How to Write Your Own Spells
Tumblr media
There are lots of ways to create spells, from planning everything to the minutest detail ahead of time to absolutely flying by the seat of your pants in the moment. If you'd like to write your own spells, either for use in your craft or as a creative exercise, here are some suggested steps that I use in my own practice:
1) Determine the intent or goal of your spell. Decide, first and foremost, what you want the spell to do. Refine your goal if necessary and try not to be too nebulous. Your intent tells the spell what it's meant to do. A more focused goal may increase the chances of success.
2) Determine how you want the spell to manifest. Decide how the spell should work and what the result should look like. This is a good time to build in a sign of success, especially for spells that may not work in an obvious or visible way.
3) Determine what or whom the spell will affect. If the spell is to have a target, be it a person or a place or an animal or an object, decide what that should be and how they or it will be represented in the casting.
4) Determine how long the spell is meant to work. If your spell is timebound or has a deadline, decide what that will be. If the spell is meant to work long-term, you may want to check in and refresh it from time to time. (Not every spell will be timebound. Many spells will simply expire when they have fulfilled their purpose or if they are blocked or circumstances are not favorable.)
5) Determine the timing of the spell, if applicable. Not everyone uses celestial or astrological timing for their spells, but if you do, look into the prevailing conditions and decide on an advantageous time for your casting. (Please note that magical timing can only enhance your spell and casting something on the "wrong" day will not necessarily cause it to fail.)
6) Determine what methods and materials you want to use to cast the spell. Decide how you're going to go about performing the casting, whether you're doing a ritual or making a charm or just using energy. If you're going to need a ritual space or physical components, plan that out and make sure it fits with what you want to do.
7) Determine the words, if any, which will empower the spell. If you want to include a prayer or a petition or a song or an incantation with your spell, decide what that should be. This is not strictly necessary and the words need not be spoken aloud. (Rhyming incantations are not required, but if you prefer them that way, you can certainly do so.)
8) Prepare the materials for casting the spell. Get all your necessaries together ahead of time. Make sure you have everything you need, that tools and components are in good and useable condition, prepare your workspace, and make sure everything is within easy reach so you don't have to stop and search for things in the middle of your casting. (And for goodness sake, if you're working with open flame, observe fire safety and tie your hair and sleeves back.)
9) Finalize details and perform the casting. When you're ready to begin, try to eliminate as many possibilities for distraction or interruption as possible. Go over your spell and components one more time, then proceed with casting the spell.
10) Record the particulars for future reference and to determine how well the spell worked. Make a record of the spell, including your goal, how it should manifest, the words and components used, the date of the casting, the casting method and procedure, and how the casting went. If there are any additional details or observations that seem important, include those as well. This will serve as a useful learning tool in the future and will allow you to check your work if the results make themselves known.
It's useful to write spells from time to time if the inspiration strikes you, in order to better understand how they fit together and how they work. Plus it's a fun and creative journaling exercise and recording the spells you cast a great way to measure your progress later on.

🔥”BEGONE NEIGHBORS”🔥Hex Spell Jar
Tumblr media
——————————————
A spell to make any neighbor flee from their home or property.
Disclaimer: I’d like to specify that I used this spell for some horrible people who lived near us who everyone in the neighborhood hated. That being said use it responsibly and make sure to self reflect or to see if there is an alternative way to get rid or stop their behavior first.
Made this spell a while ago and in about 1-2 weeks the neighbors were kicked out of their home after months and months of empty promises and inaction.
——————————————
Ingredients:
+ empty pint jar
+ kosher salt (any salt really)
+ crushed red pepper flakes
+ dried whole red pepper (optional)
+ ground paprika
+ chili powder
+ 1/2 pint of charged waning or storm/rain moon water
+ garlic powder
+ iron nails
+ push pins
+ black salt
+ pickle juice
+ 1 tsp vinegar
——————————————-
Meanings of said ingredients:
- red pepper/chili powder : to cause pain, anger, intensifies spell
- salt: to protect the castor, to inflict pain
- paprika: adds boost to spell’s energy/influence
- garlic powder: repels negative forces, banishes
- iron nails/push pins: to cause pain or harm, adds power to spell
- black salt: to banish negativity, protects castor
- pickle juice: to sour one’s life
-vinegar: to stink up someone’s life, banishing/cursing, drive negative forces away
(Vinegar will explode if too potent or in large quantities when shaken over time so make sure to put a small amount and dilute it.)
——————————————
Steps:
1. Place liquids first in jar. Then add dry ingredients. Be sure to mentally label what their intent is.
2. Place nails and pushpins in the jar. Close the jar. Repeat,
“May your actions catch up to you and cause you to flee from your home.”
3. Shake closed jar and repeat the phrase.
“May the hex be lifted once you leave and never return.”
4. Seal the jar with black wax. Put the jar in a black bag and put it in a dark place. (I personally chose a dark cupboard in the garage.)
——————-
Be sure to cast a circle or ward before or cleanse after the spell! Always have protection spells in case of it backfiring.

