Heavenly Sword's Grand Saga (3-B)

Given there were a lot of nice panels in this part of the manhwa, I will use this extra-post to give a debrief of the plot and the character's reason for losing weight, so that it makes a bit more sense.

... Well actually it doesn't make much sense, but that might interest you into seeing the original piece.

You see, the person whose body you see here is actually... very probably dead. And the character we follow hijacked this body and now uses it as his own. I'll explain.

This is the very typical plot common of many Korean works of "I find myself in the body of someone else", mixed here with the also very common plot of "I am back into the past". Our protagonist and hero of the tale comes from the future - a bad future of chaos, war, famine, slaughters and other disasters. His spirit was sent into the past in order for him to eliminate the one who caused the world to become a living hell, a mysterious antagonist only known as the Servant of Chaos. In order to be able to defeat it, the protagonist as trained by the harshest and most insane, but also most talented, martial artists and expert swordsmen of his time, until he became a perfect killing machine and one of the strongest warriors in the world.

The only thing that hadn't been planned was the fact that, while he could use a magic ritual to go back in time - he ended up in a body absolutely ill-fitted for the job. In this case the body of a young aristocratic man (18 years old and the only son of a local regional lord) who was so spoiled and pampered he was massively obese with not an ounce of muscle in his body. This was of course a source of brutal and intense frustration for the protagonist, as he still had his intensive training, had knowledge of the most secret martial art techniques, and could kill almost any men on the spot if he wanted - but couldn't use his immense skills thanks to his useless and dangerously sick body.

This is why the first part of the manhwa is about him regaining a body that would fit his actual abilities and capacities, by undergoing harsh training to lose weight and build enough muscle. All the while hiding from everybody else his true knowledge of martial arts and his true levels of brutal fighting powers - so as to not blow the fact that he isn't the "Young Master" everybody knows and cherished, but a perfect stranger from the future who stole his body and his life.

There's also a whole thing, once he is passed the shock of his new body, where he actually has a true "cultural conflict" with the past, since everything in this time is much more peaceful, normal and idyllic, and him coming from a time of horrors and cruelty means he has a hard time adapting - he is notably quite in shock when he learns the city his "father" takes care of isn't poor enough to have beggars in it. And when he finally warms up to the fact that people are actually nice and that he leaves in a time of happiness, peace and abundance now, he considers maybe actually staying there once his mission is finished and enjoying his new "fat cat" existence, so to speak.

There are people in the world that thinks they are the ‘chosen’ of the heavens. It’s been decades since chaos and strife among heroes ensued because of those people. A certain disciple who has six masters has been entrusted with the fate of the central plains. “If you guys are the heavens, then I’m the sword that’ll pierce the heavens.” That was what he’d resolved to do… No one mentioned he was a fatty, though! In any case, now that he’s here, he’ll need to save the… world… Damn it, lose some weight first.

JULY

Trying to return to reading stuff on the apps daily has failed rather miserably

and keeping up online serialized chapter releases continues to be a mess. For some I've by now given up, as I buy them anyway...

This month started with Tearmoon Empire and I was thinking surely this month was gonna become the Tearmoon-month, but then... distractions happened

By the end of the month, it consisted pretty much just of last minute JNC catchup readings... which actually have proven I can still read fairly fast, but organizing those readings is a mess beyond description.

Notes:

Tearmoon Empire v1-4 - I really thought at the beginning this month was just simply going to be a Teamoon month than then this whole post could just be summarized with a 'Sweet Moons!" – Btw, those moon expressions really are nice. I kinda want to adopt them, but then Mia is Mia and apparently all the other Moon families of Etoile aren't…. Much more brainy, either. How to be torn! Anyway. I kinda expected a cute girls doing cute stuff comedy, which is actually still is, but then it also starts surprisingly brutal with the execution and the whole depiction that Mia legit does have more than a few little and big traumas, but at the same time (maybe because she is a bit daft after all) still manages to get on her feet and try to get life in order pretty darn helluva well. That's some strength that kinda gets underestimated, maybe even most by the narrator who really can't leave a chance out to diss this character. (By v4 said narrator kinda starts to feel a bit mean spirited.) And maybe it's not even all her own quality - after all in part it's because she bluffed so much she now has no choice but to actually become more like her bluff. But v2 thematizes the idea of self betterment, forgiveness of flaws and mistakes so well, I felt like this was totally fluff, but tucked behind the most tsundere veil ever. This series is like the diagonally opposite of Livid Lady (which I'd like to call the anti-fluff), where no one gave the MC any sympathy for her efforts, which causes an escalation of demise and no mercy. Mia's self betterment however ultimately springs out of Ludwig honoring her will and effort to at least try and Anne's sympathy to give her at least a token of humanity until the very end, which then is the seed to cause snowballing not downwards, but upwards. That's just such a bright, positive note to capitalize on.

