this is a pretty long post , something we don't usually do , but i want to talk about this

so along with the canine muzzle we've mentioned before , lately , i've been noticing other things related to canines , and i think i can actually specify wolves at this point

we've mindlessly been saving random wolf images for months now , and recently , i've noticed a theme with them , the way they look . all of them are mostly black with touches of white/grey fur (some example pics below) , also usually on snow , but i don't think that's related specifically to wolves

now , seeing wolves , or really any other animals/creatures that are completely black , possibly with white eyes , will always feel like us , but the fact that theres a clear theme here for wolves that look a specific way that isn't pitch black makes me question shit

another thing that recently happened was that we found one of those keychain tails online and immediately felt the need to have it , so we wasted no time ordering it . after that , we decided to look at other similar tails , even completely black or completely white ones , but none of them seemed to pull us in like that one we ordered .

this specific tail seems special , which is somewhat strange because looking at the pictures of those wolves , the fur color seems to match , but none of their tails have a white tip

while i am very excited to get it , i do hope wearing it will help us figure out more about this . it might feel good and right to wear it , or it might not make us feel anything at all

now the thing is , even with all of these things i've mentioned , i still dont feel at all like a wolf or any sort of canine . i feel a connection to these wolf pictures , a connection to the tail , and experience a phantom wolf muzzle . i see myself in those images , but i don't feel wolf-like or canine-like at all

taking the form of something is one thing , but having a physical form of something and being that thing is different . this seems to be somewhere in between ?

if anyone has any idea of what this could be , i'd appreciate any help or thoughts you're willing to share because i am very confused

What does someone mean when they say “I kin that character?”

Types and attributes of connections to fictional characters

The verb form of kin (to kin, kinning, etc) has become popular as a colloquial and nonspecific word that people sometimes use to describe a variety of different types of connections they may have to fiction characters. 

Because “kin” has become such a casual, nonspecific verb that can refer to many different things, it can be hard to tell just what kind of actual connection a person who says “I kin that character” means that they have. Therefore, it's best not to make an assumption about what type of connection to a character someone means when they say that they “kin” them.

Below is a list of more detailed and specific terminology for types of connections to fictional characters that a person might be casually referring to when they say that they “kin” a character.

🔸 Face claim: This is the most casual type of voluntary connection someone might be referring to when they say they “kin” someone. “Face claim” refers to any time you make the decision to deliberately portray yourself as a fictional character in a casual way, for instance, using their face for your icons, or asking people to refer to you as the character’s name. This is a casual, for fun association because you like the character and want to be thought of as them. Think of it like putting on a mask or a costume, and then hanging around in it. There is nothing wrong with having faceclaims, however this type of connection is also sometimes referred to as “kin for fun” when talking about someone who doesn’t understand the serious distinction between a face claim and a kintype.

🔸Comfort Character: A comfort character is a character that you are attached to, who brings you joy, comfort, or peace to think about and spend time with their media. A comfort character is like a favorite teddy bear, or doll that you play with, but instead of a physical toy, it's the concept of a particular fictional character.

Attributes: voluntary or involuntary, for fun or serious, for mental health, play, casual or intense, psychological, not a self-identity, does not involve plurality

🔸Fictional Other: (also written as F/O) A fictional other is any character that you consider yourself to be in a romantic relationship with. This relationship can be more serious, or more for fun depending on the individual. Some people have Fictional Others who are also soulbonds or other fictives, but most are not, and are closer to a specific type of comfort character. A person who has a fictional other or multiple fictional others is called a “self shipper”.

Attributes: voluntary,  casual or intense, for fun or serious, psychological or spiritual, not a self-identity, sometimes involves plurality

🔸Copinglink: A copinglink is a serious personal identity as a specific fictional character or member of a fictional species established and maintained deliberately for the purpose of personal mental health, self improvement or self-esteem. A person intentionally considers themselves to literally psychologically be and exist as their copinglink character for the purpose of coping with trauma or other negative emotions. The way this identity is expressed is similar to a kintype, but is voluntary rather than involuntary.

