a phone call from Midoriya to learn that Keigo had died.
As you stared at the crimson wings propped up on your office wall, you couldn’t help but curse yourself. Were a pair of wings worth learning that a vampire with wings had the capacity to love?
lucid dreams | prologue
Obi-Wan Kenobi X Reader [Soulmate AU]
synopsis: Dreaming has become a meeting place for two people destined for each other. They say you see everything related to your soulmate in your dreams, including your soulmate. Surely meeting someone you’re destined to be with wouldn’t be difficult, right? Wrong. For you, it’s impossible. Sometimes you think your dreams are mere compensations for not having a soulmate.
They say, when you reach the age of 20, you see everything related to your soulmate in your dreams, including your soulmate. These dreams last for an hour and after that hour, you see nothing but darkness. You’ve seen him, but you never got to talk to him, let alone gone near him. You learned (in a complicated way) that you only see each other when both parties are asleep. In every dream you have with him, the both of you always stood far from each other. He was always covered in thick brown robes which struck your curiosity even more, because you couldn’t really make out his features other than his auburn hair and beard.
Your dreams were often filled with odd looking spaceships, planets that do not exist, and weird, alien creatures, none of which made sense. This made you wonder if your soulmate was an astronaut working for NASA. Perhaps he was a scientist studying extraterrestrial life, maybe he was just one of those people who believe in aliens and lizard people, or maybe he was a big nerd. God, what have you gotten yourself into?
You kept track of these dreams. Just like what you’re doing right now, right after you woke up. “Flying cars, city-filled planet, aliens, laser swords, people in cloaks, books with alien language,” you mumbled while jotting them down on your dream journal. “Same as always.” Like everyday, you wished for something to be different. “When will I ever get to meet Mister Soulmate, Vincent?” You crouched down to pet the black and white feline. He meowed. “I know, I know. Breakfast first.” Vincent meows again.
After getting breakfast for the cat, you grabbed a change of clothes and rode your bike to the cafe with Vincent in the little front basket of your bike. You were meeting up with a friend for coffee. She called you the night before, greeting you with obvious excitement and glee, telling you that she has something to tell you and that it would be better to talk about it in person than over the phone. If you knew anything, she probably met her soulmate already. Not just dream-met them, but outside-of-dreamland-met.
She was sitting outside the cafe, two drinks already on the table. “Hey,” you greeted. You took a seat in front of her. “Aww, you brought Vinnie?” She coos, picking up the cat from your basket. “He can’t be left alone in my apartment anymore. Last time I did, he scratched the shit out of the curtains you gifted me.” She gasped, “Bad, Vincent!” She placed the cat on her lap, scratching his head. “Come to think of it, I’m glad he did that.” You joke. She sent you a glare.“So... what’s up?”
“We finally met up, y/n.” Your friend smiled wide. “And I’m not talking about meeting her in my dream, you already know I have.” Bingpot! Just as you suspected. “Remember when I told you that my parents told me the ‘dream-meeting’ stops once you meet your soulmate and you just get random dreams? How’d you meet?” You took a sip of your drink. She nodded, “It really does. Which is why we stalled for a bit. And also, you know, because we both wanted to focus on college. She’s so much more lovely in person.” You have never seen her this happy. Her eyes were sparkling. “If only mine would talk,” you grumble. “Wait, wait, wait. You have never talked to Mister Cloaked Man?” You shake you head. “You dummy,” she laughs at you then raised a brow. “You wasted five years of your life not talking to your soulmate who was right in front of you every night?! Why?” In all honestly, you have, but...
You tell her he always looked uninterested. That he seemed guarded and closed off. He only looked at you from a distance. “Ah, yeah, I remember. Maybe he’s an introvert, a busy introvert. It’s perfect, you always thought he might be a scientist.” She replied, adding, “you should be the one to break the ice between you two.” You consider her statement with a nod and a final sip from your cup. “It’s been nice seeing you.” She says it more to the cat than to you. You just laugh. “You, too. Work’s been eating you up lately.” Your friend works for the papers, and you’re an artist currently working on several new pieces for your gallery. So... you both were busy.