That being said, I was surprised how quickly the first arc wrapped up with just two volumes. It could have well held on more volumes before the guillotine danger vanished. And then v3 pulled a Sailor Moon Dark Moon arc. Except that this series' Chibi-Usa equivalent is a bit less obnoxious to start with. Somehow the arc seems a bit more weak in terms of its plot pull, but also it seems like a build up to some more stuff building up on it, and so I'm curious what twists it may walk to. I'll be pleasantly surprised if it managed to surpass volume 2.

Brunhild v3 - Its events take place some 100 years after v2 and still a long long ago before v1 (which so far definitely is still the least interesting volume of the series). But I am quite taken with multi-generational stories and how one life's course affects some others later on even when they are long past and gone. As such, v1 does get some more bonus points in retrospect, but the memory of it being a bit of a slog unfortunately remains. v3 was cool to have another strong female protagonist, but somehow lacked any bigger twist that v2 still had. Maybe that's because Krimhild really only gets some agency much later on.

Fushi no Kami v1: Good heavens, this volume is dragging on forever. 87% in. Unfortunately, right in the middle of a Maika part. I'm half considering skipping paragraphs. The world building around the overarching lore of the ancient civilization and their writings and books still remains interesting, but it's really at the back burner of the plot right now. And every single Maika part just. Argh, I'm really not interested in your cheese PoV...

I Parry Everything: What Do You Mean I’m the Strongest? I’m Not Even an Adventurer Yet! (Light Novel) v1-5 - This was a complete surprise. I expected some generic OP power fantasy thingy, but then it was all about misunderstandings, and they seemed to be on Tearmoon levels, while not being half as funny and hilarious, which I half thought was a bit disappointing. After another volume I figured, this series just works from differently and I had to look from a completely opposite angle: it isn't a comedy and satire on the forefront, but more action and badassery. But both have in common that every character suffers the Mia-bug equivalent of this series and there is an escalation ladder which prompts everyone to be coaxed into self-betterment. That's a nice thing.

And despite being rather OP the MC still isn't a Gary Sue and has to spend effort and isn't always saving the day on his own. Meanwhile, secondary female MC definitely got some real elegantly cool looking spotlight.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? v11-12 - I, uh, accidentally skipped v10 after only reading 30 pages of it. The most baffling thing is, it…. did not even really feel needed. Of course v10 appears to have changed a few things considerably, but they were so considerable, they were shown and explained in v11 again anyway. That being said. V11 felt like quite the complete slog as well. By the end, I was probably more skim reading than not…

The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish v1 - Oh my. I will say the situational comedy aspect of this is quite stellar. It does come up with the wildest absurd ideas (tho the biting the jewel bit is a bit facepalm.) That and the short chapter do prompt me to read on as it goes, but it feels a bit like the instant gratification feedback you get from, say, playing Tetris. So far I read until the half line of v1. While I can feel this slightly addictive feeling while reading, as soon as I put the book down, overall, I can't say I am very wowed. I think this stems most from the fact that the MC is kinda…. bland? That is to say, it's like he has personality, but no character. Despite everything being narrated from his PoV the reader has rather little insight to his background, his past, his weaknesses, strength, personal motivations, how clever or not he is, stances or even what his opinion of the characters of this world, which he knows from the novel he read, is. And that's… weird. Second MC is known as a to-be-tyrant to him, he knows his past, present and future, and you'd think that should have colored some sort of opinion and stance, but he appears to be strangely indifferent to him, aside of primary instincts and that his life kinda depends on him. But maybe that impression is still too preliminary? Will see.

