Ooooh ,a burn from Tina Brown at a literary festival!
From the end of the article:
"Speaking at the Henley Literary Festival Miss Brown said: 'In Montecito, where they live, their $14million mansion is a humble cottage compared to what these other people have.'
She also joked: 'At some point it might be more than a new house she’s looking for. Elon Musk is still single, that’s all I have to say.'"
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11297903/Prince-Harrys-tell-memoir-never-light-day-claims-former-Vanity-Fair-editor.html
Damn..go Tina and she’s right. That cheap looking house has no elegance or worth like old school Montecito homes.

Pattie Boyd, model of the Swinging Sixties, prefers 1980s fashion

She may be the face of the Swinging Sixties and Seventies, as well as swinging on the arm of two of its icons, but for Pattie Boyd the 1980s were just better.
The former wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton had a ringside seat for the Beatles in the 1960s and toured with Clapton in the 1970s. Yet yesterday Boyd, 78, told the Henley Literary Festival: “The Eighties were absolutely fantastic.
“It was so full-on. I love those big shoulder pads, the glamour of hair, false eyelashes, it was absolutely super glamorous.”

If she could relive a moment, it would be travelling to Cornwall on a train with the Beatles where for ten hours she “listened to them play music and run around laughing and having fun”.
Boyd, who was pursued by Clapton while still with Harrison, said there had been no antipathy between the two — although she had been nervous about Harrison’s reaction to Clapton writing the song Layla for her.
However, Harrison attended the party after she married Clapton in 1979. “Musicians absolutely adore each other because of how they play, because of their music,” she said. “And I think that transcends social relationships.”
Not all musicians found it as easy to forgive. Bryan Ferry had turned up at the party, shortly after Jerry Hall, his ex-fiancee, had started dating the Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger. “He said, ‘Is Jerry here?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘Is Mick here?’ I said, ‘Yes.’
“He turned round and went back into his car and took half the drive with him. Furious, absolutely furious.”

Talking Spinning Plates - The Book
Hello! Sophie HQ here. Can you believe we are only a matter of days away from the launch of Sophie’s autobiography, Spinning Plates? The book is Sophie’s literary debut and promises to cover all sorts, from music to motherhood.
The book itself is available to pre-order now from all your favourite booksellers. And if you want to get your hands on a special signed edition, make sure you get over to Waterstones fast and get your order in. Copies are limited, so don’t delay getting one in your basket ready for publication day on October 7 (this Thursday!).
Tumblr media
We also managed to have a chat with Sophie - in between her busy festival schedule and final book launch prep - to get a little preview of what fans might be able to expect. Have a read of our Q + A below...
Where did the idea to write your book come from?
Sophie: I was kind of tricked into it! Hodder approached me with an idea to write a book that was more of a collection of essays on my thoughts. I started then thought no, actually this is an autobiography! I loved writing it actually. It surprised me.
Does the book cover similar topics to the podcast - e.g parenting and motherhood - or is there even more to discover?
S: It’s a book about me so obviously the fact I’m a parent features.. but really it’s not a book on parenting. It’s a book where I look back at where I started and where I began and I joined a few dots and if I’ve learnt a thing along the way, that’s there too. The book’s chapters are divided up into 4 topics - me (so more emotional stuff or my thoughts on things), motherhood (fairly self-explanatory), music (from my first band all the way through to the kitchen discos) and men - raising them, dating them, marrying one… it’s all there.
Have you found writing the book a way to discuss things you haven't spoken about previously?
S: Yes a-plenty. Weirdly I started off writing about some of the most tricky stuff… I speak for the first time about an unhealthy relationship I used to be in and also some other things that I wanted to share. It’s been helpful and cathartic to be able to talk it through on the page. Plus I document a lot of times when I’ve embarrassed myself so, I definitely over shared with that!
Fans already get a glimpse into your life through your social channels. Will this give them even more of an insight into your daily life and career?
S: I think Instagram tells one story but not necessarily the real one. This is much more in my head than anything else I share. It’s closer to songwriting than social media. It’s personal and intimate and conversational. And hopefully funny in parts, too!
How did you find the writing process?
S: Adored it. Felt gloriously indulgent and grown up and fun. I wrote much more than I intended or expected because of it.
Are you excited for the book to launch? How does it compare to an album or single release?
S: This is much worse! I’m nervous. I’ve been very honest - what’s the point otherwise? - and I’m about to open myself up to all sorts of conversations about things I’ve never spoken about before. But conversely, it’s exactly the book I wanted to write and I don’t think there’s another way I could have approached it. It definitely represents me well.
What response have you had to the book from friends and family?
S: Thankfully, positive responses and lots of relief! I’m not here to upset anyone and even the ‘baddies’ in my life do ok in that I’m not trying to make their life tricky, I’m just explaining how I felt about stuff.
For fans of your music - does the book cover your whole career so far? Can you give fans a taste of what they might find out that they didn't know previously?
S: Yes it’s my whole career and for the second question I don’t even know where to begin! You’ll have to pick up a copy and see for yourself. I think there’s a ton of stuff I’ve never shared! As I say on the first page, if you’re reading it then you’re about to get to know me a whole lot better…
Definitely sounds intriguing!
Don’t forget: you can pre-order Spinning Plates here.

