Gale Community For Educators: Empowering High School Teachers
Tumblr media
Connecting Educators for Enhanced Teaching Practices
Gale, a part of the Cengage Group, has introduced an innovative solution to enhance teaching practices and promote collaboration among high school educators. The new initiative, called "Gale Community For Educators," is an online Facebook community specifically tailored for K-12 educators. With a primary mission to foster collaboration and exchange of ideas, this platform aims to connect literature, English, history, and civics high school teachers, empowering them to create dynamic and transformative learning experiences for their students. Shawn Clark, the senior vice president of Gale's domestic learning business, emphasized that this resourceful community would help teachers nationwide access the necessary tools to support student growth and development.
Networking and Professional Development Opportunities
Gale Community For Educators serves as a vibrant hub for like-minded educators, providing a multitude of professional development opportunities. Additionally, through webinars and tutorials led by industry experts and experienced educators, teachers can enhance their skills, stay up-to-date with the latest educational trends, and explore innovative pedagogical approaches that foster student success. Moreover, this platform ensures that educators have the support they need to continually improve their teaching methods and provide the best possible education to their students.   A Dynamic Space for Engagement Within Gale Community For Educators, high school teachers can actively participate in discussion forums and engage in Q&A sessions with subject matter experts. The platform enables members to express their opinions through regular opinion checks, prompts, and surveys, ensuring their voices are heard and valued. Additionally, teachers will have access to a curated collection of professional development resources, including lesson plans, engaging activities, discussion prompts, assessment tools, and worksheets, all designed to enhance the teaching experience and promote student success.   Fostering Collaborative Learning One of the key features of Gale Community For Educators is its interactive nature, encouraging educators to share challenges, seek advice, and participate in thought-provoking conversations. Teachers can explore new ways to help students absorb subject matter and apply their knowledge meaningfully. The community serves as a space for exchanging ideas on developing effective writing skills, inspiring passion for historical events and civic engagement, and nurturing students' readiness for their academic journey.
About Gale Community For Educators

The platform's primary goal is to foster teaching practices through collaboration, access to valuable resources, and professional development opportunities. Where all the egos are teachers? You can’t tell me this doesn’t happen at that school

ABSOLUTELY XD
It's probably Phantom and Anti blasting the music, Chase and Jackie cheering for the running kids, Dark not bothering to stop it since it's getting the kids to get to class, Mare is trying not to laugh and Marvin's sitting to the side with Mad, drinking some tea while Mad is confused as to why the music is making the kids run

Schema, baby, schema! 😺 #Repost @edutopia ・・・ A purely skills-based approach to reading instruction—where kids are introduced to unfamiliar subjects and then drilled on strategies like summarizing and finding the main idea—ignores growing research into “the crucial role of background knowledge in comprehending what you read,” writes Holly Korbey. It also leaves behind many low-income kids, English language learners, and students of color. ⁣ ⁣ After a decade of tanking reading scores, Baltimore City Public Schools took a deep dive into the cognitive science of reading comprehension; the district found enough convincing evidence to upend its traditional ELA instruction. Now, students still learn typical ELA skills—such as figurative language and sight reading—but they’re grounded in concepts they’re already familiar with from other classes. So, while studying “the U.S. colonial era in social studies, for example, students may read anchor text about the American Revolution, hold a Socratic seminar on the beginnings of the war, and then write an essay defending one side’s position using the vocabulary they learned in ELA,” notes Korbey. ⁣ ⁣ When students read about something they have baseline knowledge about, “they’re able to retrieve more information about the topic from long-term memory, leaving more space in working memory for comprehension. They’re also better able to absorb and retain information, because knowledge—like Velcro—sticks best to other related knowledge,” says Natalie Wexler, author of The Knowledge Gap. ⁣ ⁣ Link in bio.⁣ ⁣ #Teacher #TeachersofInstagram #TeachersOfIG #Classroom #HighSchoolTeacher #ElementarySchoolTeacher #HighSchoolTeacher #TeacherTips #MainIdea #ELA #ELATeacher #EnglishTeacher https://www.instagram.com/p/CpT4UtfrJeMPwTU5_WQfd34EwF_JnXlMV9pvRk0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hi Eyes! 1st time sending an ask, hope it works 🤞
So I saw this fun imagine recently w/ HighSchoolTeacher!Hobie; y'all work in adjacent classrooms and the students are shipping ya's hard, not knowing their fave teachers are already doing the nasty >:3
Then I visit your blog today, and I realize how much funnier this scenario would be with LoserTeacher!Hobie
The favourite of all the students, in their eyes the beloved punk carries that cool confidence of a grown-up, but when he's around you the illusion shatters. The man can't hold eye contact with you, sometimes they catch him watching you from a distance like a crushing teenager...
One time you touched his arm and they *swear* they saw his knees wobble!
You're always so calm and collected though, it makes some room for doubt, and keeps the rumour of your relationship a popular, and hotly debated topic in the lunch hall...
He pops to your classroom to borrow smth one time, but can't help stumble over his words like a fool when he sees ya in that one outfit that gets his heart *racing* ((he KNOWS you know what that does to him!))
Quickly making his escape, your class are all laughing and joking about it. And while ya get them to hush and focus back on their studies, internally yer thinking 'I am absolutely WRECKING that nerd tonight >:333'
This man is not beating the Simp allegations any time soon lmao

sharp red triangles
He showed the teacher some of his songs.
Played them to her, rather; the tracks he’d recorded at home: and she listened with this surprised, smug form of oppression.
And picked up on the one mistake in the entire fleet of recordings.
Then at the end she said, rhetorically, “Do you have any happy songs?” with her lips in sharp red triangles.
He was fifteen, then, and she was in her late fifties; and he was already far more accomplished than she was, musically: it’s just that she had the power to abuse him in her small highschoolteacher role, whereas he was only a pupil, only small.

