I did get to see the statue that Crowley has in his flat over the summer at Hearst Castle!! This is just a replica but I was still freaking out nonetheless. I was getting weird looks from the group when I was trying to take this low quality picture. I wish I could’ve gotten closer to it! I don’t think they’re wrestling.

Charlie Chaplin at the Hearst Castle, San Simeon California, 1933. He was invited there quite often.
This is where William Randolph Hearst (newspaper magnate) and Marion Davies lived as a couple openly. While Hearst was married and wife would never give him divorce they lived separately and he and Marion maintained a long time relationship till his death in 1951, she followed 10 years later.

Upon my anniversary date I wanted to show you guys one of the coolest places I have ever been to. This is Hearst Castle, the Neptune Pool that inspired that crucial scene of the film. When I left for the trip It was a surprise and I wasn’t instructed where I was going. I lamented not having brought a copy of The Great Gatsby for the trip. I did some rummaging at the most whimsical roadside bookshop and historic Henry Miller Library when I laid eyes on it. Tucked between volumes of other romances, I found her. I won’t give you a synopsis because let’s face it-you’ve read it. Instead I’ll tell you something personal, I fell in love with my best friend, I sometimes call J. But we were too young and too broke to focus on that romance. I left town and he made his way through his own way in the world and built an empire. I kept him saved secretly in my phone as Jay Gatz. We didn’t speak. Hoping to one day return and find him staring at the green light at the end of the dock still holding that torch and space for me. Spoiler, he did. As did I. We reconnected and it’s been a happy ending ever since. Still, moments like these…coincidences that don’t seem coincidental at all…mystify me.
