Ah, nothing like a nice mist hitting your face on a hot day to keep you cool from the sweltering heat of hell.

Was it a light rain that suddenly moved in, uninvited? no.

Was it one of those flimsy tourist fans found at human realm theme parks that mixed a laughable amount of water into its foam propellers to bring your body temperature down?

of course not.

Was it your demonic boyfriend spitting out your shared bufo egg tea all over your face in shock at the words that had just left your mouth? bingo.

“YA WANNA WHAT?!”

“First of all, gross,” you grimace, wiping the remnants of the drink off of your cheeks and out of your eyes. “Second of all, I said I want to form a pact with Levi.”

“W-Why do ya need to go a do a thing like that for! You’ve got me! Ain’t I enough?!”

You can’t help the small smile that begins to form on your lips. Of course he’d get jealous over this. And while Mammon was certainly more than enough on his own for you personally, you simply couldn’t help but want to get closer to your newly forced housemates.

“It’s not that! You’re perfect. It would just…be nice you know…to have more than one friend here. And to maybe get to know your brothers more?”

“T-There’s no need! I can tell ya anything about them ya wanna know!”

“You know that’s not what I mean. I want to be friends with them!”

“And out of all of em to be friends with, ya pick Levi?!”

You roll your eyes at your incredulous pact mate. “Well, he was the first one to talk to me besides you. And he didn’t have to be forced to, unlike some people”.

While you mutter the last part under your breath, it was still loud enough to hear, causing a swift flick to your forehead from the second born.

“Oi! Do I gotta remind ya he used ya to make me pay him back? He saw ya as a means to an end! At least I saw ya for what you were.”

“Oh, and what is that?”

“A spoiled brat”, he mocks, ruffling a hand atop your head causing you to lightly push him back.

“Cmon. I didn’t make you and Beel marathon TSL for nothing! Levi’s not gonna just befriend some normie who doesn’t know their stuff! I gotta get good!”

“Gross! You’re even startin’ to sound like him.”

“Lol.”

“Ugh! Stop, I feel like I’m on a date with my brother!”

“Lmao. Rofl.”

“CAN IT!”

Mammon takes another irritated sip of tea before continuing, “How’d ya expect to do that anyway huh? It’s Levi we’re talkin’ about. The only person he’s nice to ain’t even a person. It’s a damn fish for cryin’ out loud!”

Your eyes twinkle in determination. “Maybe he just hasn’t met anyone like me!”

Mammon breaks out into a cackle at that one. “Yeah, you’re certainly somethin’!” He can hardly contain his laughter. “Aw shut up”, you shine, playfully pushing his shoulder. “It’ll work! I’ve already got a plan!”

“Ah- does this little ‘plan’ involve me?”, he questions, whipping away a stray tear.

You shoot him a mischievous look as you steal the cup away from him. “Yes, to some degree.”

“Damn. You’re really hellbent on this, huh?”

You nod in agreement. Of course you were, though why you could not disclose to the demon in front of you. You’ve heard someone? or something? calling to you from the top of that spiral staircase ever since you got here, the one Lucifer was determined to keep you from climbing. Unlucky for him, you were just as determined to get up there. The others must be suspicious too, considering the fact they’ve been dropping hints on how to catch Levi off guard.

Appealing to his music aficionado side with a rare cursed record was sure to work to lure Lucifer from the place his been guarding steadfast, but first you had to obtain said record. Of course, that’s were Levithan came in, the owner of the TSL record. Also, adding one more demon friend to your repertoire wouldn’t hurt. The more the merrier.

A TSL quiz, you wagered to the third born, to prove who was the biggest fan. Talking about TSL was about the only way to get him to interact with you, and it seems he wasn’t gonna budge. If he wants you to prove you can be a bigger dweeb then him, fine. So be it. As long as it brought you closer together.

And one step closer to the top of that staircase.

You stand up abruptly, wiping the front of your uniform off. “C’mon, we’re going to go talk to Simeon.”