Attributes: voluntary, intense, serious, psychological, for mental health, self-identity, does not involve plurality

🔸Hearttype: A character that you identify strongly with, but do not identify as. A character you feel like you have a lot internally, emotionally, psychologically, or situationally with. A character you intensely feel personal commonality of some kind with. 

Attributes: intense, voluntary or involuntary, serious or casual, psychological or spiritual, not a self-identity, does not involve plurality

🔸Fictive: Any member of a type of plural system who identifies as/believes themselves to be/shares a personal identity with a specific character.

Attributes: intense, voluntary or involuntary, serious, part of a plural identity, psychological or spiritual

🔸Fictional Introject: A fictive member specifically of a DID (dissociative identity disorder) based system.

Attributes: intense, involuntary, serious, part of a plural identity, psychological, mental health related

🔸Soulbond: A specific type of spiritually oriented fictive, believed to involve a metaphysical and emotional bond between the soulbonder and the soulbond. 

Attributes: intense, voluntary or involuntary, serious, spiritual, can be part of a plural identity 

🔸Kintype (general): A kintype is an involuntary, deeply rooted core self-identity, typically questioned deduced through self-reflection. A serious personal identity that you have discovered yourself to be in some way. You literally are, or share this identity with the character. That’s you in some real and meaningful way, whether spiritually or psychologically.

Every Bird is our Hearttype: Being Collectively Birdhearted

We've always been very attached to birds. I don't remember how we started wanting a bird so bad, but we remember begging our mother for a budgie for years as a kid. We got one, and after that we got a pair of cockatiels (one of which we still have, he's 11 or 12 now).

We always loved them to bits. Over the years we've gotten a few more pets, rescued some other birds from various circumstances and talked about anything bird related almost non-stop to people we get close enough with. All of this to the point where people have a bird question or problem and they know to ask us, even if we're only a friend of a friend to that person. We've had teachers in schools we never met before ask if we're "the bird one" after they get our name. It's always been birds.

So it makes sense that we have an attachment to birds that could be described as a hearttype. We've had occasional phantom wing shifts as well as the feeling of talons of various configurations and thin bird legs overlaying our own human ones--plus other types of shifts--for as long as we can remember. But are there specifics? Exclusions? Birds we can't relate to or can't seem to like? Well... Not that we've found.

Every. Single. Bird. All of them. Every new species of bird we see, no matter how weird looking or mean or how gross their habits are--we love them on sight. It's like the joy of opening a gift on Christmas morning to find the thing you wanted most, except in our case it's likely a bird people hardly hear of like a Dracula Parrot or a Kakapo.

This extends to fictional birds as well. Pokemon, phoenixes, bird fursonas, gryphons, those ones with four wings from Lethal Company, random fantasy birds that might not even have a named species--anything remotely bird shaped and it's a win. Even including some dinosaurs and dragons. Quetzalcoatlus? Win! Dragons with a bit of feather fluff like Flight Rising Skydancers? Close enough! Some random thing with a bird-like beak? You bet we love it!

We would literally click through a list of every known bird species on Earth if we had the time to sit down and do it. Just for fun. We love those things. Every time a person we follow shares a picture of a new bird we've never seen before it's basically like they just gave us the gift of pure, unfiltered joy for the next hour or so.

At this point, it's really only logical that if we haven't found an end yet, then for now we can just assume there isn't one. Everyone in our system experiences this the same way, so we say we're collectively birdhearted and leave it at that. Some of us identify as specific birds or a few are bird cladotherians, but generally? We're not every bird. Most of us aren't birds. We've just found ourselves inseperable from them. But.. because the list of birds that fit the feeling is too long to include in any bio anymore, we just use the term birdhearted. And really? At this point it'd just be a list of birds we know of.