Spinning Plates - The Book Tour
Sophie is no stranger to a tour, but this one is a little different. She will be putting down the disco ball and picking up a pen as she takes Spinning Plates on the road. Tomorrow, Sophie is over to the Henley Literary Festival before finishing up at the Cheltenham Literature Festival where Sophie will be talking to the very lovely Alex Clark.
Steps What The Future Holds Tour
Sophie can always be relied upon to help get a party started. She will be filling the floor ahead of Steps as the support act on the pop icons’ upcoming What The Future Holds Tour throughout this November. You can book your tickets here - no matter when or where you attend, it will be a night to remember.
Kitchen Disco 2022 Tour
We are ever closer to when the Kitchen Disco hits the road itself. From March, Sophie will be taking her signature style of perfect pop and partying nationwide. The disco will be winding its way around the country, from Birmingham to Yorkshire, Cardiff to Glasgow and everywhere in between - so there are plenty of opportunities to get your glam on and come along for a boogie with the queen of Kitchen Disco herself. We can promise glitter, fun and plenty of pop bangers to kickstart your 2022. Grab a mate and a seat!
And Finally…
Outside of the book and touring, Sophie has also been busy on the big screen. She lent her vocals to a special single, While We’re Still Young, which features on the soundtrack of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. You might have heard the track already as it has been a-listed at Radio 2 for the last few weeks. The song is a collaboration with The Feeling. Not only did The Feeling’s lead singer Dan Gillespie-Sells co-write the original hit West End musical, but bassist Richard Jones is Sophie’s husband - so there is a special bit of family magic involved. You can listen to the song here and watch the film now on Amazon Prime Video.
Thanks and speak again soon,
Sophie HQ x

So,
This is cool.
Journalist Tara Henley has written a piece about “B.C.’s Top Literary Towns” and Nelson made the list. Local writers Anne DeGrace, Deryn Collier, Roz Nay and Eileen Delehanty Pearkes are all name-dropped.
It also acknowledges the expanding reach of the annual Elephant Mountain Literary Festival. I don’t think I’m going to be able to make it this year, but I was stoked to see their 2018 lineup includes one of my favourite authors, reformed bank robber Stephen Reid.
“The scene is so vibrant, in fact, that the rest of the country is taking notice. The Toronto Star has named Nelson’s annual Elephant Mountain Literary Festival one of the best in the country. And with good reason, as it combines small-town charm with some of the best headliners CanLit has to offer.”
You can read the whole story here.
There’s just one problem: they forgot to mention Leesa Dean. And, now that I think of it, Tom Wayman.