Also soweit erstmal: Es ist unterhaltsam, aber ich glaube, wenn das einfach nur so weitergeht und nicht irgendwann noch ordentlich ernst für Tiefe wird irgendwie wird es bei mir nicht richtig zünden. Aktuell fehlt tatsächlich was ziemlich sehr: MC hat wenig Charakter. Also er hat Persönlichkeit, aber irgendwie… keinen Charakter. (Falls das irgendwie Sinn macht.) Dazu gehört u.a. auch Hintergrund zu seiner Person oder Motivationen im Leben und so Sachen. Man weiß ja mal so gar nichts aus seinem früheren Leben, und auch so wie er handelt, macht keinerlei Implikationen, was für eine Art Leben er geführt haben muss (abgesehen, dass er einem Kommentar nach halt aus PRC China kommt.) Sämtliche Handlungen bislang sind auch weniger eigene Motivationen, als Motivationen durchs System. So lustig und trollig das System auch sein mag (soweit eine interessantere Version von dem System in Wiedergeburt als Schleim) und zumindest etwas Anhaltspunkte gibt, an dem er sich entlanghangeln kann, damit es überhaupt einen Handlungsstrang hat - Es nimmt ihm auch die Agency weg. Was halt irgendwie nochmal gar nicht hilft, dass er eigenen Charakter zeigen kann. So wie er sich benimmt, Reaktionen und Gedanken und so die Art erinnert er mich auch etwas an Mia aus Tearmoon, aber gerade bei Ihr wurde gleich am Anfang Hintergrund, und neben Persönlichkeit auch schnell Charakter etabliert. Sie ist keine Leuchte, sie ist ziemlich selbst bezogen, faul, fehlgeleitet, eitel, denkt nicht weit, aber kann durchaus ihr Bestes geben, wenn die notwendige Motivation da ist, oder lernfähig sein, wenn es sein muss (i.e. triftige Gründe fürs Überlegen) und letztlich ist sie zwar egoistisch und ihre Handlungsmotivationen in den meisten Fällen fragwürdig, aber sie hat kein wirklich schlechtes Herz, das Treue und gute Taten anderer nicht wertschätzen kann. Und es ist auch direkt mit einigen griffigen Ereignissen klargemacht worden, warum sie so ist.

Das fehlt mir hier etwas sehr. Also, ja, er will halt nicht als Fisch krepieren, aber jenseits davon… Was treibt ihn eigentlich so als Figur, Charakter selbst an?

Das andere was mir jetzt auch etwas, uh? ist, hängt wohl damit zusammen (und dass es letztlich ein BL ist). Einige Reaktionen sind für mich eher ??? Dass er kann nicht aufhören kann mal zu erwähnen, dass der Prinz sehr hübsch ist, ist ja noch kein Ding. Aber dass der dann gleich so überreagiert, weil er an seine Haut kommt und er nackt ist, äh. Hat der im letzten Leben nie in einer Umkleide oder so andere Kerle gesehen? Oder hat der schon immer so reagiert? Weiß nicht, sind auch nur Kleinigkeiten, die kommen mir irgendwie nicht so natürlich nachvollziehbar rüber. Und dass es dann jetzt schon eskaliert in Richtung schlüpfrigen Humor, also ja, es ist BL und schon irgendwie klar, sie landen wohl noch im Bett am Ende, aber mag es dann doch eher, wenn das natürlich für den Charakter von MC und ML läuft und nicht, ja weil Plotchecklist.

Und allgemein denkt er irgendwie nicht so viel nach. Wie ist der hier hergekommen? Scheint ja nur einfach beim Lesen eingeschlafen zu sein, mal kein Truck-kun o.ä. Aber dann auch: keine Gedanken, dass er abgesehen von wieder Mensch werden zurück in seine Zeit/Welt will? Der hinterfragt auch null das Moe Pet System. Und wäre ja eine Sache, wenn es einfach zu seinem Charakter gehöre nicht weit denken zu können, aber irgendwie…. fehlt da was, das griffig einen Grund impliziert. Und auch grad, wenn der die WN von der Welt schon kennt, der kennt den Prinzen ja schon, und das Wissen poppt hier und da mal raus, und wird mehrfach betont, er kennt den Plot. Aber dafür, dass er ihn so gut kennt, lässt er irgendwie keine Meinung zu ihm als Figur je anmerken. War das seine Lieblingsfigur? Fand er ihn furchtbar? ….? Sowas müsste doch eigentlich seine Interaktionen und Reaktionen prägen. Und er hat im letzten Leben wohl WNs gelesen, ist der dann ein Otaku von? Kennt der die ganzen Tropes? Oder nur Gelegenheitsleser? Das müsste sich doch auch in seiner Haltung dazu, dass er jetzt in einem WN Plot gelandet ist (mit einem Game-style System) widerspiegeln wie Genre-savvy oder nicht der ist, aber bislang auch Niente.