Your lover looks at you with an annoyed gaze. “Ugh, why do I have to come? I don’t need anythin’ from the angel or the pipsqueak.”

“No, but you’ll do it because you looooove me? Or, you know, I could just command you to come with me?”, you point out, a crucial detail that he seems to forget often.

“Hey! You can’t play those cards! That’s cheatin’”.

You lean forward to place a chaste kiss on his cheek. “I learned from the best!”.

The second born (begrudgingly) grabs your hand as you walk towards purgatory hall together in search of Simeon at the behest of Satan’s advice. You needed something big to stump Levi, something he can’t one up you on, something that will make him jealous. And for some reason, it seems the answer to your prayers lie with the angel.

“WHAT!? Woah woah woah slow down! Ya mean to tell me you know what happens in the ninth volume of The Seven Lords!?”, your boyfriend questions, openly gawking at the angel sitting across from you.

Simeon chuckles fondly, “Is that so hard to believe?”. As you converse, Luke sits at his side, pouring you a steaming cup of devilwood tea all the while throwing the man sitting next to you a look that could kill.

“How do ya know all this? What happens to Geldie? To the Lord of Fools? To Henry? Ya gotta tell me!”, Mammon all but begs the angel.

Once again Simeon let’s out a laugh at his astonishment. “Let’s just say the author and I are…close.”

“Isn’t this a series of books? How does Mammon know about it? Does he even know how to read?”, pips the smaller of the two, still holding his glare steady.

“Oi! How dare ya speak to yer elders like that! Course I can read!”

“How long did it take you to finish all eight books?”, questions Luke in an innocent voice you can tell is laced with venom.

“Uh- I uh- I didn’t read the books. I-Im not some nerd! I watched the movies. B-but I coulda read em if I wanted to!”

Luke’s laughter fills the room as Simeon has to hold back another giggle.

“Shaddup, tiny! Even yer laughs sound like yapping.”

Luke snaps to attention at his comment, Mammon’s teasing.

“Hey! I am not a chihuahua!”, he shouts, crossing his arms across his chest.

You give Simeon an apologetic glance on behalf of your second half. He simply responds back with a knowing one, placing a hand on Luke’s shoulder.

“Luke, would you please go brew some more tea for our guests?”, he asks as gently as he can.

"Hmph!", Luke indignantly huffs as he snatched the kettle off the table and heads towards the kitchen.

Simeon settles back on the couch after watching Luke leave the room. Facing the two of you once more, he says, “I suggest the two of you make yourselves comfortable. This… may take awhile.”

Insinuation 2.1 Live Reactions

(This is me, writing reactions as I read, because why the fuck not. They're not complete, mature thoughts taken after I sit back and evaluate what I've read. Consider them as such)

I woke to the muffled sound of the radio in the bathroom.  Reaching over to my alarm clock, I turned it around.  6:28.  Which made today a weekday like any other.  My alarm was set for six thirty, but I almost never needed it, because my dad was always in the shower at the same time.  Routines defined us.

Taylor just fought one of the baddest dudes in Brockton Bay, and she still needs to wake up and go to school like a normal teenager. Aah, YA Fiction Tropes (Whether or not Worm as a whole counts as YA is a different discussion, but this sure feels familiar)

With all that had happened, I hadn’t slept those full three hours, either.

From what I gather, Taylor isn't going to get a lot of sleep in general over the next two years. Sleep Deprivation may explain some of her decisions.

I shook my head, “Tired.  I didn’t sleep well.”

Shrugging again, I took a bite of french toast.  My dad was part of the Dockworkers Association, as the Union spokesperson and head of hiring.  With the state of the Docks being what they were, that meant my dad was pretty much in charge of telling everyone that there were no jobs to be had, day after day

Maybe Dockworkers unions work differently, but I feel like that's not - that's not how that should work? How is a Union Rep also a Head of Hiring? The two feel like they should be distinct?