Later that night, you decided to take her advice. You were the one to spark up a conversation. And so, you hop in your bed with Vincent on the other side of the mustard colored duvet covering your body. Sleep slowly taking you in.
Moments later, a blur of lights started to become clear. The empty void of dreamland slowly fills up with flying automobiles, aliens, and laser swords, like Time Square. Where are you? You thought. You glance at your surroundings once more. Books were floating in midair. “So, you’re reading, huh?” You spoke softly. “Then that means you won’t be showing up for a while.”
You waited patiently for a brown cloak to appear in front of you. “Do you not sleep?” You muttered under your breath. You wandered around dreamland, admiring a floating glass with a city behind it. “City-planet,” an amazed sigh escaped your lips, taking it all in. Unbeknownst to you, he stood a few feet behind you. “It’s called Coruscant,” he said. His voice was smooth, like silk. You like him already. You turned around to face this man. He was wearing his infamous brown cloak. “Hello there.”
Nishinoya x Kiyoko’s Adopted Brother!Reader: Realization TW: internalized homophobia if you squint, mean noya Summary: Nishinoya despises you for being so perfect, and you want to know why he hates you. The truth comes out, albeit not the truth that Nishinoya wanted A/N: the adopted part isn’t central to the story but i didn't want anyone to feel like they couldn’t read it bc they don’t look like kiyoko. and uhhh i’m not super proud of this BUT NOYA IS DEFINITELY LIKE GAY OR SMTH THAT MAN ISNT STRAIGHT my gay ass refuses to believe he’s straight
Tumblr media
“Goodnight, guys.” You said, waving enthusiastically as you and Kiyoko walked off toward your home. The team bids the two of you goodbye before going their separate ways.
Noya and Tanka were walking together, making idle chat before they would eventually go split up. The streetlight bounced off their tired forms as they grew closer to their destination.
“I’m kinda glad our practices are taking up more time this year. It’s nice to see (Y/N) after school. Lunch is never enough time around that dude.” Tanka said, out of the blue while the two of them talked about your sister. Noya blushed, thankful for the low streetlight.
“Yeah.” Noya mumbled.
“He’s hilarious too! I mean, it’s almost mean how much (Y/N) teases Hinata. Luckily Hinata’s got great spirit and is too gullable to take things seriously.” Tanka said.
“Uh huh.”
“You good man? Why are you sluggish?” Tanka asked. Noya shook his head and rubbed his face.
“I’m just... tired. All that studying for exams is killing me.” Noya lied. Tanka smiled and hit Noya on the back.
“Don’t I know it. Get some rest tonight. Can’t have our guardian sleeping on the job.” Tanka said. Noya smiled.
“In your dreams.” Noya said. Tanka shivered.
“More like my nightmares, ugh.” Tanka said.
Despite Tanka’s pleas for sleep, Noya found himself wide awake as the moon slowly made her way across the sky. His mind kept drifting back to you or, more accurately, the way you made him feel.
Noya hated you. He hated your damn smile, your infectious laughter, your humorous jokes, your kindness. Hell, Noya could probably write a textbook on all your faults.
If he had to pick one thing he hated the most about you, it would be your arrogance. You must have gotten love confessions from every girl in the school, minus your sister. Yet, you turned them all down. If Noya were in your shoes, he would never break all those hearts like that.
It irked Noya. No one ever loved him like that, but everyone loved you. Everyone wanted to eat lunch with you, go on dates, or just be your friend. Sometimes, Noya felt like Tanka liked you better than he liked Noya.
Even Noya found himself getting lost in your eyes a couple of times. You were enchanting, and Noya hated that about you.
-*-
You were sitting against the wall, doing homework as you waited for Kiyoko to finish up volleyball practice. Your club always finished before hers, and you refused to let her walk home alone in the dark. On more busy practices, you would help the team. Today was more relaxed, though, in order to let the boys recover a bit from yesterday.