Access all ages! A guide to the multi-generational festivals this summer
There is nothing better in summer than a festival, especially one that offers fun, food and frolics for the whole family.
From a four-day spectacle in Oxfordshire with a top musical line-up to a Cornish beach party with an eco-friendly message, there’s plenty of festivals to choose from this year.
Here’s our guide to the best multi-generational extravaganzas around the UK…
Star-studded history
Wiltshire’s Chalke Valley History Festival includes a D-Day Dance and Dress Up. There is also a comedy panel show
Dedicated to bringing the nation’s past to life, Wiltshire’s Chalke Valley History Festival – sponsored by the Daily Mail – hosts an impressive roster of historians from all over the globe.
A World War II trench recreation lets generations young and old experience life on the front line. Plus, there’s a D-Day Dance and Dress Up to mark 75 years since the liberation began.
Grown-up treats: The comedy panel show Histrionics, with Harry Enfield and Dan Snow.
Children will love: The giant replica of a rocket-firing Hawker Typhoon jet.
Details: June 24 to 30. Event tickets from £5. Camp from £5 a pitch or splash out on a glamping pod, sleeping four, for £275 a night. Call the box office on 01722 781133 or visit cvhf.org.uk.
Petrolhead heaven
What started as a mere kernel of thought in the zany mind of DJ Chris Evans has become a summer staple.
The motors at Cheshire festival CarFest North are a thing of beauty, of course, but this annual shindig – which raises money for children’s charities – also comes with top chefs, a wellness area, kids’ kingdom and even a bespoke super-group on the main stage.
Grown-up treats: Car freaks will coo over hot rods, movie cars and F1 racers.
Children will love: Meeting Dick and Dom in adventure playground The Fort.
Details: July 26 to 28. Day tickets from £69 for adults. Children six to 16, £16 and under sixes go free. Weekend family camping (two adults and two children) is £356 (carfest.org).
Celebrity chefs
Pub In The Park is a chain of festival rustled up by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge
Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge has brought his Midas touch to a chain of festivals called Pub In The Park, crafting eight family friendly foodie extravaganzas in some of the UK’s prettiest parks including Tunbridge Wells, Chiswick and Warwick.
The likes of Texas, Soul II Soul Soundsystem and Razorlight provide the soundtrack.
Kerridge has brought his chums along, too, with chefs including Monica Galetti, Angela Hartnett and Rick Stein offering informative cooking demonstrations.
Grown-up treats: Kerridge’s minted lamb pie, with mash and liquor (and a pint).
Children will love: Decorating their own cupcakes in sessions for mini-bakers.
Details: Until September 15. Tickets from £30 for adults, £20 for children. Those five and under go free (pubintheparkuk.com).
Music mania
Oxfordshire’s Wilderness festival is a four-day spectacle featuring performances and workshops
Now nine years old, Oxfordshire’s Wilderness festival has been a pioneer for the current wave of festivals that welcome the whole family — wander through the gates and it’s like you’ve joined a commune.
Set in ambrosial Cornbury Park, this four-day spectacle features an overwhelming array of performances and workshops, with the arts, wellness and eclectic music firmly at its heart.
Tom Odell, Robyn and Bombay Bicycle Club are this year’s big names.
Grown-up treats: God’s Jukebox, a 47-piece orchestra that plays music picked by festival-goers.
Children will love: The madcap Flying Seagull Project.
Details: August 1 to 4. Adult camping tickets are £179.50. For 13 to 17-year-olds it’s £126.25, six to 12-year-olds cost £39.75, and those five and under are £6.25 (wildernessfestival.com).
Cakes and tales
Bookworms should head on down to the Henley Literary Festival, where readings take place on a riverboat, or at Grade II-listed Phyllis Court
Listen to literary luminaries pouring forth at the Henley Literary Festival, in association with the Daily Mail.
The Thames-side spot lures stellar names, with some readings on a riverboat, or at Grade II-listed Phyllis Court.
Look out for Bake Off star Nadiya Hussain, Jacob Rees-Mogg and comic-turned-children’s writer Julian Clary.
Grown-up treats: Mary Berry waxing lyrical.