Also kann alles ja noch kommen, aber bislang sieht es von der Art her nicht so ganz danach aus, da es noch nicht wirklich einen Vorbau gibt/"Samen" gesäht wurden.

vTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream v1 – … the premise is interesting. It felt like a walk out of the comfort zone to test this one out, and maybe it was too far out. In any case, I cannot console myself with how this just celebrates the booze a bit too much. And it's not even like she has the immunity and can drink the stuff like it's water.

Not much more to say yet than that the MC gives me more and more aroace vibes and there was even a scene that was almost made me grovel and flop down on the table facedown, because it hit a bit too close to home. But it's kinda nice to see how the MC is having people supportive to them and also in way it's feeling like being earned.

Story of Yanxi Palace #1-8: Over all the dance choreographies I watched of the 浮光 song (I babbled over that last month) youtube decided to throw me a dance performance clip of The Legend of Haolan over. Which had Haolan be misnamed as Yinluo. Haolan and Yinluo share the same actress, but the latter is the MC from Yanxi Palace, and then youtube decided to bombard me with clips of this series. All over the place out of order, and I probably have watched half of the show this way already, so figured could just start actually watching the thing from the beginning. And Yinluo is just so darn great of a strong, witty, quick brained and clever character. The show, aside from being full of pretty props, a very interconnected cast and plot also knows how to be funny to offset some of all the drama, death and broken hearts. And from the clips it seems like it's also a good example of how a person can love two people simultaneous, even if in different ways. And most importantly, how that that love stuff is not controlling her life. Integrity and purpose far supersede it. And she has the wits and later the means and power to stand her ground over it. And moreover, she is not above using dirty and bloody methods, but she stands firm at being what she is and who she is, and what her values are, so her character remains very true to herself. That's something really hard to pull off in life. She is quite the awesome character~

看 (電視劇《延禧攻略》主題曲): The opening song of Story of Yanxi Palace. As the OP it's pretty much got no vocals beyond the reciting of that poem at the end, which I still wonder if it's some classic poetry or specifically of this show. The full version features some lyrics, and they are quite nice, too. The opening visuals additionally are quite great and being atmospheric. What is astonishing is, that it's actually a whole bunch of stills with only kinda simple effects - the sort you frequently see in say Manga MADs or MMVs. And despite the simplicity of effects that kinda even look a bit cheap, it works. Really well. The direction and composition of the stills of the sequence definitely is eye catching. (Unfortunately the ED doesn't work as great. It also has the stills and effects, but inside is also a clip of the series itself, which is normal movement and kinda breaks the atmosphere completely for me.)

Other songs from the show's OST. You could also call these tracks the Yingluo-goes-badass tracks. Especially 反擊 is the Badass Yingluo comes, let's all have smug faces as watchers-theme.

张渠 - 玉人- Another track from some dance video yt foisted on me and it was nice to have in the playlist for a few days.

Zhou Shen - 触不可及 - Oh darn, this Engrish. But probably that made it so memorable, too. The melody is nice and the lyrics have a nice contemplative and kinda optimic note. The track was apparently the Chinese track to a movie, of which I have watch the first movie from a free years back. And at the time (and still) think, it is a good movie, but I really, really did not like the characters and some of the messages. So, just for having some fun and learn some sunlight in your life it's ok to speed on the highways or do prank calls to hospitals faking an emergency? I just can't get behind that. And knowing it's the theme song to it kinda soured me eventually on it. :/

Zhou Shen - 铃芽之旅 - The Chinese Version of the Theme Song of Suzume no Tojimari. I still haven't watched the movie, but I do like the JP version already, but I prefer the Chinese Version a whole lot more. Maybe it's because the voice is a bit lower than Toka's which this would imply:

RADWIMPS - Suzume (Suzume No Tojimari) [Dante Levo and Kindred Remix] - I like this Version more than the original too and it's some remix that does some pitch manipulation that lowers the one from the original.

The rest was nicely repeatable and mainly served to balance and accompany the above in the playlist.