There was one last question in your English packet to answer. You started to write the answer, when you heard Dachi yell, “(Y/N)!! LOOK OUT!!”
You quickly slid against the wall and onto the floor before registering where the ball was. It bounced right above your head and ricocheted onto your stomach. You let out a small groan, thankful that most of the ball’s power and speed hit the wall instead of your head. Kiyoko was already at your side.
“Are you okay?” She asked, looking you over for any bruises. Other than your neck hurting from sliding down at such a weird angle, you were fine. You sat back up.
“Yeah, thanks to Dachi.” You said. You sent a smile to the captain, who was scolding Noya for being so reckless. You frowned and handed the ball to Kiyoko.
“Ah, maybe I should move somewhere else?” You said. “Perhaps even sitting outside until I finish my work.” Kiyoko gave you a gentle smile.
“Only if you want too.” She said. “Practice is almost over, anyway.” You shrugged, deciding to stay in your spot.
The rest of practice went accident free. You helped the boys clean up the gym, eager to get home. Hopefully, a warm shower would ease the pain in your neck. If not, ice should do the trick.
But Kiyoko had to stay and talk some things over with the Coach while the boys went to get changed. You opted to lean against the wall and scroll through your phone as the two conversed outside of the gym.
“Yeah, I noticed that too. I think if it was a real game-” Coach Ukai started, but was cut off by the gym door opening. The janitor was there with a jacket in his hand.
“I’m assuming this is one of your boys’?” He said. Kiyoko took it from him, showing the coach the volleyball club detailing on the back.
“It is. Sorry about that. Won’t happen again.” Coach Ukai said. The janitor nodded and went back into the gym. Kiyoko turned to you.
“I think someone is still in the clubroom. Would you mind seeing who is still here? I would go, but I’m not allowed in the boys’ club room.” Kiyoko said. You took it from her and nodded.
You checked the tag of the jacket, hoping to see a name. You found none, but you noticed it was a small size. That meant that it was either Hinata’s or Nishinoya’s. You hoped it was the former, since Hinata actually liked you.
You knew Nishinoya didn’t like you, but you weren’t sure why. He didn’t hide his emotions as well as he might have thought he did. You caught the sneers and the frowns. You wondered if he didn’t like you since you told him and Tanaka off one day after they flirted with Kiyoko. But Tanaka liked you.
It didn’t bother you that Nishinoya didn’t like you. You knew you couldn’t please everyone, but it was uncomfortable to be around him. Which sucked, since you two shared a lot of friends. What really hurt was how he was with others.
Nishinoya seemed like the most genuine person you knew. He always spoke up about what was on his mind and make sure everyone knew it. It was an attractive quality of his, yet he never offered it to you. His double nature made distrust him, unsure why he was so cold around you.
You opened the door to the clubroom and, to your dismay, Nishinoya was looking around for his jacket. His head whipped to see who entered, a bright smile plastered on his face. It dropped when he saw you.
The heavy door shut behind you, which felt suffocating. You almost got hit by Nishinoya today and he hadn’t apologized or even attempted to smooth things over. That was probably the worst part; he hadn’t shown you the decency to at least make some sort of effort. At least he didn’t blame you, or you hoped he didn’t to be more accurate.
“I think this is yours. You left it in the gym.” You said, holding out the jacket. Nishinoya snatched it from your hands. He slipped it on and turned to his bag. You frowned and crossed your arms.
“‘Thanks, (Y/N).’ No problem, Nishinoya. By the way, Coach might say something to you. ‘Thanks for the heads up, (Y/N).’ You’re welcome, Nishinoya.” You said aloud. Nishinoya turned back and gave you a pointed stare. “You’ve been rude to me all day! Don’t give me that look.”
“Me? What the hell did I do?” Nishinoya asked, his voice raising.
