OMG I'm gonna take an exam tomorrow
So Tomorrow I'm gonna take my advanced American literature. Here's a sum-up of what of some of the works I studied so far:
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Johnathan Edwards: 7 out of 10. Interesting sermon about how to let your deepest fears out. No wonder why very religious/conservative people in the US are so paranoid about everything.
Hannah Dustin's experience: 7.5 out of 10. Through three authors (Cotton Mather, John Greenleaf Whittier, and Henry David Thoreau) it displays how monstrosity is on both sides.
Herman Melville - Benito Cereno: 9 out of 10. I think the novella is an accurate depiction of its time and some elements of it aged well. If you're interested in thriller stories with some Gothic vibes about morality and complex race relations, this is the right story for you.
Henry James - Daisy Miller: 8.5 out of 10. I think Henry James has better works but I liked this story. It delves into morality, class, and gender roles set between 19th century Switzerland and Italy. Daisy Miller's character is somewhat reminiscent of the typical 19th century heroine but with an American twist. It shares many elements with The Great Gatsby tbh
F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby: 10 out of 10. Whew, what a story. The chaotic energy, melancholy, glamorous parties, and especially deception. I didn't expect this book to be this intriguing. It's no wonder why they called it 'The Great American Novel' . Funnily enough this story mirrors some elements with Beauty and the Beast and Wuthering Heights
Alex Kuo - The White Jade : 7 out of 10. Although they are short shorties, Alex Kuo could have explored the Asian American experience so much better but it is what it is. It's nice to see how he portrays the hardships and difficulties of Asian migrants in America.
Tim O'Brien - Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong and How To Tell A True War Story: 10 out of 10. Wow, The Things They Carried didn't have to go this hard. This book almost snatched my wig by how emotionally tough it was. These two stories are less emotional but more traumatic compared to the other ones.
Annie Proulx - Brokeback Mountain: 10 out of 10. I had already watched the movie years ago but wow, the short story is as heartbreaking as the movie. It's a story about the immense power of love and how pure and beautiful love is. Well done Ms. Annie Proux, Well done.
Mohja Kahf - Emails from Scheherazade: 10 out of 10. This collection of poems impressed me with the resilience and strength of the character. As a Muslim progressive woman (which might sound like a paradox to some people) she actually respects her origins without tearing anyone down and at the same time, she fights against society's prejudices. This poem collection made me think of some progressive Muslims who are torn down by both sides of society see the Far-Right in the West and Islamic societies in the Middle East. Also, one of her poems really sounds like the ultimate American experience, I'm referring to Voyage Duster If you know what I mean.

Please tell us a bit more about this random f/f you're suddenly writing? I was hoping and patiently waiting (and will still be of course) for some Mary Greenleaf some day, but I'd take a any new wlw pairing too!
haha I was about to mention Marie. I had plans (and haha on me for making plans. I should have learned my lesson by now.) to do maybe a firehouse story with Mary Garcia. Maybe. But who has time? And then Marie Greenleaf DEFINITELY has some romance coming her way. After some suffering. The right amount of werewolf confusion and suffering. But of course I am not writing beings right now because, well, DSP took my confidence in them and they have yet to return it.
THIS is something else.
Uh. It’s like sci fi. (But I do sci fi the way I do steampunk or urban fantasy, which is to say, it’s really just set dressing for outfits and characters.) And I haven’t decided if it’s in the same universe as Space Gays. I suppose it could be. But it doesn’t involve anyone from that story. (Though rest assured, there is some wlw tension in that story. Whew)
uh. And I hope it will be short. Like hopefully no longer than like, Green Tea and Pink Apples.
and... idk like someone from a culture that was born out of a bunch of genetically engineered prostitutes with psychic abilities who murdered their creators and do what they like, and uh, a quiet lady from an alien species who just happen to be resistant to psychic shit and who is also part of an underground organization that smuggles refugees into safe territories.
WHICH ALL SOUNDS COMPLICATED. But let me assure you, it’s just feelings and cheese, as per usual.
If uh, I write it. And don’t just make notes.

Greenleaf Review
*spoilers ahead* WHEEEWW I just got done watching S2 of Greenleaf on Netflix and maaaaaaaaaaaan lol. That show is EVERYTHING to me. As a former Christian from a christian family, I really relate to Grace and her struggling with her faith and her resentment and hatred of Mack. I relate to Sophia finding her faith and the “season of righteousness” that comes after.  And Mae Greenleaf, whew! Lynn Whitfield STAYS serving grace and poise with a lil “I will still beat that ass if I need to.”  I loved seeing Grace find love and be loved but I will always know that dude as the ex basketball player lol. Or was it football? Whatever. I loved seeing them really bond, especially after that messy last season, messing with that dude who...disappeared lol. Also, absolutely appropriate ending to Mack.
Jacob’s wife reminds me of a more assertive version of my mother so I’m inclined to be irked by her but I get her motivations and I’m glad to see them working together and figuring stuff out together. I’m a little annoyed by the lack of suspicion around Tasha and the random woman who shows up tryna boff the Bishop, but I’m willing to see where that goes.  Now, while I loved seeing lil dude from Disney breaking out on Greenleaf, and I liked that they bring in teen abusive relationship dynamics I’m not satisfied with the turn with Zora and Sophia. Sophia liked Isaiah first and we never address how Zora just sees no problem with horning in on that. Granted Sophia moved onto a MUCH better guy, still though, it needed a follow through. Then, Zora becomes completely obsessed with Isaiah which seemed out of character, but I think we don’t know enough about Zora on her own to KNOW her character outside of her quiet snark and snappy comebacks. So I wish we’d gotten to know her more first, to better understand why she’d stand around and let Isaiah repeatedly embarrass her and lay hands on her and run away with him! Wtf.  Okay Charity, I /LOVE/ seeing a dark skin, fat Black woman be L O V E D. And she got LOVED, especially after everything with Kevin. When Jabari kissed her c-section scar I went straight the glory. That was SO HOT.  I really, REALLY appreciated the way they tackled homophobia in the church. I liked how the characters struggled with it and how James finally came to see that no one chooses their sexuality, this is just part of them. I’m glad they invited Cartlon back but Charity has some nerve crying to him about Kevin when she didn’t fight for him to stay at Cavalry. That said though, I’m disappointed with where they went with Kevin. Season 1 I was HOOOOPING, PRAYING, that they’d make Kevin bi. I thought, how damn progressive would it be for Kevin to still be in love with his wife, while struggling with these feelings for other men? But nah they went with Kevin being gay. Kinda disappointing because he definitely loved Charity. That much was clear.  Also when Jacob busts up Isaiah’s face at the cotillion? I. Screamed. Because Y E S.  All in all man, Greenleaf gets a S T R O N G 8/10. I am looking forward to S3 cuz I am in love with this high drama, messy ass Black people on TV thing.

But just before that moment, keep in mind that Rih Rih kept it very woke. Speaking of those of us with friends from other backgrounds, she said “when we’re marching and protesting and posting about the Michael Brown Jr and Atatiana Jeffersons of the world, tell your friends to pull up…” to applause. Word.