“He’s going to be one of Über and Leet’s henchmen.” I raised my eyebrows.  Über and Leet were local villains with a video game theme.  They were pretty much as incompetent as villains could be while staying out of jail.  They barely even rated as B-list.

I'm pretty sure I heard of Uber and Leet before I ever heard of Amy Dallon, back when I was picking up out of context errant details from SB/SV circles. Incompetent as fuck, but clearly a fan favorite duo.

Being one of their henchmen has to suck tho.

“I heard you come in late last night,” he said.

Or pyrokinesis and the ability to grow armor plating and claws?  I felt a little knot of ugliness in the pit of my stomach at my father’s concern for me.  It was all the more intense because it was so justified.  I had almost died last night.

“Okay,” I said, adding, “I’m sorry.”  Even with that, I felt a twinge of guilt.  My apology was sincere in feeling, but I was making it with the knowledge that I would probably do the same thing again.  It felt wrong. He gave me a smile that seemed almost like an unspoken ‘I’m sorry too’.

Danny should push harder, but he made the effort, so he gets a parenting cookie nonetheless.

Shrugging, I suggested, “Stove, maybe?”

If Danny bought that, he loses the entire parenting cookie. If he just didn't push, he only loses a third of it, but still, Danny, Danny, Danny!

SO without going into the CrazyVille that is my brain, dropping by here to say: ya girl has been in her feels. Sorry I haven't been around much as of late. Tumblr/fandom has been putting me in a very not-so-fun headspace. I wish there was a way I could turn notes off so I don't have to see them on my posts or other people's posts. Normally I'm very good about not caring about notes, numbers, and interactions, but it's been getting to me a lot and I'm just... yeah. It's not fun. That, along with the constant hate and shit s2 has been getting, it's been putting my thoughts in a weird place. Fandom is my escape so I try to be positive here and not bring in too much negativity. I'm here to SIMP not WALLOW and WHINE and my brain has been A LITTLE BITCH lately. Anyway, yeah, I'll leave it at that for here. If ya wanna rant and vent and bitch with me I am open to it rofl because a good venting sesh can sometimes feel like magic

I don't plan on, like, leaving? But my motivation for writing has taken a huge hit and I'm struggling to even make some steam to get it going again

Along with HotD, I've been watching some other shows - The Bear right now, and have plans to watch The Boys next and maybe Bridgerton - and reading more. I'm finally diving into the Throne of Glass series! Currently on Heir of Fire and I love this story so much already I wanna shake it in my mouth like a dog!!! AHHH!

But yeah. Thanks to my fandom friends for coming around and sticking around ♥ I wanna do some wlw writing with Rhaenyra so if anyone has ideas they wanna share hit me up! Also there might be some Harwin fics in the future because the Daddy Strong thirst is foreverrrr

I'm just so lucky tbh. 😔 It's so funny how we both remain so floor and are constantly going "What did we do to deserve them???" @ one another, because lord knows I STILL keep wondering this myself. I just know that I likely did something right, to be blessed like this. 8^)

And, Sammy... you are a treasure... one of the most precious beings in the whole wide world to me... ;; For any rocky roads that we may end up needing to drive through... it's always worth it when we both fight to make it to the end together (... Hey 👋🏾💜 Thank you for the kind words. Y’all need to stop gassing me up. My dad jokes/ corniness will know no end lol.

With my Twitter page, sometimes I question whether or not people think I’m stealing work from this Tumblr page bc both my pfp and handles are not the same 🥲 I made my twt before I made this side blog so the handle and pic was a quick “slap together” choice. The phrase “be f*cking for real” is too funny to me so I just ran with it. And then my brain was completely uncreative and was like “namor-shuri” will do rofl. Hopefully people understand by now that I’m the same person, but alas.

To answer your question, I think it’s broken up into two parts. One chunk of it is that I rant A LOT so this platform makes it easier for me to do so while also being creative with color fonts and all that jazz. I also just love the freedom of layouts and stuff like that. From a creative perspective, of course it doesn’t help that Tumblr messes with quality but what I lose in quality, I gain in possibilities [I swear I don’t work for Tumblr and this is not me promoting them rofl].