“First of all, you practically ignored all day, again, in school and practice. Then, you almost hit me with a volleyball, which I get it was an accident, but you didn’t apologize or make an effort. And now you’re ignoring me again after I came up here to give you your jacket. I have no idea what your issue is with me, but if you keep this up, I’ll give you a reason to hate me.” You said. Nishinoya turned away with a huff.
“I don’t hate you, alright?” He said, standing up. “Now, could you move? I’m trying to leave.” You leaned against the door, blocking his way out. He frowned and mirrored you by crossing his arms.
“What’s your deal with me, anyway?” You asked. “I’m not moving until you tell me.”
“I don’t have a problem with you! Can you please just move?” He asked. That was probably the first time he had said please to you.
You crossed your legs in response as if you were getting comfortable in your spot. Nishinoya gripped your arm and tried to push you. His strength caught you off guard, causing you to grab his arm to catch yourself from falling. The awkward angle and tangled limbs somehow found Nishinoya’s back against the door while your arms boxed him in, your faces inches apart.
Nishinoya’s breathing got shallow as his cheeks started to dust with pink. Butterflies swarmed in his stomach, and all he wanted to do was punch the breathless look on your face. Thoughts of violence vanished when his eyes caught sight of your lips for a second.
You, however, didn’t feel any of this energy. You felt angry and upset. This close, however, you were able to catch his gaze on your lips. It was brief, but you saw it. Instantly, the lights when on in your head.
“I know why you’re always so rude to me.” Your voice hushed, causing shivers to run up Nishinoya’s back. He had been so rude for so long that you were getting a kick out of his eager expression. For once, it felt good to be on the other side. “You like me.”
Nishinoya’s hands went up to your shoulders. He gave you a harsh shove that sent you to the floor. You weren’t quick enough to catch yourself, landing on your back. You hissed in pain as your back came in contact with the hard floor, some of the air leaving your lungs.
Nishinoya’s eyes widened while his hands shook. “I’m not gay!” He shouted, before opening the door and running away quickly.
You groaned, sitting up. You lightly slapped your head. “Fuck, I really messed that up.”
~*~
For the rest of the week, Nishinoya refused to meet your eyes and would make an excuse anytime you were near. You felt a twinge of guilt every time he left or refused to meet your eyes.
Maybe you had gotten it wrong, but the way he looked at you in that moment, the way his eyes dared to linger, the way his breath hitched ever so slightly made you sure he was gay and he liked you. You had definitely come on too strong, though. You were embarrassed and eager to make amends.
You were coming up with an apologize when the bell ring, signaling that class was over. You were slow to move, exhausted after staying late with the team. You spotted Nishinoya’s own sluggish movements as he slowly gathered his things.
You looked around the classroom, noticing it was empty. It was now or never.
You walked over and stood in front of Nishinoya’s desk. He refused to look up at you, making your stomach twist in anxiety. You bent down.
“Nishinoya, I’m really sorry. I crossed a boundary I shouldn’t have and I... I just got really excited to know there was another gay person in my friend group, ya know? Anyway, I totally deserve the cold shoulder. You don’t even have to forgive me, but I want you to know that I’m sorry and I’m aware I crossed a line.” You said, pausing to see if he would respond. Instead, he stayed perfectly still. You felt your heart twist. You stood up and started to walk towards the door when he spoke up.
“I’m sorry. I treat you like shit and you’ve never once gotten angry. You’ve always been kind and understanding. I also hurt you, which was uncalled for.” You turned to face him and smiled. He was bent over, like you were before.
“I guess we’re both dicks, huh?” You said. Nishinoya smiled despite himself. He looked up at you, smiling at one of your jokes for the first time.
“I guess so... but I have to tell you something.” Nishinoya stood up and took a deep breath. “I’ve been thinking about what you said and... you’re right. I hate that you’re right, but you’re right. I’m... gay. I mean, it was so obvious I didn’t want to believe it. When you said it, I got so angry because I knew it was true. I was also upset that you noticed. I didn’t want anyone to know, but here I am telling you, who’s basically a stranger. I mean, I never learned anything about you and here I am, coming out to you.”