My House: Identity Metaphor

My house stands in a somewhat isolated spot, close to nature. It’s not too short or tall, looks a bit wide, bulky and uneven in places. The walls are normally a very pale, off-white color, but nowadays they look a bit more tan. The roof tiles used to be really light/pale yellow, but are now more dirty. The windows are made of glass that’s tinted blue with hints of a grayish-yellowish green. The current frames are thick, black with some blue patterns, but they’ll get changed to thinner black and silver soon. /physical appearance/

There are 3 entrances to the house. The main one out front is for close friends and family and is almost always open. If it isn’t, there’s a sign out and those who would come through there know to knock gently and ask if it’s okay to come in or if I want to talk, if it’s like that. The side entrance is for extended family, other friends and acquaintances. This one’s usually locked and people need to knock to be let in. Sometimes the door will only open slightly or stay closed, and people will have to talk through it. /relationships/

The back door is for potential partners. It’s a bit of a tricky one, it can be anywhere from locked, to slightly open to open wide and anything in between or even disappear completely. It can sometimes open up suddenly or slam closed out of nowhere or swing back and forth. It’s mostly guys who are welcome to come through this door, tho occasionally it opens for girls folks outside the binary too. It also doesn’t automatically close after one person has come in. Those who come through are welcome to go anywhere, save from my bedroom or the bathroom while I’m bathing. /romantic orientation and sexuality/

My bedroom, as well as the kitchen, living room and bathroom are always there, but there are other rooms that come and go. Two of them are there most of the time: one that used to be really girly, but now has more of a mixed boyish/girly vibe and one that has a sort of eclectic vibe that’s neither really boyish or girly. Sometimes, these two disappear and others appear, usually one at a time. /main gender labels/

One’s a planetarium room full of projectors that show different segments of space. One’s decorated to make you feel like you’re underwater. One’s a small meditation room. One is full of various instruments. One is sky themed. One is black with glow in the dark stars and constellations and a single bright light in the middle. One is actually just an empty forest that goes on and on. One is filled with all sorts of magic and the last one can lead to various magical/mystical spots in nature. /Xenogenders/

Those who enter this house fall under my protection and I can feel my wings spread out to shield them from harm. Inside the house, I can feel all the energy flowing through me. I keep my collections in there and protect them fiercely. I can sit by the fireplace and watch the flames dance, immerse in the pool, feel the breeze dance around and caress the stone walls. I can feel my ears be more pointed and marvel at the forest plants growing out of the walls. Sometimes I can go through the walls or swirl in the pool feeling my tail. At night I can feel the energy of the Moon and stars seeping through the walls. Sometimes I get the urge to go to the kitchen and sink my teeth into something juicy and suck it dry. /Otherkin/

I’m not alone in my house, there’s cats and dogs who come and go. We can rub against each other, lay in the sun, play, roll, climb, scratch, dig, meow, hiss, purr, bark, growl. And in those moments, I can feel my teeth, my claws, my ears, my tail, just happily move around. /Therian/

There’s other animals too, who don’t come inside the house. The birds who fly above. I watch them through the windows and wish I could fly with them, but know it’s not my place. The horses running around or grazing peacefully. I sometimes go pet them or ride them if they let me, because that’s the closest I can get to running with them. The wolves who howl at night. I smile knowing they’re out there and doing well and in my thoughts I howl back to acknowledge I’m still there too. The woodland creatures who come and go: deer leaping, rabbits jumping, squirrels climbing, hedgehogs and foxes trotting about. I say hi, wave or make eye contact and we all acknowledge the other. The sea creatures I spot in the nearby waters. I watch them swim around and if I’m in the water I twirl and gently move the water around, to show that I mean no harm. /Otherhearted/

This is my house. It’s beautiful and warm and friendly, but it’s also hard being there sometimes. I feel like I have to hide most of it from others, even tho I love every bit of it so much. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to let others see it all.

I had contemplated a hearttype being potentially a kardiatype, and today I'm thinking about it again, it might be more likely to remain a hearttype that's a past life (if it were) than to be called a kardiatype. I have a kardiatype, and the feelings I have about it is different than my hearttype, which, while being potentially a past life, is not the **structure** of who I am as a whole. What do you think? As the one who coined Kardiatype/Empeiríatype

Well, firstly I think whatever feels more correct to you should be the term you use.

Secondly, yes. This difference you describe is kind of the reason I couned the term in the first place. So it would probably make more sense to not call this other hearttype also a kardiatype.