Hey! Before i ask my question-
I just wanna say, I love your account, it has really helped me with my journey in witchcraft.
Now to the question:
I really need some help rn:
Some girl did me absoloutely DIRTY and spread lies about me, so im gonna put a hex on her. I know the most important stuff, but a few days ago i found a dead wasp in my room so i have one question:
How do you use dead wasps/ bugs in hexes?
You dont have to answer this, but it would really help me rn!!
Hello anon!
Sorry I didn't answer sooner, my job is very high stress and time consuming. Totally my bad. Was not ignoring you in the slightest.
I'm glad to have helped you. That makes me very happy to hear.
I'm going to be honest though, I personally wouldn't use the dead wasp. It's not like you found it on the street and was like ha Imma get that person. It was found in your room.
Tumblr media
Now...my slightly paranoid ass would assume that shit was an omen or attack or some shit. I don't know. I see something like that and I'm like some shit might be going down. I'd cleanse the little fucker and my room and get it out of my vicinity.
Then again, I had a history with someone who used bugs in their shitty intentions against me so that could be just a me thing as well. That was when I was young, dumb and inexperienced as fuck though.
(also I just do not like bugs, we do not vibe)
As to the answer you seek on what to do with this dead wasp:
Dead buggies are (imo) more suitable for flat out curses. Like...that goes beyond "bitch keep my name out your mouth" to "I will fuck up everything that makes you happy."
But your journey and craft is yours. So do as you see fit. I just highly recommend you cleanse like hell afterwards.
You can use the dead bug as a symbol of your anger/betrayed feeling coming back to the lie spreader.
Get real creative with it: Use the stinger as the bite of their lies now being turned onto them. Or even your own attack.
Take the wings and crush them over a taglock of the person as if to ground the person's lies. May lies fly out of the mouth no more.
Those are my first thoughts.
Like I said, be sure to cleanse yourself afterwards. Don't want that bad energy on you.
When it comes to spells and shit, try and think outside the box. Put a nasty little spin on it, almost like a signature on your own personalized fuck you if you're brave enough.
Do make sure to ward/protect yourself first and foremost. Sometimes even if they don't know it, your target could have something to reflect energy especially if the intent is to hex or harm.
You'd be surprised.
Tumblr media
Better to be safe than sorry, honestly. I've made the mistake myself of just hexing without a ward or two. I learned.
Never spellwork when blind with emotion. That's how you fuck up. Witchcraft is all intention and that's all well and good but emotions can really fuck up the mind if you allow them to.
By all means, put your emotion into a spell; it's a powerful tool. Hell, I've used the intensity of my love for my spouse as a ward for them. I've thought of all the things that make me laugh and happy to bless my nephew. Emotions are a damn good tool.
Just don't let it get out of control.
At any rate, good luck. I hope this helps!
Tumblr media
I also hope this made sense, I need to stop posting in the middle of the night/early morning. Shit be looking live drunk texts sometimes...

I have been on Witchtok for approximately ONE (1) week, and I've already seen tons of videos with incorrect info on how "Easter is a pagan holiday" (spoiler alert, it's not)
I recommended to one particular creator that they should listen to the Hex Positive podcast episode on the Easter-Ostara debacle by our beloved @breelandwalker, and their response was "There's no way you're using a podcast as a source...."
HUH?
Folks are delusional.