“I’m proud of you. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them. I understand where you’re coming from. If Kiyoko didn’t help me through it, I think I would’ve reacted the same way.” You said. Nishinoya blinked in shock.
“Oh...! Wait, is she-“
“You didn’t notice that she’s a lesbian?” You asked, eyes wide. Nishinoya seems to shrink away. You burst out into laughter.
“It’s not funny!”
“It’s soooo funny! You acted like you had the biggest crush on her, yet you didn’t know she was gay! Ohmygosh!” You said in between laughter. Despite himself, Nishinoya laughed with you.
Once you composed yourself, you nodded to the door.
“Hey, you’re gonna be late to practice if you don’t hurry up, ya know?” You said. Nishinoya felt a small blush cross his cheeks.
“Yeah. Um, there’s just one thing. I’m really sorry for how I treated you. I never made an effort to try to be nice to you so... would you let me make it up to you?” Nishinoya said. You tilted your head.
“You don’t have to. I totally understand-“
“I want to take you out on a date!” He blurts out. You smile.
“Yeah?” He nods. “Alright then. What were you thinking?” He opens and closes his mouth.
“I didn’t think I’d get that far.” You let out a small laugh.
“It’s okay. Why don’t we start small and get a bite to eat after practice?” You ask.
“What about Kiyoko? You always take her home.” Noya says. You nod.
“It’s okay. She and Yachi are going to the bus stop together.” He smiles at you.
“Okay. Okay then! It’s a date.”
An Atypical Ficlet Collection: 1/?
——————————————
Izzie knocks on the door. As she waits for it to open, she lets out a ragged breath. She puts her shaking hand back in her hoodie’s pocket. She’s a bit surprised when the door opens to reveal Sam. Her phone is dead, and she didn’t have a chance to charge it, so she couldn’t let Casey know she was coming. Still, she was hoping for the girl to open the door. Or figured more likely it would be Elsa, who had offered her a safe space whenever she needed it. Like right now. “Hey, Sam,” she says, managing a smile.
“You look weird,” he says, tilting his head a little.
Izzie laughs lightly. She had been crying on her way over, she can imagine how messy she looks. “Yeah, rough day,” she replies, honestly.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Sam says, in his usual even tone voice. Then adds, “Casey isn’t here.”
“Oh,” Izzie starts, a heavy wave of loneliness washing through her.
But before she can say bye to Sam, he cuts her off, “I’m watching a documentary. It’s called Antartica Edge: 70 Degrees South. Do you want to watch it?”
Izzie is silent for a second, surprised at the invitation but grateful for it. She smiles and nods. They enter the living room and sit down. Sam is immediately focused on the television. “Do you want snacks? My mom made her famous banana bread,” he says as he grabs the tray and moves it in her direction, eyes still on the images in front of them.
“Sure,” she says and grabs one, biting it.
“Mmm,” she says, through a mouthful. “These are really good.”
“That’s why they’re famous,” he says.
Izzie nods and continues to munch on her banana bread. Sam makes comments here and there in between the narration.
Towards the end if the documentary, Sam looks at the tray holding the banana bread and sees that there’s only one piece left. He wants to eat it but he knows Izzie isn’t feeling well. The banana bread seemed to help. But she hasn’t reached for it. Maybe she’s full. “There’s only one piece left,” he states.
Izzie didn’t want to be rude and eat the last piece, but they were pretty tasty. “Do you wanna split it?” She asks.
Sam smiles at her and nods. Izzie lets him cut it and takes her half when he offers it. She settles deeper into the couch. The documentary is about to end. She doesn’t want to leave yet but Casey hasn’t returned from wherever she is. The house seems to be empty except for Sam. When the documentary comes to a close Izzie says, “That was interesting and very depressing.”
“Yes, it was,” Sam responds, bothered by the subject matter the film, which was released five years ago, was bringing light to and had only gotten worse.