The other half of the pie is the stark difference of engagement on Twitter vs Tumblr, in my personal experience thus far. Like I said, I made my Twitter first back in late December of last year. It was kind of a random decision but once I realized I was super into the Namor x Shuri ship, I wanted to engage with the fandom more directly and pour into it. Since then, I’ve been able to have a lot of fun with making different artworks, edits, videos, playlists, you name it! Ya girl has been BUSY to say the least lol And what’s been dope is that this fandom has been a fun outlet outside of my professional artwork and stuff like that. All that being said, what slowly became apparent to me was that I wasn’t feeling as included or apart of the fandom as I initially hoped I would. I would try and engage with people or joke here and there and most of what I would get back was crickets, whether it would be on my own posts or my commentary on others. And to be fair, I know it takes time for people to get to know you and build community but it just felt slightly strange. Especially when I would see new pages pop up and everyone would immediately flock to engage with them. I say this to say that absolutely NO ONE owes you anything in life so to be upset that someone isn’t your friend [whether it’s in person or online] is a human experience but you have to understand that not everyone is going to jell with you. There are billions [billions? *does quick google search] of people on this planet. Someone is bound to hate you, while another will worship the floor you walk on. Someone’s going to think you’re okay, while you being your raw and authentic self makes another person’s day. It’s nothing personal. It’s simply a numbers game. So inherently I understood that but it still hurt the 3 year old in me that was just trying to make friends at the playground, you know? lmao But I think what set it off was when I would look up and then see my edits used for people’s banners, fan art, post ideas, etc without asking me or giving me any credit knowing that they also aren’t following me or even engaging with me in any way. It still wasn’t cool but I think what would have made the whole thing feel a little different is if I was more “in the group” but because I’ve been on the outskirts the majority of the time, it just made it sting that much more.

Then I started to get slightly paranoid and wondered if I was missing something. Did I do something wrong? Did I say something that was off? I felt like a message was being sent and that confused the hell out of me [and lowkey still does]. BUT SOB STORY ASIDE lol I brushed my shoulder off, switched gears and thought “f*ck it, let me make my own side blog and do my thing on there” and that worked for me! I got traction after that, people were responding to my stuff and throwing in their own ideas/commentary/analysis etc. I felt like I could engage with people more, even with the limitations Tumblr puts on side blogs. And just the whole vibe overall started to feel really f*cking good. The funny thing too is that I’ve noticed that a lot of Twitter is on here and vice versa so it’s the same folks but for some reason I think this platform has opened up more possibilities for engagement in my experience. Twitter lends to a wider audience than Tumblr unfortunately but I’ve accepted my humble abode on here.

This rant is getting super long so I’ll end with this; I have nothing against the Nashuri fam on Twitter. Just because I’m not necessarily apart of the “crew” doesn’t mean that I don’t find everyone hilarious or amazing in any way. If you think I’m funny anon, you need to read what these girls say because it is SUPERB *chefs kiss* The talent from artworks to fics to think pieces and everything in between is incredible and oozes from that community. But for me, I think I just haven’t found my footing or people over there and as much as it’s been a bummer, I’m still going to be on there to support the dope stuff that comes out of it. I also want to say that just because this has been my experience doesn’t mean it will be yours. I fully encourage you to branch out on different platforms and try and engage with as many people as possible [fandom or not]. I think I just got my finger burned once and immediately gave up rofl. One of the biggest blessings that have come out of the Nashuri fandom in general is it’s vast bipoc community. As a black woman myself, I haven’t experienced this level of inclusivity when it comes to race, gender, language, culture, ages etc in other fandoms. It’s beautiful and I will always be thankful for that.