O que ninguém esperaria é que este jogo não apenas marcasse um antes e um depois dentro do estúdio, mas também o primeiro passo na nova era moderna dos jogos AA. Hoje decidimos partir para uma história um tanto curiosa que sabemos que mais de um não levou em conta, como o destino de um est[udio pode dar uma volta de 180 graus ao tentar explorar novos caminhos.

2014, revelado exclusivamente para PS4, Hellblade

Em 2014, durante a Gamescom na Alemanha, a Ninja Theory revelou seu próximo projeto, uma aventura single-player focada em uma guerreira celta, aproveitando o renovado Unreal Engine 4, inicialmente, todas as informações sobre o lançamento indicavam disponíveis apenas para consoles PS4, algo isso não pareceu estranho a ninguém depois do que se viu com Heavenly Sword sendo exclusivo para PS3, deixando um precedente para a relação entre PlayStation e Ninja Theory.

My previous post was how the protagonist looked like in winter. This is what he was looking like the previous summer. Already chubbier isn't it? And can you believe he is positively skinny here compared with how he begins the story?

Indeed, the protagonist starts out as massively, morbidly obese, only to decide to lose all of his weight and become a trim and fit war machine and martial art experts. It took him some time (he only had a deadline of six months) but with a lot of efforts (and some secrets of his own) he managed to do what the people around him believed would only be possible in six years.

And the "why" of this sudden weight loss is actually the entire reason behind the manhwa's plot...

Makoto Yukimura is a Japanese manga artist. He was born in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan on the 8th of May, 1976. He made his debut with his manga Planetes, focusing on some strong elements of science fiction. This eventually carried over to becoming an animated series of 26 episodes, done by the Japanese Animation Studio, Sunrise from 1999 - 2004.

Currently, he is working on Vinland Saga. The storyline taking direct inspiration from norse and viking mythology, many of the characters being based upon real vikings from the viking age in Scandinavian history. This was first serialised in Weekly Shōnen Magazine, but was eventually moved over to the Afternoon magazine due to some issues regarding release pacing. Due to the success of his work on this manga, he received the 2009 Japan Media Arts Festival Grand Prize in the manga category. This manga is currently also being adapted into an anime series by Wit Studio, the people who also notably did Attack on Titan. So far they have released 22 episodes beginning in June of 2019 of Vinland Saga; ”Somewhere Not Here”, ”Sword”, ”Troll”, “A True Warrior”, “The Troll’s Son”, “The Journey Begins”, “Normanni”, “Beyond the Edge of the Sea”, “The Battle of London Bridge”, “Ragnarok”, “A Gample”, “The Land on the Far Bank”, “Child of a Hero”, “The Light of Dawn”, “After Yule”, “History of Beasts”, “Servant”, “Out of the Cradle”, “United Front”, “Crown”, “Reunion” and “Lone Wolf”.

The story follows Thorfinn, a young viking and the protagonist in this story. As he grows up, he’s been told stories of old sailors that have travelled the sea and found Iceland, said to be a heavenly place, warm and fertile; but that turns out to be far from the truth. The war between the English and the Danes is growing each day, and it is up to Thorfinn to get his revenge on his enemy; Askeladd, the man who killed his farther.

Most of the story is all based on real life events and even most of the characters within the storyline are from of the viking age, being a great resource for inspiration.

So, why did I decide to research this artist and this anime in particular?

I didn’t know this series or manga existed when I first came up with the storyline of my character Teres, (about a year ago now) but after discovering it, it has become a major source of inspiration to me. The fact that I myself am using mythology and events that happened during the viking age to aid my story's accuracy historically correlates perfectly with Vinland Saga.

An example that proves that this series indeed does base on myths and facts from this age of time, can be seen in this scene where a viking warrior eats a mushroom and then proceeding to charge into battle.

It is believed that some vikings actually took some form of hallucinating substance before fighting in battle. They would do this to reach a state of almost going insane to some extend; what you could call a “berserker” in a battlefield. Their menacing look and fearless fighting would without fail scare the enemy before even approaching the berserker.

It was not uncommon for the vikings to alter their appearance or change the way they portrayed themselves in their fighting and movement. There have been found several skulls of vikings, dug down in a mass grave in England, dating back at least 1000 years. Vikings filed their teeth, presumably to strike fear in their enemies when in battle.

