Hi jo! Fluff dialogue prompt: “I feel safe with you.” and “where's my goodnight kiss?” With zukka, please :)
It’s written all over Zuko’s face. Maybe not to someone who doesn’t have as much history with him, but to Sokka it’s clear as day. The bags under his eyes slightly more pronounced than usual, the worried crease in his forehead, the tightness in his smiles and posture...
If he had known, he wouldn't have spent the first two hours of the party avoiding Zuko. As soon as they make eye contact, though, Sokka's feet take him to Zuko without hesitation.
“Zuko,” Sokka frowns, and his resolve almost crumbles at the way Zuko wilts just slightly. They're in a large room in the palace that they only use for gatherings like this, and Zuko looks around quickly before grabbing Sokka by the elbow and leading him closer to the wall to give them a little bit of privacy.
“I didn’t want to worry you,” Zuko says quietly.
Sokka shakes off his hand. “Fuck that. When was it?”
Zuko sighs, looking around again. “Two weeks ago.”
"Zuko—" Sokka starts again.
“I would rather tell you in person. Besides, it’s safer that way.”
Sokka knows he’s right, and he’s glad he’s here now, but he’s not happy with it. He doesn't get to dwell on that now, though. With Zuko’s back to the rest of the room, he’s letting down the mask of a perfectly happy and healthy Fire Lord, and Sokka has a feeling this assassination attempt was really bad.
“It was close, Sokka. Too close,” Zuko says, reading his mind, and he looks scared like Sokka hasn’t seen him in a long time. Fear freezes his chest, but he pushes it down, the familiar urge to always be the strong one rising up instead.
“Can we get out of here?” Sokka asks, suddenly anxious that they are in such a crowded place. He glances around and finally notices the extra security, most of them disguised, but it doesn’t help his nerves much.
Zuko nods, looking grateful, and Sokka doesn’t leave his side as he goes to talk to a guard, who nods. It’s not the smartest idea, the two of them leaving such a crowded party side by side. It’s sure to rekindle a rumor or twelve, but Zuko doesn't seem bothered by it for once, so Sokka allows himself this considering it's taking everything in him to resist giving into the urge to hold Zuko’s hand.
They’re met by more security in the hallway, following them all the way to Zuko’s rooms. Sokka doesn’t recognize them, but Zuko must trust them to see them together and to stand guard outside his rooms once they make it there. There’s not a question about it, Sokka follows him inside and closes the door behind them.
Zuko’s hands are shaking, and when he turns to Sokka in the privacy of his room, he immediately rushes into his arms. Sokka holds him tightly, reassuring himself that Zuko is okay, that he’s alive.
"I almost—"
“You didn’t,” Sokka says firmly. “You’re okay. Do you want to talk about it?"
"Not right now. I just want you to stay,” Zuko says softly. “I feel safe with you.”
Sokka nods immediately. “Of course.”
When they pull back, Sokka realizes how exhausted Zuko looks. He can barely keep his eyes open as he pulls out his head piece, and Sokka wonders how much sleep he's gotten in the last two weeks. Wordlessly, they agree that Zuko just needs to rest, and Sokka sits down on the bed and pointedly turns away as Zuko changes out of his stuffy Fire Lord robes, fingers twitching with the desire to help him. He doesn't, and when Zuko is done he sits down next to Sokka, keeping some distance between them.
"Thank you for being here," Zuko says softly.
"Of course," Sokka says, giving him a tight smile. "I'm always here for you. Zuko, I-"
Sokka nearly jumps out of his skin when the tension is broken by a nearby thud, but Zuko just grabs his hand. "It's just Druk," he reassures him.
It's just my ten foot dragon isn't as comforting as Zuko thinks it is, but Sokka doesn't say anything, just moves out of the way as the dragon crawls out from where he had apparently curled up under the giant bed.
"He's been sleeping in here since the attempt," Zuko explains, looking slightly sheepish. "I'll just..."