Izzie looks down at her hands, mustering up the courage to leave. “It made you sad,” Sam says, looking at her.
Izzie looks up at him and smiles. “No. Well, yeah kinda. But no, it’s not that,” she says.
“What is it then?”
Izzie is quiet for a beat, then says, “My mom’s boyfriend was yelling and throwing things again. My mom....” she trails off, looking back down at her hands, fighting back tears. She looks back up and, not wanting to get into the painful details of the incident, says, “I had to take my siblings to my grandma's.”
She’s looks past him and is quiet for a moment. Then she says, “It’s hard sometimes, seeing their faces after something goes down with mom. Seeing how scared and hurt they are. Sometimes that’s the worst part.”
She’s glad her youngest sister is only a baby, too young to know or understand. But her other siblings are old enough to feel it. She still feels it. She might like to pretend like her mother’s rejection, her neglect, don’t cut deep but they still pain her. Seeing that pain reflected so clearly in her siblings’ face is too much at times. So on occasion, especially since meeting Casey, she leaves after dropping them off at their grandma’s. It’s best for them anyway, she thinks. The place is so cramped, with her gone they have more room. And they don't have to witness her sad, angry tears. Still, she feels guilty at times, when she leaves. Like maybe she isn’t any better and she's abandoning them just like their mom. Just like their dad. Izzie wipes a stray tear with the back of her hand. Sam gets up and then comes back with a box of tissues, which he offers to Izzie. “Julia always said it’s good to express your feelings,” he says, inviting her to cry and not hold back.
But Izzie isn’t used to being that vulnerable in front of others. So while another tear manages to roll its way down, she doesn’t allow herself to cry. “Thank you,” she says, patting her face with the tissue.
Sam reaches over for his trusty notebook and pencil, which are sitting on the coffee table, and starts writing. “What are you writing?” Izzie asks.
“A list of things that make me feel better when I’m upset,” he says, matter-of-factly. “We can do each one until you feel better.”
Izzie smiles, instantly feeling her mood improve.
———————————————————
“You know, this actually feels good,” Izzie’s voice comes through the closed door.
“Yeah, duh,” Sam says, with a light snicker, thinking of all the studies that indicate being swaddled decreases anxiety levels and releases serotonin.
Casey stands in front of her bedroom, her lips curve upward and her brow furrows as she hears the voices of her girlfriend and brother through the door. She grips the knob and opens the door, wondering what she’s about to walk in on, and isnt prepared for what she finds. She can only see Izzie’s face, the rest of her is hidden in her hoodie and blankets. Sam is bent over, pushing the blankets tightly under Izzie. “What the...?” Casey says.
Both Sam and Izzie turn to look at her. Izzies face brightens. She thinks of one of the bullet points on Sam’s list.
“Should I be concerned?” Casey asks looking at the pair, amused.
“Yes,” Sam answers, straightening up. “Izzie is upset.”
Izzie looks up at Sam then Casey. “But I’m feeling much better, thanks to Sam.”
He looks down at her, smiles and nods. Then he turns back to Casey, looking satisfied with himself. He’s happy to have successfully cheered Izzie up.
Casey runs toward the bed and pounces. She lands next to Izzie, causing her to bounce. “Good,” Sam says. “Now that you’re here we can cross another item off the list.”
“Huh?” Casey asks, looking up at him.
“I made a list. Things that help make me feel better to help make Izzie feel better. Now that you’re here I can cross off ‘talking with Casey’,” he explains.
Casey smiles up at him, trying to keep herself from beaming. Then rememebring, she says, “Oh, Elsa was looking for you. I’d suggest running far, far away.”
Izzie laughs and Sam sighs. Casey wonders if it’s at her or their mother. Sam leaves without a word. He closes the door but soon opens it and leaves it ajar, remembering Casey isn’t allowed to have her door closed when she’s alone with Izzie. Casey rolls her eyes then turns back to Izzie and kisses her. “Hello,” she says, after pulling away.
“Hello,” Izzie responds, smiling.