I also want to drive home that everyone needs to find what works for them. You owe yourself that. If you feel like your aren’t getting what you desire out of Instagram, move to Twitter and see what happens. If Twitter isn’t cutting it, move to Discord. Move to Tumblr, you name it! I think that move for me made a HUGE difference and honestly made me feel better about being in this fandom in the first place. And also this just goes for life in general but just because you might not feel included somewhere doesn’t mean you or the place is a problem. You might just need some scenery change.

○ the downside to being raised in a good family? there are suddenly expectations of you. and, to cyril dane─who is by all counts topher's father at this point in time─toph just never seems to hit his mark. he never seems happy or as satisfied with the life dear ol' dad strives for him to have. hell, he went to college just to keep the man happy and it was easily the worst experience of his life (that of with his mother, not excluded. what? experience is subjective!) to be honest, he just doesn't have it in him to commit. i mean, other than to the diner he's been working at since he'd practically hit puberty. no desk job or proper title or, hell, even a fireman's badge could make him as content as he is standing in a hot kitchen making mediocre food and bullshitting with his favorite kind of people in the world. much to his father's dismay.

Thank you for inviting me to your tumblr :) As you know, I'm desperately trying to avoid the actual books, both for "spoilers" (since I'm basically reading your story like one would any novel) and because it's one thing to start a story then a character you like dies. It's another to go into it knowing your favourite character will die - and I'm not sure I can do that lol. I suppose it also depends how much Jordie is actually in the book(s). Given y'all have a whole tag about him living, I'm leaning towards he's in there enough to be loved. But, hey, like I said, there's a whole character in one of my fandoms who is beloved and has the equivalent of a "Jordie lives" tag and he's based off 1 line, soo….. But I'm still tempted because I like your story so much (and I kinda maybe have a fic idea… <.< >.>) Although, I will read the wiki if I end up getting hopelessly confused.

I do have 1 question: I've assumed my guess on Kaz's identity is correct, bc it just makes too much sense not to be. Does he have a redemption arc in the books? Or is he just bad/morally grey? Or is my question itself wrong because I'm missing too much context? I don't know if I could do both "my favourite character is going to die and I know this before ever interacting with the source material" AND "my other favourite character went 'evil'/cruel/maybe a bit psychopath not really sure and stays that way" - especially not if they're introduced as young children (which I'm assuming they are lol, lot of assumptions here).

Buuut, I also recently found out that the Six of Crows books aren't the first ones? So maybe I could read the Shadow and Bones trilogy and not have to deal with those things? Just to get a flavour of the canon world. And then I also saw that there's some companion books, like the one on the saints - which sounds interesting, but I would probably find infuriating, given what you've written of the Church in your story ROFL - and the one with in-world fairy tales - THAT sounds really good. I might do that one even if I don't ever give the actual canon stuff a try.

Jordie has a decent presence in the books for what his role is--we have a couple of flashback chapters that were the basis for the first two chapters of a guest and Kaz continues to remember him/imagine his presence. Enough to get a decent sense of who he was, I think (though of course fandom loves to run wild with the scraps of characterization we get as a general rule)

As for Kaz--you're right about his identity (probably pretty obvious from the tags in retrospect, since his name on Ao3 is Kaz Brekker) and in the books he is a main character/narrator. You have to remember that the information you got last chapter wasn't really coming from the most reliable sources-a lot of it was rumor and gossip and trying to shock/scare Jordie--Kaz is complicated, but not a villain, and better than he likes to think he is.

You can certainly read Shadow and Bone if you want and it'll help you understand the world but it's...it's got a lot of cool concepts and interesting side characters and the Netflix adaptation is fantastic but the books themselves were some of Bardugo's first published work and it kind of shows. They're very much of the early-mid 2010s YA (I think I read them in 2015?). If your taste goes that way, I say go for it, but otherwise I would just recommend watching the Netflix series to get a primer on the world/characters. I haven't read the tie-in stuff myself but if it's recent it's probably pretty good.

If you do have a fic idea though I'd love to hear about it because this fandom has consumed my life for like the past several years and is one of the few things keeping me sane through law school lol :D