He stands, leading Druk to another door in the room, because knowing Zuko, Druk has his own personal suite for occasions like this when there are guests in the palace. Before closing the door, though, Zuko pets the top of the dragon's head and leans down to kiss the top of it, saying, "Goodnight, Druk."
When he turns back to Sokka, the two of them actually alone this time, Sokka blames the fondness in his chest for the words that slip out of his mouth. “Where’s my goodnight kiss?”
At the weighted look that Zuko gives him, he processes what he just said. He doesn’t take it back, though. He doesn’t say anything, just watches as Zuko walks up to him, stepping between Sokka’s legs and forcing Sokka to tilt his head up to maintain the intense eye contact. He moves slowly, giving Sokka every opportunity to stop him.
Sokka doesn’t, his eyes falling shut as Zuko's lips finally meet his.

not a comment on a r/fatuiHQ meme of all things making me finally notice that childe activating FL all the way back in the golden house cutscene actually summons those black hole/collapsing star imagery things (looking Exactly like the narwhal boss drop at a specific frame too) behind him if u look at it closely at the right frame😭😭😭
(peak subreddit btw.)
i mean its not Completely new for a motif his teleporting in the 4.2 opera cutscene is a much more clear example of the same exact visual effect but. Dang i never slowed the 1.1 cutscene down enough to see it for myself there before
what a cool detail and reccurring motif there! now let me lose my mind and credibility for a bit Thanks
(actual nonsense warning lmao its just cool black hole sfx but gone downhill)
(a Completely unrelated compilation here Surely. yes the narwhals spout attack thingy is less Obviously the same visual but its a pretty picture of my beloved. sue me. also its close enough 2 me)
anyway isnt it Curious how all these effects are ummmm black holes. like there are stars visibly collapsing here uwu. and black holes are. Collapsed dead stars. wouldnt it be funny if the narwhal boss drop archive entry somehow directly implies that the eye of maelstrom (a black hole) could simply be the echo of its prey. Which are. Yaknow. sometimes stars. for a cosmic whale. so an echo of its prey is an echo of a dead star. crazy ik. if anything like that existed i mean
oh JEEPERS. next thing youll tell me stars are archons forbid often used as a sort of allegory and very prevalent reference to some sort of an important category of people. like a descender or something. crazy ik (2: Electric boogaloo)
WHAT!!!! (and like 4 billion other examples i couldnt bother to gather and sc sorry)
and like. sure sure lets not get too crazy we need to remember skirks usage of this same power as well thats a good point. i should remain skeptical of my own insanity thats very true. we all get a sticker for responsible behavior UwU
so she indeed turned the narwhal into a black hole there yes. She Did That. so maybe its just the power from beyond thing. its void power its quantum but genshin. the black hole/collapsing star stuff is all surtalogis power okay lets consider that for arguments sake. well i guess that means its just surtalogis brand of transcendent abyss power and not about black holes slash dead stars that may or may not be dead descenders. thats fine
Whew i guess thats it then we solved it guys. okay i can accept that. its abyss power because surtalogi things and childe and the narwhal displaying it is all because of surtalogis plots and teachings and powers. something like that
and even if that may be a bit anticlimactic of a conclusion for a narwhalpilled truther like myself (with a penchant towards Theres Some Descender Shit Going On With Ajax antics as well) at the very least its good that there isnt any datamined book series in which some particularly pygmy-esque individuals Strangely fitting of our current descriptions and knowledge of of dain + the sinners band together to merk some guy from beyond teyvat with special powers that may or may not be the irminsul-proofed historical account of a particular descenders death so nothing like THAT can throw a wrench into our very confirmed conclusion of surtalogis power and by extension childe and maybe even the narwhals black hole motifs just being basic abyss element power that has absolutely Nothing to do with any descenders or... dead stars? yeah its a good thing nothing like that exists .