Then she narrows her eyes at Casey when her face turns into one of mischief. As soon as Casey lifts up from the elbow she had been leaning on, she knows what’s coming. “No!” She yells, as Casey gets on her knees and starts tickling Izzie through the fabric.
Izzie laughs but manages to yell, “Stop it! Stop! You’re dead, Newton.”
At this, Casey stops and plops down back on the bed. “Spare my life,” she says. “And I’ll pay you back with kisses.”
Izzie looks away, pretending to consider it. “Okay, I accept. Pay up.”
Casey kisses Izzie again but they are soon interrupted by Sam. Looking at Izzie -who is now in the shape of a loose burrito- he asks, “Elsa wants to know if you’re staying the night or for dinner.”
“She is,” Casey answers. “Both.”
Sam looks at Izzie for confirmation. Izzie nods and he leaves to rely the information. Ever since Casey and her started dating she isn’t allowed to sleep in Casey’s room, but it’s still nice to have a place to stay where she’s wanted and has room for her. Besides, it wouldn’t be the first time Casey and her sneak around in the middle of the night.
IZUKU
Tumblr media
You and Deku were having a quick study session in his room, him quizzing you on hero terms as you racked your brain to remember the definitions
Your phone suddenly buzzed- making him jump: he was so focused on just you, and how adorable you looked when you were concentrating hard, and the fact he had a girl in his room-kinda startled him out of his over reactive thoughts
You gave him a swift sorry, laughing softly because it was literally written on his face that he was freaked out by the sound, making him blush- he loved your laugh so much
The instant you read the message on your phone, your face just dropped in horror
“Hey I know this is a shitty thing to do but I think we need to break up”
You kept staring at the screen, feeling the world around you crumple- what did you even do? Why was he breaking up with you so suddenly?
Your hand was covered around your mouth, trying to choke back the tears
“Y/n…..y/n!” Izuku asked in a panic, freaking out inside- what happened to you to change your demeanor that fast
 “Are you okay? What’s wrong? Please talk to me!”
“He...he...he broke up with me, Izuku,” you sniffled, the tears flowing down your cheeks
Izuku stared at you, completely stunned and full of anger. He was just disgusted he wouldn’t even give you the decency to do it in person, let alone just leave you confused on why.
 how could your boyfriend do that to you! You were so kind, and sweet, and so lovable....in his eyes, you were the most perfectly imperfect person and he had fallen for you hard.
 “I dont even know what I did-” you cried in confusion, “Did I do something wrong? I-”
He immediately wrapped you in a hug, his warm embrace making you feel more vulnerable (which is good- feelings are valid and Broccoli Boi will take care of u!)
“This isn’t your fault y/n-none of this is. You’re amazing just as you are-he just cant seem to see that.”
BAKUGO
Tumblr media
OH HELL NO BAKUGO GONNA KILL SOMEONE
You and Bakugo were having a sparring session when your phone went off
“You cant turn that damn thing off?” Bakugo grunted out, hating that your attention was being taken away from him
“Sorry Katsu, gotta answer- its my boyfriend,” you smiled, downing a gulpful of water before your answered the phone
All Bakugo did was grunt in distaste- he hated your boyfriend! He found him so annoying
all he ever did was take up his time with you-it seemed like whenever Bakugo wanted to hang out, he was there, ruining the moment
or even worse- you would go out and hang out with your dumb boyfriend instead of him
He always denied having any feelings for you, but he noticed now he couldnt seem to help it- he found you attractive, physically and personalty wise, but also- you dealt with his crap. He knew he was a hand full, but you still kept him in check and were even brave enough to mess around with him, even if he did yell at you.
 He just didnt like how much control you had over him, making him flustered and blushing like a damn school girl- and the fact that you didnt even know you had this secret power drove him crazy
“Wait-youre breaking up with me?” you asked in disbelief, your eyes prickling with tears
Did he just hear what he thought he heard? Bakugo picked up his head so quick hearing your voice break, as if your whole body was just crumpling. He had to admit, he was kinda happy to hear it- now he’d finally have his chance to ask you out! But hearing you sound so defeated made his heart race faster and the anger erupt in his chest. How dare he make you feel that way!