Children will love: Learning how to draw a T-rex with top illustrator Sophy Henn.
Details: September 28 to October 6. Tickets from £7 per event. Call the box office on 01491 575 948 (henleyliteraryfestival.co.uk).
Cornish beach party
At Boardmasters, surfing pros show off their skills off Newquay’s Fistral Beach and festival-goers can try their hand at kayaking and coasteering. Musical performances also take place
Newquay’s Fistral Beach is the venue for Boardmasters, which offers seaside fun served with an eco-friendly message.
Surf is definitely up, with pros showing off their skills and ‘have a go’ sessions including kayaking and coasteering.
Enjoy the gorgeous scenery, all while the likes of Florence + The Machine and Wu-Tang Clan belt out tunes from the clifftop above.
Grown-up treats: Wood-fired hot tubs, with champagne, in the wellness zone.
Children will love: Taking their own music to the silent disco.
Details: August 7 to 11. A five-day camping ticket costs £179pp for adults and older children. Those aged seven and under pay £5. Family surf lessons cost £31.50 (boardmasters.com).
Gen X meets Y and Z
Marrying science, the arts and sport with a dollop of music, Deer Shed Festival celebrates its tenth anniversary at North Yorkshire’s Baldersby Park in 2019.
Proof they’re expecting different ages? The theme is Generation X, Y and Z.
Hi-jinks include a giant game of classic British Bulldog, Harry Potter-themed yoga and RSC acting classes.
Grown-up treats: The comedy — it’s so good it rivals the music for centre stage.
Children will love: Urban dance lessons, retro gaming and a ‘bubble rave’ for tots.
Details: July 26 to 28. Weekend camping, £155pp for adults, £50 for ages six to 15, and £20 ages three to five (deershedfestival.com).
Food for thought
River Cottage Festival in rural Dorset guarantees fun, food and frolics
In late summer Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall’s HQ in rural Dorset flings open its foodie doors to host the River Cottage Festival.
There’s high-brow debate on food sustainability, with Countryfile’s Anita Rani and fashion designer Alice Temperley among those appearing. There’s also cool sounds from Stompin’ Dave and Honeyfeet.
Grown-up treats: The food, of course. Learn to wood-fire a fish, forage for herbs, and mix a ‘wild’ cocktail.
Children will love: Fire-starting in bushcraft classes, and star-gazing sessions.
Details: August 24 to 25. Day tickets are £25 for adults, and under-16s go free. Weekend family camping costs from £190 per tent (rivercottage.net).
Cumbria spectacular
Musical legends including Tom Jones and Nile Rodgers and Chic are booked to temporarily breach the peace at Kendal Calling in the Lake District.
Lowther Deer Park will host 14 themed areas — rave like it’s the Nineties at Houseparty, hear poetry on the Soapbox stage, or find yourself in Lost Eden.
Grown-up treats: Deer Lodge promises ‘proper bed’ glamping.
Children will love: Bowling a monolith at ‘Strikehenge’, a Neolithic take on ten-pin.
Details: July 25 to 28. Camping for two in a luxury Podpad costs £645 (kendalcalling.co.uk).

According to Ms Junor, Camilla was 'passionately' in love with Andrew Parker Bowles at the time, so overlooked his infidelity. She was aware that he was sleeping with other women - including some of her closest friends. At the Henley Literary Festival in England on the weekend, Ms Junor shared one particular tale where Camilla caught Andrew having a dalliance with one of her friends. 'There was a lovely story when she was walking through London in the evening and spotted his car parked outside the flat of a very good friend of hers. 'So she let the tyres down and wrote a message in lipstick on his windscreen,' she said. It appears Andrew wasn't the only one sleeping around at the time. Ms Junor claimed that Prince Charles was also having a number of affairs during his 20s and 30s - many of them with married women. However, when Charles learned of Camilla's decision to marry Mr Parker Bowles, he was reportedly 'heartbroken'. In the book, Junor writes that the prince begged Camilla Shand (her name at the time) to call off her wedding to Mr Parker Bowles. Camilla and the Prince of Wales continued to see each other until he became engaged to Diana, after which she tried to avoid going events that Charles would be attending. Originally published as Camilla slept with Charles for 'revenge'