Napoleon In Mexico

The night the flame of France’s first Empire was snuffed by the Duke of Wellington at Waterloo it officially ended the “Napoleonic Era” considered by historians. For the first time since pre-revolutionary France did the Bourbons sleep easy in their comfy beds, did the superior British Empire enjoy their reign as the unchallenged super power of the world. Napoleon watched his empire crumble from the shores of Saint Helena, a British colony in the South Atlantic. A fate worse than death for the French Emperor. Gardening became the main hobby for Bonaparte, passing the time till his inevitable death, somewhat at peace with his current situation. In his time in exile he made peace with the Catholic Church, feeling confident he’d enter God’s heavenly kingdom. His lone wish wasn’t to die on French soil with dignity, but to reunite with his son. Previous attempts at a reunion gone ignored by the occupying British fleet blockading Saint Helena to ensure he wouldn’t escape. The European powers had good reason to be paranoid of Bonaparte escaping. He’d done so after his defeat at the hands of the Russians, exiled to Elba the restored Bourbons wished to have him killed to destroy the threat of him once-and-for-all. But the charismatic Emperor showed himself to the French soldiers, exposing his chest “If there is one of you who would kill his Emperor, here I am” bravely exposing his chest in the type of gusto reminiscent of the demagogues of Ancient Rome. He continued to walk towards the soldiers well within range of their guns. “Soldiers, I am your emperor. Know me! If there is one of you who would kill his Emperor, here I am.” But they didn’t. Overwhelmed with emotion they threw down their rifles and ran towards their legendary leader chanting “Vive l’Empereur!” A man of passion, the flair for the theatrics it was no wonder how Napoleon steamrolled the empty robes on the thrones of decaying Kingdoms. Inspired to join their Emperor the soldiers ripped off their white royalist cockades, reaching out to Bonaparte hoping to touch him. Their eyes filled with tears. Napoleon embraced the hapless officer after he bestow him his sword fearing the worst. To avoid such an a occurrence repeating itself the British took better care of guarding the island. Round-the-clock surveillance made any dream of escape an a illusion. But on one foggy night of November 1, 1815 the time was just right to hatch a last ditch escape. Boarding a boat with his servant Bonaparte left on a flimsy dinghy. Able to use the misty, murky conditions to distance himself from Saint Helena to Sierra Leone. Word got out of his escape the alarm bells sang throughout Europe. Fuming mad King Louis XVIII told his military officers to “Kill the little devil” to mercifully end the saga. Galvanized by the bold gamble his amnesties army many of them formally of Napoleon’s “Grand Armeé” deserted to rejoin their Emperor. Jovial at the sight of him. But when Bonaparte set foot on the transport a wave overtook him. A sudden shift in motivation, perspective given to his life he never before considered. “Where to, my Lord?” The Captain asks. A thousand-yard stare told the crew he did not know. But soon he answered. “To North America.” Grateful for the gesture, he wished to seek refuge in the confines of his ally: the Americans. Bewildered, the Captain complied. “Anything for my Emperor.” Nature was on his side. The South Atlantic Ocean came under siege by an endless storm. Soldiers fell ill, some fell overboard and weren’t able to be saved. The journey North was treacherous. Eventually Napoleon, suffering from a server case of seasickness, ordering an immediate landing on the nearest location. Luckily land was within sight... but it wasn’t New York, D.C or even Virginia. Spanish-held Florida, Seminole territory. Immediately the fifty-seven French soldiers came in contact with the Seminole and Miccosukee tribe, and the Seminole leader Osceola, the French and Bonaparte were brought to him as prisoners. Osceola knew who the well dressed man was. Posters of his pasty white face were pinned all around the U.S territory of which he visited often. He also knew the prize for Bonaparte’s capture was to be pretty hefty. But the Emperor exercised his silver tongue. “You think they will pay you in gold and silver for my body. But they’ll kill you and your kin just to get it back.” Bonaparte didn’t have an ounce of aggression in his tone. Speaking more as a guardian to these people who’ve seen their land taken, their families destroyed by the U.S expansion. Osceola conferred with his fellow tribesmen deciding to let Bonaparte live and not to turn him in if he assisted them in the fight against the American (and maybe the Spanish). Though he entertained the idea of retirement, he agreed to the proposition in a split-second. He was unshackled and given the military role as General as his days in France. Except