OH SH----

🖊️ tell me about liliana!! i think she's really cool :]
ok <3 yay
Can I be SO for real with you. u think she's cool because she is. I try to make her a girlfailure sometimes, it never takes. at her core she is just kind of cool.
She's laser-focused on Revenge to the detriment of everything else. When she gets it it's under circumstances that are less than ideal but at the end of the day she's still like yeah. this is what I wanted. She's simultaneously living in Kane's shadow and also superseding him and also neither one of those because Nadia took it from her. She's good at what she does- consistent and experienced and good at planning- but she's also messy with it- dismissive of others and tunnelvisioned and bad at thinking on her feet (hooves? lmao). She's both good at manipulating people (short-term) and easy to manipulate (long-term). She's genuine to the point of detriment. She carries herself non-formally and trusts people at default, but doesn't know when to make the switch to rescinding that. With strangers it's easy. Anyone else, it's trickier.
She's defined by rage in a calculating manner, it's not quick and cathartic but rather painfully slow, this steady trod towards a goal. There's a nonzero chance she'd be much better off without it, but she's nothing if not persistent. Liliana grabs hold of things and doesn't let go- she does this for people as much as ideals. She isn't... aware of it... but she's constantly on the edge of unsteady, just feeling like anything she has could disappear in a moment but not knowing how to prevent it, or if it's even possible. She leaves clawmarks in everything, she's terrified of being alone. And yet she still chases this revenge that comes before all the people in her life- it's not exactly a balanced mix. Some people are loyal like love, Liliana is loyal like a war.

:3 How about Lark, Grant, and Henry for the character bingo!
Bababird!!! Hiiiiiii 🥰🥰🥰 And yes ma'am right away ma'am o7
Lark Oak-Garcia problematic babygirl of the century <333 What is to be said about him that hasn't already been said. Genuinely I thought about circling "I could fix them" AND "I could make them worse" and then realized that I was being delusional and nobody could fix that man (aside from maybe Sparrow or even less possibly Normal. Maybe. Possibly). Personally I am of the opinion that Lark is the one of the most bisexual demiromantic people in existence and I truly do love that for him <3 But even more so do I love traumatizing him further with my mind! I just think he should get to experience the abject terror of losing someone dear to him once in awhile. I need him shaking and crying immediately thank you very much 😌😌😌 He's soooooo interesting to me fr
Next up: Grant Wilson! My beloved! I want to give him the world's biggest hug effective immediately please and thank you. Early s1 Grant reminded me a bit of myself growing up and there's just this certain Itch that his character scratches that is hard to explain but that I'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else! And seeing how his relationship is with Link in s2 makes me SO very very sad I just. Augh. Something about the Wilsons and the lack of communicating what they're truly feeling and the cycle of violence and self-hatred and Unfeeling and *keels over and weeps* Also. Gatorade baptism is perhaps the FUNNIEST ex-Catholic parenting move I have ever heard of (despite the Greater Implications that also make me very emo) and I just. Idk I think about that a lot. Questionable yet iconic move on the part of the Li-Wilsons, very slay <3
Annnnnnd the soon-to-be birthday boy to round out our list!!! I love Henry Oak SO much, okay. He's like a father and also a brother and also a son to me, despite how little sense that makes. He can be a little self-righteous and he can be a little sillay and I truly do love both of those things for him. Also his unconscious desire to create an environment so unlike his own restrictive upbringing that overrode his amnesia and caused a complete 180 in his own parenting style vs. that of his parents,,, not sure I worded that right but it's something I think about a lot and get very emo over. Additionally, he just has such a tendency to put all the blame on himself - a trait Lark seems to have inherited perhaps without even fully recognizing it, oddly enough - and that just makes me so, so, so deeply sad. He just has such an ingrained inability to cut himself some slack and. Ough. Augh. What if I weep forever actually! Anyway. Onto happier things. Probably lmao.
Thank you so much for the ask!!! Sorry this took a bit, but I hope these answers suffice, Babushka 🖤🖤🖤