Posted @withregram • @nouvelle_ela 🎭 It’s here! ☀️ Resources for #RethinkingTheClassics for ANY Shakespeare play! . @teachingliteracy and I share supplemental texts and curriculum updates to make #TeachingShakespeare more inclusive. We’ve organized these by background topic, theme, and essential question. Our goal is to save you HOURS of work making your unit more informed, inclusive, and student-centered. . Shakespeare’s work is the PERFECT part of your curriculum to reshape because it was malleable and transient in its origins. It wasn’t until the 18th century that we got The Text as something sacrosanct... you can use this part of your curriculum to explore what The Bard means to folx from all backgrounds and how it endures in conversation with new art today. . Comment below and let me know what Shakespeare play(s) you teach 👇🏼 . This resource is on sale today! Ink Month 2022 Day 6
Tumblr media
Day 6: Haunted
“Are you sure you can handle this?” Jackie asked as he and Phantom handed their ‘tickets’ to one of the students sitting at a little table.
“It’s a ‘haunted hallway’ made by some of the students. How bad could it be?” Phantom scoffed.
“You’re just a bit…jumpy.” Jacke chuckled.
“I am not.” Phantom pouted a little, looping his arm through Jackie’s and letting him lead them into the beginning of the decorated hallway.
“Hi, Mr. Boiman! Hi, Mr. Phantom!” Robbie greeted with a wave of his sheet-covered hand. Phantom always got a little kick out of the kids calling him by his first name but adding the ‘Mr’ still.
“Hey, Robbie.” Jackie greeted back. “Love the costume.” He added with a gesture. Robbie wore a white sheet over his body, loop-sided holes cut out for his eyes and mouth and a hand-made sign hung around his neck that said ‘Boo’.
“Thanks! Me and Blank made it together. Follow me!” Robbie spun on his heel and started walking.
“And you were worried,” Phantom whispered his giggle to Jackie
“Better safe than sorry.” Jackie chuckled back, looking around at all of the decorations the students had made. They were cute drawings of ‘scary’ things. Ghosts, zombies, nothing that really would give anyone the creeps. It was a school event, they were probably told to hold back as well.
“Found Blank.” Phantom pointed where he was looking, showing Jackie that Blank was wearing a costume as well, the same thing as Robbie.
“Cute.” Jackie could see students moving behind the blanket walls, the lights making them look like shadows. “They seem to be having-” He stopped when all of the lights suddenly went out and a high-pitch laugh came from behind them. Phantom was about to say something when a scream happened in front of them and it scared him enough that he jumped up into Jackie’s arms and yelled.
“Got them!” Bim’s voice laughed in the darkness before the lights were turned right back on.
“Told you it would work!” Yandere popped up from behind them. “Are you okay there, Mr. Phantom?”
“I am perfectly fine.” Phantom huffed as if he wasn’t being held in the air by Jackie.
“Good job, guys.” Jackie chuckled. “Got us good.”
“Mr. Brody’s coming!” A different student called.
“Oh! We have to set up again. Bye!” Yandere waved as she and Bim took off.
“‘How bad could it be’?” Jackie teased when the kids were gone.
“Shut up and put me down.” Phantom tapped at Jackie’s chest.
“No~” Jackie sang and kept walking.
“Jackie!”

Ok so I fucking love my band teacher
Our school district is weird so every class has to teach math (ew gross). But it’s band so... we play the entire time? My teacher’s method for getting around this bs rule? Confuse the hell out of the principal. What follows is a summary of their conversation, according to my teacher:
Teacher: Great. So, is there anything else?
Principal: One last thing, how do you work math into your curriculum?
(I should add, that as a typical American high school, we are completely centered around football literally no one gives a shit about the arts. My band made it to NATIONALS last year and the announcement we got was: “(teacher’s name) brought a /team/ of band students to nationals.” And that was it. So basically, the principal knows pretty much nothing about band. Anyways, continuing with this story..)
Teacher: Well, you see we have the typical 4/4 time, which when subdivided into eighth notes gets you 2/4 time, or if you’re feeling the mood 4/8 time. Sometimes if you want, there is a special time we use for special occasions such as waltz’ called 3/6 time, where it is counted in 2 and written in 6. (As he is saying all this he is writing random crap on the board, scribbles and a bunch of notes and numbers and is confusing the hell out of the principal) So! That’s the first part of the math we do in class. Would you like to hear more?
Principal: No.. no that’s enough. Thank you for your time.
My class: *cheers*

Posted @withregram • @meetthecreature We’re back! While not quite as morbid as this one, I did assign a book report to my IT classes. A lot of Heinlein, Vonnegut, Asimov, etc. Get them into some of the classics! If you’re like us, you’ve been trying to figure out what to do next now that we’ve shut down the world. Rest assured, classes will continue online for the youngsters. My wife has even started reading to her students online and has picked up a lot of followers both in and outside our district. Oh, and if I haven’t mentioned it already… Happy St Paddy’s Day and WASH YO HANDS!