instead of an experienced fighting force well armed, he inherited untrained men using outdated technology limited to bows and arrows. To add to that the Seminoles fighting force was slightly under 100, the army utilized freed slaves from Georgia and North Carolina amounting to 150. “Pathétique.” For the first time since Tecumseh the Natives took charge. Under the leadership of Bonaparte the Natives and Freedmen, along with some French soldiers ransacked two armories in Atlanta in the dead of night. Stealing 85 rifles, 17 artillery pieces, along the way twelve slaves who ran away from their masters attached themselves to the convo. Napoleon initially wanted to ditch the stowaways but the Natives convinced him it wouldn’t look too good. Luckily the runaways were already a good distance from the plantation. Marching back to “Fort Negro” located in Tallahassee, fortification improved mightily under Bonaparte’s leadership. In a year’s time the Seminoles, interconnected tribes and Freedmen were a vital fighting force strong enough to defend themselves. More than just a band of ragtag soldiers wishing to stay free. The U.S despatched a small band of one-hundred men to attack the fort, with the assistance of the Creeks. Napoleon managed not only to repeal the invaders but to kill their esteemed general, hero of the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812 Andrew Jackson. The U.S/Creek tribe carrying his mangled corpse back to the boarder. In a monumental upset after a year of preparing Bonaparte delivered his end of the bargain. He was free to retire, now with the trust of the tribe and Freedmen. But the fire was already reignited. Emperor Bonaparte was back. His sights set for Mexico currently elbow deep in blood in revolution against the Spanish crown. Napoleon saw the aging monarch’s unstableness, the revolutionaries sent envoys to Florida to ask for his assistance. Bonaparte would only agree if the main general Vicente Guerrero agreed to the following conditions: 1. To let his empire absorb free Mexico 2. Full command of the army and navy 3. Assistance in smuggling French soldiers to North America Guerrero agreed. Though he had his reservations. Both him and Osceola. The Seminoles did not want war with anybody but those infringing on their land. Bonaparte strong armed the leadership of the tribe to his wishes, executing a power play and telling them they’d be dead without him. Osceola allowed him to take 1,000 regulars to Mexico. The Freedmen were not so reluctant. The individual leaders of the faction were enamored with Bonaparte. Under the impression he’ll lead an expedition to free more slaves and reunite estranged mothers and fathers with their kids (though he never did). Bonaparte’s new Grand Amreé grew to 65,000 “irregulars” and regulars. Commanding the diverse army of French, Native, Black and poor whites towards Mexico City. Utilizing gorilla warfare that undid Bonaparte in the “Peninsula War” against Spain years earlier. By 1819 the Spanish stranglehold on Mexico and North America loosened, the “Insurgents” overtook the capital, crippling the Spanish Empire, surrendering an unconditional peace. Formally New Spain became part of Napoleon’s new empire ruled by his brother Joseph (previously the King of Spain and Bavaria) installed to the throne by popular demand of the citizens of Mexico. By 1820 Napoleon’s new empire stretched from Florida to Costa Rica. Absorbing the California and Nuevo territories - the United States became furious at Bonaparte’s ambitions to reclaim land originally sold to them in the “Louisiana Purchase.” Aging, and suffering from early stages of stomach cancer, Bonaparte knew his time on this earth was short and wished to have his son by his side before death and to be his successor. An envoy of Mexican-Franco personal sailed to Austria to pick up the heir to the throne. After some reluctance to leave the prestigious land for an area he considered beneath him, word got around of his dad’s declining health and swayed Napoleon II to sail away. Life in the “New Napoleonic Empire” mirrored both the flaws and strengths of the United States. Divided heavily by class the poorest citizens were the Natives and Freedmen, some even subjected to cheap labor (slave labor in some territories where it was legal) Napoleon didn’t govern with the same zeal like his days in France. Too frail to instill the core principles of the “Napoleonic Code,” the laissez-faire governing style of Joseph Bonaparte planted the seed of class warfare eventually undoing the once prominent newly minted empire. Native Americans and American Blacks migrate to Mexico, Joseph did not listen to his brother’s pleas to escort them out. But Napoleon Bonaparte himself focused his efforts on conquering the United States Who after the debacle at Fort Negro revamped their military under the leadership of James Monroe, strengthening the navy and