So, this is my most recent witchy read. It was recommended by @breelandwalker herself. I was just coming to terms with being a Catholic with tendencies towards witchcraft and trying to figure out what this means for me. What's great about this book is that it is all about secular witchcraft so it's perfect for any witch that is a beginner or experienced. I really liked the information in here. It cleared up a lot of misconceptions I had about baneful magic, about charms, spells, and all sorts of practices.
My programmed anxiety still gets me about all this but I am getting a better understanding of all this. It makes it feel very homely and sort of a gentle explanation for those of us who are timid about coming into the craft. I myself especially because I bought this knowing that I am Catholic and I was scared that maybe something might be said negatively about how the church does have negative opinions on witchcraft. I will admit it even though I'm so many episodes into Hex Positive I always had this anxiety that books of any kind might shame me or try to have some sort of high horse stance. That's on me and I'm going on a bit of a tangent here.
My point is this book doesn't make me feel wrong or resentful of where I am coming from. It makes me feel like I am at home. That I'm in a safe place to learn without the criticisms. Reading the book honestly makes me feel like I'm learning from my Tias or my abuelas.
Emotion aside it is very practical. There are good beginner spells and charms in here. I really liked learning about witchballs and walnut charms. I liked the opinions and importance of consent I learned about love magic. I feel like I've got a much more solid foundation to work with and one that I can work as a Catholic or without any religious practices if I wanted.
I've been afraid coming in as a self described Catholic/Christopagan because I know there is sort of a controversy around it in the Christian community but Bree's book and Bree herself have been very kind to me and this book has excellent information for building that foundation and understanding what it means to be a witch. There are great spells and charms in here that I can use in my everyday life. I haven't used them yet only because I've been short on money to get supplies but I can't wait to make the witchballs and hand them out to family and friends as gifts. Go buy this book, go read it, I can't wait to get my copy of The Sister's Grimoire next!

If there's one conclusion I've arrived at after a decade and a half of being a witch, it's that some people you don't need to spend the time and energy to curse. You can just let them wreck themselves in due time, because eventually they run out of lives to ruin and soon enough they get to their own.

Quick Podcaster PSA -
There's been a recent uptick in "bad ads" - that is, automated ads that seem out of place for the shows on which they air. There have been some companies and institutions putting their ads into more "friendly" or publicly-palatable categories in order to have their material air on channels where it would not otherwise be welcome.
I've received a few messages about such ads appearing on Hex Positive and I'm working with my hosting platform to correct the problem. If you hear something on my show that seems at odds with the message of the program or with my principles, please let me know right away.
In the meantime, PLEASE DO NOT UNSUBSCRIBE IF YOU HEAR A BAD AD. Automated ads are chosen by category and showrunners only have so much control over what their hosting platform chooses to go in those spots. Only ads that are read by me are 100% approved to be on the show.
Thank you for your patience while all of us deal with the insidious capitalist machinations of advertising that we unfortunately need in order to keep bringing you the content you love.

I've been listening to Hex Positive lately, which is an excellent podcast about non-religious witchcraft.
I have been drawn to witchcraft since high school when I first read Drawing Down the Moon and Spiral Dance, but I could never reconcile them with my faith.
Even the witchcraft described in Hex Positive doesn't quite jive with my personal beliefs. I truly do believe that someone can be Christian and a witch, but the way I understand my faith and witchcraft are pretty opposed. The primary issue is where the control lies--being the one to create spells to influence the world and others vs relying on God. There's more to it than that and I've reduced the idea considerably, but that's not the point of this post.
The point is, listening to the podcast and the explanations of witchcraft separate from religion have helped me identify more what I'm drawn to. And they're similar to why I've chosen to attend a church that follows liturgy and the church calendar. I like that parts of the year have white and gold trimmings while others have red or green, etc.
I like ritual.
Also, my love language is gifts primarily because I like having tangible reminders around me and because buying people gifts they like makes me feel more settled in my relationships.
Rituals and tangible reminders.
But I don't want crosses and verses all around my apartment. That feels too much like signalling or showing off rather than having something precious to me. Like, no one needs to know how much I value pictures on my wall or a certain set of books on my shelves or anything like that. Plus, Christianity has hurt a lot of people and many make assumptions based on decor. I don't want a cross to make anyone feel less welcome in my home. (I think most modern churches are utterly antithetical to my faith, but, again, that's not the point of this post).
So I've been thinking more about the intersection of spells and prayer. Spells are a personal force. You exert your will upon the world, potentially by drawing on the power of association with times of year/month, certain herbs, etc. Prayer is asking a higher power to intervene or support you but not making demands.
But, prayer need not be only words. Why can't prayer include physical actions or tangible materials? Why can't prayer be ritualized? Why can't one create physical reminders and touchstones?
(For example, I started practicing Lent to show up a Catholic friend who made a big production of each year in high school, but I continued doing so because I liked it as a reminder. Each time I reached for that which I'd decided to give up, I would remember why and it was another reminder of God's love for me and mine for God.)
I'm not 100% sure where I'm going with this yet. But I'll continue exploring.
Also, if you've any interest in witchcraft at all, definitely listen to Hex Positive.