Bakugo stomped towards you, snatching your phone out of your hands
“I dont know what your deal is, you asshole, but y/n is one of the most amazing people I know, so dont you ever call her number again unless you want your ass blown out of the damn country!”
TODOROKI
Tumblr media
Todoroki was sitting on the couch,drinking tea and reading a book
He had found one of your notebooks left on the floor, and he of course, instantly wanted to give it back to you
Unknowing to him, you were currently up in your room, Facetiming your boyfriend
Shouto didnt really care for your boyfriend- and for the longest time he couldnt understand why he didnt like him
but then he realized some things- whenever he was around you, he would get blushy and extremely quiet and just seemed incapable of acting normal. He found you attractive and exceptionally kind, catching himself staring at you whenever he could and feeling strange about it, causing a soft blush to form on his pale skin
 Thats when he realized he didnt like your boyfriend because he liked you, and he despised the fact that someone had already taken your heart
He knocked on your door, hearing the voices on the other side get more and more frustrated
He heard a slight sob come out of your mouth, and he instantly got panicked
What was wrong?
He knocked on the door again, unsure of what to do- does he barge in there? Does he leave you alone? Does he wait?
In mid knock, you opened the door, your eyes puffy and red
“Y/n-are you alright?” he asked, his face in complete shock and confusion
You shook your head, unable to talk due to the heavy sometimes growing inside you
“Its okay, Shouto,” you practically whispered, “just this isnt the best time-”
He placed a hand on your shoulder, looking at you with those deep, mismatched eyes that made you shiver- they were so easy to get lost in
“Please, y/n, tell me whats wrong.”
He hated seeing you upset- it made him upset, and he wanted to know who did this to you. He wasn't one to act out irrationally, but when it came to you, he would do anything to protect you.
“Its- its my boyfriend. He’s breaking up with me-”
“Hey y/n, where you at?” he heard from the phone, registering the voice as your boyfriend. Immediately, fury formed in his stomach-if he could see him right now- he would have to do everything in his power to hold his powers back from obliterating your boyfriend-
 he strided over, picking up the phone, meeting the shocked eyes of your boyfriend, expecting you to come on the screen
“Please refrain from ever calling y/n again- you make her upset and you clearly cannot understand how much of a wonderful person she truly is. If you ever come to try and hurt her again, I wont hesitate to make sure you dont ever do this to her again.”
KIRISHIMA
Tumblr media
Kirishima was walking out of his room, the rest of the class outside as he was the last one to change out of his PE uniform and into his lounge clothes
“Kirishima!”
He turned around, hearing your cry
Confusion was written on his face- you were running up to him, desperate to reach him
Your face was strewn with tears, sobs crying out of your mouth as you called out his name again
“Kirishima!”
Those sobs were destroying him- what was wrong? Who hurt you? Why were you so upset- he had never seen you like this!
He had had the biggest crush on you for the longest time, and seeing you sad made him just wanted to fix everything and make you feel better, because when you were upset, he couldnt help but feel upset too!
You wrapped your arms around him, your chest colliding with his as you sobbed onto your best friend
He instantly shielded you in a warm hug, combing your hair with his palm, letting you get all your emotions out
“Hey-” he asked softly, gently raising you chin with the tips of your fingers, “what’s the matter?”
You sniffled, your face splotchy and pink, “My boyfriend-he-he-broke up with me.”
Kirishima clenched his jaw, feeling anger bubble in his stomach. So that’s the reason your so heartbroken, over that idiot? He was completely dumbfounded on why he would ever break up with you- how could someone ever just reject his amazing y/n?
He wrapped you in a hug again, placing a firm kiss on top your head
“Your okay y/n, dont worry about him. Your an amazing person and he just cant seem to see that. I got you, I promise.”