installing Winfield Scott’s “Anaconda Plan” designed to choke out potential trade with allied nations to Bonaparte. Infuriated by this Napoleon declared war on the United States. Though ailing, Bonaparte inspired commanders of the original Grand Armée to desert the crown, Jean-Baptiste and Jean de Dieu Soult were given titles upon their arrivals. The New Grand Armée slaughtered invading U.S forces, William Henry Harrison killed at the Siege attempt of Texas. Louis-Bonaparte (Younger brother of Napoleon) led a discrete war effort to push out the Sioux tribe in North & South Dakota, absorbing those and the Minnesota, Iowa territories by 1824. But the machine of Napoleon suffered a stutter, on Christmas Day 1820 Napoléon II died at the hands of the British navy sinking the Franco-Mexican ship. The elder Bonaparte succumbed to a nervous breakdown upon the news, dying via heart attack at the age of fifty-one. Vicente Guerrero, a adversary to Joesph’s reign implored his people to “act in the spirit of Napoleon” by overthrowing the oppressive yoke of his “drunkard” brother. Louis-Bonaparte continued his advancement north unaware of the Emperor’s death as the First Mexican Empire fell into Civil War that’ll last ten-years. The envoys Joseph tried to sent to recall Louis back to Mexico City mysteriously disappeared and the calls for help from the Seminole tribes fell on deaf ears. Irate at the turn of events Joseph murdered his public standing with the Natives ordering the hostile takeover of the “Napoleonic Confederacy” in formally the Florida territory, overthrowing Osceola, exiling him to the sea, organizing the “Fight or Serve” policy meaning the tribes inside the Napoleonic Empire can either willfully sign-up for military service or be subjected to slavery. Before the Seminoles could reply Joseph wanted to prove he would not hesitate pulling the trigger if they did not comply by massacring seventy-six Natives in Tallahassee, the capital of the Confederacy. This left the door open for Guerrero to appeal to the Seminoles lust for revenge, by 1823 most of the tribes in Napoleonic territories sided with Guerrero’s rebellion. Meanwhile, Jean-Baptiste and Jean de Dieu Soult duel with Winfield Scott in the Southern states of the U.S, attempting to divide and conquer among slave owners wishing to freely transport their slaves among non-slave territories. When Scott proved to have the upper hand in the Atlanta Theatre, the two French commanders burned the state of Georgia to the ground. Despite this, 18,000 Georgians were swayed to join the Franco cause. On March 6, 1826 Jean-Baptiste and Jean de Dieu marched on Mexico City completing the demise of Joseph Bonaparte. Capturing and executing him. Installing a “Democratic” system with two Consuls in the style of the Roman Republic. Economic reforms for the poor cooled the violent flames in the bellies of the poorest citizens. The legislation was labeled “Reforma Económica” by its citizens. This did not deter Guerrero, only it emboldened and further endeared him to his fellow Mexicans. As instability ravages North America, the fledgling Spanish Empire seeks to reconquer the land with the help of the United States. While some Southern states were seduced by the idea of secession, Virginia, Kentucky and Atlanta remained in the Union casting their lot to fight against the “Franco-Secessionist” alliance. The Native Americans are run out of Florida, escaping to Costa Rica. President John Quincy Adams, an opponent towards U.S expansion allies the Sioux in a show of “Friendship” between them and the States in their fight against imperialist Franco-Mexican powers. The three-way scramble for Mexico melt its resources, ruin its infrastructure, further destabilizing the poorer classes. Disgusted by the reformation of Mexico since Bonaparte’s demise Louis-Napoleon crowns himself King of Franco-español Gratuito, made up of mostly Spanish royalist to Bonaparte and Freedmen, opening up another wound to gush endless blood in the disastrous war for Mexico. Untold amount of lives have been spent to preserve or fight against the tyrannical rule of empire. Borderlines have been redrawn, U.S expansion West has been successfully halted. Native tribes continue to live on but are engulfed in war between each other, fighting not only the French and Americans, but some managed to get into conflict with Mexico and Royalist Spain. By 1833 President Henry Clay inherits a nation in deep need to end this war destroying their economy, ravaging their citizen population. From over 10,000,000 in 1820, over 2 million of them slaves, fell below 9,000,000. The “War of Spanish Reconquest; North American Theatre” heavily draining the United States treasury, the Spanish are faring no better. As the war wages neither party is gaining the upper-hand. The royal powers of Europe contemplate throwing their lot into the war to reclaim their former colonies.
